Just a reminder the story is told by either Jake or Kori in alternating Chapters. A Neglected Boy "The Twins" LXXIX jacoblion@tutanota.com I turned to the Judge and said . . . . `Henry can you please watch Justin and Kyle?" . . . . Kori and I were already at a run toward the office as Henry shouted . . . . "just go Jake we'll be fine." ... ... I glanced back to see the Judge hugging all the boys and walking slowly toward the drink machines. Kori was already in the office when I opened the door. Kevin was giving Ethan a second ice bag for his hand as I entered. Kori and I really appreciated Kevin's next move when he excused security asking them to wait outside. He shook hands with Kori and me, handed us a bottle of ibuprofen and as he stepped out said . . . . "Jake, Kori, .. I think it's best you be alone with Ethan to try to find out what created this mess." Ethan was literally shaking. Kori handed him 2 ibuprofen and water. We sat and I just told Ethan to take a few minutes and breath slowly, in and out, in and out. He began to calm down. Neither Kori or I pushed for an answer and gave Ethan time to get his head together. He began to look first at Kori then at me. He was just about to speak when the door burst open as Keith pushed by Kevin and security and screamed . . . . "Ethan are you Ok? ... what the hell did you do? ... Why?" ... ... security and Kevin dragged Keith back through the door. That was all Ethan could take as he emotionally burst into tears. Kori and I have never heard Ethan curse and rant as he began to tell us what caused him to completely meltdown and strike Felipe. He said........ "I began to notice something was out of place when Keith took the steps back then approached the end of the platform for that disastrous dive. At that point I couldn't see Felipe and it wasn't until Keith's attempt at the last dive that I knew Felipe was trying to distract him but, I was afraid to move. Ethan continued ........... I wanted to know what that prick was up to and when I confronted him it was what Felipe whispered, and, that was that he would wait till I had a late night with the Yacht Club launch; then he'd screw Keith till it hurt and he couldn't walk. No one would think anything of it because Keith is a little whore. I was turning to walk away and I don't know what happened I lost it and just exploded.".......... ..........Kori and I both knew Ethan didn't even think that we're not going to Block Island, he isn't running the launch, Ethan only heard what Felipe was going to do to Keith. But this was not the time to go into that. Kevin joined Kori, me and Ethan and said that he and 2 of the swim coaches have interviewed Felipe and that Felipe has stated he doesn't know why Ethan hit him. He was watching the diving competition and gave Keith a `thumbs up'. So, now there are 3 different stories, Ethan's, Felipe's, and what Keith said and that was that Felipe just kept trying to distract him. To make matters worse Kevin has to refer the incident to the school disciplinary board for review. We joined the Judge and six sad and confused boys. Kyle and Justin immediately hugged and clung to Ethan and Keith. Lorenzo was about to ask Ethan something when the Judge said . . . . "Not now Lorenzo, let's just settle down and get something to eat I'm starving." There were a few smiles but Keith and Ethan just wanted to go home. Kori dropped the teens at home then joined the rest of us at the Great Wall of China. The restaurant was Henry's choice. ... ... I think his arm was twisted. Dinner was great as usual with 3 fortune cookies each for the boys. Henry gave $20.00 to Antonio to get tokens for the games. Seems Henry is getting more than his share of hugs tonight. With the boys in the arcade room playing games we had a chance to discuss the situation. Henry said he was surprised at Ethan and would like to know where the anger came from. Kori was more forgiving and could understand the threat and reminded me and Henry that Ethan is just 17. It may not have happened if Felipe had not said what he would do to Keith. I'm trying to look at all sides of this. Ethan is so loving and gentle but, then again there have been a few signs of temper. I have thought it is being a teen, gay, the responsibility to University School, honor grades. We sometimes forget that he is still dealing with the continued problem of his parents being incarcerated in Greece. It all adds up to an unbelievable amount of stress for a kid that just turned 17. I excused myself for a minute and called Ethan no answer. I called Keith's cell, ringing ... ... ... ... he answered and said Ethan was asleep. I told Keith . . . . "Keith, I don't sleep is good right now it might add to his depression. Wake him up pack a few things and have Ethan pack a few things for the rug-rats, were leaving for the farm tonight." ...... Keith was excited and I could hear him waking Ethan. I returned to the table and told Kori and Henry what I just told Keith to do. They both thought that was a good move and to let Ethan have time away from here. Then I asked Henry for a big favor and take his 4 boys' home and have them pack so they could go with us. It will be the last visit to the farm for Marco and Lorenzo. Henry agreed. Soon we were out the door of the restaurant with a nice to-go box for Ethan and Keith and 6 very excited boys, 7 if you count Kori. It was the typical scramble to see who was sitting where. On the way home I explained that it would be good not to ask or pester Ethan and Keith about the thing at the pool. Justin asked .... "What thing `Dad'? ... what are you talking about?" ... then he and Kyle just looked like they were playing dumb. ... ... I know those to no-good brats are smarter than they pretend to be. Arriving home Ethan and Keith had 4 bags packed and the game modules for Kyle and Justin. The teens inhaled the to-go boxes just as Henry arrived with his 4 boys and backpacks. I asked Ethan for the keys to the Willys ... he didn't ask any questions just handed them to me. He and Keith will ride with me driving the Willys. Poor Kori gets all six of the other boys to be with him in the SUV. We were about 40 minutes into the drive to Ashfield when Kori pulled into a rest area. Doors open and it was a mad dash to the restroom. There were constant laughs about Parker's incident with Jimmy. We were just about to get back in the vehicles when Kori held out his hand and said it was my turn driving the bus. I was feeling better because Ethan was looking and sounding a little better. I closed the door checked and asked if everyone was buckled in. All secure and away we went north to the farm. For about 4 minutes things were quiet then Antonio asked if Ethan was in trouble. What little talking there was turned to silence when Antonio asked that question. I tried to explain, as simply as I could, that sometimes when we do things without thinking about the outcome, we cause problems for ourselves. Then as quickly as I could I changed the subject to Peter and Neil's new home and horseback riding tomorrow. Arriving at the farm we were greeted by Neil, Peter, Lars, and Lukas. Entering the kitchen was perhaps the best moment and feeling I've had in a few weeks. Yes, it was full of people and they were all talking at once and yet for some unknown reason it felt so welcoming and peaceful. "This old farm feels like a long-lost friend". Coffee, tea, milk, hot chocolate, warm biscuits, and hugs. Everything felt good again. There was no talk of what had happened and Ethan was looking better as he stood against the kitchen counter being protected by Keith, Kyle and Justin. Soon it was just Kori, Peter, Neil and me the boys had all gone to the barn to check on the horses; we told the boys 5 or 10 minutes then showers and bed. Kori and I filled Peter and Neil in on the short version of the happenings and walked toward the barn just as the boys were returning. Neil and Peter latched onto Lars and Lukas ... they said their goodnights and invited us for breakfast at 9 am and warned us not to be late. Back in the kitchen, it was orders for showers and bed and no excuses, and no noise, and no fooling around, and no more questions! ... The kitchen was empty and quiet. ... Wait ... "Kyle, Justin, and Marco where are you going?" . . . . "Big shower `Dad' the other one is already full". . . . . Ok, Kyle make it fast Kori and I need a shower too, Oh, and don't use all the hot water! ... hmmmm ... Like he really heard what I said. Not more than 10 minutes and the parade of 3 naked kids marched right passed Kori and me dragging their towels and giving a cheeky little smile. ... Ahhhh, Kori and I get the shower and the bed to ourselves. The shower was inviting and the water warm, not hot, warm was just perfect. We found our way to the bed and I think we both passed out. Emotional exhaustion. It was after 2-am I had slept soundly for 3 hours. I turned and Kori was flat on his back and he must be having a good dream judging by the tenting of the thin covers. I quietly slipped from bed and poured a little OJ and sprite. I don't know why but I looked in the living room and found Ethan sitting on the couch. I walked over and sat next to him. He leaned against me and said he was sorry. Ethan didn't say anything else and I didn't ask. I think, like I had thought before that there must be so much that he is dealing with that right now he's stressed to the limit. In some ways Ethan is very much like Kori and he will talk about it when he's ready. I felt him take my hand and we just rested together. It was nearly 4 am when Keith came and sat on the other side of Ethan. A minute later Ethan shifted ... now resting against Keith. I looked in the rug-rats bedroom to find Lorenzo snuggled up with Marco, Kyle and Justin. I quietly crept down 4 stairs to check on Antonio and Kris. Those two belong together. Returning to my bedroom I found Kori just as I left him and that included the tent under the thin covers. I want that same dream. Morning came with an entourage of naked Korean and Italian boys charging through our bedroom door demanding that Kori and I hurry and get up ... and, stop being so lazy. ... ... If Justin and Kori say that 1 more time ... Oh, never mind they were all cute and on their way to the `big' shower. So, they want to play games? ... Well, Kori and I can play that game too. I grabbed Kori's hand and tugged but, when he realized what I was up to he began moving quickly. ... ... Ahhhh, the expression on Lorenzo's face when I pulled back the shower curtain and Kori and I just shoved those little brats aside and left them no room to escape. Kyle and Justin thought it was a party. Marco and Lorenzo were a little shy but began to enjoy every little circle of the sea sponge as Kori and I began to soap them up from head to toe. Rug-rats were at full attention the second the sponge touched them. It took Lorenzo about 10 seconds for his erection to point almost directly up and Marco was last but just as hard as his brother. Kori and I took turns soaping each little studmuffin several times head to toe. Lorenzo was purring like a kitten and Kyle and Justin repeating "do it again". I handed the sponge to Marco so he could wash his brother's chest as I used my hand to soap his back. I did the slow circles thing and as I passed those cute little cheeks, he parted his legs just slightly. My hand slid through just touching his little sack. He turned quickly his erection pointing up with pure clear drops of sweetness. I started at his feet and began washing upward ... ... Geeeeze, I'd like to `kill' the brat that turned the water to cold at that very moment. With the help of Ethan and Keith the horse's stalls had already been mucked out. They were in the shower while Kori and I had the job of trying to get the rest of the crew dressed. I know everyone might think it's easy to just tell 6 boys ages 10 -- 15 to go get dressed. ... It's not! 10-year-old Korean Twins never stop talking, and can't coordinate moving their mouths with putting on socks or their boxers. Antonio's hands seem to enjoy being more on the front of Kris's boxers or checking if Lorenzo has zipped up his new shorts than buttoning his shirt. We needed to be down at Neil and Peter's for breakfast at 9 sharp and Neil had made a point of saying don't be late. We had 10 minutes. ... Kori lost it and hollered . . . . "Q u i e t ! ! ! ... don't anyone say another word. Antonio keep your hands to your self and tie your shoes. Kris don't laugh! I want everyone on the back porch in 2 minutes! Justin and Kyle `NO' talking!" Guess we know who's boss. I had Justin's hand and following Kori who had latched onto Kyle and we were all in what I would describe as a `Quick march'. It was 9 and we were at the front steps of the grandest most magnificent log home I've ever seen. It reminded me of some of the beautiful huge lodges you see in our National Parks. The landscaping had just been finished. The entire front porch was lined with rose bushes. There were David Austin roses, rugosa roses, climbing roses, and just surrounding the steps were low-growing carpet roses. Some were already in bloom and their fragrance was sweet and amazing. The boys were talking ... however, very softly. Peter, Lars, and Lukas were first to greet us then Neil from one end of the porch hollered . . . . "Just don't stand there breakfast's ready." . . . . it was so typical of Neil's gruff manner but the smile gives he gentle nature away. We all followed Peter, Lukas and Lars into what I would call the `Great room'. Ok, most houses have a living room but this was much more. There were large sofas and love seats at the extreme ends of the room and a beautiful selection of love seats and grand chairs all in leather as a main seating area in front of a massive fireplace. Excuse me ... the dining room is this way and you better hurry. That was Neil's voice again. There were 14 of us and the food was placed by Peter, Lars, and Lukas from one end of the table to the other. Pancakes, waffles, scrambled eggs on 2 huge platters, bacon, and 3 kinds of breakfast sausages. Home fried potatoes, toast, and homemade biscuits. Coffee, some kind of tea that Kori loved, OJ, milk and hot chocolate. It was almost 10:30 when breakfast was finished. I looked around at the empty plates and serving dishes ... we ate everything. I think the smile on everyone's faces told Neil what an excellent breakfast it was. Neil and Peter received many hugs from our crew and then it was time to explore. The boys all 10 of them followed Lukas and Lars on the grand tour. Neil, Peter, Kori and I walked from room to room as Peter and Neil explained about the wood. Peter explained that almost all the wood used in the house was from the local area or states. Much of the house we noticed showed finished logs inside and out. Some walls were of finished Knotty Pine other walls in Vermont Maple and 2 rooms had one wall in Eastern Aromatic Cedar and that was amazing. In the `Great Room' side tables and low long coffee tables were of Walnut, Mahogany, Rosewood and Yorba Hickory. The choice of different woods placed in just the right spots added to the elegance of the room. Peter, Neil, Kori and I sat on the front porch overlooking the 80 acres they had bought and began discussing their idea of a summer camp. Well, the summer camp idea actually had become the idea of a residential home for abused and neglected boys. The residential estate would be for boys in a tri-state area of Massachusetts, Vermont, and Connecticut. Our conversation needed to be put on hold as a group of wild Mahican Indians arrived. We decided it was time to head back to the farm and get ready for a good ride, yes, horseback ride. Neil and Peter thought perhaps Ethan and Keith could take charge of the ride and Kori and I could help set up for a good late afternoon cookout down at the end of the old orchard. That was a great idea because then all 10 boys could have the pleasure of riding together with no one doubled up. ... Not sure if Antonio was happy about that or not. I think he was looking forward to riding double with Kris and I caught a glance at Lorenzo and he wasn't looking all that happy either. With all the boys saddled, I should say with the horses saddled the boys were ready for their adventure. Most had their cameras and had promised to listen to Ethan and Keith. ... Ahhhh, Yes, ... `The Twins and Marco' and their big mouths about going on a hunt for the bear. ... Now, `father Kori' with deliberate steps approached Kyle and Justin ... Oh,....... ........I don't know what he said but he wasn't getting smiley faces from the rug-rats. The crew looked more like a U S Army Calvary scouting party than a group of kids out for a horseback ride. Captain Ethan and Lieutenant Keith in firm command. Kori and I walked down to the `big house' and joined Neil and Peter. We loaded Neil's Ford 350 with 3 large coolers and headed off to the Orchard. I thought the grill may already be there. I was wrong. Surprise. ... That area where we had our picnics before was all cleared. A nice firepit, covered deck and a great outhouse all finished. The 4 of us sat and talked about the boys, sailing, Lorenzo and Marco returning to Naples in just over a week. Then the conversation turned to Ethan and the incident. We were waiting to see what the University School and discipline committee will recommend. I was relieved to hear the horses and loud talking as they approached the picnic area ... it gave me reason to change the subject. Horses hitched, boys all jabbering and the fire started. Then came the stories. On the way the scouting party spotted 6 deer, and number of birds, and they thought they could see that really big black bear through the woods down near the stream. Keith said they all dismounted and examined the poop. (scat) Yes, agreed it was definitely bear poop. (scat) ... Kori just had to get more information and asked ... "How do you really know it was bear poop? (scat) Kyle, you've never even seen bear poop." (scat) . . . . I spotted Kyle reach for something as he said . . . . "Oh yeah, `Dad' so what's this?" . . . . as Kyle produced a large nearly round dark brown ball of dung. (scat) I thought Neil was going to fall over he was laughing so hard. That started things as Lars said . . . . "Yep, I got one too." Then Kris said he wanted to see it so Lars just tossed it to him. Kids and adults were on the ground laughing as this round ball of dung, about the size of a tennis ball, got tossed from one to another. ... Very `gross'. Peter walked everyone to the creek and we all washed our hands, with laughter and now the creek water has many impurities. I heard Kori say . . . . "Jake will you look at them, it's going to be an interesting summer for sure!" ......I turned and, ... there standing at the very edge of the creek, with toes just about in the water are Lars, Marco, Justin, Lukas, Kris, Kyle, Antonio, and Lorenzo seeing who could pee furthest. Kris won. Back at the table burgers, hotdogs and sausages along with potato salad, chips and a cooler full of drinks were ready for the gruesome crew. Neil and Peter were treating us to the best day full of fun and adventure along with so many good laughs. We were sad when Lorenzo brought up the return to Naples with his brother in just about 2 weeks. With everything cleaned we packed the truck and this time Ethan and Keith stayed with Peter and Neil to help bring things back to their log home. I think it needs a name. On the trail back 8 boys needed to stop and show Kori and me just where that bear poop (scat) was and how close it was to the trail. Well, Kori and I do have to agree it was a rather large pile of poop. (scat) Soon we were back at the barn and turned the horses out to have a run and role in the dirt. Some boys will be grooming horses after dinner. Dinner was the famous Liam meatloaf ... no not his Shepard's pie, his meatloaf. The table was good for 10 bodies if you squeeze everyone close but 14 with Neil, Peter, Lukas, and Lars so it was set up the 2 long folding tables and eat on the back porch. We were almost finished with dinner, almost finished. ... Out of nowhere ... right on the other side of the big swing set; ... right against the 80-acre property line stood what looked like that huge black bear that had been relocated back in the fall. Yes, I said he stood! He was on the other side of the fence but, he was also close enough that we could see his eyes. The boys were so excited and the rug-rats were cheering that he was back and that he was their bear. ... Problem, yes there was going to be a problem with the rug-rats and `their bear'. Neil called the area game and fish officer and immediately became a no-good, double-crossing, backstabbing `redneck'. Kori and Ethan grabbed Justin and Kyle and dragged them in the house for a quick talk. A few minutes later 2 very polite and apologetic Korean boys appeared and gave uncle Neil big hugs. It was time to wish Peter, Neil, Lukas, and Lars a good night and get the rest of the crew settled down. We had decided that it would be best to grab a quick breakfast and get on the road back to New Haven. With only one more week of school the list of `todos' is getting longer and next weekend will be under the direction of Captain Kori. The boys showered 2 or 3 at a time and Kori and I waited till everyone was finished and in bed. Honestly sometimes Kori and I feel like having some fun and sometimes we don't. The house was silent. The house was silent until Korean rug-rats came storming in without knocking and it was an emergency. Kori and I found ourselves being tugged down the hall. ... That bear was outside their window. Marco and Lorenzo were glued to the window as Kori and I snatched them up and pulled them away from the window. Neither of us could see the bear. We shined the light out the window and nothing appeared. Good thing Kori and I were not in the mood for any fun. ... Why? ... Our bed is a `King" size bed and now it had 2 Italian and 2 Korean brats in it along with me and Kori. ... Someone farted! ... "Turn the fan on `Dad', please" ... Go to sleep Kyle! ... giggles, snorts and other assorted sounds. Morning came and it was obvious that some boys had had some fun. When I passed by the laundry room the washer was being loaded with 6 towels and Antonio and Kris looked guilty. Ethan and Keith appeared with 2 more towels just as Kris was closing the lid. Ethan added a little bleach. Breakfast was made and served by the teens all 4 of them. Kori asked if they had washed their hands first. Immediately Antonio headed for the bathroom down the hall next to the rug-rats bedroom and returned with a smile. All of a sudden Kori jumped up and ran out the back door. He returned not more than a minute later with the news. ... ... ... Rug-rats were right there had been a bear just outside their window, ... and the proof? ... Poop and lots of it. 8 brats of various sizes with and without shoes or shorts ran out the door. Oh, I can hear the stories they will tell in school. Hopefully, no one will believe them. We were packed and hit road just before noon. The trip home was fun and we only had to stop once to water a tree or two. We arrived home at 2 pm and Henry drove over and picked up Antonio, Kris, Lorenzo and Marco. We explained the plans for next weekend and cleaning Jabbering and then an overnight cruise with Lorenzo and Marco. The big question, not discussed, was what the discipline committee had decided about Ethan............................
