A Neglected Boy "The Twins" XL jacoblion@tutanota.com Jake and I were almost laughing at this point but could understand Ethan's frustrations with the rug-rats. Sometimes teen boys need a little space and privacy; now finding any space with two little imps like Kyle and Justin is difficult at anytime and nearly impossible on the boat. Usually Jake and I would be awakened sometime in the night with either or both of our cute little rascals as they climb in the middle of the bed and need to be hugged; and if this was not what happened then for sure they would have climbed in bed with Ethan. Morning came with no sound, no rug-rats between Jake and I and as I peeked out at Ethan no rug-rats with him either. Hmmmm, interesting situation. I gently shook Jake who was sound asleep and judging by his twitching he must have been having an active dream. Jake turned and smiled and said . . . . "I was having one of the best dreams about the farm with you, Liam, and Ning and how silly you were when we were at the pond." . . . . Jake looked at the clock it was already 9:15. I motioned to be very quiet and listen. We remained motionless and there was not a sound. Jake finally realized that Kyle and Justin were not in bed and I whispered that they were not with Ethan either. Funny how something so simple as Justin and Kyle not in their usual places in the morning with either Jake and me or with Ethan could have caused so much concern. I took it that the rug-rats were in their cabin bunks sleeping because they were tired from all the swimming yesterday; Jake took it that something was wrong and immediately, and not so quiet, abruptly opened our cabin door stormed across the galley through the salon pass the forward head (toilet) and tore open the forward cabin door. Jake stood motionless looking at "The Twins" bunk ................ there all cuddled up with their arms wrapped around each other were Justin and Kyle sound asleep. Two days of diving, swimming, playing keep away with the beach ball, walking the beach in fresh air looking for little treasures had Kyle, Justin, and Ethan exhausted. Jake closed their cabin door without a sound and he and I went up on deck to see what the day looked like. Jake has an incredible sense of smell and it was the aroma of fresh coffee that said Ethan was up, awake, that is. He was in the galley and getting ready to make breakfast when I stepped in and said . . . . "Morning Ethan today I'll make the breakfast why don't you grab a quick shower after a sticky nights sleep." . . . . Ethan gave me and Jake that shy, slightly guilty look that boys sometimes have after a little workout; plus, there was a slightly alkaline pH ammonia smell in the salon. Ethan smiled and just said . . . . "Thanks Kori it was warm last night and I do feel a little sticky." ........ as he grabbed his towel and headed up on deck for a morning freshwater shower. Jake looked at me and said . . . . "Kori I don't know what you remember but I remember a number of mornings when you were Ethan's age, and younger, that mornings were both warm and sticky." ....... I think I turned a little red because I remember lots of mornings like that especially when Peter slept over. I opened a package of thin applewood bacon and lined a medium hot pan and soon the entire boat below decks had the aroma of fresh coffee and delicious bacon. Ethan had finished his shower and was descending the ladder to the salon just as Kyle and Justin were coming from their cabin. Those sweet little Asian boys were all smiles and their mouths were in high gear as they were telling us all about their dreams n how hungry they were n what were we going to do today n they wanted to go snorkeling at Grace Cove n could we eat at Beachhead Restaurant tonight .... Oh and then they even said good morning to Ethan, Jake and me. .... Then they said . . . . "I'm hungry in stereo." ..... What's so funny is that Justin and Kyle get so wound up that they will run everything together with their Korean accent and sometimes we have to really think about what they said. Rug-rats were already dressed in Underoos, surprising, and were at the table pouring and half spilling OJ. Ethan tried to help ...... wrong move ...... "Were not 4 you know we can pour the juice n don't need you to help." . . . . Kyle was just a little testy this morning. Justin was now up and making toast and I had a nice large cheese omelet on the other burner. Things simmered down and we all enjoyed breakfast together and talked about the day. Ethan's phone buzzed. ................. Ethan looked at the phone and asked to be excused ...... we don't allow phones at the table. We all like Grace Cove for the snorkeling, swimming, finding treasures and tanning so that was the plan for the day. Ethan returned and asked . . . . "You know the busboy last night, Keith, we've been talking and he's like my friend, well, he has today and tomorrow off would it be Ok if he joined us for the day?" . . . . I really just wanted to interrupt him but thought to let him finish and then I said . . . . "It's Ok with me if it's Ok with Jake, Kyle and Justin." ................... Jake immediately said sure we would love to have Keith come along; then it was the rug-rats .............. those damn 2 little brats they just looked at Ethan and giggled ...... it was a little tease on their part till Ethan said . . . . "If Keith is with us, we can have a war in the water and you guys can be up on Keith's shoulders and mine n see who can pull which team over first." . . . . that did it and the rug-rat brats were all in for water games and now were excited to have Keith along. Ethan said . . . . "Thanks, Keith will have the Yacht Club launch bring him over in 30 minutes. Jake looked at me and said . . . . "Kori I'm going to have a little chat with our two amazing cherubs so they understand the rules like Speedos on not off." ...... Ethan heard and had a big smile and asked if he was included in that rule, cheeky little bugger he is. Now Kyle and Justin were their usual selves and chatting and fooling around so they never heard a word that Jake said. I tapped Ethan on the shoulder and pointed to the deck and Ethan and I made Jabbering ready to sail and Ethan waited eagerly for Keith to arrive. It was 30 minutes like to the second when Ethan spotted the Yacht Club launch approaching. OMG the smile Ethan had! ... Ok, ... OMG the smile Keith had and was this boy ever a looker. Neither Jake nor I paid much attention to Keith last night but, I mean Keith is, WOW, handsome, cute and blond hair and beautiful deep blue eyes. Just as Keith was stepping aboard Jake, Kyle, and Justin stepped into the cockpit from below. Jake took one look at Keith with that open blue shirt and his face smiled ear to ear. Ethan introduced Keith to everyone and he has that personality that says "We all had known him for years" it was just the way he was and we all took to him immediately. Jabbering was ready so it was start the engine, up anchor, pull fenders on deck and head for Salt Pond then out to Block Island Sound. The big surprise was that Keith had been sailing since he was very little and didn't even have to be asked to do anything he just was right there when we raised the main sail and tightened the sheet. I handed the helm to Ethan and that gave Keith and Ethan the opportunity to stand together and talk while Jake and I got out all the snorkels, fins, and float for our adventure at Grace Cove. Jake and I thought it would be a very interesting adventure. Now I distinctly remember Jake having said he was going to talk to and set the rules for Kyle and Justin and about Speedos on .... Right? .... Well the rug-rats interpreted that to mean while getting underway from Cormorant Cove and Great Salt Pond but not once out on the sound. Jake and I were sitting behind Ethan and Keith at the helm when Justin and Kyle came up the ladder from the salon full speed and into the cockpit in their best nothing swimsuits with little things flopping around. Keith and Ethan were laughing Jake was embarrassed looked at the rug-rats hollered . . . . "STOP!" . . . . and pointed to the companionway. Kyle and Justin actually looked confused and almost started to cry because Jake was loud and sounded very angry. Keith turned and said . . . . "It's Ok with me my nephews are like that all the time. The rug-rats were saved by this new friend Keith, ... Jake calmed down as Ethan explained that it was nearly impossible to get Justin and Kyle to keep swimsuits on. Now can things get better or worse at this point is what I was thinking and things just got better, I think, when Keith said to Ethan . . . . "Yeah I hate having a swimsuit on too; I'd rather go skinny dipping but I wore these swim shorts today because I just met you and didn't want you to think I was some kind of weirdo." Jake and I laughed even though we didn't hear everything but Ethan had this smile that said everything would be just fine. Jake and I talked to the rug-rats a little and said perhaps for today and with Keith as our guest for the first time maybe Speedos or their Island shorts would be good. Justin and Kyle were smiling and ran off and quickly returned with Island Shorts so now all 6 of us looked like we had just arrived from Hawaii. I took the helm and Keith and Ethan walked forward to get the anchor ready and then just sit and talk on the deck. Jake grabbed Kyle and Justin to help get the float inflated and give the other 2 boys a little privacy. We were soon in sight of Grace Cove but today we had nice rolling waves coming ashore so I decided it would be best to set two anchors. With the boat secured we headed for shore and was ready for some snorkeling. Keith said this was his favorite beach because there were some great hidden spots for getting a nice allover tan and Ethan immediately was interested in those locations. The water was perfect, very clear and there were beautiful fish all around. We pulled the float up on the beach and the next thing we heard from the rug-rats was . . . . "War, let's fight Ethan you promised." . . . . Kyle grabbed Ethan's hand and Justin had a death grip on Keith as they were tugging them back into the water. Jake and I took a short walk looking for little treasures while the boys looking like some chess figures tried to pull their opponent off balance. We found a large rock and sat watching the game and laughed and remembered the times with Liam, Ning, Garret, and Riku up at the pond. The boys must have tired because soon they were all running toward Jake and I with the rug-rats calling out ....... "We're hungry" .... Yep and it's good we packed a ton of food to feed this army. We went to the float and rolled out a 4x6 foot sand mat opened the chips, dip, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, hardboiled eggs, and half frozen water. After our snack, not a lunch just a snack, we played hangman in the sand. The sun, surf, and breeze were perfect and Kyle, and Justin decided it was the best time to burry Jake and I. With the help of Ethan and Keith they dug what looked much like Halloween graves that Jake and I had to lie in, it felt very nice and cool, as the 4 boys began to pile sand and more sand, and lots more sand on us; to be honest it was fun. Jake and I were buried and the rug-rats danced and chanted that they killed the pirates while Keith and Ethan ran for a quick dip to rinse off all the sand. Our little imps finally released Jake and I and we all decided that it was time for some snorkeling. Jake spotted a sea turtle and we all noticed what appeared to be a large number of star fish all in one area. There was a little more of the rug-rats riding up on shoulders and Justin has taken to Keith and they seem to have become best buddies. We were getting tired so we walked up on the beach and the sun felt good warm and inviting so we all stretched out on the beach for a little tan time. I think we were stretched out for about 10 minutes when we heard a voice right above us saying . . . . "Keith, hey Keith." . . . . I guess we all opened our eyes at the same time to find this really cute boy with curly hair standing at Keith's head looking straight down into Keith's face. As it turned out it was one of Keith's friends that comes over to Grace Cove beach all the time. Keith introduced his friend Kris to all of us and said that Kris works at Beachead Restaurant too. Now the situation was getting very interesting. Ethan was looking at Keith then at Kris, Kris was looking at Keith then at Ethan, Keith was just slightly turning pink and it wasn't from the sun as he was looking first at Kris then at Ethan. Jake and I were starting to put things together but did Jake and I have it figured out right? Keith finally asked . . . . "Kris how did you get here?" . . . . well, it seems that one of his friends dropped him off and Kris was going to walk back or hitch a ride ......... then came a real surprise ...... Jake No! ... But it was too late .......... Before anyone knew what was happening Jake in his kindhearted way just said . . . . "Oh, Kris you can come back with us we've got plenty of room on the boat and your welcome to stay for dinner." The rug-rats were excited saying it was going to be a big party . . . . the expression on Ethan's face was like ... Geezzz! Jake, this was like my time with Keith, you know the boy I like, now I have to share him with this intruder. Not a second later Kris had accepted and worse, very much worse he hugged Keith; now if looks could kill then the way Ethan was looking at Kris there would be a burial any minute. I broke things up and said we all need to go for a quick swim but Keith jumped in with .......... "Wait ...... I need to explain. Kris and I are friends we're just good friends and Kris has a real good friend you know just like Ethan is my friend." ...... Now the rug-rats are standing in the middle of this triangle surrounded by Ethan, Keith, and Kris and their heads are going back-n-forth like watching a tennis match and they were really confused and it really didn't matter anyway because they just wanted to get back in the water for War Games. Ethan's face changed and he and Keith, and Kris all had big smiles and it looked like everything was all good for now. Kris ran to get his gear and then joined us in the water as he had not been swimming because he never swims alone. Then we noticed the beach was empty and the rug-rats not being shy had already thrown their Island Shorts in the float; Keith looked at Ethan and Kris and then Keith asked if it was Ok, Jake and I nodded yes and well, the rug-rats had company and when in Rome do as Romans do. All Justin and Kyle could think about was some kind of naked evil Olympic style war game where they would try to drag their opponent off balance ... off shoulders and dunk the loser. Kyle was up on Ethan's shoulders and Justin was on Keith's shoulders and Jake, Kris, and I were laughing and taking photos of the dramatic war like event. Justin was dunked first then Kyle and then Ethan looked at Kris and ....... no, no, no ....... Oh, yes I was elected to have Kris up on my shoulders; this was not a good idea! Jake looked at me with a devious smile and gave me thumbs up and said . . . . "Good luck I know it's going to be a `hard' fight." . . . . Justin, Kyle, Ethan, and Keith were cheering me and Kris on to let's get going. I looked at Kris and suggested he should probably have his swim shorts on but he just said . . . . "Nah, Kori I'm fine like this plus they don't have any on." Kris was standing almost chest deep when I dove between his legs and picked him up but before Kris and I could really get our balance Kyle and Ethan had us off balance and we were both under water. We claimed "Not Fair" and everyone agreed to let us get out balance. Once again, I dove between Kris's legs and had him on my shoulders, now we were standing solid. Jake was smiling and snapping one photo after another and I think he got some video too and I'm not sure we can show it to our friends. Now Kris, 15, is the smallest of the 3 teens in more than just his height. He is perhaps a grower not a shower and now as we have our balance, I think he is slightly larger in that area than when I first picked him up. It was all out war as Kris and I attacked both Kyle and Justin and tried to pull them over. Justin and Keith and Kyle and Ethan ganged up on Kris and I and again we found ourselves under water. Quickly I was lifting Kris on my shoulders and we were now solid standing our ground. I realized that the friction of Kris on my shoulders and against the back of my neck had created much more than just being slightly puffed up for both of us. I'm thinking Kris is about 5 inches hard and of course big mouth Kyle had to announce to everyone that Kris had a stiffy. From Kris's point of view, he simply pointed out that he was not alone. Now with everyone laughing including Jake it was our turn and we lunged at both Justin and Keith and Kyle and Ethan and had them all underwater; Kris and I were the victors! The game was over and `things' were deflated and we decided it was time to head for Cormorant Cove and dinner. We were back on Jabbering and everyone quickly rinsed off with freshwater and were back in swim shorts even the rug-rats, after complaining that is. The sail back was just perfect and we had one laugh after another as we looked at the photos that Jake took. We decided it was a great night for burgers on the charcoal grill with all the fixings including potato salad as well as a tossed green salad with an Italian dressing made with anchovies. Everyone really liked the Italian dressing; Jake and I just didn't tell them it was made with anchovies. We called for the launch to pick Kris up at 9 and played Monopoly until it arrived. Kris thought Keith was going ashore with him but Keith had been invited to spend the night. The look on Kris's face was quite interesting. Time passed quickly and it was about 10:30 when we were ready for bed. Tonight, sleeping arrangements were changed slightly with Keith staying over. Rug-rats got to sleep in the big bed in the salon and Ethan and Keith got the forward cabin as it is a large V twin birth or queen bed depending how it is set up. Keith and Ethan decided to have the forward cabin as ............... To be Continued . . . . .
