The story is told by Jake Roberts A Neglected Boy "The Twins" XCV jacoblion@tutanota.com Mornings. Good mornings, not-so-good mornings, and great mornings. One thing you can count on is that if you go to bed at night then some type of morning will arrive a few hours later. I guess any morning your feet hit the floor is in some way a good morning. Today, this morning ... well, hugs and little kisses from the rug-rats say that it's a great morning and probably will be a great day. Henry and his two boys, Antonio and Kris, looking a little tired kept praising Ethan and Keith on the scrumptious breakfast. Kori was much better and he and I had to agree with Henry and his horny toads that our breakfast was much better than you could get in any restaurant. The home fries with onion and green pepper and a hint of garlic were done to a golden brown on the outside and tender on the inside. Good show Keith and Ethan! Bacon and soft scrambled eggs, toast with `strawberry jam' completed breakfast, and Kori was raving about how good the tea was. Now one thing Kori and I did notice was the number of times Ethan and Keith just had to put their hand on Bret's shoulder. Pouring his coffee required a hand on his shoulder; handing him his toast required a hand on his shoulder. Keith asked Bret .... "Would you like more home fries, Bret?" ... ... I'm positive that could have been asked without Keith's hand on Bret's shoulder and his thumb rubbing the back of Bret's neck. Now the other thing I noticed, I don't think Kori or anyone else did, was when either Ethan or Keith asked a question, they stood so close to Bret that Bret's elbow seemed to be in contact with about the center of our teen's shorts. Judging by the bulge in Keith's shorts it must have had an exciting effect. Breakfast over. Penny and Silence had their breakfast and a little time in the back yard chasing a ball then they stayed with me while that rowdy crew made a mad dash for the back of Bret's truck. I was amazed it included Kori. Last I saw was the crew heading down the fields toward the bear trap. I had the kitchen back to normal and a load of laundry in. First load was a number of towels with a strong smell of ammonia and bleach. I guess there was lots of activity last night and judging by what was going on at the table I bet tonight will see the same if that bear is still around. I was in the backyard with the Whippets when I spotted Peter's truck loaded with that obnoxious crew of ours pulling right to the backdoor. Kori and Peter were driving the boys like on a cattle drive through the gate and into the backyard. Instructions ... no one is to leave the yard! Dogs in the house! What happened I asked. ... ... "Not good" ...... Kori answered. Before he, Peter, or the Judge could answer 8 other mouths started all explaining at once. Justin and Kyle were so excited it wasn't even in Korenglish it was just Korean. Loud everyone talking at the same time. I was getting bits and pieces of a very exciting story about the bear ... Escaped? ... What? ... Seriously? The story is that as they very quietly tiptoed to the steel drum trap. Not quietly enough and that bear stood right up on its hind legs and snorted at them. Then it turned and headed across the back field. Last spotted it was heading right this way. ... ... That did it for me and I pointed to the back porch and said NOW! Believe it or not, there was no argument. The back porch had everyone standing at the rail looking over our chain link fenced yard to the field where we heard that owl. Henry needed to get back to New Haven. Antonio and Kris tried to escape but Henry said something in Italian and they stopped short then went to get their backpacks. Kori and Peter stood watch on the front porch while Henry, Kris, and Antonio got in the SUV. The rest of the crew joined Peter and Kori and we all waved as Henry and the boys drove out of sight. The last sign of the SUV as it disappeared up the drive gave me a funny feeling in my stomach. It was like part of our family was gone and there was an immediate feeling of emptiness. How do you explain it? The trip through the kitchen to the back porch required everyone to stop at the top right cupboard near the refrigerator for cookies and snack crackers. Then it was bottles of water and finally to the back porch. A return to bathrooms for pee breaks and then off to find cameras and then back. Off in the distance down toward Neil's house, we spotted Neil and Bret and ... and there it was that huge black bear about 150 feet in front of Bret. ... The bear stopped. ... Turned and stood as if defying Bret and Neil to take another step. ... Wrong move for the bear. Bret raised the tranquilizer gun and fired. We could hear the swish sound. It hit the bear in the soft spot on the left side of the upper chest. Hell, that bear turned and began to run full speed right toward our yard. The rug-rats were cheering for the bear along with Lars, and Lukas. The bear ran for about 300 feet but each step was getting slower and slower and finally about 50 feet from our backyard it just dropped. Peter backed his truck up to as near as he could to the bear and he, Kori, Neil, me, and Bret loaded the bear in the back of the truck. Ethan and Keith stayed with the other boys while I went to help unload the bear from the truck to the trap. Neither Kori nor I or Peter and Neil were prepared for what happened when we moved the bear from the truck. Not only did it pee on us but we ended up with our hands and arms covered in bear poop too. What a mess! Bret thanked us for the help, dinner, and a fun time last night. I'm not sure what he was referring too when he was talking about `fun-time'. Then we watched him drive off to relocate the bear more than 150 miles from us. Now, all we had to do is get back up to our place and get out of these stinking clothes. Kori and I arrived on the back porch ... ewww ... Thanks Kyle, and Justin. Ethan brought a towel and the clothes dropped right at the top step; we'll take care of them later. Shower and clean clothes and "what's for lunch?" as Kori and I stepped into the kitchen. It was only 11:15 and then some unexpected news from Kori. "Jake, Ethan, and I are going to head down to the house in New Haven and open everything up and get ready for us to return." ... Not only did I give him a look but, so did Ethan, then it hit the rest of the crew what he just said; the looks weren't happy ones. The kitchen phone rang and it was Neil saying to send his two gangsters' home and pronto. The back door slammed and now it was just Kori, me, Ethan, Keith and the rug-rats. Ethan looked at Kori and said .... "Keith and I already have our schedules except for the swim team. I thought everything was already figured out that we would spend most of the week in New Haven at school and then here on weekends." .... It was the way Ethan said it that also said he was surprised at Kori saying they were leaving for the other house and not happy about it. Kori just said that he needed some help getting things ready and that he didn't want to be alone on the trip. ... ... Hmmm, that sounded good and he and Ethan get along great. Then Kori said .... "The other thing is that I don't want to leave Jake alone with the twerps so Keith can help with them too." Ok, that almost makes sense, but honestly, I can handle Kyle and Justin fine by myself and the dogs too. ... Ahhh, Kori is thinking if he took the rug-rats, who were now complaining they wanted to go, then I would be left with Penny and Silence. ... Ok, Kori is thinking logically as usual. Now all I had to do was say Elmer's for dinner and everything was just fine. Problem solved. Ethan packed a small backpack and Kori grabbed his and we waved bye to them and wished them a good trip. Justin and Kyle took the Whippets out for some exercise and Keith and I ran around the house picking up clothes and getting everything back in order. We were in the living room and we both turned and almost ran into each other. He laughed then stood there looking at me. I could read his mind, and said ... NO! Keith had that smirk but it went away when I pointed to the vacuum and said .... Living room, and all the bedrooms including your playroom in the basement that smells like sex. I must have guessed what goes on down there with Antonio and Kris because he turned bright red. Every so often I glanced out the window or the backdoor to check on the rug-rats. Throw the ball. Penny and Silence run. Rug-rats chase Whippets. Rug-rats fall down and play dead. Silence and Penny run to the rug-rats and revive them with dog kisses and the game starts again. Boys love the dogs ... dogs love the boys. ... I don't have to say how I feel. It's been warm and dusty and I'm trying to get some of the dust off the end tables and the windowsills. Of course, I heard the backdoor slam followed by the hurried footsteps of rug-rats and the galloping little feet of the Whippets following them to their bathroom. I think it was a pee break. A return charge from their bedroom down the hall and a quick left turn into the living room. From the hall entrance to the living room they took flight and all 4, that would be 2 rug-rats and 2 dogs, landed in the center of the couch. ... ... "What's for lunch `Dad' n where's Keith?"............ ............I had just straightened the furniture and the couch cushions and they promptly messed everything up. So, there was only one thing for me to do; I had to teach them a lesson! ... ... I attacked! In my very best `pretend' angry voice, arms raised and hands as if to strangle them I attacked!! ... ... I won't do that again, nope! Our gentle-natured Whippets went from rolling around on the couch with Justin and Kyle to a defensive stance staring and growling at me. Wow, I dropped my angry pose and began to laugh and say it was Ok. ... ... Immediately those bratty little rug-rats began laughing and Penny and Silence began playing again as if nothing had happened. I heard someone chuckling and turned to see Keith as he walked in. He thought the result of my attack was very funny. I chose carefully to be laughing as I attacked him. That attack was successful and Keith was on the bottom of the pile with me, rug-rats and dogs on top. He was squealing like a little kid. Now a little roughhousing and rolling around on the floor with a bunch of us on top of him had its effects. Justin was first to notice as he announced . . . . "Keith's got a boner" .... Ahhhh yes, and it's not going to get any smaller with both Justin and Kyle squeezing it trying to see how big it is, and if it would get bigger. Keith was trying as hard as he could to roll over but that was very difficult to do with me sitting on his chest. The rug-rats were trying to unzip his shorts and I reluctantly had to make them stop but, not before my hand accidentally passed over his zipper as I tried to get Kyle's hand off the bulge. I hollered Lunch and that did break things up, however, I did smile as I helped Keith off the floor. He had that smirk again. Whippets and rug-rats were already in the kitchen and Penny and Silence were being treated to snacks. Ok, lunch. Choice ... grilled hotdogs or toasted cheese. ... and the winner is grilled hotdogs and chips. The boys wanted the hotdogs split and grilled on our cast iron griddle. Splitting is so they can be stuffed with the onions and cheese oh, and chili sauce. So, these are overstuffed dogs and speaking of overstuffed dogs the Whippets look like they are putting on weight. Lunch was good even better than good and now it was off for a trail ride. Down through the upper and lower pastures and a left turn to the old apple orchard. Nope no bear insight today. Fargo, Peter Pan, and Sydney behaved but, Cinnamon was looking for something more than a quiet trail ride. It was a quick walk through the orchard then back to the farm. Cinnamon was all excited as we opened the gate to the jumps. We set up 3 jumps and it was so funny to watch Keith trying to hold Cinnamon back. Justin hollered out . . . . "Hey, Blond Boy trot!" well, Keith doesn't have curly hair but the way Justin shouted sounded a lot like our `nice lady'. It was mid-afternoon and the horses had provided fun and good exercise. We gave them a good grooming and turned all the horses out. I don't know why we groomed them because they just rolled in the dirt. Some people thought that was funny ... Kyle n the other Twin that is. Time for cold drinks and a short break. We all freshened up and I hit the living room couch. I didn't ask for company but, Kyle and Justin decided that I needed some hugs. Oh, now I get hugs and some little, cheap, kisses. Keith hit the end of the couch and got the same. ... ... Wait? ... ... I recall two 10.5-year-old boys not wanting that kind of affection and I reminded them. Ahhhh, ... I see it's a different story if we're alone, and now they're all smoochy n cuddly and wants tummy rubs. As things ended up Justin was all cuddled up with Keith, Kyle was all cuddled up with me and the dogs right in the middle and had the biggest share of the couch. I wasn't sleeping I don't nap in the middle of the day ... I was just resting my eyes. Looking at Keith, Justin, Kyle and those dogs well, they were off on some faraway island with a magic dragon bringing him strings and sealing wax and other fancy stuff. Ok, I didn't tell the truth and I was right along with them for few minutes anyway. The dream was wonderful and amazing and I had this little warm body all cuddled up next to me and then the damn phone rang. Well, Kyle and I were awake the other 4 creatures never moved. On the other end of the phone line was my biggest partner in crime Kori with great news.......... ..........Our fall schedules had been changed and with the exception of some special lectures all our classes will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays, however, those days will be full. It looks like we both have 2 classes in the morning and 2 in the afternoon. The very best thing is our last class both days ends at 4:30. Kori sounded excited. ... ... I was asking about Kyle and Justin's schedule but was interrupted by continuous poking from the brat wanting to talk to `other Dad' ... Ok, ok Kyle, here talk to `other Dad' and don't hang up I still have questions for him! Got it? Kyle got on the phone and judging by the one-sided conversation both he and Kori were excited. From my end, it was a rundown of our day and our trail ride then how the Whippets growled at me. ... ... here comes Justin.......... ..........and the story continues and I'm getting impatient and here comes Keith. I turned my head for just a second to look at him only to hear "bye `Dad' n bring that other teen back we miss him" ... click! ... ... "Sorry `Dad', it's Justin's fault not mine he's the one who hung up ... not me `Dad' I didn't hung up. You gots to member he's a little slow sometimes" ... saying that Kyle must have been looking for a fight but they both were laughing. The phone rang and it was Kori with "The Twins" schedule. The school is fine with Justin and Kyle not coming in for the Friday half day as long as they are present for all special presentations and State Standardized exams. I didn't think it would be that easy. So, we can head back to Ashfield on Thursdays. Just as I'm thinking how great the fall will be Kori had the not so good news. Ethan and Keith's schedule are good but, not as good as the rest of us because of science labs scheduled for Fridays. Then all the boys have to decide about is the swim team. Ethan talked to Kevin and no compromise. All the boys will have to make all Friday meets and if Keith wants to represent the high school diving team then he has to be at the pool at 3 pm on Fridays. No exception! Just as Kori was about to end our conversation, he said to have Keith call Ethan and that he and Ethan were taking an afternoon ride just to get away for an hour or so and that the house is looking good. Tomorrow they planned to get the yard finished and maybe they'd stay an extra day or two. I thought ... Tomorrow? ... perhaps staying a day or two? ... Hmmmm. I was thinking this was typical of Kori and there was a little more than what is being told. ... Oh well, I passed the message to Keith and told the rug-rats to go play or do anything but not in the house ... and take the dogs with them! I put the couch cushions back where they belonged and headed for the kitchen and a cold drink. I was standing at the widow watching Kyle, Justin and the dogs running around the yard with their endless energy when Keith walked in and I asked what Ethan had to say............ ............ "I won't be on the diving team this year" ... That was how Keith started and then he continued ...... "Jake, you know Kevin can be a real prick! ... You know he's pissed because Ethan and I took the summer off to go sailing as a family and he wanted us to stay at school for the summer." I let Keith vent and he did. ... ... "Kevin never thinks of any of us as having a life beyond either swim team or diving; and it's not about the University's national rank either, it's all about how he is viewed nationally as a coach." ...... I didn't interrupt but, a coach does look at both sides and how their team looks and how they look as a coach. Keith continued ....... "Jake, Ethan, and I will be on the swim team but for me, it's more important to be here at the farm on weekends and with Justin and Kyle." ...... Hmmmm, again Ethan and Keith put family and the rug-rats before themselves. I have to think that these two teens are the very best role models for our little tyrants. "Jake, Ethan said he and Kori are going to look at a boat this afternoon" ... What? ... "Yeah, Ethan said Kori is going to look at a boat and Ethan really doesn't want to go but is doing it for Kori." Now that took me by surprise. I was just about to call Kori and then decided to let this take its course. I was thinking what kind of boat? How big? Perhaps he was thinking of a small sailboat for just around Block Island Sound. Maybe it was a motorboat. Anyway, this has to be something Kori needs to work out, not me or Ethan or Keith. Right now, we are all dealing with the continued stress of that storm. And what could have been. I know for Justin and Kyle it's ongoing ... let it get dark and have thunder and lightning and those two become terrified. "We're hungry, are we going to Elmer's or not Dad?" ... Good timing Kyle and yes, we are. Go get washed and keep the water in the sink and not on the floor for once! ... ... Oh, what a smile those two brats have when they know we're going out for dinner. I let Keith drive we arrived at Elmer's in time for a little show https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LE6D9OMtWA&ab_channel=ElmersStore. I liked it, Keith thought it was interesting, that was his tactful way of saying `NOT' his thing, and the rug-rats well, I'm just happy they whispered their opinion in my ear and not out loud. You never know what might be on the menu at Elmer's. Food, of course, but entertainment? Just go and have fun. Tonight, we all had the Pizza Supreme and finished with Spumoni. It was just about 9 pm when Ethan called. Keith answered the phone then handed it to me. . . . . "Jake, we went to look at a 60-foot sailboat and it wasn't a positive experience." . . . . I just listened as Ethan continued . . . . "As Kori and I walked down the dock I noticed he was sweating and he wasn't saying anything. We were just about to step aboard when Kori turned and walked away." I waited a second and then Ethan continued . . . . "He was walking quickly and just as we arrived at the SUV he puked. Jake, I think he almost passed out. I drove back and he's sleeping. We're not working on the yard tomorrow he wants to go back to the farm." I knew Ethan was very upset and just thanked him for being with Kori. Right now, I have mixed feelings about why Kori wanted Ethan to go and why we didn't all go to New Haven. Maybe what I really want to know is why he didn't want me to be with him? ... Why does Kori always keep everything scrunched up inside? He's been like that since he was a kid. ... I feel sick to my stomach. The boys were watching Kangaroo Jack and I ran for a quick shower. I thought it might make me feel better. I guess I didn't get away without being noticed and 2 minutes later a certain teen was confronting me about the call. ... ... What he was confronting me about was `Why' I was keeping it all in. Keith already knew about Kori and the boat because Ethan had already texted him and told him what had happened, after all texting is what phones are for. I guess no secrets between Ethan and Keith. I was naked and the shower was running. Keith didn't give me any choice and wasn't about to leave so he just got in with me. When did he take Psych courses? I didn't know they were offered in high school. We stood under the warm shower set on `rain' and he just listened to me ramble on and on about Kori and how I have loved him from that first day he was hanging on the fence watching me work Finley. Keith was about to say something when 2 little naked munchkins barged in threw a big towel on the floor for the dogs and just pushed their way under the shower. I laughed and said, ... `Hey!' their answer was they heard Keith and I talking and they wanted a shower too. ... ... I'm very happy it was a talking shower Keith and I were having. ... ... Now the fun started. Keith and I were handed great big sea sponges and the bottle of coconut body wash and directed to start scrubbing head to toe. Justin looked at Keith and with a sly little smirk said ........ "n don't miss anything but don't use the sponge on it just your fingers, feels good that way. Kyle was looking at me and I heard ........ "n me too `Dad' no sponge down there just fingers n pull the skin back, Ok?" ... Umm, Keith is looking at me like "Should I do what he wants?" ... ... I think I surprised Keith when I said sure it's just a shower. Head to toe those rug-rats got scrubbed. Neither Keith nor I missed anything. When it came to the little `things' well, they didn't stay all that little. Justin and Kyle did try to take things a little to far when they wanted to wash Keith the same way and I did say NO! I know Kyle and Justin have seen Ethan and Keith jerk off and I think they may have done it to both teens but, I'll let that just be a thought. I do know that they have all been having some fun with Lars, Lukas, Marco, and Lorenzo and 99% sure with Antonio and Kris because they like to shower with Kris all the time when he's here. Shower finished it was snacks for all, that includes dogs, then Penny and Silence out and off to bed. Going to bed was interesting I was last and Keith never even asked but was on Kori's side of the bed when I entered the bedroom. No need to ask about the rug-rats and Silence and Penny they were in their usual spots. Center of the bed. I woke up in the middle of the night with a very horny teen next to me. I didn't want to wake Justin or Kyle and besides I was enjoying it. He already had a towel. It brought back memories. I just held my hand still as he rocked back n forth. First time was quick and a lot of it and very gooey too ... third time he took much longer, about 5 minutes, and not so much goo, just thinner. The bedroom had that distinct odor of bleach or ammonia. I was happy with one time. "Dad, smells like downstairs when Ethan n Keith sleep with Antonio and Kris" ... that was the wake-up call from Kyle. What Justin said was just as bad ...... "Yeah, Kyle n there's a wet spot here n smells like um you know when Kris shoots" ... Geeeze Hey, you two get ready for breakfast! I smell bacon and coffee. Breakfast was fun and the rug-rats said they think they're growing `down there' and Keith and I had to agree. We were just about finished when Keith got a text that said Kori and Ethan would be here for lunch. ... ... Lunch? ... ... OMG ... ... it's already nearly 11. Kids and dogs out, dishes done, strip the bed and remake it while Keith is putting laundry in the wash. Phone ringing. Peter telling me that he and Neil have to run for materials and that Lars and Lukas are on the way. Backdoor slammed and Lars n Lukas are already in the kitchen and is there anything to eat???? ... ... Geeeeze, Mary n Joseph don't Neil and Peter ever feed these two kids? French toast. Yes, they say 3 slices each please. ... Oh, n now they want the butter melted in the syrup. I looked out to see Kyle and Justin running toward the gate and here come Kori and Ethan. I hope they want French toast too. Thank goodness French toast will be just fine. Brunch was over and Justin, Kyle, Lars and Lukas were off to saddle horses and practice some low jumps. With the brats out of the way Kori and I had a chance to talk. I wasn't surprised to hear that he has called one of the professors at Yale to set up some `session time' as he called it. It was right then that Kori admitted he was having more difficulty with what had happened even knowing that he wasn't at fault for the sinking of Jabbering. It was the first time that I have heard Kori say the name of the boat. Jabbering. Realizing a problem admitting a problem is a start. I'm also having a problem caused by what had happened but my problem is that I can't find a way to help Kori. I was the one to fix his problems when he was a kid. I've been the one to have his back. I've been the one to make the hurt go away and this time I don't know how. We talked for about an hour and then it almost seemed that things got better. Tonight, we will start getting ready to pack what we need and head back to New Haven. I think it might be good to have something we need to work on during the week then have this farm to escape to for a 3-day weekend. The rest of the day was active with 4 brats running around and Kori, Ethan, Keith and I trying to think of everything we wanted to take back to New Haven. Our dinner was just simple burgers on the grill and a fun game of badminton while in and out of the Jacuzzi. Lars and Lukas headed home at 9 ... I have to smile at what came next. We showered Kyle and Justin and told them to go watch a movie while Kori and I had a little private time. I won't lie, Kori and I had a great in the shower and he was pretty excited. When we are both excited once is not enough. Tonight, twice was easy, and the third time was amazing. Morning was fantastic with Keith and Ethan sliding a gourmet breakfast on the table and then it was pack the SUV and Willys and off to New Haven...... Will the story be Continued?
