Chapter 4 - Death in the woods

Trigger Warning

There is some gun violence in this chapter. No boys are hurt. Also, this is fiction, so nobody was really hurt.

Andrew

Feeling Ethan sob while he holds me brings back memories of when I used to sob while holding him. His chest heaves, and he inhales deeply and exhales. His body shakes.

You probably know that Ethan saved me from being on the streets. If you read my story, Andrew's Misplaced Trust, here on Nifty, you know that when Ethan took me in, I thought I would just trade sex for a place to stay and a warm meal, but it turned out Ethan never wanted me for sex. I spent many hours sobbing on his shoulders and in his arms.

Ethan

My father is the reason I became a firefighter, and Andrew is the reason I switched over to search and rescue. I am the rescuer, and in that respect, my father and I share that calling in life. Thankfully, Andrew got my dad and me to see eye to eye. I mean, we worked together and got along, but Andrew was the one to see that I resented him a bit. He brought us together.

Now we all share the work of the foundation to help homeless kids.

I stop sobbing and wipe my face, regain my composure, but only for a moment, and continue to tell Andrew what I know.

"I know you are wondering why I brought the boys here, but there's more to the story, way more, and it's really terrible."

"Ethan, please tell me what happened."

"The boy's parents are all gone."

"I don't understand, what do you mean they are all gone?"

I shake as I hold Andrew's wrists and pull him down to sit on the bench facing me. I lose it again and place my head on his shoulder. I can't control my sobbing this time, and Andrew just holds me until I am able to repeat, "They're gone."

"What?! How are they gone? What do you mean?"

If you wish to skip the gun violence, skip Charlie's section and continue as we get Andrew's POV

Ranger Charlie

Earlier today, before the boys were found

The command post has been quiet all morning. Mr. Hawkins has been very apprehensive, and his story changes every time we talk to him.

Thank God, the boy's mom and the other boy's parents just drove up. Maybe they can get the real story out of the dad.

"Hi, I'm Ranger Charlie Daniels."

"We're Grayson's parents, the Fosters, and this is Max's mom."

"I wish we were meeting in better circumstances, but we may have a break. Our team thinks they have spotted the boys."

"Oh, that's great news! Did you hear that, honey? They may have found the boys." Mrs. Hawkins calls out to her husband, who is still wandering around and acting strange.

Mr. Hawkins walks over to his wife, who was talking to Mrs. Foster. He grabs her by the arm and pulls her away.

Grayson's dad is talking to one of the search team members when he sees this and runs to his wife to find out what happened. Suddenly, Max's parents start shouting at each other, and things start to escalate.

Max's dad starts to charge Grayson's parents. He is wearing a light windbreaker and has one hand under the jacket behind his back. As he approaches, he screams out, "You fag loving hippies." He stumbles a bit but catches himself before he falls to the ground. He isn't making much sense. "How dare you recruit my son!" He trips again because of his rage and falls to the ground. On his way to the ground, he continues his tirade, "You raised a faggot son and corrupted my boy! They are both lost and probably dead because of you. Burn in hell!" He appears to be holding a pistol in his hand. He aims up from the ground and fires two shots. They hit Grayson's parents. The parents crumble to the ground and were bleeding badly. Mr. Foster's head is bleeding, and his wife is laying on top of him with blood coming out of her back.
The rescue team all took cover. Ranger Charlie draws his weapon while crouching behind the fender of one of the rescue trucks. The others were back behind one of the medical trucks, frantically pulling out supplies so they could go help the parents when Charlie got things under control.

"Mr. Hawkins, please put the gun down. We don't need to make this any worse."

Mrs. Hawkins tries to help. "Honey, they didn't do this! They're just boys! They're too young to know if they are gay or not. Did they do something?"

"I caught that fag boy, Grayson, sucking on Max's dick!"

"Honey, they are just experimenting. I'm sure it's not a big deal."

"Experimenting my ass, those fuckers sent their boy to convert our son."

Max's mom rushes behind her husband, who is now trying to stand up. He flings his free hand back and hits her. She stumbles back a step and then lunges forward, trying to grab the gun from her husband, but somehow she bumps his finger into the trigger, and a bullet rips right through her head.

Realizing what he has done and that Charlie has drawn his weapon on him, Max's dad takes aim at one of the rangers, and the ranger takes cover as a bullet grazes off the tree he is hiding behind. The ranger returns fire and hits Mr. Hawkins, incapacitating him.

The medics rush out to help Grayson's parents. They can clearly see that Max's mom is gone, and Max's dad was not a priority for them. They start working on Grayson's mom first, but she has no pulse. They pack her wounds and begin CPR. Another medic checks on Grayson's dad, but he has no pulse, and there is no way he would survive that type of wound.

The medic calls out "We now have two lost orphan boys. Let's get them found; four dead is enough."

I decide we need to set up a different place for them to return to. We can't have the kids come see this mess."

Andrew

For those of you who skipped ahead, all four parents are no longer alive.

As Ethan recounts what Charlie told him about the parents, I am just stunned. What can I say? I am at a loss for words, and that is not like me. At this point, Ethan has completely lost it and is sobbing uncontrollably.

As I am consoling him, I have one big question. "Ethan? Why aren't the boys upset? This doesn't make sense?"

Ethan lets out a few more sobs and wipes his face with the towel.

"By the time we got out of the canyon, the command post had been moved away from the crime scene so that it could be processed. When we told them we had the boys, we were told they were coming to us. When we got to the road, the medics looked over the boys, and investigators asked them what their story was. They told the boys that they knew they had run away and that Max's father had explained why, but that didn't really matter and nobody there would judge them or care."

"They didn't tell you what happened?"

"No, not in front of the boys. Max was worried about having to see his dad. He told us that he didn't want to go back home now out of fear that his dad was going to beat him or worse. Max showed us his bruised ribs, arms, and stomach. Grayson was next to Max, who was being attended to by another medic, and they were cleaning his wounds and scrapes. Grayson was also concerned about going home, but not because of his parents, he was concerned for Max's safety."

"So everyone was worried about Max's dad?"

"Yes. That's when Charlie, told them that the parents were being taken away from the command post and that for the next few days they would be taken care of while things were worked out. He explained that they were working with CPS to determine if the boys would be safe at home since Max was beaten, and Grayson would stay with Max until things got figured out."

"I guess that's one way of putting it, but didn't you want to know what was going on? I'm sure this didn't make sense to you."

"I got the side eye from Charlie, so I knew not to ask questions. Robert and Eric joined the boys as we were getting ready to load up and get a ride out."

"They seem to get along."

"Yeah, they hit it off right away, and the ride here got them to open up, especially when they saw Robert and Eric showing a bit of affection for each other. That opened up some interesting conversations."

"Oh, I'm sure. You'll have to tell me later, but why are they here?"

"Charlie pulled me aside and we went off for a short walk and found a fallen log to sit on for a chat, and I asked Charlie what was going on."

"The boys couldn't overhear you, right?"

"No, they were too far away, and Charlie was doing his famous whisper talk that you can barely hear anyway. This is when he told me what happened and that he talked to Sarah, and she suggested that we take the boys for a few days. It would be under the foundation, but there are bound to be complications and emotions that we may not be ready for. Sarah is already working with the CPS folks. It's been great having her at the foundation now, she takes a lot of the load off of them."

"I can see you didn't push back. I'm happy we have them and hope we can get them through this."

"I've already invested days trying to find these boys and I wasn't going to make things worse. Of course, I agreed. I knew I didn't need to ask you."

Ethan hugged and kissed me and just held me for a bit.

Ethan

So, I kind of lied to Andrew when I said this was temporary and under the foundation. Sarah, CPS, and Charlie know this is going to be a mess and feel that the boys need to have consistency to get through this. Until we know more about their extended families, a judge granted Andrew and me guardianship. This will keep them out of the CPS machine, while letting us get them the help they need.

How am I going to tell Andrew? I already know he will be happy to do it, the kid has a huge heart. Yes, I still call him the kid since he was a kid when we met. He will always be that little boy that I rescued, even though I rely on him more than he relies on me. Don't tell him that.

"Andrew, I need to clarify something. We aren't really the boy's foster parents; they are not under the foundation. Because of the situation, Sarah and the judge thought it would be best if we are the boy's guardians. We need to help them through therapy as they work this out. My biggest concern is, how do we keep Max and Grayson from hating each other over what Max's father did?"

"That is going to be tricky, but I'm sure if they love each other and both hate his dad, we can work through it. I'm glad we can make a difference for these boys. We can help them."

"I knew you would feel that way."

Andrew

"Ethan, what do we tell the boys, and when?" He looks at me and shrugs his shoulders.

"I don't know, we will figure it out."

There is a soft knock on the door. Ethan jolts up and wets a cloth, tosses me one, and wipes his face. I call out "one second" as I wipe my face. I'm sure it's red since I have been crying, but there's not much I can do about it. I dry my face as I walk over to unlock the door. It's Robert.

"Hi Andrew, I know there is something going on, and wanted to know what Eric and I can do to help. The boys are staying here, right?"

"Is it that obvious?"

"Yeah, even the boys are asking. Something doesn't make sense."

"Well, they will be staying here for a bit while we figure out what's next. You know that Max's dad was the problem, so the decision was made to keep the boys together and in a safe place until we work things out."

"Is it possible for me and Eric to stay too? We don't have school, and I'm sure the rents will be okay with getting us out of the house, especially if we tell them that we are helping with the rescued boys."

"That would be great."

Robert then added, "Max did mention something about his dad abusing them, I figured that those injuries were not from getting lost."

Just then, Ethan stepped out of the shower area to join our conversation.

Ethan looked at Robert and smiled. "You're very observant, Robert. You're the kind of person we need on the Search and Rescue team. I'm sure the boys will open up over time. It's great that you have offered to be there for them and support them. They need someone they can trust, and we don't know who they will pick. I hope they chose to confide in all of us so we can help them."

"You got it, Ethan. Eric and I will be their big bros."

"That would be very nice of you boys. I want you to go see your parents face-to-face and make sure you can stay. Be sure to hug them and tell them you appreciate them. Be thankful you're not one of these boys."

"We will, Ethan."

I add, "Pick up some clothes and whatever you need to stay for a week. Be sure to tell them a big thank you from us for understanding. I'm glad your parents are cool with you being gay. Unfortunately, Max's father wasn't so much, and that's about all we know at the moment."

Robert's eyes lit up, "a week? Really, that's so cool of you, Andrew. Ethan, can you take us to get our stuff?"

"I need to stay here, but I can call your parents in case they have questions. You can take my Trail Boss over to pick up your stuff as long as you stop and wash the mud off and clean out the interior from the five muddy guys."

Robert's eyes got even wider, "Really? You'll let me drive it? Dude, of course, we will wash it and get right back." Ethan was being sneaky and getting some slave labor out of the deal, but who could blame him, and who could blame Robert for volunteering? A sixteen-year-old gets to drive an amazing rescue truck. I'm surprised he didn't shoot a load right there from the excitement. I swear I saw his cock swell up as he was thanking Ethan.

I am actually shocked. Ethan never even lets me drive his pride and joy. The truck is outfitted for search and rescue and is fun to ride in. It is well-worn in some places from all of the rescues and trips with the explorers, but he keeps it in pristine condition.

Robert runs out the door, his semi-chubbed cock flopping as he runs and jumps into the pool. What I see next surprised me as much as when he swam up to me to savor the droplet of cum off my cock. He goes right to Eric, hugs him, gives him a big kiss, and shouts, "We get to stay with them for a week!" Eric and Robert are bobbing up and down in the pool, and the three younger boys swim over to them and join in a big group hug. I can't clearly see through the water, but I think there are five very erect young cocks bouncing up and down.

Robert and Eric broke away and got out of the pool, ran into the pool house to shower, and changed. They come out wearing some shorts and tees I had put out for them and look so cute with the slightly oversized clothes. I smile at them and ask if they have their wallets and licenses from the baskets on the counter, and I get a "Yes, Dad" response as Ethan tosses them the truck keys that are sitting next to his stuff. The boys said they would be back in a couple of hours.

Ethan grabs his cell and walks out by the adult play area to call the parents in private, and I take the other boys into the house.

Josh is excited that there is going to be a big boy sleepover tonight. Josh's antics might just keep things together as we sort through what to do next.
