Cupid was in residence at Camp Phoenix and after all the recent trauma in Aiden's life everyone was happy that he had found someone to share his love. The first week they seldom left their room and we were all astonished either of them could walk to make it to dinner each night. It was obvious to everyone present these two young men were in love. Their minds just needed to accept what their bodies enjoyed. Aiden needed to talk with Billy Bob and see what he thought about Jamie staying on at Camp Phoenix.
After a long heartfelt chat with Billy Bob he was asked to share these feeling with his father Luke. If he only knew Luke wanted the best for his son. After losing his father and then his partner Aiden had incurred enough trauma in his life. He deserved to have a man to love regardless of him being an uneducated hillbilly. Hell, Billy Bob was the greatest gift Luke had ever received and he was more in love with him every day they had together. Luke assured Aiden that Jamie was welcome to stay at Camp Phoenix for as long as he wanted. And, if the time came when Aiden wanted to take their relationship to the next level his family would only be supportive of his decision.
As Jamie was reaching the two week mark staying at Camp Phoenix Aiden asked Connor if they could eat dinner in their room that night. Feeling something special was happening, Connor went into full celebration mode and served a Steak and Champagne dinner for the two lovers. After a wonderful meal and way too much Champagne Aiden took Jamie's hand and calmly said: "I don't want you to leave" and Jamie kissed him passionately saying he never wanted to leave. I'm an uneducated simple person but I know that I am in love with you. The bedroom door was still locked when Connor went to collect the dinner dishes. The sounds emanating from the room made it obviously clear the two lovers were consummating the decision made this evening.
A few hours later our two lovers limped out of their bedroom and announced to the family Jamie was staying on at Camp Phoenix indefinitely. Luke suggested they call Pa Vance in the morning and let him know what was happening. Luke added to his "To Do List" to get permanent Alpha Zulu credentials for Jamie and to have Doc chip him as soon as possible.
The family at Camp Phoenix was up to the wee hours of the morning celebrating the good news and Fort Connor exploded with happiness when General Meat announced to the men that Aiden had found a young man who hopefully would shortly be his partner in life. Jamie was embarrassed to call his father and announce he was staying with Aiden at Camp Phoenix indefinitely. His father congratulated him on his choice of a man in his life and only asked the two of them to visit regularly.
A few days later Luke called Aiden into his study for a father and son chat. Was Aiden serious about Jamie or was this just a fling? Aiden had the same feelings for Jamie as he did for Captain Bob. He never wanted to be away from him. He just didn't know if Jamie would marry him if he proposed. Luke simply told him love has no age or education requirements. If you love him let him know how you feel and fight every obstacle that is in your way. Your family is with you 100%. But, you need to tell Jamie about your kidnapping and rape. He is entitled to know everything about you if he is to really be your partner in life. It was a tearful night for the two lovers and Jamie held Aiden in his arms and never let him go until dawn and their need for sustenance became so evident.
Luke fast tracked Aiden's credentials and at the first opportunity Aiden and Jamie were aboard Worthington One with Luke and Billy Bob headed to Fort Connor. Doc was in on the conspiracy and drew enough blood to check for everything in the book. Jamie wasn't too pleased with the shot Doc gave him and Billy Bob only commented on what a wimp he had for a brother. Luke whispered into Aiden's ear at dinner Doc's initial blood work was fine and perhaps he and his lover might want to take a walk in the new meditation garden.
It truly was a beautiful setting and even more beautiful knowing it was a gift of the men of Fort Connor in memory of the two men who had given their lives in service of their country. As Aiden cried telling Jamie about Bob Manning and how much he had loved him he dropped to his knees and begged Aiden to be his partner in life for as long as they had together. Aiden and Jamie walked into the Chapel and asked the Chaplain if he would marry them as partner for life. Fort Connor was alive and elated that Aiden had again had love in his life. A short time later with a small family wedding and 200+ soldiers in attendance Luke, John, Meat and Steven stood in support of the two young men and watched them be joined as partners for eternity. Meat and Steven in their dress uniforms outshined Mama Bear in her diamonds and that wasn't even taking their jeweled sabers in consideration. Very few people could get them to wear these garish uniforms voluntarily and Aiden and Jamie knew how special they were in the lives of these two important men.
A Hawaiian honeymoon was culture shock for Jamie and he was totally out of place. He kept Aiden in the bedroom or skinny dipping in their private pool most of the time. Their security was discrete yet adequate to protect the two lovers. Jamie was happy when he was back at Camp Phoenix and he and Aiden could share their bedroom and the new family which loved him and his partner.
Luke had Worthington Security fast track a concealed weapons permit for Aiden and Jamie. It only took about a week and they were crack shots with both a Glock and a Berretta. They both accepted "body armor" wasn't an option when they left Camp Phoenix and the precautions taken being a member of the Worthington family were becoming all too obvious to this young addition. Jamie was in love with Aiden and he would do anything to make his partner happy. Aiden was still scared and paranoid when he and Jamie were out of Camp Phoenix. The thought of another sniper was always in the back of his mind. Only the love of Jamie when they finally were locked down for the night gave him relief from the panic attacks he had fearing for the safety of the man he loved.
Adding Yuuto to the band of imps was like adding a match to gasoline... there was going to be an explosion and SD always had a new prank to pull on someone at Fort Connor. Both Yuuto and SD were smart enough to know the Generals were off limits but Colonel Gregory and R.A. definitely were in the "sights" of our young pranksters.
With a ready availability of materials which they could "liberate" for their use and the fun of planning and making the "prank of the century"... SD and Yuuto made a stink bomb that would be classified as a war crime if used in battle. Our unsuspecting victims were enjoying an afternoon of passionate love when this ghastly odor attacked them in their quarters driving them naked out into public. As they stood naked with smoke billowing from their quarters the laugh of the imps made it obvious they had been pranked.
As they were given fresh BDUs from supply they ordered both Yuuto and SD be brought to the Colonel's office by Security. Hayao and Noah were asked to join R.A. in the meeting. As the guilt was so obvious by the demeanor of our two young imps they confessed their guilt and promised to try and control themselves in the future. R.A. was the first to say he felt they needed some assistance in modifying their behavior and enforcing their commitment to reform. He looked at S.D. and simply said: "Pants down and over my knee". S.D. accepted his fate and Yuuto looked at his parents and was simply told: "Parody sucks"! The screams of two young men emanated from the Colonel's office as behavior modification was physically provided to their tender asses. Hayao and R.A. never imagined how much their hands would hurt after only ten whacks on their sons bum. When they finished they knew the tears were genuine and told them they were confined to their rooms until further notice. You have much to reflect on at the moment.
The fathers laughed after their sons left for their bedrooms and were amazed they had the knowledge to pull off such a prank. We have two very intelligent sons and I'm certain this may be the first but not the last time we will have to face those talented minds. R.A. turned to Hayao and asked if his hand hurt as bad as R.A.'s. Damn, they didn't know who got punished for the prank, the fathers or the imps.
A few days later when the two imps were released from their confinement S.D. knocked at the office door of his father and asked shyly if they could talk. He was apologetic for the prank and he was sorry if it crossed the line. He hoped his father still loved him and wanted him in his life. The Colonel opened his arms and told S.D. he loved him regardless of how many pranks you play. Just remember "Actions have repercussions" and your tender bum is not a repercussion you want to experience often.
When Yuuto was finally allowed out of confinement he went to his fathers and begged forgiveness. You paid the price for your stupidity and no forgiveness is necessary. Just remember how tender it is sleeping on your stomach the next time you plan another prank. You crossed the line and paid the price for your stupidity. "Actions have repercussions" and those repercussions can result in a very tender bum. Now come here and give your dads a big hug and kiss. Yuuto was starting to believe he had a family even if he did a major screw up.
The time approached when our two fathers and Yuuto had to return to the orphanage for a final evaluation and determination as to granting them permanent custody. Yuuto was terrified of losing the men he loved. His fathers only told him to tell the truth and whatever happens we will always love you and you will always have a home with us. The psychologists were extremely concerned regarding the corporal punished Yuuto had received but he was the first to state he knew the rules and it was his fault he forced his fathers to use corporal punishment. The medical staff were astonished at the response to his near death experience and were very vocal saying in any other setting Yuuto would have died. Even with the conservative psychologist's negative review regarding the use of corporal punishment Yuuto was granted permanent placement and the adoption was final. He was their son forever!!!
Excitement ran wild at Fort Connor and Camp Phoenix. An ice cream and cake celebration was planned for the evening and the fathers paid the price with new sons up all night with a sick stomachs. Yes, the fathers were now officially members of the "Order of the Sleep Deprived"!
Yuuto Grandfathers were off base and on assignment for POTUS but they made certain to Video Conference with their Grandson and tell him how happy they were he was a permanent part of their family... now and forever!!! (With the proviso... pull a stink bomb stunt on us young man and you'll find our hands are much bigger than your fathers! With a big smile on their faces Yuuto knew his Grandfathers still loved him and always would.)
Apparently not everyone had gotten the word that all but one backer of the $1B USD bounty on the Leib children had been killed. The terrifying "ALERT ALERT INCOMMING MISSILE THIS IS NOT A DRILL echoed throughout the base. Hayao and Noah grabbed Yuuto and headed for the imps bunker. Hayao threw Noah and Yuuto inside and headed off to his station. Yuuto clutched Noah as he heard the overhead explosions and Noah assured him nothing could get at him while he was in the imps bunker. Between the Apache Helicopters and the Drones the boat launching the missiles was quickly located and blown out of the water. From the amount of missiles the drones used to destroy the boat the mini-gun on the Apache was overkill but there were no survivors. Colonel Gregory could live with no survivors just so none of his men were injured. This was SD and Yuuto first actual ALERT and both parents knew how terrifying it must be for their sons. SD threw his arms around his father's neck crying alligator tears and terrified of what just happened. Noah held Yuuto in his arms and walked him back to their quarters knowing Hayao would join them as soon as he was relieved from his duties.
Both parents assured their sons they were always safe. It would take a nuclear warhead to penetrate your bunker. There are 200+ men, land mines, machine guns, attack helicopters, and drones that have to be eliminated before they could even get close to your vault door and even if they could breech it they would have to face Alexander and I guarantee you he will die defending you. Wait till you get to be a practice dummy for him and you'll understand how great it is to have him protecting you. Just remember, anytime your com goes off with an ALERT you make fast tracks to the imps bunker.
The tears subsided and reality set in as their bodies collapsed from the shock of what had just happened. It is one thing to be told about an alert it is another to have rockets exploding over your head with someone trying to kill you.
Both parents allowed their sons to sleep in and skip flag raising and breakfast. They felt sleep was more important and gently awakened them mid-morning so they didn't sleep the day away. Among hugs and kisses the sons knew how much their fathers loved them and would protect them. There was now an unbreakable bond between fathers and their sons that would last forever.
R.A. was in a controlled panic mode when he heard of the attack on Fort Connor. His first impulse was to immediately call Colonel Gregory but he knew his partner would be super busy getting the base back to normal operations. R.A. cleared the work off his desk and left early for the weekend. He wanted to be with the man he loves especially when he was in harms way.
R.A. was shocked when he was greeted with a security detail and guns drawn at the ready as he walked down the ramp of the plane. "Relax guys, its only me and I guarantee no pranks this time." He still had his credentials verified and security dropped him off at the office of his partner, Colonel Gregory. "You are a day early!" as R.A. rushed into the arms of his lover, held him and kissed him passionately oblivious to anyone who might be watching. The Colonel told him to have a seat and he'd clear off his desk then we could have an early dinner in our quarters. R.A. could only think: "To hell with food, I want desert"! These two lovers would never tire of each other and would enjoy making love even into their senior years. There love was never ending and there was no doubt it would be eternal.
The men at Camp Phoenix were always concerned when an ALERT was sounded, not necessarily for themselves but for all their friends at Fort Connor. They knew their compound was well defended with every resource of the military and their panic room could not be breached before Airborne Rangers would be descending upon Camp Phoenix. They just made certain to keep plenty of doggie treats stocked in the panic room for Beauty and Max. The adults would rather go hungry than eat MREs for any period of time.
Whoever entered their panic room first best be a friend because they would be met with two snarling war dogs and every adult armed with a Glock plus either an assault shot gun or a machine gun. Not one of the Worthingtons would willingly be taken a prisoner.
Mama Bear was always concerned for the welfare of her family and being locked down in the Penthouse only exacerbated her fears. Luke finally had a security detail assigned she couldn't intimidate. She wasn't going anywhere till the ALERT was lifted. Mama Bear could threaten all she liked but no one would waiver from the directions given by Luke. Only the General could tell her she was wrong and to go into the panic room and be safe so she could live another day with him. He loved her and wouldn't let her stupid pride stand in the way of her being safe. (Damn, he knew how to knock the wind out of her sails!)
Colonel Gregory's father was in shock the first time an ALERT was called and a security detail appeared out of nowhere in addition to local and state police cars screaming down the street and cordoning off the area. Something both he and his neighbors hoped wouldn't happen often. It took a lot of cookies and coffee with his neighbors to share with them the revelations of who his family was and what had happened. Only time would tell if he would be forced to relocate. He was so happy to have a family he never knew existed. It just was a shock adjusting to the reality of being part of the Worthington Clan.
Back at Fort Connor, S.D. and Yuuto were handing stress the way most teenagers do in life with a good old fashion "jerk off" session. Luke wondered if sending him off to evaluate some special programs and projects a couple of days each week would satisfy his needs. They could be mostly day trips and he hoped Jamie would be agreeable or even accompany him. Aiden was terrified at the thought of losing Jamie to some attack or a sniper. He liked him safe and secure at Camp Phoenix. Luke tried to explain Jamie had been a free spirit running the hills of West Virginia all his life. Now he is locked with guards surrounding him. You will lose him if you don't give him some freedom. Reluctantly Aiden understood. Aiden made Luke promise Jamie would be well protected when they left Camp Phoenix.
Aiden brought up the subject with Jamie when they retired for the night. Luke wants me to check on some projects for him and would you like to get out of here and join me on the trips? The smile on Jamie's face answered the question and the love they shared that night left Aiden with one sore ass and no doubt he was still loved. Aiden turned to Jamie and made him promise never to try and ditch his security detail. I did once and I ended up being kidnapped and gang raped. I'd never want that happening to you.

His briefcase could be lethal if used incorrectly or in the wrong hands.
Luke kept the assignments simple day trips to non-complex projects. More fact finding than trouble shooting. Aiden and Jamie felt like part of the Worthington Team and that made them beam as they sat at the table with the family each night. Aiden didn't want Jamie getting too cocky or complacent. Aiden had already lost his father and a partner to attacks on his family and the military. He kept telling Jamie he had to be constantly vigilant and always alert. When the lead security vehicle in their trip from the airfield to the Worthington regional office blew up they quickly realized they were in for the fight of their life. OPS was quickly alerted and scrambled fighter jet to give them cover so they could safely retreat. State and Local police rushed to contain the attackers. Armed helicopters gave them cover back to the airfield and they had armed military planes escorting their jet back to the Worthington Executive Complex Airfield.
Our two young executives were still shaking as they returned to the security of Camp Phoenix that evening. Luke poured them a double moonshine and hoped it would knock them off their feet for the night. They reacted the same way any of us would if we saw people we knew get blown up in the car in front of us. The shock of the day was only now starting to be realized. Aiden turned to Jamie and asked if he would please take me to bed. The two shocked lovers walked hand in hand to their bedroom and locked the door. Connor kept food warm for them the rest of the night if by chance our young couple decided their stomach overruled their brains need for seclusion.
Aiden cried on Jamie's shoulder that night. He told him to go back to the hills of West Virginia where he was safe and no one was trying to kill him because of being a Worthington. I watched Bob die and I couldn't watch the same thing happen to you. You are better off without me in your life.
Jamie surprised Aiden when he informed him that he couldn't get rid of him that easy. When I said "for better or worse" I meant it. You are mine till "death do us part". Whether that be tomorrow or 50 years from now you are part of my life every day I am alive. Whatever you decided about working with Luke I'll support but I'll never leave you. Our young lovers were inseparable that night. The kissed and shared romance and intimacy but sex wasn't necessary to confirm the love they had for each other.
Luke was on the Video Com with Doc and the Chaplain wanting to know what to do and how to handle the latest disaster. Colonel Gregory had OPS add him to the conference and affirmed the two were welcome at Fort Connor until they reconciled what they wanted to do. It might provide them with a sense of security. It would also give Doc and the Chaplain an easier job in helping them through this new trauma. Luke would pass the offer onto them.
Aiden and Jamie took the Colonel up on his gracious offer and agreed to fly to Fort Connor with R.A. Thursday night. All the intelligence agencies and Worthington Intelligence had no indication of any security threat and they all went into high gear to figure out who or what was behind the threat on Aiden's life.
The Colonel met R.A., Aiden and Jamie when their plane landed on Thursday night. He got them settled into a VIP suite and then walked R.A. across the camp to their residence. POTUS had the Generals out of the country on a mission so their much needed experience and expertise in this area wasn't available. It was basically up to the Chaplain and Doc to figure out a solution to given Aiden and Jamie a reason to face tomorrow and have an enjoyable future.
The Colonel and R.A. had barely settled into comfortable chairs when the infamous ALERT, ALERT... resounded across the base. R.A. headed for lockdown with the S.D., Noah had Yuuto under his arm right beside R.A. at a full gallop and security had Aiden and Jamie in tow for lockdown. When the blast door shut securely everyone breathed a sigh of relief until the explosions started overhead. Then all of us were concerned for the ones we loved who were now in harms way. It was a life they chose but we still didn't want to lose them. As we considered unlocking the blast door and checking on our loved ones Ssgt Rod read our minds and stationed Alexander at the door with the command that no one would be allowed close to the keypad. Alexander wouldn't kill us but Doc would be putting in a few stitches to anyone who tried to get past him.
We all breathed easy when Colonel Gregory unlocked the blast door and advised us the danger had past and no one was injured. We could return to our quarters and everyone would be standing down from ALERT shortly.
This alert did little to help Aiden and Jaimie with the trauma of their recent attack and S.D. and Yuuto were still scared in the aftermath not completely understanding what was happening. When the Colonel returned to his quarters R.A. asked for a double scotch and collapsed into an overstuffed chair. He had enough excitement in his life for one week. "Take me to be and make love to me" was his simply request which was fulfilled to his wildest expectations.
Luke was in full CEO mode when he returned to the office. All of this started when he sent Aiden to the Regional Office. Auditors descended upon the Worthington Regional Office Aiden and Jamie were traveling to visit when the initial attack occurred. Accounting discrepancies were all too apparent and were in the 8 digits range. Heads rolled and they admitted they were the ones putting out the contract when notified of the review by Worthington Headquarters.
Luke made certain they had long prison sentences and Mama Bear made certain they had "roomies" who were well hung known sexual predators. No one tries to harm a member of her family without dire consequences. Aiden and Jamie were relieved but it was now apparent there was no such thing as a safe job when you are a Worthington. The Chaplain at least had a starting point to help our young lovers back onto the road of mental health and not living a life of fear. Colonel Gregory and R.A. breathed easier knowing the new threat had been eliminated. If only they foresaw the storm clouds on the horizon.
Aiden and Jamie had progressed quickly with both the Chaplain and Doc's hard love therapy. (Yeah, even the two of them requested Alexander after some of the counseling sessions.) It was time for them to return to Camp Phoenix when R.A. returned to civilization on Monday morning. Luke was happy to see his son smile and Jamie walking down the ramp holding the hand of his son. Yes, the two were in love and Luke couldn't be happier. R.A. walked up to the two lovers and suggested: "Get a room"! To which Luke agreed. There was plenty of time to decide if they wanted to continue working with him and his special projects.
Connor was in full gourmet mode when everyone returned to Camp Phoenix that evening. After a wonderful meal and well lubricated with 20 year old Scotch Aiden and Jamie retired to their room and collapsed into an unconscious state. Aiden rose before sunrise and smiled when he saw the tent in the sheet over Jamie. Aiden never hesitated as he crawled under the covers and found he hadn't lost his talent at deep throating his lover. Jamie woke with a shock as his balls blasted off causing Aiden to chock. R.A. was facing meltdown dealing with so many depressing cases of abused and abandoned children. Only his weekends with the Colonel made it possible for him to survive his work. He finally went to Luke confessing the problem and admitting he needed professional help before he ate his Glock. Luke gave him a choice, a renowned professional therapist or the hard ass love of Doc and the Chaplain. At least with the Doc and the Chaplain if it got too "hard ass" he'd always have Alexander and cuddle time to commiserate. R.A. cleaned off his desk and took a two week leave as he headed to Fort Connor.
Luke made the Colonel, Doc and the Chaplain aware of the problem and knew it was in the early stages of meltdown and R.A. wasn't a risk to himself at the moment. He needed love and counseling and between the three of you I'm certain we'll have the old R.A. back ready to face his daily challenges.
S.D. was never told of his fathers problem, he loved him unconditionally and it showed. Colonel Gregory would hold R.A. in his arms as he would cry telling him about all the horror stories of children whose files crossed his desk. The Colonel told him "Look at the difference your fathers have made. You have power in the name of Worthington and money behind it. You can make a difference, I have faith in you." Those simple words were more effective than Doc or the Chaplain. Yes, R.A. could make a difference and it was his new goal in life.
The entire Worthington family was behind him and from that point on any person running for public office which they supported would be required to support a "Child's Right Agenda". It wasn't something that happened overnight but it became law in all 50 states before R.A. retired as head of the Worthington Foundation. R.A. left a legacy which was a point of pride for every member of the Worthington Clan.
The Generals were never prouder of their son than when he told them of his goal in life. The offered their assistance whenever needed in any way. "Make these six stars work for you." "They are meaningless if they just sit on our shoulders." Mama Bear never foresaw how far the Alpha Zulu program would go and grow when she started it to protect Luke and John. She offered to use her political connections to help R.A. whenever needed not to mention her "fangs" and "claws" to overcome some obstacles. Even in her senior years she was a power to be reckoned with. Presidents and Congressmen agreed to support "Child's Right Legislation" knowing without her support they would never be elected to any public office.
R.A.'s mental health returned with a blast of energy and a new goal in his life that would exist till the day he died. R.A. had one last major project which required the assistance of Mama Bear, Luke and John... It was time Meat and Steven received the recognition and thanks of a grateful nation for all the work no one ever heard about.
A supportive Army chain of command knowing the good public relations it would bring, the Secretary of Defense who was well aware of the sacrifices these two men had made for their country and the President of the United States knowing why his predecessor had promoted these two men to the highest rank in the military... Congress had no choice but to agree and award these two men this high honor. Every living President made it known these men were worthy of such a high award. Anyone who spoke out against them was committing political suicide. R.A. was given the honor of telling his fathers they were being awarded the "Medal of Honor" and that it would be presented by the President on July 4th. Our Generals both felt inadequate and would only accept it in honor of the men of Alpha Zulu and the years of dedication and sacrifice they have given this country. In the following years every major country in the world would award these two men with high military honors for their work in protecting children. R.A. was the instigator of bringing the plight of children to the world stage and Mama Bear knew she had selected the right person to continue her legacy of the Worthington name. The shock of R.A. action was culminated when Russia awarded our Generals the "Hero of the Russian Federation", their highest military award. This action started the peace talks which would avert World War III and brought the world back from nuclear Armageddon.
Colonel Gregory was astonished at the power his partner held in his hands through the Worthington Foundation. The good he was doing for children and the peace he was bringing to the world. But first and foremost was the undying love he had for this young man and a love he would cherish until the end of time. He knew he had to share R.A. with so many people and organizations and he insisted R.A. have a security detail of men chosen by him. Our H.R. Colonels weren't happy when they were asked to add a new War Dog and handler exclusively for R.A. security detail.
The Generals were now protected by their high public visibility and the fact no country would let them die on their soil. R.A. was flying under the radar and needed the security the Colonel demanded he use. "NO" was not an acceptable response and after a few hours of getting his ass fucked into submission he relented and agreed with the man he loved.
Every person including Presidents snapped to attention and initiated a salute to a "Medal of Honor" recipient. R.A. always held his fathers in his highest respect and now the nation and the world would know of two great men and of the deeds and sacrifices they have made over the years.
The entire Alpha Zulu team was in full dress uniforms and passed in review when our Generals returned to Fort Connor. What started as a classified secure base for two young men turned into a world changing event in history that impacted so many young lives and the future of the nations of the world. Not since Eleanor Roosevelt has anyone had such high public support and ratings. "Doug" and "Steven" were the most popular baby names for boys for a decade. The Generals continued as "Ambassadors at Large" for incoming Presidents both Republican and Democrat knowing losing the support they had with the American Public would be political suicide. Meat and Steven were never political in their comments or actions. If they caused a controversy it was to benefit children. It was a policy no one in politics wanted to challenge and expect to survive.
Colonel Gregory had become the face of the current Alpha Zulu program and fought every attempt to politicize S.D. and Yuuto as part of the Generals family. The Colonel didn't care if it cost him a promotion or any award... He was first and foremost a partner to R.A. and a family to the two precious imps he loved.
Everyone in the Military and in Washington politics knew Colonel Gregory could walk away taking his family with him and become part of the Worthington Military Industrial Complex. He was of more value to them as head of the Alpha Zulu program and everyone accepted it. R.A. respected his partner for his abilities to walk through the halls of congress and the pentagon but he never tired of being held tight in his arms and having his ass destroyed every time they were together.
The Alpha Zulu program remained in force for years protecting endangered children with few military attacks upon the base. Security was always tight and the men always observant. The men were dedicated to protect the children with every fiber of their being. Their leader Colonel Gregory lead from the front and would never ask a soldier to do more than he would do himself. Every officer could transfer out to obtain more rank and the prestige of a more esteemed position but they elected to stay at Fort Connor. Nothing in life could provide them with more satisfaction.
S.D. and Yuuto spent many a day cleaning garbage pails for pulling pranks on the men of Fort Connor and they knew they deserved every day of garbage pail duty. They never crossed the line again and required physical behavior modification over the knee of their fathers. They were pranksters and some pranks were expected of them. The only ones on base not subject to their potential pranks were the Generals and Alexander. Alexander had no sense of humor and once you've been a practice dummy for a War Dog... well, once is enough of a learning experience.
Hayao and Noah were astonished when Yuuto tests scores came back showing an IQ rating of a genius. The easy assignments of school work were a thing of the past and his curriculum was increased and challenged the aptitude of this future leader of industry. S.D. was great at business as his father and would inherit the role of the Administrator of the Worthington Foundation when R.A. finally retired. Harvard and M.I.T. had two more "Worthingtons" to add to its alumni guaranteeing access to Worthington grants and funding for another generation.
Taylor and Tyler true to the reputation of their flaming red hair were dedicated to carry on the pranks of the imps that preceded them. Even the nights they spent sleeping on their stomachs with their asses glowing red they were thinking of the next prank to pull to keep everyone on their toes at Fort Connor. They had a reputation to uphold and it was a matter of pride to them in maintaining it.
Colonel Gregory was in shock when OPS notified him of an unscheduled plane requesting permission to land and it was squawking "Army One". The Colonel joined the security detail as they greeted the plane and he knew something was afoot when the Secretary of the Army, Luke, John and R.A. walk out of the plane with him. After verifying credentials the Secretary asked to be taken to the Colonel's secure conference room.
With the room locked down to a secure mode the Secretary explained there was a push in Congress, Pentagon and the White House to promote you. And the options go the complete spread of the spectrum. If you accept the promotion to a four star general you could in theory remain in command of Fort Connor. If you accept a five star or six star promotion you would have to step down from the day to day operation of Fort Connor. Everyone in Washington has their idea of what is best for you. I'd like your opinion of what you want in your future.
The Colonel had faced firefights, mortar attacks, rocket attacks, missile attacks and never gave a second thought on what the proper response should be. Now he was facing a decision that would impact his career and the life of his partner and he didn't have an answer.
As the Secretary saw his hesitation and offered a suggestion. Accept the promotion to the rank of a four star General of the Army and stay in the day to day command of Fort Connor. The Pentagon has plans prepared for a national funeral and burial at Arlington when General Meat or General Goodman dies. I can almost guarantee you will be promoted to the rank of Six Stars after the Generals are laid to rest at Arlington and a respectful period of mourning. We both know they aren't getting any younger.
Luke, John and R.A. all thought this was a wise choice of action and urged Colonel Gregory to agree with the Secretary of the Army. The Secretary of Defense would contact him as to the meetings with congress and the White House which appear to be merely formalities.
Now if you'll be gracious enough to share one of those fantastic meals I hear so much about I'd love to announce to your men your pending promotion. Colonel Gregory turned to Luke, John and R.A. and asked them to give the Secretary a tour of Fort Connor. He wanted to video conference with the Generals, after all they were his friends and he didn't want them to think he was doing this behind their back. Everyone understood and adjourned for a tour of this base which was quickly becoming a part of history.
Colonel Gregory brought up Meat and Steven on a video conference and asked if they had a moment to chat with him. "Of course we do" came the reply but tell us are you taking a four star or six star promotion. "Damn Grapevine around here" was the Colonels reply. You know they have plans written for a national funeral for the two of you. Meat quipped: "I'll be dead so it doesn't bother me". Colonel Gregory asked how they felt if he accepted the promotion to a four star general and both Meat and Steven were elated for him. They also added you know that also probably means six stars when we are gone. "Yeah, I've already been warned about that possibility" was the Colonel's reply.
You two be safe and fly back soon. You are always missed. Now I have to go to lunch and listen to the babble of them telling the men about my pending promotion. I love you two!
The men of Fort Connor went ballistic when the news of the Colonels pending promotion was announced. The Secretary of the Army flew out back to Washington after lunch to share the results of his meeting with all parties involved. He assured everyone Colonel Gregory would look favorably upon being nominated for six stars once his friends had passed and after a reasonable period of mourning.
John, Luke and R.A. enjoyed the fellowship of the men and the fact men of all ranks were treated equally. The evening meal was a feast and the mess staff outdid themselves with the decorated cake and multiple selections of ice cream flavors. (R.A. was jealous there were so many more flavors of ice cream than when he was an imp.) Worthington One flew in the next morning to return Luke and John to the outside world. R.A. stayed on with his Colonel who he knew was wondering if he made the right decision and if he could fill the big shoes of Meat and Steven when the day arrived. R.A. continuously assured him no man living was more qualified to replace Meat and Steven when it is time. Meat and Steven will be the first to confirm you are the best choice for the job.
Colonel Gregory turned to R.A. and asked: "Will you always be at my side"? R.A. response was firm and without hesitation: "ALWAYS"!
