Chapter 36 - My Son and His Friends The next few weeks were busy with each of us having a lot to do at work, school, and home. Phil submitted his portfolio and a bid for the work on a major housing development in our county. Ryan and the other boys began to attend swim team trials, while I worked as hard as I could with my department to further condition our bodies and enrich our souls to win this competition at school against the students. Tanner was always under the watchful eye of the other members of the gang and me. I took a more prominent position in the hallway during the change of classes, as well as, before and after school. Tanner told me that he had a staring contest with one of the jocks, but that is as far as it went. They seemed to understand that any infraction could cost them their chance at a scholarship, so they opted to put any petty issue they had with Tanner to rest. In the meantime and on the home-front, I went down to my office to do some more research. I finalized some dinner reservations in both Savannah and Charlestown on the phone. I checked the prices for some of the tours in both cities and reviewed some of the travel must sees. I, then, began to develop lists for the boys and a list for me regarding things that we needed to pack and/or take on the trip. I finished my lists, stored them in a secure place on my computer, erased my search history, and returned to the family room. We were two weeks out from Spring Break when Ryan cornered me and wanted to know what I had planned for Spring Break. I told him that I would tell him in a week. He stood there and asked more questions, but I held my ground and said "Ryan, I will tell you next week and not a day before." He was frustrated, but he knew that I would hold my ground. He walked out of the house. The boys returned to the house later, and they lounged around the room giving me ideas as to how we should spend Spring Break. I nodded and explored their reasons and ideas with them. By the time they left that evening, I had them believing that we were going to Disney World. I heard them congratulate each other for leading me to do what they wanted. I chuckled to myself as I thought about how I would pull this one over on them. The following Sunday, I gave each of the boys a packing list. They looked it over, and then, they looked straight at me. "We do not see swimsuits on this list" they said in unison. I smiled and said "Well, you can definitely read." They then started in on me with "Where are we going? Why aren't we going to Disney World? You promised." I said "We are taking a trip and no, I did not promise that we were going to Disney World. You guys talked yourselves into that, I never agreed to go to Disney World, I only listened to your comments." Myles sat and listened as the other three continued to argue with me. Finally, Myles said "Guys, Pops is right. He never agreed; he just played us like fools." I looked at Myles and said "Your words, not mine." They then settled down, and I told them that we would leave one week from today at seven thirty in the morning. They then left to go show their parents their lists and probably to try to pump them for information. Ryan and I sat in the family room and watched a movie. Around seven thirty, my phone rang and Ryan answered it. He gave some short answers, and then, he handed the phone to me. It was my dad and this fact unnerved me. My dad does not make phone calls; that job is reserved for my mom. I said "Dad, what is wrong with mom?" He said "Your mom is fine, she will talk to you in a few minutes, but I wanted to know when your school year is over." I told him a date in June and he said "Okay, that works." I said "Why does that work?" He said "I am going to let you talk to your mom." He gave the phone to mom and she started in like she always does, wanting to know how we were, what we had been doing, what was going on the next week, and what were our plans for Spring Break?" Finally, I was able to ask a question. "Mom, why did Dad need to know when my school year ended?" She said "Oh that, well I am taking a trip with the Church to the Holy Land, you know across the ocean, and he does not want to go, so he is thinking about going to stay with you." I sat there stunned for a minute or so. Mom said "Doug, son, are you okay?" I said "Yes ma'am, I just didn't think he would come here by himself." She said "Doug, he has been talking about going down to visit you since we came back from the mountains. He wants to see your yards and spend some time with you and Ryan." I finished the conversation with mom and we hung up. Ryan asked me what was going on, and I said "Your grandfather wants to come spend time here when your grandmother travels with the Church to the Holy Land in June." He said "My granddaddy?" I said "The one and the same." He said "Wow, we will have to take him fishing and out on the river. What are you going to do about Phil?" I looked at him and said "I don't know, but we will cross that bridge when we get to it." We finished up with the movie, and then, headed to our rooms as Phil had left earlier that morning. We closed our doors and "hit the sack" as that is an old southern sayin. We woke up the next morning and began to get ready for work and school. Ryan met me in the kitchen and said that he would like some cereal. So, I poured each of us a bowl of cereal, and we ate a quick breakfast. I was the first to leave that morning, as I had a lot to do before Spring Break. I headed into the school, and Mr. Richards asked if he could speak to me. We went into his office and he closed the door. He said "Doug, I think you have a fantastic relationship with many of these students, and I am thinking that you may best be suited for one of our Dean positions which will be coming open soon." I looked at him and said "Mr. Richards, thank you, but no thank you. I will have a child attending this school next year, and I do not want to be in an administrative position. I love teaching, and I feel closer to the students in that calling than I ever would in administration." He said "I hear you, but I really do think that you should consider this position as the students respect you tremendously." I said "They respect me, because they know I am a teacher and we have a meaningful relationship in the classroom, I would not have that when I no longer have daily contact with them in a classroom setting." We finished our conversation with him bringing me up to date on the situation with Tanner. I told him that I had not heard anything more regarding Tanner being threatened. He said "Good, maybe we nipped that one in the bud." I left his office and headed to my classroom. I opened my door and placed my things on my desk. I walked outside and waited for the bell to ring. It rang, and the students entered. As Dakota passed me, he let his hand graze my cock and balls. It was slight, and I can't really say that it was on purpose as there several students trying to enter at the same time, but I truly had to wonder and if you must know it was enough to begin to puff up Doug Jr. I made a quick trip to my desk and sat down. I looked around the room and noticed that Dakota was looking straight at me with a silly grin on his face; I now knew that it was intentional. For the first half of the class, I sat at my desk as I did not trust myself from rising to the occasion again. I highlighted information that would be on Thursday's test and reviewed a few videos. The class ended, and the students moved out into the hallway. I stood just outside the doorway and allowed the students to enter. Tanner was in this group and he made it a point to be in a position so that he would be near me as he entered. I outsmarted him, as I stepped into the classroom before he entered. I have got to figure out why they are so bent on feeling me up. I finished the day and reported to the gym to work with my department. I had to go in the locker room and change clothes. I had forgotten to wear my compression underwear, so I had to change into them. Just as I lowered my pants after pulling off my shirt, Dakota walked in and stood down the aisle watching me. I just could not do it, so I dropped my slacks and put on my workout suit. I finished, and then, bent down to put on my shoes. Dakota walked up to where I was putting on my shoes and said "Mr. Brunson, you really should wear some compression shorts under you workout suit. I don't know why you are so afraid to show your goods, we all know the basic equipment that you have." I looked up at him and said "Dakota, there are just some things that should not occur between a teacher and his students." He said "But Mr. Brunson, you will not be our teacher in a few weeks." I said "That is not the way the legal system will look at it, and I am not going to put my career on the line for some jolly goings - on." He paused and then he said "I think I understand." I finished dressing and joined my department for another training session. I finished our training session, went back by the locker room and grabbed my school clothes. Since I was going directly home, I saw no need to change back into them only to change again at home. I drove home, put my clothes in the laundry room, and went to my bathroom for a quick shower. I dressed in something casual, and then, I began to fix a batch of Manwich and some French fries. I called the boys to dinner, and we had a fast dinner while I washed a load of clothes. I cleaned the kitchen while they continued to work on their homework. They finished around eight o'clock and everybody went home. I pulled Ryan to the family room, and we talked about some of the things that we had to finish before we left on Sunday morning. He knew the routine almost as good as I did. We talked about we would function with meals and household duties on Friday night, Saturday and finally Sunday morning. I told Ryan that we would be eating out since I did not want to cook on those days because I wanted the refrigerator cleaned and I wanted to focus on some cleaning which I was not going to be able to do since we would be out of town. He said that he understood. I said "Ryan, you need to start going through your closet and dresser, look at your clothes and make a decision as to what you can wear and what you can't. Put the clothes that you won't or can't wear in a bag so that we can donate them to Goodwill before we leave." Ryan started protesting and I said "Ryan, either you do it or I do it, and we know that I do a clean sweep when I get started." He looked at me and protested some more. I looked at him and said "You heard me." He stared at me for a few minutes and I asked "Do you understand me?" He said "Yes sir." I said "Ryan this is something that you could do before Friday night. I am going to start doing the same thing in my room tonight." He looked at me and said "What about Phil's stuff?" I said "Phil doesn't have that much stuff here, but he will handle his stuff Friday night. Now, let's go get started." We left the family room at the same time and headed to our rooms. I began going through my dresser and cleaned out a lot of old t-shirts, underwear, and socks. I placed the stuff that was still good in a bag to go to Goodwill and the rest in a bag to be put in the garbage. I allowed myself to keep only a few pairs of briefs, but kept most of my boxer briefs. By the time I finished the dresser, I had a lot of space in the drawers and I had bagged a lot of stuff for Goodwill. I called it a night after I finished the dresser. I stripped down to my boxer briefs and crawled into bed. I did not even read as I was ready for sleep. I woke up early on that Tuesday morning and hurried through my morning procedures. I met Ryan in the kitchen and we had a quick and simple breakfast of eggs, toast, and grits. He told me that he had worked through his dresser last night and had cleaned out quite a bit. I told him that I had done the same. We headed out to work, and well the rest of the week was pretty much the same thing. We worked on some stuff around the house each night, cleaned rooms and declared them off-limits after we cleaned them. School was a bit stressful, as I was trying to grade a lot of assignments and testing on the current unit before Spring Break began. Add to that stress, the fact that it was the end of the third nine weeks and grades were due on Friday. Now you understand why I was majorily stressed. Finally, Friday afternoon arrived and I had finished all of the grading of tests, assignments, and had posted my grades. I got in the Denali and drove home. Ryan and crew were at Jay's, but when I drove into the driveway, they came running to me. Jay began to ask questions about the trip again, and I said "Jay, you will find out by the end of Sunday about where we are going." He smiled and said "Well, Pops I had to try one more time." I said "You can try, but my lips are sealed." Ryan said "I wish his lips were sealed when it came to issuing orders around the house." I looked at him and he said "Just kidding, just kidding." Before I walked into the house, I told the boys that I wanted their luggage and other stuff in the Denali by 8 o'clock Saturday night. They said they understood. I walked into the house and began to wash clothes and lay out my clothes that I would take on the trip. I gathered my camera, my luggage, my charging cables, my laptop, and my iPad. I laid out my clothes according to type and began to place them in the luggage along with the other stuff. I slipped my reservation information in the outside pocket of my luggage, and then, I was finished. I walked to the kitchen and began to pull some snacks from the pantry and made a list of items that I would need to purchase. I walked out into the yard and called Ryan home. He came and wanted to know what I needed. I told him that we were about to head out to eat as soon as Phil arrived and to do some shopping for the trip. He wanted to know where we were going to eat and I asked him where he wanted to go. He said that he would like Mexican tonight. I agreed and told him that I would tell Phil. Ryan returned to Jay's until Phil arrived. I walked back into the house and went into the garage to find the cooler and one of my Rubbermaid containers. I pulled these out and placed them near the Denali. Phil pulled up about that time, I opened the garage door, and he walked over and hugged me. He said "I see that you have things under control. What's the plan for tonight?" I said "We are going out to eat and Ryan wants Mexican." He smiled and said "You know that could be dangerous" and laughed. I laughed and said "Well, we have not had it in a while, and you can take a pill before we eat." Phil walked into the house and headed to the bathroom for his shower. I followed him and handed Phil a Beano capsule. He looked at me and said "Are you serious?" I said "You brought it up, so yeah, I am serious." He took the pill along with a swig of water. I stood in the bathroom and talked to him as he showered. He opened the shower doors when he finished his shower and I threw him a towel. He dried off and as he did, his cock began to grow. I looked at him, and said "You need to send him a message of not now, maybe later." I walked out of the bathroom and waited for him in the kitchen. I called Jay's house and Meredith answered the phone. I asked if she would send Ryan home, and she said that she would. She said "Doug, while I have you on the phone, the boys have told me that you are not cooking this weekend, and I know that you like to have a clean house before you travel, so I am hosting a dinner for everyone tomorrow night at six-thirty. This is our treat to you for taking them off of our hands. I was baffled, but I thanked her and hung up. I turned around and Phil was ready to go, I told him about the dinner at Meredith's and he smiled and said "You are one blessed man, my love." I smiled and said "Well, this helps me out with trying to get out of here on Sunday morning." We walked out, got into the Denali and headed to the Mexican Restaurant after Ryan joined us. We parked, got out, walked into the restaurant, and were seated in about ten minutes. The waiter took our drink orders after telling us about the night's specials. After he left to get the drinks, we discussed the specials, and looked over the menu. As we were sitting there, I looked up and there was Landon, Tanner and Dakota sitting at a booth just inside the adjoining room. I suddenly wanted to leave, but I decided that Ryan wanted this, and I didn't want to have to explain my sudden desire to leave, so I decided to make the most of it. The waiter returned and we placed our orders. Ryan and I ordered the special while Phil ordered the jumbo burrito supremo. While we waited for our food, we munched on the fresh chips and sauce. Ryan tried to find out more about the upcoming trip, but I didn't give him any information. He smiled and said "I had to try." Phil looked at me and raised an eyebrow. He said "So he doesn't know that you guys are going to Miami Beach?" I looked at Phil and said "Phil, you have ruined the surprise." He said "Oh, I am sooooo sorry, but it just jumped out. You know better than to tell me a secret." Ryan looked at Phil and then at me. He said "Ha-ha Phil that is not where we are going, nice try, but I'm not buying it." I smiled and said "Guess you will know more Sunday night." Our food was served and we began to eat. The posse did not notice me in the restaurant so I felt very relieved. The food was outstanding and we soon were finished and ready to go back home. We arrived at home and headed to our rooms. Ryan went to his room, and then, he walked down to my room and joined Phil and me on the bed. He lay across the bed, and we just talked about a lot of things. He began to ask Phil about the big job and did he think that he could hire him and the others this summer since they would all be fifteen? Phil said that he would have to check into that, but if it was possible that he would give it serious consideration. I had my doubts, but I was glad to see Ryan take the initiative to be busy over the summer. Around eleven, Ryan got up and walked back to his bedroom while Phil and I stripped down and got under the covers. We talked about a few things and then, Phil turned out his lamp, rolled over. A few minutes later, I turned out my lamp and backed up to him. We were soon asleep. Saturday morning seemed like it suddenly appeared, so I woke Phil up. We showered and dressed quickly. I woke Ryan up and after he showered and dressed, we went to the little breakfast diner off the interstate for breakfast. We ordered the same thing which was two scrambled eggs, scattered hash browns with onions and cheese, toast, and orange juice. We were soon served our food which we ate hurriedly. I paid our bill, and we were off to make some purchases for the trip. We went to the grocery store and picked up some fresh bread, luncheon meats and cheese for lunch. Phil picked up a few packs of fresh strawberries and a bag of navel oranges. I looked at him and he said "Remember I am from Central Florida and we are famous for our oranges and strawberries." I said "I had forgotten that, but what are you going to do with the strawberries?" He said "I may put some in the freezer, but I plan on dipping some in chocolate for tonight's get-together and the rest, I plan to eat with a little sugar sprinkled on them." We left the grocery store and headed home. I walked into the house and stored the meats and cheese in the refrigerator while Ryan brought his dirty clothes to the laundry room. Phil gathered ours, and Ryan began to do the wash while Phil attended to some stuff in the backyard. I worked on making a few final reservations on my computer in my office. After Ryan finished with the clothes, he delivered them to the correct bedroom, and then, walked down to my office. I asked him if he was finished packing, and he said that he needed to pack what he had just delivered. I said "Great, now head on down and get that finished while I finish mine, then meet me in the garage with your luggage and we will begin to pack the Denali." We finished our packing and met in the garage. I placed our stuff in, and asked Ryan to take the cooler into the house and put it by the refrigerator. I took the Rubbermaid container and placed it by the pantry. We decided to go outside and join Phil in the backyard. Around four that afternoon, we finished outside and walked into the house. Phil took his shower first while I cut the green tops off the strawberries for him. When he finished his shower, I took mine and dressed for the get-together at Jay's house. Ryan took his shower last as he had started some movie on TV and wanted to see it to the end. I returned to the kitchen and Phil had two pots of chocolate melting on the stove, one pot of white chocolate and another pot of milk chocolate. I watched him spear a strawberry and dip it into the chocolate and then wave it in the air so that the chocolate cooled and coated each strawberry. When he finished most of the strawberries, he decided to try his hand at coating a strawberry with milk chocolate and then stringing some white chocolate on it or by coating a strawberry with milk chocolate and then dotting it with white chocolate. It was like watching a kid playing, but his results looked great. I pulled one of my glass plates down, and we placed the strawberries on it. The doorbell rang and Ryan answered it. Jay, Rob, and Myles were there with their luggage. Ryan invited them in, and they walked through the house to the garage. Ryan loaded their luggage with ours but left me room to pack the cooler and Rubbermaid container. Around six fifteen, we assembled in the kitchen with Phil taking his prized strawberries and headed over to Jay's. We were met at the door by Meredith, and she praised Phil for his strawberries and even took one from the plate and declared them the work of a God. Phil just beamed. We were ushered into the family room, took a seat, and joined the on-going conversations. Meredith called everyone to order and explained about the evening's meal and how the line would proceed around the kitchen. We all got up and began to move through the kitchen making our plates and enjoying the great looking dishes that had been prepared. Justin had grilled ribs and chicken breasts, Meredith had made her famous baked beans and a potato salad, while Christina had made a green salad and her blue ribbon Apple Strudel Cake. Michelle had made her mom's renowned squash casserole, a pasta salad, and two coconut pies. The food was delicious, and all too soon the dishes in the kitchen were mostly empty. Everybody sat around the family room finishing their meal and talking. Justin called the group to order and started a small speech about how great it was to have a neighbor like me in their midst. He continued by saying that this was not only his opinion, but that of the other parents, and mostly that of the boys. I felt my face turn hot, and Phil started laughing at me because he said that he had never seen me that red. Meredith got up and walked to the formal living room and returned with several packages. She walked over and placed them in front of me, and then, Justin said "Doug, these are for you from all of us. We want you to enjoy this trip and let you know how much we appreciate what you are doing for our boys." I started to protest, but Phil said "Don't make an ass of yourself, they want you to have these, it is their way of saying thank you." I began to open the packages and found: a backpack, a fifth of Jack Daniels (which evoked serious laughter), and three one hundred dollar Visa cards. I could not believe the generosity of this group. I thanked each and everyone one in attendance. Colt, then said, "Doug, we have given each of our boys a two hundred dollar gift card so that they can make some of their own purchases. We are stating here tonight in their presence that if they can hold on to their cards, and not have issues; then they can keep them, but if they are not acting responsibly; then they must surrender their card to you and you must approve their purchases before the cards can be used. Do you understand me boys?" They responded with a "Yes sir!" I put all of my gifts in the back pack and set it by the door. The boys went to Jay's room leaving me and the other adults in the family room. Christina said "Now, Doug we are all in on this trip, so we want you to keep the receipts for meals, rooms, and gas. We will split the costs four ways, and there will be no disagreement from you. We are so lucky that you love these boys, and we want you to know how much we love you too." I finally agreed to do as requested even though I had plans for one or two meals that would take place without their reimbursement. We enjoyed the hospitality, but around ten that evening I stated that we all needed to call it a night as I wanted to leave around seven thirty. Ryan, Phil and I returned to the house and went to our rooms. Phil and I spent some quality time together, and then, we rolled over and went to sleep. I set the alarm to sound at six o'clock, so when it went off Phil and I got up and took our shower together. I dressed for the drive, while Phil dressed for a casual day at home. I walked down to Ryan's room and woke him up, sent him to shower, and then, I returned to the kitchen to go over a few things with Phil. Ryan joined us in the kitchen, and we all had a bowl of cereal. After we finished eating our cereal, Phil put the dishes in the dishwasher and started it. I walked out to the garage and opened the garage door. I returned to the kitchen and packed the cooler with soft drinks, sandwich meats, condiments, ice; and the Rubbermaid container with chips, bread, and other snacks. Phil took the cooler to the Denali, while I took the Rubbermaid container. I had to move some of the luggage around to fit them in, but it all worked out so that we had some extra room for our future purchases. Around seven fifteen, the boys began to arrive with their parents. After a few hugs and hopefully unseen kisses from the moms, we loaded up and headed off on our trip. END of Chapter 36 - My Son and His Friends Well I must apologize as I thought we would be in Savannah or Charlestown by this time, but I think it is a good point to call an end to this chapter and devote the next chapter to the actual happenings on the trip. Thanks for reading and if you feel so inclined, drop me a note and let me hear from you. I love to read your comments and thoughts. Jay
