Just a reminder the story is told by either Jake or Kori in alternating Chapters. A Neglected Boy "The Twins" LXXXIII jacoblion@tutanota.com I looked at Kori as Ethan and Keith were pulling on boxers and told him it was fun but, I needed a few nights `off' he agreed. The teens headed up on deck for a cold shower, they needed it. Kori and I took a quick shower before stepping out of our cabin and into the salon for breakfast. Pancakes or Froot Loops, toast, banana, `Tea', not for me, coffee, yes, strong coffee, 3 cups for me, Ethan, and Keith, who looked very tired. The rest of the boys had milk and OJ. Lorenzo tried my coffee and said it was like dishwater and suggested an Italian brand. I had plenty in Naples but, I'll stick to my dark Colombian brand it's strong enough. The crew was excited to get going with our plans for the day. There were options like hiking, snorkeling, tour the main street area, (boring) or go fishing. However, it was almost a unanimous decision to rent 5 sailing dinghies. Kori and I would rather have rented Kayaks the other 8 of the crew won. Ok, not so bad when they started talking about a race. Yes, we could race and the winner gets to choose our dinner place tonight. Kori and I had this situation in the bag. Not so quick ... as the arguments began who was in which boat with who. The discussion quickly got out of hand and nearly ended in a brawl. So typical of a bunch of crass sailors. Kyle and Lorenzo watch the mouth! ! ! Finally, 5 crews were decided with much argument and pouting. One boat crew was `elated'. Our crews; Ethan and Kyle, Keith and Justin, Justin was all smiles, Kori and Lorenzo, Lorenzo was smiling and Kori was nervous, me and Marco, Marco was Ok with that. Then we have the `elated' crew comprising of Kris and Antonio. Well, we know they will most likely be last to cross the finish line. Kori and I thought it best to set some ground rules. 1, swimsuits remain on, and that rule was immediately objected to. ... 2, NO fooling around. Well, that got giggles, smirks, and a few chuckles. Antonio looked at Kori and me with that slightly naughty look and gave me a wink as his hand brushed the front of Kris's shorts. We packed dry bags with drinks, chips, and sandwiches. Kori and I waited in the cockpit while the boys all changed into swimsuits, mostly Speedos, and then colorful shorts over the swimsuits for later. We were almost ready ... just waiting for Antonio ... he was last to join us and already had a guilty face. There it was that smirk that said he was up to something and it was causing Keith and Kris to try and hide their slippery little smiles. Kris kept looking at the front of Antonio's shorts ... ahhhh, the giveaway. Kori said . . . . "Antonio, let's see your swimsuit." Antonio was already laughing when he dropped his shorts. There he stood with this swimsuit that looked like an elephant's head complete with a pouch for his penis that made the elephant's trunk. Lorenzo looked at it and said . . . . "Hey, a baby elephant." ... ... Ok, I have to admit I was laughing too. ... ... ... "Antonio, go change, Now!" Kori said ... but, we all did have a good laugh and it was funny and Lorenzo was right it did look like a baby elephant. The launch arrived and we were off. We arrived at the sailboat rental place and were greeted by 2 good looking teens. I'm thinking they were Norwegian or Swedish. It took nearly half-hour for them to explain all the safety rules and what buoy markers we could use for our race. The taller boy, who obviously had a thing for Keith, told us about a great beach where we could have lunch and it was perfect for skinny-dipping. When he said he often has his lunch there Ethan looked at him and said . . . . "Oh, maybe you could join us for lunch and a swim." ... ... Ethan made it sound like a real invitation. ... Keith smiled and turned a little red. In the boats finally and we were off for our sailing adventure. In each of the boats the idea was to let Marco, Kyle, Justin, Lorenzo, and Antonio be the `captains' while Keith, Kori, Ethan, Kris and I were `crew'. I was keeping my fingers crossed I wouldn't be keel hauled or made to walk the plank. The wind was perfect and soon we were joined by some dolphins that were eager to accompany the 5 boats. I'm not sure how Kori reacted when Lorenzo forgot all about sailing. He let go of the tiller to watch the dolphin allowing the dinghy to swing rapidly to port. The boom smacked Kori upside of the head. I think I heard what Kori hollered but don't want to repeat it. The race to the buoy marker was quickly forgotten as we all began some interplay with the dolphins. Marco and I agreed that these dolphins are used to entertaining tourists in these dinghies. It was just a few minutes and we had one right against the side of the boat as did the others. It was amazing for all of us to pet them. We were nearing the beach that our young friend had told us about. I could hear Justin singing his `I'm hungry' song. Really the song is the "Armour Hot Dog" song with Justin's words. Problem is he can't sing and keep his hand on the tiller too. Fortunately, Keith grabbed the boom just as it was about to attack. We pulled the boats up on the sandy beach and found just the perfect spot for lunch. Kori, Ethan, and Keith were stretching out the towels while I and the other boys found some rocks to hold down the corners. Our brightly colored Jamaican beach towels made it look as if we at some Caribbean resort. We turned to see who was approaching when we heard the sound of an outboard motor. ... ... Ahhhh, the invited `tall blond boy' ... ... ... Oh, the smile on Keith's face. The boat slid to a gentle stop on the sand. He had an incredible smile and we quickly learned his name was Bjorn. He brought a large cooler packed with ice, soda, and juice. After lunch he went to his boat and brought out this game called `Corn-hole' we've always called it `beanbag' game. You toss bean bags to the board with holes in it ... different points for each hole. It was just good family fun and we all liked this kid. Keith liked him quite a bit. We did the `swim between the legs thing, ... I'll just leave it there. Fun time was over and we got a surprise when Bjorn said the owner of the shop invited us to a pig roast tonight; Ethan jumped in with "Yes", a Luau. Now that said `party time' to all the crew and the rug-rats were already dancing. There was no getting out of it and who would want to miss a good party. Certainly not Keith. Kori and I had a few minutes to talk and compare notes. Every day we are with these boys brings something new and exciting to us. Eight boys each with their own personalities, each slightly different in their own way but, deep inside there is something that defines their love as brothers. Peter was so right when he said there was something special about each of them. Bjorn had headed back to the rental shop and we packed up. Now it was time for a serious race. Something happened during the race that brought back memories of when I was 15 and sailing yacht club races in Newport. We were just about to round the marker buoy. Kris and Antonio were in front and had about 4 boat lengths ahead when Antonio dropped his swimsuit and mooned the rest of us. ... ... Hahaha! ... ... we all got the last laugh when he lost his balance and fell overboard. That was just part of it. In falling overboard, he lost his swimsuit and Keith and Justin picked it up. The very colorful Speedo got tossed from boat to boat. Marco thought it would be a great hat and slipped it on. Laughter and cheers for Marco. We were now in front and heading for the beach. I don't know how Kori and Lorenzo did it but they won. For the rest of the afternoon 8 of us were reminded who won, over and over Lorenzo danced his little jig singing his song of `winners'. It was just the best day of the trip and something Marco and Lorenzo will talk about with all their friends back in Naples. I know we all will miss them. Kori and I haven't said anything to anyone but we would like Alina and the boys to join us for Christmas. Yep, we're thinking ahead. We cleaned all the boats and headed back to the rental shop. The crew was happy, sunburned, tired, and thirsty. Arriving at the dock we were met by Bjorn dragging a cart filled with ice cold drinks. Dang, this kid is hospitality plus. A tall and slightly graying man approached and was introduced as Gustav the owner and Bjorn's uncle. Immediately we were welcomed and made to feel like family. Gustav gave us the key to the shower room so we could all freshen up, no funny stuff, and then join the rest of the family/guests. The shower was cool and refreshing. There were lots of laughs but all and all everyone behaved; even Antonio. We made our way to the backyard. Wow! The backyard was a huge stone patio with a large freshwater pool, 3 firepits and a display of Japanese lanterns that would rival anything I have ever seen. This was a family affair with perhaps 5 or 6 close friends. We were honored to be asked. Things aren't always what they may appear to be ... or, don't judge a book by its cover. Bjorn gathered everyone and introduced each of us to each of the other guests and family members. The expression on Keith's face was something Kori and I will remember for a long time when Bjorn introduced Siri his `girlfriend'. They were a perfect match. She was tall, like Bjorn, slim with blond hair, blue eyes and fair skin. Her long blond hair flowed gently falling off her shoulders like a gentle wave.
