Thanks to all Nifty Staff for their help. http://donate.nifty.org/donate.html Story is fiction, names fabricated, locations accurate. There may be some sex; it will be gentle and loving. A Neglected Boy "The Twins" XLIII jacoblion@tutanota.com I looked at Kori as he watched Liam slowly turn the key; .... the lock clicked loudly and the door opened. ........... There was not a sound in the yard, not a bird chirped, not a leaf turned on a tree and the air stood still. We waited. The suspense filled the entire farm and yet not a sound. Kori, Ethan, Abby, Justin, Kyle, Liam's twins stood motionless almost like they were frozen in time. We watched as Liam stepped in; although it was just a few seconds it felt like hours. Then we heard ........ "DAD! Dad, you and Kori .... you guys bought the farm! OMG, you bought back the farm!" Liam came running and tackled Kori pinning him to the ground as we heard Liam say . . . . "You dirty rotten bastard you and Dad put Abby and me through `Hell' all day but I love you for it. I missed this place so much." ........ Ethan was holding Kyle and Justin back and trying to explain that this was a happy tackle as the rug-rats were about to defend Kori. Justin looked at me and said ..... "Dad he said a bad word." The boys understood and Ethan let them go and now there was a pile of boys on the lawn just off the back porch. The pile grew bigger as Alex and Will jumped on and there was laughter this farm had not heard in twenty years. Ethan was standing next to me and noticed a tear as it ran down my cheek, not saying a word he put his arm around my back and hugged me as we watched the happiness of all the boys rolling about on the lawn. I remembered when Liam came home with Kori and me and their first bath together. Liam had been beaten so badly that his back was all black and blue and Kori started to cry .................. I held Liam close and gently washed his back. He didn't say anything he just kept singing. I washed down to his little butt, he turned around and like Kori he put one foot on the edge of the tub and I washed all the way to his little toes, he laughed when I washed in-between each toe. He sat and I lathered his hair, he just kept singing. I rinsed Liam and as the water was draining, I grabbed a big towel and wrapped it around him afraid to rub his back. The memory of that will never go away. Ethan hollered ... "lookout Jake" ... but it was too late as I was dragged to the ground by a bunch of wild Indians. Ethan didn't escape and thank goodness Abby was the smart one staying back and taking tons of photos and video of all this foolishness on the lawn in the backyard of our home here in Ashfield. I was almost to the very bottom of the pile when I felt strong arms around me and I heard in a whisper .... "I love you Dad", it was Liam. From somewhere in the pile we all could hear . . . . "I'm hungry" . . . . in a slight Korean accent. Well, the pile broke apart quickly and we all headed for the kitchen. I asked Liam how he knew so quickly that we had bought the farm. Liam just held up the contract from the table. In our hurry this morning Kori and I forgot to hide the contract. Abby, Ethan, and Kori began to empty the refrigerator making piles of ham, cheese, olive loaf, lettuce, tomato, peanut butter and jelly, and bread so that everyone could make their sandwiches. On the counter were chips and a line of assorted drinks of flavored water, juice, soda and some ice tea that looked like almost black and we all knew who that was for. Liam and I sat on the porch steps and watched Justin and Kyle pulling Will and Alex in the old cart, they were giggling and laughing. Liam said . . . . "Dad, it looks like Alex and Will made friends with Kyle and Justin and I bet that old cart will get a few miles on it in the next 2 days. The sandwiches were made and it was so cute to watch Justin and Kyle holding hands with Alex and Will as they skipped up to the porch steps. It's pure joy to watch almost 3-year-olds eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. We all laughed there was so much peanut butter on their faces, Will's nose looked like it had been dipped in peanut butter. Our late lunch was over, kitchen cleaned and we decided to take a ride up to Holly Hill. It would be a good walk especially for the rug-rats and Alex and Will, although they were in some kind of contraption on Abby and Liam's back. I looked at Liam and said . . . . "Spoiled, walking is good." . . . . Liam replied . . . . "they're not 3 yet Dad." ........ Kori and Ethan found Liam's reply quite amusing for some reason. I thought ..... "Am I getting old?" There were a few new houses along the road as we neared the trail to Holly Hill. We pulled off at the same spot that we used to park it was still all dirt and gravel and lots of tire tracks. Memories came back to the day Kori and I first rode Eric and Dusty up this trail. Kori was in front that day and I wanted him to see what was coming . . . . Then I heard "Hey, Jake I remember the first day we came here." Kori said .... but then he became very quiet. He started to walk slower, letting the others go ahead, until he was next to me and I felt his hand take mine, then I noticed his tears, he remembered it was the day was the day his mother died. Kori said . . . . "I remember you said to let Eric do all the work that he was well trained. You made me stay in front because you wanted me to see the meadow first." . . . . It was just about then that we all rounded that corner and like before the trail opened up to this beautiful meadow and there at the other end was that amazing waterfall dropping from a granite cliff into a wide shallow pool. Liam turned and was already laughing and then he began to tell stories about skinny dipping and playing fun games and he looked at Kori and asked . . . . "Kori, remember the day you, Peter, me, Ning, Riku, Garret were all skinny dipping and that old couple came by and just watched us? .... OMG the rug-rats were laughing so hard. The pond looked bigger but still looked only about 18 inches deep and before anyone could say anything .............. Kyle and Justin were in the water ..... naked. . . . . "It's freezing" they hollered. Ethan decided not go in this time; I think it was because Abby was here . . . . Everyone was laughing and Kori was standing beside me and I heard him as he whispered those 3 words .... "I love you, and we need to figure out how to have horses!" We needed to get back to the farm; Will and Alex needed to have a good nap they were tired and a little cranky. Kori told Abby and Liam that they would have Justin and Kyle's room, Liam's old room, and that the rug-rats would sleep with me and Kori ......... or ........ Ethan, so Ethan better not spend so much time texting Keith or it could end up a very `hard' night. Abby, Will, and Alex were taking a nap and Kyle and Justin were out playing when Liam said . . . . "Dad, Kori and I are going to take a little ride and pick up some apple cider at Elmer's Store we'll be back soon." . . . . I knew that Kori and Liam needed some time to talk about things so Ethan and I walked around the house and the upper and lower pasture making mental notes about things we needed to fix or change or build. Soon Ethan and I heard the rumbling of that old cart and who were now tagging along but those cute little boys we call rug-rats. Kyle and Justin asked if they could have swings and Ethan and I thought that was a great idea but not just those little swings but real big ones. The thought was exciting enough that we were almost at a run back to the house. We left Abby a note saying where Liam and Kori were and where rug-rats, Ethan I were going ........... Home Depot! OMG, this was going to be a huge awesome swing. We bought 16 foot 4x4 posts for uprights, 12 foot 4x4 for braces and a 20 foot 4x4 for the top. Now we needed rope, and a 2x8x12 to make 5 seats. We added 4 bags of quick dry cement for the braces and it would all be delivered in the morning. Now we all promised not to say anything to anyone and let everyone be surprised. It was back to the farm and pick out the best place for this humongous swing. Abby, Alex, and Will were just getting up and Liam and Kori were still not home. Ethan, Justin and Kyle helped move all the chairs and table out onto the back porch for a real nice steak BBQ for dinner. Abby, Will and Alex sat in the living room and watched cartoons while Ethan, rug-rats and I looked for that special spot and chuckled a little about not telling anyone. Oh, were they all going to be surprised when the truck arrived first thing in the morning. Soon Kori and Liam arrived and were telling us about how the school had changed and so many other things and all the new houses. Dinner was great and then we watched TV for a bit then it was off to showers for us and bed. Well, the story about bed. Liam, Abby, Will and Alex were just fine and must have gone right to sleep. Ethan took a shower and when he went to his room Justin and Kyle were in his bed so Ethan just closed his door saying . . . . "fine I'll just go sleep with Jake and Kori." . . . . The rug-rats pushed Ethan aside and there was a mad dash down the hall through the kitchen through the back hall and they took a flying leap landing in the middle of our bed ........... CRACK! ......... 4 of the center slats, the ones that support the entire bed, and the side rail broke! The bed fell apart and the mattress, the "New Mattress" along with me, Kori and the `brats' were now on the floor with Ethan standing at the door doubled over with laughter. It must have been really loud because now Liam was at the door ....... laughing. We .... No, the rug-rat-brats, picked up all the broken pieces and now we were sleeping on our `new mattress' on the floor. Ok, it was rather funny. I pretended to be really angry till Kori started laughing. Finally, we calmed down and sleep came quickly. Sometime in the night I felt Justin grab my hand and pull my arm over him; then his arms were wrapped around mine. I looked at Kori all curled up so very tightly around Kyle as if he was protecting him from all the bad in the world. It was not the usual aggravating sun that woke us ... no, no what I heard was the sound of the lumber truck arriving very, very early. Funny though Kori and I jumped out of bed at the same time almost like he knew about the lumber truck and we were followed by Kyle and Justin giggling. Shorts were pulled on quickly and we were all moving fast toward the back porch right along with Ethan and Liam. Through the back door across the porch down the steps across the yard .................... and then the sound of another truck. "What the hell?" ...... Justin gave me the bad language look. There pulled up by the barn was a Ford 350 pickup pulling a long horse trailer, followed by the Home Depot lumber truck, followed by another Ford 350 pulling another horse trailer. Liam and Kori were looking at me, Ethan, Justin, me and Kyle and well, we were looking at Liam and Kori and now Abby, Alex and Will were looking at all of us. Liam and Kori began to laugh and ask what was the lumber truck doing as Ethan and I were asking about the horse trailers. Finally, the story became untangled. When Liam and Kori went for their little ride yesterday, they went to the riding school where they also rent horses for the day or week. ...... ahhhhh ...... and Kori and Liam thought it would be great for us to all go horseback riding for the day. Now about that lumber truck. Ethan and I had to explain that we were going to build a humongous swing set so 5 people could swing at the same time. We all stood there laughing, signed papers for horses and lumber and listening to some peoples saying .... "We're hungry" .... Ok, ok, ok already! The day was off to a great start; ... French Toast ......... To be Continued . . . . . A Neglected Boy "The Twins XLIV" I hope you enjoyed the story, Please let me know.
