Chapter 18 - A Busy Fall

Things calmed down again after my birthday, and we all fell into our normal routine again.  This included me picking up Reid at school with Evan and Ashley in tow when he stayed after school for the writing club.  I didn't mind doing this, though, because it was actually nice to see he was getting involved in something that paid the bills for both his father and me.  I also secretly hoped he would follow in one of our footsteps.

Seeing we had now slipped into October, discussions seemed to revolve around Halloween.  Reid informed me that he didn't plan on going trick-or-treating this year, so he and I agreed we'd stay home and pass out the treats.  This worked out well, because now both Brad and Pam could take Evan and Ashley around the neighborhood, rather than having one of them stay home to take care of that duty.

Since it wouldn't seem like autumn or Halloween for me without certain reminders that I still enjoyed from my youth, I picked up a few additional items when I went grocery shopping.  I ended up purchasing a gallon of Apple Cider, a dozen donuts, and two 4-packs of candy apples for those of us at home, as well as a few extra treats for those stopping by the house on Halloween night.

After hassling with Brad and Pam about paying my way since I'd first moved in, we'd finally reached a compromise that made it so I didn't feel as if I was taking advantage of them.  I would chip in a fixed amount each month toward the groceries, since I ate my meals with them, but I would also keep a few things in my apartment for personal use.  This would include coffee, since I lived on it during the day, any other drinks I wanted, and snacks.  Even though I wasn't a great cook, I'd also agreed to fix dinner on Monday thru Thursday so Pam wouldn't have to rush home from work and fix something.  She said she would take care of Friday nights and fix something if we didn't go out to eat or order something to be delivered, and she'd also cook on the weekends as well.  We all felt this was a reasonable solution, and I no longer felt like a freeloader.

During the first week of October, each of the kids schools had an open house, and all three wanted me to come along with them and their parents to see the school.  After talking it over with Brad and Pam, they thought it would be fine, so I went too.  During the open house, the parents not only got to meet the teachers and see the classrooms, but they were also asked to sign up to conference with their child's teacher or teachers.  This would take place sometime during the next couple of weeks, and there were multiple times to choose from.  There were afternoon appointments for the parents who didn't work, since the schools would be closed during those times.  Then, there were four different nights to choose from for evening appointments as well.

This meant Brad and Pam would have to make three different appointments, one for each child, but the good part was they could meet with all the various teachers within the same block of time.  They met with Evan and Ashley's teachers first, and were told that both kids were doing well, although Evan's teacher commented that she was trying to correct some of his immature pronunciations.  Since they had also noticed this problem, Brad and Pam agreed to work on it at home, as well.

I thought Reid was acting crazy when he said he wanted me to go and meet with his teachers too, but Brad and Pam surprised me when they agreed with him.  They said that since I was the one who helped him and looked over his assignments, then I should get to know his teachers as well.  Since they were all in agreement, I went with them to the conference.

When we met with each of Reid's teachers, Brad and Pam would introduce me, and then they'd explain why I was there as well.  None of Reid's teachers seemed to object to my presence, and some of them were even quite complimentary when they found out how I was involved.  I heard comments such as, 'I knew someone had been working with him at home', and they all thought he was doing very well adjusting to the new school and harder workload.  His English teacher also praised him for joining the Writing Club, and once Brad and I explained what we did for a living, it caused his teacher to smile.

"I guess the apple didn't fall far from the tree then," he joked.  "It also explains a lot too."

We thanked each of his teachers after we spoke with them, and we also told them to feel free to contact us at any time, since someone was usually at the house.  They thanked us for that information before adding that the best students usually came from loving and supporting homes like ours.

We were coming up to the third Friday in October when Reid asked if he could stay after school to watch the Middle School football game again.  I told him I'd be willing to pick him up, because I was glad he was doing this with some of his friends, so he went to clear it with his parents.  Pam said she'd be home in time to watch Evan and Ashley before the game ended, so I wouldn't have to take them along when I went to pick up Reid.  She also reminded me it was her night to cook, so she'd have dinner ready by the time we got home, so I thought it all worked out very well.

On the night of the game,  I left as soon as Pam arrived home and got to the school before the game ended.  I decided to park the car and watch some of the action, rather than just wait in the parking lot.  I was impressed with the level of play for a middle school squad, and Reid's team was ahead.  Reid must have seen me when I was climbing the bleachers to find a seat, because I hadn't been there very long before he came over to greet me.

"Hey, Uncle Quinn, I didn't know you were coming to watch the game."

"I got here a little early, so I thought it would be more fun to do this than just sit in the car."

"I'm glad you did, cuz now I can introduce you to some of my friends.  This is Paul, Simon, Chad, and Jeremy," he said, as he pointed to each one.

"It sounds more like a group of musicians, if you ask me."  I giggled and the boys all looked at me strangely.  "Yeah, ok.  I guess that reference was way before your time, because I only heard about those guys because of my mom and dad.  Just in case you were wondering, Paul Simon was a singer-songwriter, and Chad and Jeremy were a vocal group from the 1960s, but they had a brief comeback in the 1980s.  That's why I made the comment."

"That's kind of strange, but it's funny too.  We've all been friends for quite a while and no one ever mentioned this before," Simon replied.

"Yeah, maybe me and Chad should form our own group," Jeremy joked.  "Do you play an instrument Chad?"

"I took piano lessons when I was younger," Chad confirmed.  "How about you?"

"I play the guitar a little, so maybe if we practiced some more," Jeremy offered.

"I'm sure your parents would appreciate knowing the money they spent on your lessons didn't go to waste," I teased.

"But can either of you sing?" Reid asked.

"Yeah, of course," they both echoed.

"I think he's asking if you can sing WELL," Paul added, making the rest of us laugh.

"We can sing pretty good, but we can practice that too," Chad responded, not to be outdone.

About that time a cheer went up from the crowd, so we stopped and focused on the game again.  The local team just made a crushing tackle on the other team's quarterback for a huge loss, so it looked as if that stop had ended the other team's current drive.  It now seemed likely that Reid's team would win.

We watched the final couple of minutes of the game together, and then we said goodbye to the others before heading out to the car.  Reid was in a really good mood during the ride back, and shortly after we left the school, he leaned over and rested his head against my shoulder.  I wasn't sure why he was doing this, other than to be close, and he stayed that way as I came to a stop sign.  Just before the car came to a complete halt, an older teenager standing on the corner saw us and decided to shout out a comment.

"Fuckin' Pedo!  Find someone your own age, you fuckin' child molester!"

I was glad we were only at a stop sign and didn't have to wait for a traffic light to change, because I hit the gas and sped away from there.  That's when Reid sat up and looked at me.

"We weren't doin' nothin', so why did he say that?"

"Because you were leaning against me like a school girl on a date."  Although I didn't tell him this, I was sure the goofy look on Reid's face might have also prompted the boy to come to that conclusion.  "Maybe you should start being a little more careful about how you act around me when we're out in public.  If things like this got around to people we know, it could cause problems for us.  Did you happen to know that guy?"

"Nah, I've never seen him before."

"That's good and works in our favor.  If he doesn't know who we are, there's little chance he can cause us further problems.  I just don't like the idea of drawing that kind of attention."

We stopped our conversation at that point, but we also opted not to say anything about it to Brad or Pam.  I was afraid that if they heard about what had happened, it might cause them to reconsider what they were allowing Reid to do.

Things pretty much returned to normal after that night, and the younger pair was all wound up about Halloween, although they were having a tough time picking out costumes.  Ashley was torn between being Little Red Riding Hood or Catwoman, but seeing she loved to watch Once Upon a Time with us, she finally went with Little Red Riding Hood.

Evan, on the other hand, was having trouble deciding if he wanted to be a Ninja warrior or a werewolf, but he finally decided on the werewolf, because he thought it would be scarier.  Once they had both made their decisions, they were ready for the big day.

After downing a hasty meal on Halloween night, Brad and Pam took the two younger ones out to go door-to-door collecting treats, but they only took them to the homes of people they knew.  While they were doing that, Reid and I answered the doorbell at home.

We were impressed with some of the costumes the other kids wore, and Reid even knew some of them from the lower grades at the Middle School.  Those youngsters either rode the same bus with Ashley and him, or he had seen them around sometime during the day.  However, we were caught by surprise when Simon showed up at our door.

"I wasn't going to go trick-or-treating this year, but since my parents didn't want my brother and sister to go out alone, they told me that I had to go with them.  I figured since I had to do this, I might as well dress up and get some candy too."

"Yeah, that makes sense to me," Reid replied.

"What's your uncle doin' here?"

"He lives with us and has his own apartment."

"I didn't know that."

"Yeah, he's a writer and works at home, so he watches my little brother and sister whenever my mom and dad aren't here.  He also picks me up at school when I stay late for different stuff."

"Oh, that's neat.  I just thought he lived near here and was helping your parents out by picking you up from the football game."

"He was helping out, but he lives here too.  He even cooks some nights so Mom doesn't have to."

"My mom would sure love havin' someone do that for her," Simon stated, and then he laughed.

"Yeah, my mom says it helps a lot."

"Simon, do you live near here then?" I asked, since Reid hadn't mentioned any of his friends living close by.  Seeing there were others showing up now too, I had Simon, his brother, and sister come inside so we could still pass candy out to the other trick-or-treaters as we talked.

"Sort of.  We live about three streets over, but I decided to bring the brats here, since I knew this is where Reid lived."

"How about Paul, Chad, and Jeremy?  Do they live around here too."

"Paul lives pretty close to me, but Chad and Jeremy live in another development nearby that is sorta close.  They ride the same bus to school, and so do Paul and I."

"But none of you ride on Reid's bus?"

"Nope."

"Ok, I was just curious."

Simon's brother and sister were getting impatient and urging their brother to leave so they could get more candy.  We said goodbye to them, but it had been interesting to learn a little more about Reid's friends.

Brad and Pam got home with Evan and Ashley before we turned out the porch light and stopped handing out candy.  It looked as if we were going to have a little left over, but not very much, so I figured Reid could have what remained, seeing he hadn't gone out and collected his own treats.

Evan and Ashley were really excited and wanted to tell me about the places they stopped at, because some were decorated more than others for the holiday.  They also wanted to tell me about some of the other kids they had seen and the costumes they were wearing.  After they showed me how much candy they'd collected, Pam told them it was time to get out of their costumes so they could take a bath and get ready for bed.

"Unka Quinn, will you give me a bath then?"

"I'm still answering the door and handing out candy."

"I can do that, if you want to help him," Reid offered, causing me to do a double-take.  Was this the same kid who usually complained when I took time to do things with his brother?

"Tell you what," Pam said before I could respond, "if you're willing to do that, then I'll have Brad watch the door so you three can just shower together, like you do on Friday and Saturday nights.  I'm sure that will be faster, and it would help me out too."

"Sounds good to me," I agreed.  "Evan, just run up to your room and grab the things you're going to wear to bed.  Then you can come down to shower with us when you're ready."

"Should I take my costume off first?"

"That's up to your mother, but you can come down to join us when you're ready."

While I'd been talking to Evan, Pam asked Brad to take over the door until there were no more trick-or-treaters.  When he did, Reid and I headed to my apartment.

"You surprised me earlier, when you offered to do that for Evan," I stated once we were alone.

"Yeah, he really likes you doin' that for him too, and I guess I don't really mind, but I'm glad mom told him to just shower with us instead."

"Yes, that will work out much better."

Before long, Evan came running in just in his underwear.  When we looked at him somewhat amazed, he decided to explain.  "Mom was already giving Ashley her bath, so they couldn't see me and I just came down like this."

"Hey, it's not a problem for us, but we were just a bit curious.  Now that you've explained things, lets get undressed and head into the shower."

Reid was the next one to get naked, so he went to start the water while Evan waited for me to finish up, and then we walked to the bathroom to join Reid.  As I was washing Evan, he continued to tell me about his night and the people he'd scared with his costume.  I guess some of the homeowners had really played it up big when they opened the door and saw him, which totally made his night.  He was thrilled that he'd been able to scare a few of the adults he visited.

When we finished, I dried the boys off and then Evan changed into what he was going to wear.  When he finished, he looked at Reid and spoke.

"You didn't put nothin' on.  Aren't you goin' up to your room too?"

"I just want to talk to Uncle Quinn first, so I'll come up a little later."

"Ok.  Thanks for washin' me, Unka Quinn."

"No problem, little buddy.  Sleep well."

"K.  I will.  Mom's prob'ly waitin' for me."  He then left my apartment and scurried up to his room.

"Aren't you taking a chance by doing this?" I asked, slightly concerned.

"Nah, he'll fall asleep soon and won't ever know I didn't go up there."

"If you say so, but I still think you're taking a chance."  We then crawled into bed together, but before I pulled the sheet and blanket over us, I decided to say something else.  "Since you were willing to do something nice for your brother and offered to let me give him his bath, I'm willing to do something special for you too.  I'll give you a choice - either you can suck me off or I'll do it for you.  Which would you prefer?"

"That's a tough choice, cuz I want to do both.  How about if we sixty-nine instead, cuz that won't take any longer than if I just did you?"

"You're a clever little devil, but ok.  Let me slide down a bit and then you can position yourself above me."

"K.  I was hopin' you'd do something like this after I said you could give Evan his bath."  He was grinning from ear-to-ear.

"Oh, you did, did you?" I replied as he was getting into position, but before he was set, I began to tickle him.

"Stop.  Don't do that.  Please stop!" he gasped out in between giggles.

"Ok, but that was for being such a conniver, because I thought you were only being nice."

"I was, but I was hopin' you'd be nice to me too."

As soon as we finished talking, we began licking and massaging each other's scrotums with our hands.  Then, we started working on each other's penis, and before long we were bobbing up and down on the other's steely rod.  I was also able to reach up and insert a finger into his rectum, so I could stroke his prostate too, but he wasn't able to do the same for me, since he was using both of his arms to balance himself.  Seeing he had a tendency to bust a nut before I was ready, I anticipated this would happen due to the dual stimulation and was prepared when he began to fill my mouth with his sweet load.

As soon as he recovered, he went back to work on me.  As soon as I orgasmed, he siphoned off every last drop from my penis, and then he swung around to kiss me for a minute, before he spooned up against me, ready to sleep.

"I really love you, Uncle Quinn."

"I love you too, sweetie."  My response caused him to look over his shoulder and smile at me again.

"I like it when you call me that.  Just remember not to do it in front of anyone else."

"Oh, I won't."  I then draped my arm over his side and gave him a squeeze as we prepared to sleep.

A couple of nights later was Pam's birthday, so Brad told me not to fix anything for dinner, because he was taking us all out to eat instead.

"Wouldn't you prefer to just have the two of you go out for the night?"

"No, I know she'd want the kids there too, so I'll wait and take her out again on Saturday, just the two of us, if you don't mind babysitting."

"Of course not."

"Good, then that's what we'll do."

As soon as they got home from work that night, we all wished her a Happy Birthday, and then Brad had us all load into the Highlander so he could take us to the Outback this time.  When I looked at him questioningly, he explained.

"Pam loves steak, but she's also crazy about their Bloomin' Onion, so this is what we'll do tonight.  I'll take her someplace fancier on Saturday."

"Ok.  I see now."

Once we were there, we ordered and enjoyed a very lovely meal together.  When we returned home, I quickly set out the cake I'd purchased earlier in the day, lit the candles, and then we all sang to her and had her blow out the candles, before we gave her our presents.  After she'd opened everything, Brad told her about Saturday night, which pleased her even more.

"Then you gave me two gifts," she said as she glanced at me.

"No, I think we're even," I replied, as I gave a quick glance toward Reid.  She merely nodded and grinned in return.

Later in the week, Reid came up to me one night after he arrived home from school.  "Simon told the other guys that you lived here with us."

"Is that a problem?"

"Nah, they just asked me a lot of questions about you.  Besides the stuff we told Simon on Halloween, I told them you were makin' me a character in your next story.  I told them a little about Reed in the story too, so now they all want to read your book when it comes out."

"I guess I'll have to hurry up and finish it then, because I don't want to disappoint my newest fans."

"I told them the names of your first two books too, and said they could find them at Amazon or in a store now."

"Does this mean I have to start giving you a percentage too, since you're acting as my publicist now?" I teased, and then I laughed.

"You can if you want too," he responded as he laughed too.  "I wouldn't mind havin' some extra money."

"I think I spend enough on you already to compensate you for the few people you tell, but I won't forget how you're helping me."

"That's cuz you help me too."

When Saturday night rolled around, the kids and I all said goodbye to Brad and Pam when they left, and then we went to watch a DVD.  The younger ones wanted to watch the Disney movie, Cars, so we all piled onto the sofa to enjoy it together.

When the movie ended, I had a decision to make.  I thought Ashley was too old and would be embarrassed if I gave her a bath, so I presented her with an option.  "You can either take a bath by yourself, or you can wait and have your mom help you in the morning."

"I'll do it myself.  I've been telling my mom that I'm old enough to do it and she doesn't have to help me, so maybe this will prove it to her."

"Ok, but just be careful, because I don't want you to have an accident, like falling in the tub.  You can call me if you need anything, but I'll be showering with your brothers."

"K."  And then I sent them all upstairs, Ashley to bathe and the boys to get what they were going to wear afterward.  In Evan's case it meant his underwear and pajamas, while Reid selected something to wear for tomorrow, since he liked to sleep with me naked.

As soon as I finished showering with my two, I helped Evan put on his PJs, and then I slipped on something too, so I could go up to tuck him and Ashley in bed.  Ashley appeared to have handled things well on her own, so I tucked each one in bed.  They both thanked me for doing it, and I kissed each one on the forehead and wished them sweet dreams before I left.  Then, I went back to my room and cuddled with Reid.

I'm not sure what time Pam and Brad got home, let alone what they did afterward, but they were both very cheery and in a great mood the next morning at breakfast.  They both thanked me for watching the kids for them, and I explained that I'd let Ashley take her bath alone.

"I guess I forgot about that, and I can see how it might have been a problem.  I suppose now she'll want to take her bath by herself every night, but that's ok too.  It will be one less thing that I'll have to do, and it will be another birthday present for me."

I merely smiled and nodded.
