Chapter 34 - Code Blue

Morning came and the boys knew the routine. Andrew was shown where he could shower while they gave Timmy a sponge bath. Andrew asked if he could do it and the nurses just smiled and said that he could. He hurried and got his own shower and returned to caring for his little brother.

They brought him a tray of warm water, some washcloths and explained what to do. Timmy took off his gown since there was a new one waiting for him after his bath. Andrew knew to be careful around the port and injuries. He started at Timmy's neck and face, worked his way down the torso, and then had Timmy lean forward so he could get his back.

Andrew noticed that the bruises were getting smaller and looking better.

When he was done with Timmy's back, he started at the feet and worked his way up as far as possible.

"Hey, why did you stop?"

"I went as far as possible. Don't worry."

Andrew wanted to save the boy bits for last, so he had Timmy roll onto his stomach. He cleaned Timmy's bubble butt and even got into the crack. He circled Timmy's butthole, and it made Timmy squirm and push back a little. Andrew could hear Timmy giggle.

Andrew had him roll back over.

"Now, it's time to take care of possible." He giggled and carefully took Timmy's tiny balls and lifted them up so he could clean around them. He then cleaned the balls and started on the shaft. Timmy was hard from the moment Andrew touched his balls. He got Timmy all cleaned up and leaned down and kissed Timmy's little dick.

"That tickles."

"Did you like that?"

"Yeah, it's not painful like when my foster brother did it. I liked it when you did it."

"I'm glad you liked it. It can be fun, if you want it, and if it's someone you care about."

"You can do that anytime, brother."

Andrew quickly looked to make sure they were alone, and then went down and sucked Timmy all the way in, let him out, and then kissed the tip. "There, one for good luck."

Timmy was in heaven. Andrew helped him with the new gown.

Just then, someone came into the room with a big box. It was addressed to Timmy from Joey. He opened it up to find all kinds of goodies, but also some special things from Joey's heart. There was a handwritten note and instructions on how to use the iPad that was in the box. The note said, "I have plenty of stuff. I know you don't, so here is my iPad. We can chat on it and talk. I hope we can stay friends. Your pal, Joey."

Timmy quickly got the iPad turned on and was playing games.

"That's really cool. I'm glad it has some games on it for you, and it's so cool that Joey can chat with you now!"

"Yeah, I'm excited. I know a superstar!"

"Yep, my little brother is moving up in the world. See? Things are getting better."

Andrew made a real funny face. The TV was on but muted. There was a scene from the fire again. That thing was still burning. Andrew got sick to his stomach.

It was time for the dialysis treatment, so they took Timmy alone since Andrew wasn't feeling well. Besides, Timmy was in his own world, playing games and trying to figure out how to message Joey.

Andrew thought he was going to vomit, but decided to just curl up and try to nap. That didn't work. He became restless. Sleeping in a hospital is hard enough, but during the day the place is much noisier.

Andrew wandered out to the nurses' station, and they mentioned that he might enjoy the game room. Andrew went down to the brightly colored room full of kids that were there for one treatment or another. The toys were all for younger kids, but there was a boy that reminded him of Kerry, from when they were together. He went over and got on his knees.

"Hi, I'm Andrew. What's your name?"

"I'm Martin. I'm here cuz I gots cancer. They're gonna start treatments on me tomorrow. They said I'm gonna loose my hair."

"Oh, Martin, I'm sorry." Andrew ran his hair through Martin's beautiful blond hair.

"How old are you, Martin?"

"I'm eight."

"You remind me of my best friend when he was eight. I hope your treatments go well."

"Me too. Wanna play trains?"

"I'd love to Martin, but I don't feel good. I'd better go lie down."

"OK, See ya!"

Andrew got up and went back to Timmy's room. He got into the bed and curled up.

As Andrew lay there, he got concerned. Mr. Thomas didn't come. Grandma didn't come. Andrew started feeling sick to his stomach.

He had no idea why. Here he was, caring for the most beautiful little angel. A boy that could pass for his little brother. A boy that loved him. When he was holding Timmy, he felt warm and snuggly. Maybe since Timmy's off to treatment, that's what's wrong. Andrew got a prickly feeling up his spine and wanted to vomit.

Over in the dialysis center, Timmy was playing on the iPad when a message came in. It was from Joey. "Hi buddy, just checking to see if you got the iPad and package. I hope you're doing OK."

"I'm waiting for my dialysis. They are busy today."

"Does it hurt?"

"Not really. It did the first time when they put the needles in, but the needles are still there. They hurt a little."

"You said you met Andrew at the shelter?"

"Yeah, he and his dad go there to help. His granddad runs the place. It's named after Andrew's dad's older brother who went missing."

"What's the name of it?"

"The Lincoln Thomas Foundation. They help a lot of kids. When I ran away, they took me there while they found a home for me."

Timmy didn't know that he couldn't stay at the foundation for long, and that the real reason was to figure out why he ran, but that didn't matter now; he was getting the help he needed.

"Is he nice?"

"Yeah, he is nice. He cuddles me through the night. It feels so good and warm."

"That's good. Do you think he will be your brother?"

"Nah, they said that his dad doesn't make enough money. Something about they have to have some money even though the state pays to help the foster kids. It's something about them wanting the foster kids to be permanent. I wish there was a way for it to work out."

"Yeah, we were all lucky to find our dad. He's so amazing and nice. Besides, we all love McDonald's, and when we go to his store, we get treated special."

"McDonald's sounds good. They bring me chicken pieces and eggs because of the dialysis. Its OK, but very plain. I would love to be able to have a hamburger with ketchup and mustard and cheese."

"You know I used to go to dad's McDonald's to get a dollar hamburger when I was hungry. That's how dad met me, I'll tell you that story some other time."

"I wish you could meet Andrew. He's the coolest brother. I wish I could live with him."

"I hope so too." Joey was wondering what he could do to help.

"Maybe we will meet sometime. If I ever have a concert near you, I'll make sure you get to come and we will visit."

"That would be super! Thank you again for all the stuff, I guess it's all I have since I don't have a home, clothes or anything. I even lost my underwear somewhere."

"You what? Nevermind. Dad's calling me. I have to go, but we will chat more later."

"Bye!"

"Hugs."

Back in Timmy's room, the nurse came in to let Andrew know that Timmy was delayed due to some backup in the dialysis center. Andrew was as white as a ghost. He was sweating and sort of shaking. She looked at Andrew and asked him if she could check his vitals. Andrew shrugged.

She put a blood pressure cuff on him and took some notes, took his temperature, and listened to his heart. She told him to drink some juice and that she would be right back.

"Andrew, this is Dr. Marsh. I want him to take a look at you."

"Son, how are you feeling? The nurse here said you're not feeling well. Let me take your vitals."

"But she just took them."

"I know, but you know us doctors, we want to put the cold stethoscope on you." The doctor was expecting a giggle or something, but there was no response. Andrew really was not feeling well.

"Your blood pressure is down. I know being at a hospital can cause you to anxiety. What's going on?"

"I don't feel good. I feel like I'm going to vomit. My back feels all, I don't know, tingly. Like when my mom used to get mad at me. I called it butt clench scared. Something is wrong. I just know it."

"Your temperature is normal. Have you eaten today?"

"No sir, I skipped breakfast and now I don't know if I can eat."

"Please try. Let the nurse know if there is anything you need. It's probably just a lack of food. Being here can be stressful, even if you're not a patient." He rubbed Andrew's back.

They were wheeling Timmy into the room. He noticed the doctor and listened to him give him instructions. "Now Timmy, take care of your brother here, he needs to be ready for tomorrow's space mission. Something is bothering him. You two eat your lunch."

The doctor left. Andrew tried to eat some dinosaurs, and after slowly nibbling on two, he puked all over the floor. He began crying. He felt bad. He needed to be strong for Timmy, but had no idea why he was sick. He pushed the call button and the nurse came in and called someone to help clean up the room and find a gown for Andrew since he got vomit on his shirt and shorts.

They got him into the gown, and he got back into bed with Timmy after sipping on some water.

Timmy was frightened. His rock, his brother, was sick, and there was nothing he could do. He was sore and sick himself.

He was being the little spoon and he pulled Andrew's arms around him. Andrew was starting to fall asleep, which was probably a good thing. Timmy placed Andrew's hand on his dick since both he and Andrew seemed to like that. He quickly hardened. In his sleep, Andrew started playing with Timmy's wood, and Timmy was enjoying every minute of it. He realized he was safe. Timmy got comfort in the gentle stroking from Andrew and the warm arms around him.

When dinner time came, Andrew nibbled at a bit of it. Timmy ate his and finished what Andrew hadn't eaten since lunch was interrupted by Andrew's vomit. After dinner, they moved back to spooning.

The night nurses checked on both boys every hour. Tonight, though, it was Timmy who didn't get much sleep. Andrew was sound asleep until he screamed out, startling the nurses who were four rooms away. They came running in, expecting something to be wrong with Timmy, and found Andrew just sobbing in his sleep. Timmy looked petrified. He didn't know what was going on. He kept repeating, "No, no, no, no."

One of the nurses lifted Timmy out of the bed and held him, calming him down. Timmy kept repeating, "No."

The nurse tried to calm Timmy down. "He probably had a night terror."

Another nurse was trying to wake Andrew. Andrew wasn't responding. She hugged him; nothing. She talked to him; nothing. She tried to stand him up; nothing. Timmy stopped saying "No" and jumped up as the nurse was sitting Andrew down in a chair, and Timmy hugged Andrew and kissed him on the lips. Andrew woke up. "Ethan?" he shouted as he started to wake up.

"No, it's me, Timmy. You were having a nightmare."

"Ethan, where's Ethan?"

"Honey, remember he's at work. Let me go call the number he gave us to see if I can get him to talk to you."

"Something is wrong, I know it!"

"Shhh, honey, it's going to be OK. It was just a nightmare."

Timmy was holding on to his brother the entire time, but not being noticed.

The nurse ran out of the room to call the station to see if Ethan could talk Andrew down.

"Andrew, it's OK, I'm here." Timmy sweetly said. "You woke up when I kissed you, so I must be your prince charming."

"Oh, Timmy, I'm sorry you saw that. I'm, I, something is wrong, I'm sorry Timmy."

He looked up at the clock in the room. 3:45. "Is it morning or afternoon?"

He looked out the window. It was dark.

"It's early morning, son. Here's some water. Take a sip. Can we get you some juice or something?"

As the nurse was approaching the desk to look up Ethan's information, Sarah, Mr. Thomas, and Grandma were all approaching. They all looked as if they had been crying. Why were they there at this ungodly hour of the morning. The nurse didn't know them. "Excuse me, but who are you?"

"We're Andrew's family. We need to see him. There's been an accident."

"I'm sorry, but visiting hours..." She was cut off by Mr. Thomas.

"Fuck visiting hours, we're here to see him NOW!"

The nurse stepped back. She didn't know if she should call security, or follow, or what.

"What room?" Mr. Thomas barked.

"Its room 10. Just down there where the lights are on. But, please, the boy just had a nightmare and they're trying to calm him down."

Sarah stopped. "Who had a nightmare?"

"Andrew." The nurse responded.

"My God, I knew they were close, but how, how did he know?" Grandma hugged Sarah as they walked to room 10.

As they entered the room, Andrew looked up and started screaming, wailing, yelling, "No, No, please, tell me he's OK."

Andrew's world was spinning as he fell to the floor with his family around him. Even Timmy joined them all holding Andrew. Timmy didn't know what was going on, but knew Andrew needed everyone.

The entire floor was awakened by Andrew's final "Nooo" before he slipped into unconsciousness. His body shut down.

Over the loudspeaker, you could hear the announcement. "Code Blue, Code Blue, 4th floor, Room 10, 4th floor, Room 10." It repeated over and over until a doctor and several nurses rushed the room with a crash cart.

Shortly after the doctors arrived, the Grizzly Valley Fire Chief came in wearing his dress whites.
