This is the first story I've written so I really appreciate the feedback you guys send. I only keep writing when I know people like my writing. I apologize for how long this chapter took to write, I just started a new job and I don't have the hours to work on writing as much. I'm forging on though, nothing I hate more than an unfinished story. Well, besides when the story ends, but that's different. Enjoy! This chapter will follow Simon to his new home so please read and find out how he takes it. Broken boy: Chapter 3 Simon woke suddenly in the night, his breathing hard as he escaped from the nightmare that plagued him. He only found himself waking into a different sort of nightmare. He found upon waking that he had wet the bed in his sleep, something he had never done before. He just stared down at himself, not knowing what to do or how to handle it. He remembered about James and pressed the call button. He wasn't prepared when James wasn't the one that showed up. Simon didn't know what to do when someone other than James came into his room. James had said he would be there, and Simon had believed him. It hurt Simon that James wasn't here. It was an orderly who attended Simon's call. He worked the night shift, went to school in the morning, and hated every seconds of it. He wanted to be a doctor, not a glorified chamber maid. The man said nothing while he cleaned Simon, and Simon was quietly intimidated by him. He was rougher than James had been, cleaning Simon vigorously with a little more force than necessary. Simon didn't like the man, but he didn't complain about the treatment he received either. He was afraid he might be hit if he did, since that is what his father would have done. When Simon was all cleaned up and situated back in a clean bed the orderly left. Simon was discouraged with the whole interaction, he had expected James and got someone who couldn't have cared less. He hugged his good leg to himself with his good arm and stared into nothing. He was trying to keep his mind clear, he knew that if he let himself think about the past he would cry. He didn't want to cry anymore, but he couldn't stop himself either. He hurt, both physically and emotionally. Simon was plagued with a pain no child should feel. Inside his chest he felt a hollowness, a sinking feeling that was almost physically painful. Simon ended up crying himself back to sleep. He mercifully did not dream this time, regardless of his loneliness. When he awake it was to James, who had brought him breakfast. Simon was groggy from having just woken up, but that didn't stop him from remembering James absence in the night. He pushed the food away, refusing to touch the food. He didn't want to eat, didn't want anything to do with the liar. He glared daggers at James, who didn't fail to notice. James wasn't sure why Simon was mad at him. He hadn't been told about the incident that took place that night. When he asked Simon what was wrong he didn't get an answer. Simon wouldn't speak with him. "Simon, please tell me what's wrong. I can't help if you don't talk." James explained, practically begging Simon to talk to him. He had yet to hear the child's voice, and he wanted desperately to. He wasn't disappointed. "You... You didn't help last n-night." Simon spoke accusingly, his voice not above a whisper. He was again hugging his leg to himself with his good arm, trying to comfort himself from the feeling of loneliness he felt. "What happened last night?" James asked, but he didn't get an answer. Simon was looking out the window, pointed ignoring the man. "I'm sorry if something happened while I wasn't here, my shift ended yesterday after dinner. I'm not allowed to help when I'm off hours Simon. Even if I want to." James tried explaining. He didn't want Simon mad at him, not for something out of his control. "Please don't hold it against me, I would have been here if I had been allowed to." James looked at Simon with a pained expression on his face. How many times had this child been let down by men in his life? He didn't like the idea of being on that list. "Please don't hate me." James found himself whispering. He hadn't meant to say it, but it slipped out anyway. He knew Simon had heard it, a tear was rolling down the boy's cheek where one hadn't been before. James couldn't help himself, he scooped the boy up into a hug. He was as gentle as he had always been, careful not to hurt any of the boy's injuries. Simon was tense at first, but he relaxed and melted Into the man. This was someone he knew actually cared about him, and as much as he wanted to be angry with James he couldn't hold a grudge. No, Simon wanted too much to feel love again, he wasn't about to deny it from anywhere. He clung as hard as he could with his injured limbs and didn't let go when James tried to release him. "Simon, I have to get back to work buddy. I can't stay here with you like I want too." James said as he pried himself away. "You r-really w-want to stay with m-m-me?" Simon asked, disbelief evident in his voice and body language. "Of course, who wouldn't want to stay with such a beautiful boy?" James answered with a smile. Simon had a straight line to his heart. He would do anything for the child, even to the point of jeopardizing his job. He could tell his words had a profound effect on the boy, who smiled himself. This time the smile reached his eyes. Jason patted the boy's thigh in affection. He had finally accomplished what he had been striving towards. He would forever remember that smile, not just the one on Simon's lips, but the one in his eyes. A true smile. He cherished this moment, reluctant to leave. He hugged Simon again and kissed his forehead before saying his goodbye. Simon laid back in his bed happy. He knew someone who really wanted to be around him and it made him feel like he wasn't alone anymore. He sighed as he turned toward the window and watched the sky. He didn't have anything else to do. There was a television in the room but he didn't know how to work it, having never been allowed to touch the television at home. No, not home. Kevin said he would stay with him now. Simon thought that of everything else it would be nice to spend more time with Tyler. Tyler would be the first friend Simon would have in a long time. He wanted that companionship again, he missed the old friends he had had. With another sigh, Simon looked around the room. He was confined to his bed, so he couldn't touch anything he saw. He wished he wasn't injured so he could walk around. Simon was beginning to grow bored, he really had nothing to do. Don't the doctors know that little boys get really antsy when they have to sit around. He was saved from further boredom when Kevin walked in carrying a backpack. "Good morning Simon, how are you doing?" Kevin asked. "H-hi..." Simon whispered, afraid to let his voice get any louder. When he was with his father he wasn't allowed to speak or he would get hit. As timid as Simon was, Kevin was willing to work with him. He looked forward to a day when Simon was fully out of the shell that he had built around himself as protection. He hoped Simon would realize he didn't need it anymore. "I've got some clothes for you to wear after the doctor sees you." Kevin explained as he held the backpack up. He placed the backpack on the floor next to the chair he frequented and moved to the bedside. He gave Simon a hug and kissed the top of his head. After they separated Kevin put his hand on Simon's shoulder and looked in his eyes, glad that Simon didn't hide his face often. "Are you excited to see your new home this afternoon?" Kevin asked, a big smile on his face. Simon nodded, but he didn't smile or respond. He looked away from Kevin's gaze, who noticed that something was wrong. "What's wrong?" Simon hesitated before answering, "A-am I r-really g-g-going to live w-with you and Tyler?" He whispered. He was looking down in his lap where he was fidgeting with his fingers. He still wasn't quite at the point of belief, so ingrained in his head was the doctrine his father had forced on him. He had been told no one wanted him, no one loved him. That he was ugly and shouldn't talk. So many terrible and heinous things drilled into his head that he didn't know what to do, say, or how to act. He was confused most of the time and unsure of himself the rest. He was only just learning basic social skills again, everything he said not coming out at more than a whisper. He had learned early that adults lie, so he didn't want to believe and get hurt. He was afraid of the hurt now. "Of course, Simon. I promise you won't ever have to live with that horrible man ever again." It was an easy promise to make, one he would fight tooth and nail to keep. He wasn't about to let this beautiful child get hurt while he could do something to protect him. Helping to treat the boy on the operating table created a bond, meeting the boy and helping to bring him out of his shell solidified it. Now he wanted nothing more than to hug the child and protect him, to fix his problems and treat his hurts. He hadn't wanted another son the week before, but now he would call Simon his son if he could. Three days is a short time to grow so attached, but the circumstances were out of his control. He could see tears forming in Simon's eyes, but he could tell the child wasn't sad. For once these weren't tears of hurt. This time it was Simon who initiated the hug, or tried too. He was barred back by he injured limbs, he hurt himself slightly when he tried to launch himself into the hug. He grimaced, but Kevin knew what he wanted and quickly scooped the child up. They held each other tightly, the beginnings of love flowing between the two. Kevin sat down of the bed with Simon in his lap and rocked him gently. Simon just relaxed into the man, letting himself be held and comforted. He loved the feelings that were coursing through him. He hadn't been held since before his mother died and he didn't want to stop either. He was slowly starting to fall asleep when a doctor walked in. "All right Simon, let's get you checked over." He said, smiling when he saw the two holding each other. Kevin got up to place Simon back on the bed, but Simon wouldn't let go. He didn't want to be poked and prodded more and on top of that he was enjoying being held before this guy came in. He wasn't able to hold on strong on account of his injuries, but thankfully the doctor spoke up when he noticed Simon's reluctance. "That's alright Kevin, he can stay in your lap. I only need to check his casts and ask a few questions." So Kevin relented, sitting back down with the boy in his lap. The doctor checked the casts first before grabbing a clipboard. "Okay, Simon. Are you in any pain right now?" Simon nodded. "Okay, can you point to where?" Simon didn't know where to point, he hurt all over. The pain. Was centered in his leg and arm, so he motioned toward them. The doctor in turn marked his clipboard. "Now, the casts are set nicely, but the pain will continue for a week or two, especially if he is highly stressed. Keep him immobile for a few days and he shouldn't aggregate his injuries. We'll give you a prescription for some pain meds, make sure he takes one in the morning and see a doctor if he feels pain at night before bed. Now, Simon you're free to go." The doctor tore of a piece of paper from his clipboard and handed it to Kevin, who placed it in his pocket. The doctor then left. "Alright buddy, we need to get to get you dressed." Kevin got up and placed Simon sitting on the edge of the bed, he noticed Simon was blushing furiously. Simon had noticed his nakedness and was trying to cover his genitals. He smiled at the boy it what he believed was a disarming way. "H-how will I l-l-leave if I c-can't walk?" Simon asked through his embarrassment. He wasn't trying to cover himself anymore and he seemed distracted to the point that he didn't notice he was playing with his small penis. He was looking at Kevin, cheeks red from blushing, and didn't seem to bother with the hair that fell in front of his eyes. Kevin believed he must be very used to long hair if it didn't bother him like it did his son. "You won't have to walk, we'll get you a wheelchair." Kevin answered. He grabbed the backpack of clothes and knelt in front of Simon, who blushed deeper when he noticed he what he was playing with. He smiled at the boy's innocence and pulled a pair of carton briefs from the bag. "Do you like Captain America?" Kevin asked as he held the stylized briefs up. Simon only nodded and held out his good leg. Getting Simon dressed turned out to be tiring for both of them. After finishing a near twenty minutes later Simon was panting with lack of breath and Kevin was worried that he might have a bigger problem undressing the boy at a later time. Kevin scooped Simon up into his arms and got him comfortable. "Lets go find a wheelchair for you." Kevin said, but stopped short of this quest when Simon spoke up. "C-can't I just be c-carried?" Simon said this with his face buried into Kevin's shoulder, so his voice was muffled. Nevertheless Kevin still understood what he said and nodded, happy to ferry the child around in his arms. His own son no longer liked being carried, which is something Kevin lamented. Sometimes boys just grow up too fast. Kevin checked out at the nurses counter for Simon, all the while Simon was being lavished with gushy affection from the female nurses. Simon was beginning to grow nervous, and showed this by squirming slightly in Kevin's arms. Kevin didn't notice this until Simon began to grow more restless. He quickly said goodbye to his coworkers and left the hospital. Kevin drove a little two door sports coupe, which was blue in color. It was the latest model out, something that Kevin took pride in. He set Simon in the back seat, nearly hitting his head on the car roof in the process of moving the seat and getting the child buckled in. Kevin mistook Simon's nervousness for excitement to be riding in such a nice car. The boy was squirming the entire time that Kevin was buckling him in, unable to sit still. When Kevin got into his seat he took a look back at the boy. "Are you hungry for some lunch Simon?" Kevin asked, but Simon shook his head no. Kevin frowned, "Are you sure?" The child just shrugged his shoulders and looked out the window, this set off an alarm in Kevin's head. "What's wrong?" Simon only shrugged his shoulders, unable to put to words what he felt or why he felt that way. It was a new feeling to him, and he wasn't sure how to deal with it. "If you get hungry just let me know, okay? I'm going to head home, Tyler is waiting to see you." This last statement seemed to cheer him up a little. He was still a little withdrawn, but Kevin was able to tell it was because he was nervous. He didn't know what to say to calm the boy, so he decided it would be best to assuage his fears now. He started the car and started to head home, he knew his son was really excited, he just hoped Simon would adjust alright. It wasn't a very long drive to the housing development in which Kevin had his house. Simon watched the scenery go by outside, his mind on the trivial things a little boy thinks about. Kevin kept an eye on him the whole drive, trying to gauge his emotions. When he pulled into the driveway he saw the boy take a deep breath. He got out and turned to get Simon out. Simon grabbed on tight with his unbroken arm, he was looming around but he felt lost, unsure of where he was. He was afraid that if Kevin let him go he would never feel like he belonged again. He gripped Kevin with all the strength he had and this doesn't go unnoticed by the man. Kevin lead Simon into the one story home. Tyler was again laying on the floor in front of the T.V. but instead of playing video games he was watching cartoons. He wore his favorite pajama bottoms without a shirt and immediately jumped up and ran to the pair entering his home. "Hi daddy! Is that Simon? Is he all right? Can he play with me?" Tyler went on, he didn't even seem to stop for breathe and was literally jumping with excitement. Simon didn't know how to respond to the boy, so overwhelm as he was dealing with everything. Tears came to Simon's eyes when he realized that Kevin had told him the truth, he wouldn't be living with his father anymore. He broke down crying as he held tight to the older man. Tyler stopped his antics cold when he saw Simon start crying. He hadn't expected this at all, and he didn't understand why Simon would be sad. Kevin himself was a little confused, but he quickly understood that Simon wasn't sad, that be was crying in joy and grieving for a life that he hadn't lived for two whole years. Simon wasn't sad, he was just emotionally overwhelmed. "It's okay Tyler, Simon is just really overwhelmed right now. It's best to just let him rest and then let him decide what he wants to do." Kevin explained to his son, which in turn comforted Tyler. He moved further into the house, cradling Simon all the way, and was followed by Tyler. Tyler wanted to be there for his new little brother, big brothers didn't let there brothers cry or be hurt and Tyler was going to be the best big brother ever. "It's okay Simon, don't cry." He said after his father sat down on the living room couch. He hugged Simon and his father with Simon in between them like the filling of a cookie. Tyler was lost in what to do to comfort Simon and get him to stop crying, he was only just now starting out as big brother and didn't know how brothers acted together. He backed up afterwards and sat down next to them, waiting for an opening to connect with the other boy. Simon loved the feeling he felt when he was hugged by the two, and it helped to calm him down. It was only a short time later that the tears had stopped, but Simon still had the sniffles as he relaxed his grip on Kevin. He looked around himself a little and noticed Tyler was sitting next to them. He was a little embarrassed that Tyler saw him crying but when Tyler only smiled at him he felt at ease. "All right boys. I'm going to make some lunch. Tyler will watch out for you, Simon, and he'll get you anything you need." Kevin explained as he placed Simon on the couch. Simon was reluctant to release his hold, but he didn't want Tyler to see him act like a baby. At least not any more than he already had. "Do you wanna watch cartoons, Simon?" Tyler asked, once again bubbling over with excitement. Tyler was all too happy to do anything Simon needed, save maybe helping him use the toilet. Simon nodded his head and the two bonded over Tom and Jerry. The cartoons were just reruns and ones that Tyler had already seen, but they were still funny to him. Even though Simon didn't laugh out loud, Tyler could tell Simon was at least amused by the two cartoon character's antics. Tyler, being a child, was quick to give his love. Tyler showed this by sitting close to Simon, their sides were rubbing against each other with every movement. While Simon sat still and reveled in feelings he didn't quite understand yet, Tyler squirmed around with every laugh. Tyler got up suddenly, the attention span of the hyperactive ten year old didn't last very long. "Do you want to play video games?" Tyler asked, but he didn't wait for an answer. He grabbed the controllers and switched the T.V. over. He handed one of the controllers over to Simon, who had never even seen a game system before yet alone held a controller. Tyler plopped down next to Simon and scooted close, practically cuddling the younger boy. He wasn't hurting Simon nor even making him uncomfortable. Simon didn't know what to think of Tyler, he wouldn't have known what to do with himself without Tyler around. He liked the older boy, that was without question, but he had never been this close with anyone but his mother. He liked the feeling of closing, he decided, but it made him feel weird in his tummy.HE Tyler noticed Simon wasn't holding the controller right and froze. Had Simon never played video games before? He thought. But everyone plays video games. Tyler didn't mention this as he started the game up, he just wanted to have fun and make Simon happy. "Here," he said, "hold it like this." And with that the ice was broken. The two boys plunged into a world of fun and fantasy, jostling each other and generally having a good time. They both wolfed down the food that placed in front of them by Kevin, who sat in his special chair and watched the two. He smiled at Tyler's antics, glad that Simon wasn't put off by the hyperactive child. Kevin had been unable to calm him down sufficiently lately, his special treatment not working like it was supposed too. That didn't stop Kevin from enjoying to two, but it was tiring to have to deal with a hyper active boy. Before long Kevin noticed that Simon's eyelids were starting to droop. He could tell that Simon was fading fast, tired from all the emotionally taxing events. He watched as Simon's game playing dwindled to nothing. When Simon completely fell asleep, he was leaning against Tyler with his head resting on Tyler's shoulder. "Simon?" Tyler inquired, but Kevin stopped him from waking the child. Tyler understood, and he felt warm and fuzzy with love when he realized that Simon was using him as a pillow. He smiled at his father and reached an arm around Simon, who cuddled closer to his new friend. Kevin decided to take a picture of this, so that Simon could look back and remember the beginning of his new life. This was the beginning of Simon's healing, his mending. It started a new chapter in his life, one that would stay with him as the happiest of his younger years. ● ● ● Thank you for reading chapter three, chapter four is in the works now. I apologize for the wait, I had several obligations I have had to attend too, including a new job. I am also working on another idea for a second story, but I having started yet. If you want to see something specific just ask, and I'll try to accommodate, just please don't be angry when I can't. I make no promises. If a story isn't fun or have some emotional connection to the writer then it is really hard to write, at least for me. On another note, Chapter four will have some sexy fun in it. So if you want to read about that than I will be more than accommodating. I enjoy hearing your feedback, it makes me want to keep writing, so please keep sending. Thank you very much, Corin.
