Another story you may enjoy is A Cantabrian Operetta, By Jonah in the same section Adult/Youth A Neglected Boy "The Twins" XXVIII jacoblion@tutanota.com The story is told by either Jake or Kori in alternating Chapters ............. Ethan handed me the phone . . . . "this is Kori, .... Hello Dr. Guermandi it is so nice to hear your voice. ......... yes I am so excited to be a part of the international team ........ yes that is Dr. Jake Roberts and yes we both know Professor Alves ........ Oh I see the Administrative Consul ........ yes, yes here in New York ........ Dr. Guermandi that would be a great honor, I'm sure Dr. Roberts would be delighted ........ Well, there are three boys, "The Twins" are Korean and are 9 and the other boy Ethan is 16 and I think either German or Austrian. ........ Oh yes they swim like fish. ........ Dr. Guermandi this will be a great honor for all of us and please thank Consul General Zanotti on behalf of myself and Dr. Roberts. Yes certainly, Buona notte. I hung up the phone to find everyone staring at me. I looked at Jake, Kyle and Justin and asked . . . . "Just what did you say to the Italian Consul? . . . Ethan was staring and waiting to hear this story and so was I. Jake, Justin, and Kyle looked like they were in big trouble and Jake just said . . . . "I didn't say much I just handed the papers to the Consul, he said something to the staff member who left the room and we talked, oh, and Justin and Kyle sat with him and he gave them some books." . . . . I said . . . . "What was the discussion about Professor? . . . . "Oh he showed us a photo album when he was a Yale and friends with Professor that's all." I looked at Jake and the three boys and said . . . . "Well, whatever was said, whatever the rug-rats said; whatever you said Jake must have created some impression. We have been invited to spend a weekend with Consul General Zanotti on his private Yacht at Capri." .... Ethan became so excited and started with . . . "do you know how beautiful Capri is, do you think we can go to the Blue Grotto, and how big is his boat?" https://www.lonelyplanet.com/italy/campania/capri The rug-rats wanted to know what a Blue Grotto was. https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/blue-grotto-grotta-azzurra It became apparent that the night was going to be long and certainly educational for all. We all had questions about, just about everything. The archaeology, Pompeii, Vesuvius, more about Capri, Naples, can we go to Rome? Then Kyle and Justin wanted to know if we could see the leaning tower of Pizza ... hmmm Pisa. It was time for bed, right!, First Jake and I had to catch the rug-rats who decided to put up a fight about going to bed. Ethan was no help! He decided to take a long, warm shower (he's 16) and used the second half of the new bottle of Strawberry Shampoo. Well, Jake and I are now a little smarter now so we buy it by the case on Amazon. Justin rounded the corner and Jake snatched him by the back of his shirt and lifted him right off the ground. Last I saw Justin was being dragged to the master bath. Kyle was hiding. Kyle was not hiding for long as I grabbed him by his ankle and in just a little less than a minute he was in with his brother, still had his clothes on wet, but in the shower! ...... Screaming for Ethan! Ok two Korean brats soaking wet and me and Jake just as wet so it ended up 4 in a tub rub-a-dub-dub! When we got the brats naked and poured a new bottle of Apple shampoo all over then, Ethan stole our Strawberry Shampoo and I won't forget, they settled down and were giggling and singing some Korean song and something about me and Jake being dragons. We had the rug-rats dry and in their little boxers and all tucked in and even a story. Jake and looked at the schedule for our flight day after tomorrow and did have a glass of wine to relax. It had been fun but an exhausting day. We checked our flight one more time. Airbus 330-200, 2 seats left and 3 seats center and we all agreed to change seats during the flight. It was time for Jake and me to catch a little sleep and perhaps, you know, roaming hands, that kind of stuff. We opened the bedroom door and realized it would be just sleep, nothing else. Not to our surprise there in the middle of the bed were two lumps that ended up being our precious little rug-rats. We just lifted the covers and crawled in hugged up to our boys and drifted off to dreamland. Morning came quickly and it was breakfast, off to the university for me. Jake, Ethan, and the tyrants packed, unpacked, and packed twice more. Then off to Bella's Café for lunch. https://www.bellascafect.com/ For me it was back to the university and pack what I needed for the two weeks or so. For Jake and the boys it was a few items like bigger Speedos for all three boys as `things' were beginning to be very obvious. Ethan wanted more the Hawaiian short swimsuit style but not the rug-rats; oh no they wanted the hottest, sexiest little Speedos they could find. We were all back home and everything had been packed, the list had been checked twice so we were ready to go. Tomorrow it was 10 am off to the train and into New York City, then take the train to JFK and the best thing was `wear out the kids' and our selves so we would sleep on the flight to Naples. The flight from JFK was 6 pm then one stop Rome and arriving Naples at 10:40 am. Perfect. The night was long and restless and morning ugly. Thank goodness Ethan was so good and had tea for me and coffee for Jake already made. Kyle and Justin were super tired and didn't want to get up but we just dragged them into the kitchen. Finally they were awake, excited, rambling on and on about this, that, and everything they could think of, half of which was in Korean. We were out of the house by taxi and soon on the train. We just had the best time all the way to New York City and then found our way to the train to JFK, we did have just one short interruption when Justin said . . . "I gotta pee" . . . Well, and we all did. Soon we arrived at JFK and it was so easy. We were in line at TSA and it moved rather fast then we had our passports checked and when the TSA officer looked at the documents for Kyle and Justin and he said . . . "Whoa, VIPs" and called for another TSA officer and we were escorted right to the boarding area. We boarded our Flight 603, Justin and Kyle were in the left two seats near the window then decided to change to sit on either side of Ethan in the center of the plane. The flight attendant was just about to make the announcements when Kyle decided to change again but Jake said not now, you can change after we are in the air. Someone got a little pouty but it did no good. There were the announcements and the final check. We backed away from the terminal turned and taxied to the runway. The engines began to rev and I spotted the rug-rats as they were holding Ethan's hands. The breaks released and the Airbus 330 charged down the runway and in what seemed to be only seconds was in the air. The landing gear made that horrible rumbling noise as it folded up into the plane. We were cruising at 41,100 feet and drinks were being served. Justin, Kyle, and Ethan were getting lots of attention and loved it. Jake and I had made our plans ahead of time and had plenty of those small snack boxes for the boys on the flight. We were about 90 minutes into the flight when Ethan took the boys back to the restroom and returned to the seat. I traded places with him and now had Kyle and Justin on either side. Jake and Ethan were in the left two seats and as planned rug-rats were fast asleep. The cabin was dark and those who wanted could watch a movie on the screen that is on the back of the seat in front of them. We all decide it was good to try to sleep, and sleep we did. The flight was super smooth and Justin and Kyle slept all the way to Rome. Ethan, Jake and I napped on and off and the flight passed quickly. We changed planes in Rome and boarded and Airbus 320 for a 55 minute flight into Napoli . . . Jake was so excited. For him it was like going home he had been here so many times before. Truth be told I was just as excited and so were Kyle, Justin and Ethan. We presented our passports and documents for review and to be stamped as entering the country. We proceeded to the baggage area and spotted a well dressed man who looked like a chauffeur holding a large sign with Dr. Kori Preydon / Dr. Jake Roberts. We waved and walked over to him . . . he greeted us in English and explained he was here to drive us to our residents. Whoa, this was unexpected. I handed him the address for Ethan's parent's residents and he helped with our baggage. We walked out of the terminal and were surprised to find a limousine. The limousine had been arranged by the Consul General and it was nice because we also had a Carabinieri motorcycle escort. Maria met us at the front door and the Villa was beautiful with an amazing view of Naples, the harbor and Vesuvius. She showed us around and said that she would return at 8 pm to make dinner. Ahh Italians eat late. She then showed us the wine and gave a few hints about what is best. Ethan had never been at the residence before and the rug-rats were exploring and as Maria was leaving the rug-rats came running shouting . . . "Pool, pool there's a huge pool. Jake looked at Kyle and Justin and said . . . "Well, find Ethan and go swim." ..... I tried to say with swimsuits the new ones but it was too late and they had shut their hearing off anyway. Jake and I began to walk around the views were stunning in every direction. I can't imagine living like this every day. We turned the corner and walked out into the sun overlooking Naples Bay and there in this huge pool were Ethan and the rug-rats. Jake hollered to Ethan and asked . . . "Hey didn't we buy new swimsuits, you know those $95.00 Hawaiian swimsuits you just had to have; oh, .... and Justin and Kyle where are the new Speedos? . . . . Ethan had a good answer . . . . "we haven't unpacked yet and didn't want to swim in our clothes; so birthday suits were the next best thing Jake." Rug-rats pulled Ethan under the water and it just looked like so much fun. I looked a Jake, he looked at me and you know the saying ..... "When in Rome, do as Romans do" I had Jake beat and the water was warm and he must be getting old because he used the steps to get in. "I didn't say that and nobody better say I did." "Surprise" ! ! ! ! ..... We were having the best time, until ..... Giorgio walked around the corner with 5 huge towels and said . . . . "You may want these so things don't get to much sun. . . . . All the keys are on the kitchen counter near the wine rack. I'll just finish watering all the plants and garden and be back in the morning, Buona giornata." Ethan was a little embarrassed but knew that it's very normal, it didn't seem to bother Jake at all and rug-rats never even noticed. We finished our swim, showered and rested. It was just before 7 pm when we changed to better clothing. Maria arrived just before 8 to make dinner. It was a typical Italian dinner. First there was a small appetizer, followed by antipasto, then pasta with shrimp followed by roast chicken. The dinner finished with beautifully prepared fruit and homemade ice cream, then for Jake and I more wine and coffee. We kept thanking Maria who asked us to please just enjoy. Ethan explained it's her job and to be careful not to offend her. The rug-rats were full, Ethan was full, and Jake and I were stuffed. Maria came to wish us a pleasant evening and said she would be here at 8 am to make breakfast. We were afraid to say no, but there is no way we can eat like this every day. We rested for a bit then swam laps till the rug-rats were falling asleep in the water. It was off to bed and thank goodness tomorrow is a full day off to just explore Naples.
