Chapter 13 - Lukas!

***

So now I am older
Than my mother and father
When they had their daughter
Now what does that say about me?

Oh, how could I dream of
Such a selfless and true love
Could I wash my hands of
Just looking out for me

***

It was a warm, Autumn Saturday. The gentle breeze plucked the leaves off the trees and caused them to dance above the empty streets. The sidewalks were busy with families, mothers with strollers, people holding hands, eating ice cream or walking their dogs. Ain't gonna lie, it was almost too idyllic for my liking but I didn't want to spoil the mood.

After all, September 22nd was going to be a big day. The best day ever!

A dozen or so cars stopped in the parking lot near the restaurant. Most of the vehicles were full of people. My car was the least full as it was just my boyfriend and I sitting in the front seats. The rest of my family used my back seat to store their presents and other stuff they had no room for in their trunks.

I was nervous. Aside from my parents and brothers, there were also aunts, cousins, grandmas, grandpas and children from both sides of the family. Plus some friends. I didn't like crowds and it was about to get very crowded.

Considering all that, I wasn't in a hurry to leave the car. I watched everyone else exiting their vehicles and coming together in the lot, hugging and greeting each other. God, I hated family parties. I looked at the birthday boy who was sitting next to me, grinning from ear to ear. I was here for him and him only. Seeing him happy like this would make any sacrifice worth it. Here I was, I chuckled to myself, worrying about spending a few hours with my extended family. Was it really the worst thing I had to worry about? And the birthday boy was my family now too, after all. I reached to comb his hair with my hand, hoping the feel of it would lower the stress I felt building.

"Hey, my hair!" he slapped my hand, laughing.

"I know, I know," I said apologetically, "you were working on it all morning."

"Is it still about me taking too long in the bathroom?" Lukas rolled his eyes.

"It's about not letting me inside for over an hour! In my own house!" I scolded him playfully.

"If you took me to a competent hairdresser in the first place, I wouldn't have to!" he parried.

"There's no winning with you, huh?" I resigned, "it's always my fault."

"It's my birthday," he shrugged and unbuckled himself, getting ready to exit the car. As if this reason was enough to end all arguments and bring peace to the world.

We left the car and went to meet the rest of the family. Some of them I had seen over the last month. They'd come to visit after Lukas's adoption had been finalized and he'd moved in with my parents. Others, I hadn't seen for years. Some, like my Uncle Tom's wife, I met for the first time. Tom had remarried last year and his new wife was now pregnant with their first child. I had a lot of catching up to do with my family.

Luckily, Lukas was a great distraction and almost everyone was waiting to hug him and wish him a happy birthday. His hair was a tangled mess once he finally escaped their clutches. There were also other kids around, but Lukas was the oldest of the bunch.

I was smiling lightly to myself, watching the scene with amusement, when I heard a high-pitched voice calling my name.

"Uncle Matt!"

"Lena!" I shouted back and knelt to let the little girl throw her arms around my neck. It took her only one month to appoint me her favourite uncle. Technically, I was her adoptive brother now but she felt more comfortable calling me and my brothers uncles. "Now run, go save your older brother," I said, "I think they're shredding him to pieces over there."

I had to bite my lips to stop more tears from gathering in my eyes as I watched her happily jump down and join Lukas. The boy was in the middle of his growth spurt and she looked really small standing next to him. She was the reason why their dad had agreed to pass his parental rights onto us in the first place. But as it was, we wouldn't have it any other way. Even though the siblings grew up separately, they've become inseparable in no time. Like two misplaced pieces of a puzzle that have always belonged together.

Then, my younger brother Chris approached me. Obviously, Lukas and I weren't out to our extended family but I had decided I had to tell my brothers. So I told them as soon as they came back from college one weekend. I did get us reasonably drunk first, but I was relieved to hear they were fine with it. They were shocked, sure. They were certain I was trolling them. And when I told them that the parents are on my side, they just laughed at me. It took me holding the boy's hand at dinner the next day to make them finally believe me. We only did the hand-holding when Lena was in the toilet, though. Unfortunately, we had to keep her out of this secret for a while for... security reasons.

"You can't cry, Uncle Matt, or else you're gonna spoil the party!" my brother Chris said joining me by my side to watch the scene.

"I'm not crying. Something got into my eye," I joked.

A week after Lukas had moved in, we took him to the psychiatrist. I was the one to suggest he should be getting a checkup. And surely, he was diagnosed with mild ADHD. That was just before the school year started and we were told he would be receiving behavioural strategies and extra tutoring, depending on how well he did with his studies in school. The boy made me promise him I'd be helping him with math.

After all the greetings and reunions, we all moved inside the restaurant. We had to book the entire place to fit us all.

I quickly found I wasn't the only one charmed by Lukas. He was the centre of attention throughout the dinner, telling his stories to anyone who would listen. And almost everyone would. I noticed that his stories about his former life were gradually giving way to "Uncle Matt said this," "me and Matt did that," and so on. All without spicy details, thank god. He would give me a wicked smile or a wink anytime I was mentioned.

After dinner, the cake arrived with fourteen lit candles arranged on top.

"Make a wish, Lukas," my mom said and the boy's bright eyes met mine just for a fraction of a second before he blew them out, causing a round of applause. I couldn't believe how natural Lukas seemed to feel in this completely new environment. I fucking grew up in it and even though no one was paying me much attention, I felt constantly overwhelmed.

The cake vanished and it was time for the presents. The line formed with everyone holding their gifts. And damn, it took forever.

I patiently waited for the queue to move towards Lukas who accepted every gift and hug with a genuine smile and tears in his eyes. Lena wasn't forgotten either and while it wasn't her birthday, her heap of packages and gift bags was almost as big as her brother's. It wasn't just a birthday. It was a ceremony of accepting new members into the family. I had twice as many reasons to be happy as anyone else but instead of celebrating, I was holding back tears for most of it.

I had my main gift prepared for Lukas back in my apartment, but I also had a little surprise for him now.

"It's a double surprise," I said, handing him a small package. I was the last one to give my gift and we got surrounded by a circle of friends and relatives.

"It's a surprise that you got me anything at all, Matt," Lukas said, causing everyone around to burst with laughter and me to go red on my face. I'll get him for that later, I promised myself.

I impatiently watched Lukas fight with the packaging. Meanwhile, I started preparing the second part of the surprise. I wrote a short text on my phone and when Lukas finally opened up the present, I sent the text setting off my secret plan and put the phone back in my pocket.

"It's a cell phone!" Lukas exclaimed.

There had been a debate between myself and my parents whether or not Lukas should have a phone but eventually, we had all agreed that at fourteen he was more than old enough. This was in the pre-smartphone era and older generations were still suspicious of these devilish inventions.

"Yup, power it on!" I told him.

"Okay, what's the second surprise?" the boy asked after it was on, "Did you put something in it?"

"Nothing, really," I smiled, "just someone's number."

A big question mark appeared over the boy's head as he squinted and before he could start thinking about a possible solution to this riddle, the phone rang. Lukas stared at it breathlessly and I thought he was never going to answer it. But after a moment, his face changed into the widest grin.

"Kamil!!!!," he happily shouted at the top of his lungs when he finally picked up.

"Happy birthday, dork," I heard a muffled but familiar voice on the other side of the line.

I wasn't lucky enough to witness their conversation because Lukas ran outside to talk to our mutual friend in private.

At this point, I had to retreat to the bathroom and put my head under cold water because my face muscles were barely keeping it together.

I was just drying myself with paper towels when my Uncle Tom - the one that had remarried - stepped through the door and up to the urinal.

"You alright there?" he asked me and I saw in the mirror that my face was red.

"Yeah, I got a little emotional," I admitted.

"The birthday boy seems completely smitten with you," he noticed. "He wouldn't shut up about you the whole day." Uncle Tom was my mom's little brother and he wasn't much older than me - only by eight years or so. I had always treated him as an older cousin when we were growing up.

"Yeah, same as Lena," I agreed, "I think I might've inherited some favourite uncle genes from you."

"Oh, how flattering," he laughed, "if these kids are half as annoying as you and your brothers were at his age, then I don't envy you."

"You have no idea," I summed up and left for the main hall.

I was away for maybe like ten minutes but the vibe in the room had visibly changed. The juice and water on the table were now replaced with vodka bottles and adults were losing their jackets and sitting more comfortably in their chairs. I know, I know, it was a kid's birthday. But it was a Polish kid's birthday and I knew the kids were about to be forgotten.

I spent the rest of the afternoon talking to the relatives - mostly my brothers - and refusing one round of vodka after another. "I'm driving," I'd repeat like a parrot whenever someone approached me to fill my empty glass. Now and then, I checked outside the window to see Lukas swarmed by all the smaller kids, wrestling and throwing them around. There wasn't almost a single moment when I didn't wonder what the hell I was doing in his life.

Around four in the afternoon, it started becoming unbearable for me. There's a reason why you don't stay sober at parties like this. The conversations were getting louder. Stains started appearing on snow-white shirts and dresses. I spotted one or two husbands, clearly other drivers, looking as bored and miserable as I felt. The rest was having a ball, including my parents. Mom and Dad were now talking to my aunt and her husband and remembering events from when they were in college.

"I think I need a nap," I told them, "I'll pack the gifts and bring them home. I mean, to your place," I said.

"Aww, don't go," my mom said.

"You know I don't like crowds, Mom. We can continue celebrating next weekend. I'm not moving anywhere."

Luckily, no one else was stopping me, so I took as many gift bags as I could carry and proceeded to bring them to my car. Lukas must've spotted me because when I came back to grab another round, I heard footsteps followed by his voice.

"What do you think you're doing, stealing my presents?" he punched me in my arm.

"Just taking them to your room," I replied, too tired to joke.

"Okay, when are you coming back?" he asked, piercing me with his eyes.

"I think I'm gonna take a nap back at my place. Staying sober at parties makes me tired," I smiled weakly.

"I'm sober and I'm not tired!" he exclaimed, jumping around like a kangaroo.

"I'm old!" I parried, "have some more fun and you can come over next weekend. And I will be visiting during the week, alright?"

"You know what?" Lukas tilted his head, "you're pathetic."

"You bought it how you saw it," I shrugged.

"Mom, Dad!" he was shouting a second later to my parents. Our parents. It still sounded weird. "I'm going to help Matt with my presents."

Uncle Tom gave me a knowing smile and I wasn't sure what was on his mind.

It took Lukas and me two more trips to pack all the presents into the car and we managed to sneak out without incident. Ten minutes later we were unloading the presents into Lukas's room. It was funny because my former room was now his room. Yet another thing that felt weird. If someone had told me that this boy I'd met on the train a few months back would end up living in my old room with my parents, I would laugh in their face.

We didn't spend a lot of time there. For the final gift I had for him, we had to be at my apartment. We arrived there half an hour later.

The place was even smaller than my apartment in Big City. Just a single bedroom and small bathroom with a shower. I rented it a week before Lukas and Lena moved in. I was happy to get my old job back, too. At least partially. Since I could only work remotely, I was only able to take small assignments and earned significantly less as a result. As things were settling down, I was getting ready to start looking for something better but I wasn't in a hurry. But the decision was made. I was staying in Smalltown for as long as Lukas was staying.

"I can't believe you wanted to dump me on my birthday," Lukas complained, hopping on my bed. Our bed.

"I didn't. But I didn't want to force you out of there either. It was your party."

"Yeah, it was mine, until the booze rolled in," he laughed and invitingly spread his arms. I accepted the invitation and pushed him horizontal on the bed then laid on top of him. We made out. He was mine.

"Matt?"

"Lukas?"

"Thank you for the gifts. I liked yours the most."

"You're just saying it to make me feel better, right?" I questioned him.

"No, you oaf, it's true. I mean, the fact that they were from you made it all better, but I really wanted a phone. And I missed Kamil."

"He wanted to come but he had an important rehearsal."

"Yeah, I know, he told me. And he has a boyfriend now" the boy whined.

"What's so wrong about having a boyfriend?" I asked.

"Well nothing, I just have this thought that he really doesn't have any stupid rehearsals and just wants to do stuff with him instead of coming to see me."

"Nonsense. Maybe we could go visit him some weekend when his parents aren't home," I offered.

"Yeah, okay. We could go on a, you know, double date."

"We'll see about it," I chuckled. I wanted to tell him why it was impossible on oh so many levels but it could wait until after his birthday.

"That would be so cool, Matt! But, uhm, anyway, don't you have another gift for me?"

"Well, as a matter of fact, I do. And I know that you know that I do."

"So? What are you waiting for?" he stretched out on the bed, squinted and bit his lower lip. Way to be subtle. But it worked.

We'd been discussing it for weeks, if not months. And I'd been always telling Lukas to be patient. Then, when I finally conceded, I told him to practice using small, safe objects at first, getting progressively larger as he felt comfortable. He was laughing at me and my concerns but it didn't make me any less worried about his safety and well-being.

I put on some music and suggested that we take a shower first. After I was done, I left Lukas in the stall, telling him to clean himself up as carefully as he could. "Yeah, I know," he said.

He took his time. It was already getting dark and I covered the windows to make it nice and romantic inside. Then I lay on the bed in just my boxer shorts, chilling and waiting for him to come out. When he finally did, he looked gorgeous in his brand new white underwear. He climbed onto the bed, straddling me with confidence and bent down to kiss me. I grabbed his hands and I knew I would never let him go ever again.

The foreplay was so sensual. It lasted forever and now that we knew about our most secret pleasure spots, I looked forward to doing it all night. But then, he started getting into a certain position and I knew he was ready.

And when it finally happened, it was amazing. Any doubts I'd had, vanished. I showed him everything. It didn't all go smoothly but for the most part, it was like a dance, with me inside him. Lukas was lying on his back, with his arms around my neck, moving gently to match my rhythm. Closing his eyes and then opening them just to give me a look full of love. Full of trust. I do not doubt that he was seeing the same in mine.

I was being gentle. I didn't want to rush it and the tempo seemed to satisfy the boy, too. It was nothing like my other times which got repetitive after a while. With Lukas, I knew I could go forever and never get tired of it.

"Are you getting sore?" I asked after fifteen minutes or so.

"No, don't stop," he whispered. Nothing else was said and I trusted him to tell me if he became uncomfortable.

I'm not sure how long we were going, gently adjusting our positions from time to time and kissing frequently. As much as I tried to hold back, I knew I was almost there. I grabbed Lukas' penis and started stroking him to the rhythm of my pushes. He got fully hard in seconds. We were both close.

I came first and it felt as if my soul came. I didn't even have to speed up to make him spasm and shoot with me still inside him. I never saw such bliss on his face and trust me, I'd seen him during his most powerful orgasms.

"Lukas," I said, unable to believe he was there underneath me.

"Matt," he said and pulled me down for yet another kiss.

"Happy birthday," I whispered into his ear and bit it tenderly.

"It is, Matt," he said sweetly, "it is."

So sweetly like only he could say it.

Out of all the people in the world, just him.

Because he was.

And he still is.

Lukas!

The End.

Special thanks to Niko for constantly nagging me during my hiatus, when I was almost ready to abandon this story.

Feel free to check my other stories. I don't reuse themes or ideas, so I can't promise you'll like them just because you liked 'Lukas' - but I do like them very much. Even my first story written in English (Damien) which is a little unPOLISHed (sorry). They're all in young friends.
