"Never, Shigeta." "Ready to become my boy?" "Yeah right," Karl replies, standing there as tough as nails, the indignant look on his face. "You should've left the uniform on. Would've been more erotic tearing it off your beaten body," Hiro replies, as one toughguy to another. "Yeah? Well at least I left the boots on for you to lick, after I pound you into the ground, Shigeta." The two slung the threats back and forth. "Well, where do you want to do this?" "There's a clearing up in the woods." "I'll follow you." "One problem." "Yeah?" "One of my buds just picked up the patrol car. I need a lift." Hiro always thought about the prospects of tying a man's wrists together, then hooking a long chain to them, attaching it to his motorcyle and make the man walk while he has the luxury of riding. He humored himself into doing it just for the factor of taking Karl here down a peg or two! "Sure, no problem." Karl follows Hiro out to the hospital parking lot. He tosses Karl a helmet and then stuffs his head into his own. After putting on a pair of sunglasses, he hops on board. "Aren't you afraid I'll squeeze your balls of something?" "What're you fuckin' crazy? Wind up with both our asses in a ditch!" When Karl hopped on back of Hiro's motorcycle, he did love the feeling of clenching around the middle of that leather jacket (or was it the bod?). Felt good to ride with the cool air rushing about, instead of pent up in a patrol car. They traveled for about a half hour before Karl directed Hiro to turn around. "What's this?" "Hey, couldn't pass up the spin on a nice day like today." "You mean we passed the turn off?" "Hey, don't get your balls all twisted up, Shigeta. It's been awhile since I've been on one of these things." "Yeah, what happened? Wreck it?" "Repossessed." "Man, that sucks." When it came to bikes, Hiro could feel for his worst enemy. (Well, dah!) Karl goes on to say, "Yeah, well I should've thought it out before buying it. Thought I'd be able to keep up with the payments. Such a fucking hot machine, too." "Where's this place you talked about?" "About five miles back. C'mon." On their way once more, Hiro made a wide swing, then headed on back down the road. Karl hit Hiro's arm, motioning him to turn off. Hiro opened it up and sped up the mountain, kicking up the dust. After a few more directions, they evened out on flat surface. "Good ride, man!" Hiro called out to Karl, after tearing up the terrain. "A little rough on the ass." "Get used to it!" Hiro informed Karl, laughing his ass off. "So, what are your terms, Shigeta?" "You... my boy for the weekend." "When I win, same terms, but not this weekend." "Oh? Chicken, again?" "Nope. Gotta save up for another bike." "Pending then." They both returned their gear to the motorcycle. After getting the preliminaries out of the way and setting up the rules, which went the way of 'no holds barred', the two faced each other. Karl removed his police officer's heavy leather coat. Hiro shed his leather waistcoat. He also took off the leather vest, pulling his shirt out of his pants. Karl, after seeing the track of hair down the Asian's stomach, wished he had stripped it. 'Hmm', Karl thought for a second, then pulled his PAL sweatshirt off over his own head. "Oh yeah, man. Keep going!" Hiro called out after eyeing up the thick, blond chest and the strip originating from midchest, defined as it made it's way down Karl's abs. Hiro wondered if the darker treasure trail led to any 'significant'. "Afraid to show your wimpy physique, Shigeta?" Laughing, he looked down to unbutton the tan shirt. That's when Karl made his first move. He charged Hiro, planting his fist right in his gut, then with both hands on his shoulders, brought his knee up into Hiro's balls. "Hey, you don't know any of that kickboxing stuff, do you Shigeta." "Wouldn't tell you if I did, punk." Hiro smiled. Hiro lay on his side, moaning in a terrible fit, holding his middle legs region. "Hee heee.. you ready to give up already, Shigeta?" Very coy, Hiro opens one eye. Yeah, the old play it 'hurt bad' scheme and Karl's falling for it, hook, line and sinker! "What tha...." Karl blasts out, seeing the leg rise up. Probably not in the kickboxing book, but doable, Hiro's knee bends and the bottom of his boot hitting, dead center, stomps Karl in mid abs. "Ooooooof!" "Next time you should be wearing an athletic protector!" Karl sits up on his knees, but bent over. Hiro walks behind the puffing cop, grabbing his blond main. Several mistakes are made on account of neither really know how to pull punches, except when one or the other has the wind knocked out of them. Plus, each faking how really hurt they are, surprises the other, like they're complete idiots! "Uggggggh!" Hiro groins when Karl's elbow backs into the Asian's gut once more. However, Karl loses his balance, falling backwards, all of his weight falling on his parted legs, against Hiro's bent knee. "Owwwwwch...ooooh shit!" Karl groans out loudly, his back falling against Hiro's chest, knocking them both backwards and flat to the ground. Reaching both arms around, Hiro holds Karl in the prison of his biceps. "Aaaagggghhhh!" Karl cries out, trying to break the hold. "You give, pig?" "Aaaaghhhhhh... in your dreams...aggghhh... Shit-geta!" Moving his left shoulder downwards, his hand moves between both of their legs. At first, quite out of context of the fight, he senses what a huge set of balls Hiro has, then the pipeline emanating from the centerfold. All too soon, his mind is drawn back to the reality of his chest getting squeezed inwards by the powergrip. Taking the extra large eggs in one hand, he crushes them for all his worth. "Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....oooooooohhhh shiiiiiiiit....nooooo!" The hold is broken open immediately, as the two globes are squeezed to perfection. Karl, with a new burst of testosterone, jumps up, grabbing both balls and putting them in clenches of his massive hands. "Looks like I've got you by the balls, Shit-geta!" Single-handedly, Karl shifts the hold around, working his right arm around for exercise. In his own eye to freedom, Hiro sees his chance to react. Being that Karl's back is to him, his balls aren't accesible for a hard punch, but that ass is highly visible. Doing a pushup with one arm, the other grabs for the beltline, holding on, then pulling backwards. It works to his good, casting Karl back, like a fishing line. "Oh shiiiiiiiiiiit!" The cop yells out, losing his grip on the jewels. Hiro moves out of the way, but his grip makes Karl fall sideways. Great position to flip him over on his stomach. It back fires though and as Hiro uses his weakening power, jumps onto him. Just at the minute Karl flips onto his back, instead. "Oooooof!" Both cry out, as they land chest to chest. Hiro falls over on his back. What each found out is that neither had been great fighters. A lot of the fighting wound up being on the ground, more wrestling than anything, rolling over and over on the ground, getting in an occasional ball squeeze. Each took a couple of punches to the gut and some backhanded motions. However all this proved is to wear each other down. Soon both lay flat out on their backs, staring up at the clear blue sky. "So what kind of bike did you think on getting, Karl?" "I don't know. Something used most likely." "I got a couple over at the station if you want to take a look." "Why?" "Why what?" "You're supposed to be whipping my ass, y'know, Hiro?" "You interested in a bike or getting your ass whipped?" "Yeah, what the hell!" Hiro got up first. "Good fight. Here," The six foot two Asian offered his hand. "What're you gonna do? Twist my arm outta the socket?" But Karl let Hiro help lift him up off the turf. "Yeah, thanks man." After pulling Karl to his feet, Karl says, "Turn around. I'll brush you off." "What're you gonna do? Slap some handcuffs on me?" "Would it turn you on?" So it went, where each took a turn swatting the leaves, fir needles, dirt and brush off their skin. Hiro took the opportunity to put some weight into brushing off Karl's ass. Karl got even. Even though their bare bodies had evidence of their pitiful ground fighting, they placed their shirts over the filth. "You know, Hiro, you're fighting skills suck!" "You ain't much better. Don't they teach you nothin' at that police academy?" "Yeah. I was being easy on you!" The rest of the morning had been spent taking a trip to Hiro's service station and checking out the motor cycle stock. A shower was offered, but the grease monkey business postponed that idea. % "I have some business to take care of this afternoon, but I want to thank you for the hospitality, Jacq... Sean." "Oh, you're quite welcome. Anytime, Riley. Oh wait! The whole reason you came by!" "Oh yeah, the registration materials." "Here you go, Riley." "Yeah, well, even if I forgot these, I've had a really good time, thanks to both of you." Jacq and Sean waited on the front yard walk, watching as Riley drove away. "Seems like a very nice guy." "That he does, Sean." "Jacq, do you think Ken should press charges against his stepdad?" "Well, I don't think he should get away with doing what he did to Sean. I mean, nobody except us four knows this information." "You trust that Riley wouldn't do anything?" "Sean, he gave us his word that Ken's story is off the record." "Then why did he bother to write it down." "Maybe in case Ken does decide, which I think he should, then Riley has all the facts." "I guess." Sean thought for a minute then ventured forth, "Jacq?" "Yes, Sean?" "Do you really think Ken should turn his stepdad in?" "I don't think he will have total peace with himself, knowing that he let his stepdad go free." "Hmm.." Jacq puts down the dish towel, comes from behind Sean and wraps his arms around him. "What's the matter Sean?" "Nothing Jacq. Um, you wouldn't want to come with me when I try to persuade him, would you?" "No, not at all, but I think before we do, we should take a lovebreak!" Sean smiles as Jacq already has unbuttoned his shirt almost down to his beltline. Reaching in, hugging his chest to the nienteen year old's back, he rubs his skin, pawing along his torso. "Ummmmmm... that feels so awesome, Jacq," Sean purrs with his eyes closed. After pulling Sean's shirt from his pants, he tackles the last button and then drapes the shirt backwards from his shoulders. The sleeves turn inside out as he peels the shirt, planting tiny kisses on his shoulders. "Mmmmmmm.... how did you get so proficient at this, Jacq?" "Practicing on you, Sean!" % "Who was that on the phone, Mike?" "Sorry, but I've gotta go, Gary. Big pile up on the boulevard by the canal." "But you're off... never mind, Mike. I shouldn't be selfish when lives are at stake." "You're a good man, Gary." Mike stood there, face to face. Navel to navel with his new lover, then closed in on the adorable face. "Well, if you can't be here with me, then I guess I'll go where I can be with you!" "Tell ya something Gary. They're gonna get sick of seeing you at the hospital." "Hmm... you mean if they get sick of seeing me, I might be the cause of an epidemic?" Mike and Gary arrived at West Richland Memorial Hospital, the place seemingly in chaos. Patients arrived in droves, via the emergency room entrance. "There's an airlift coming in in five minutes, Dr. Arrow," Maggie, the head nurse exclaims, adding, "We need more beds, too." "Let's see how many we can transfer from beds. to chairs. Start with Ken'ichi Richards, but make sure the back of the chair is padded with a couple of sheets. Also the young Wade boy." "Hey, look Mike!" Gary and Mike watched one of the rooms, as out through the door, Mike Finnegan had been one of those selected to sit in a chair. "Heeey, what are you doing, Maggie?" "Dr. Arrow's orders." "But this boy is hurt." Mike Finnegan looks up, "That's okay Dr. Roberts. I can almost walk." "You just stay in that chair, young man." Mike caught Mike Finnegan under the arms as he tried to stand and almost fell on his ass. "What'd I tell ya, kid?" "Yeah, you're right. Sorry." In the mean time, Gary had been in, checking up on Connor Matthews. "How's he doing, Dr. Scalia?" "Gary, when are you going to call me 'Maria'?" "Sorry, Maria." "I know I'm old enough to be your granny, but geez, give a girl a break!" "Hee heee.. okay, so how's Connor?" "He's doing remarkably well." Connor voices his opinion, "I feel good, Dr. Scalia. I can sit in a chair, too, if you need the bed." "I don't know young man." "C'mon." "Hi Connor! "Jim, just in time," Connor remarks, watching his boyfriend, Jim Faulkner, barge in. "Hi Dr. Roberts." "Hello Jim." Connor sees the flowers Jim has. "Not sure I'll be needing them Jim. I might be getting out of jail free!" "Well they weren't for you anyway, Connor. Here, Dr. Scalia." "What? For me, Jim?" "Yeah, for taking extra special care of this guy for me!" Dr. Maria Scalia, whom stopped counting her time as a doctor, after thirty years, gratefully accepted the bunch of yellow roses, giving Jim a hug. "Hmm... maybe I should keep Connor here," she joked. "Build up my flower garden!" But no sooner had she said the joke, when a victim had been rolled in, taking up the space previously occupied by Mike Finnegan. "And how are you feeling young man?" Dr. Scalia made a u-turn and addressed the man, say college aged. "My things.... are in my... car...." he replied. "Well, it's more important that you're able to speak. Looks like you have a nasty bump on that head of your's, young man." Along with a shortage of beds in the smalltown hospital, there also lacked suffient hospital gowns. The young man lay with a sheet just covering his navel, his shirt spread open. Betcha you could tell what was on the minds of Conner, Jim and Gary. The view was spectacular, to say the least! Maggie showed, cowering, "Oh there you are, Dr. Scalia. You're needed in the ER, stat!" "Do me a favor, Gary and see if you can get this young man a pitcher of water?" "No problem, Dr. Scalia." "It's Maria, dammit!" She scolded Gary, smiling on her way out. "Well, let me see if I can find some water for you." "Need my... laptop...ooooh, my head." "I'd like to help you, but I don't think that's an issue right now." Jim, helping Connor out of the bed, notices the guy not too hurt to notice the boys manuvering about. "Here, have a glass of water." "Heeeey, Gary!" "Riley?" "Yeah, how do you like that? Playing ambulance driver." As soon as another guy is brought in, they almost rip Connor's bed out from under his ass. "Good thing I have you, Jim." "Yeah, don't tell anybody but we're defecting to a motel," Jim reports to his boyfriend. "Oh no you're not." Snagged by Dr. Roberts! "Oh come on Dr. Roberts. Connor's okay." "Hmm... don't blame you for not wanting to hang out in a chair here. Maybe I should mind my own business." So, Gary goes back to his 'new patient'. "So it's okay Dr. Roberts?" He starts singing the tune, 'Yes, We Have No Bananas', substituting the words, 'Yes, I don't see no nothing... I see no nothing today...' The two boys laugh and skidaddle outta there! "That's... nice of you... to do for the kids..." "They're nice kids and I know they'll be fine. Besides, there's only one motel in town. I'll know where to find them. So, what's your name?" "Zach Roberts." "Heeeey, we got the same last name!" "I know." "Oh?" "I heard the other doctor call you that." "Oh, in pain, but learning names, huh?" "Well, I kind of knew anyway, because you look like my dad." "What? Your dad?" "I know you two didn't get along, but you're not the only one, Uncle Gary." Gary almost sat on the arm of the fellow in the opposite bed, when he learned of the news. "Wait a minute. My brother only had one son." "Steve, right?" "Yeah, and his son's name was Steve-junior." "Zachary is my middle name. That's what I go by." "You.... you're him?" Mike shows. "Gary, you alright? You look like you've seen a ghost!" "Mike.... um this kid here... this is Zach Roberts." "Heeey, he's got the same last name," Mike says, smiling. "And it's no coincidence, either." "Oh? How's that go?" "This is my brother's kid." "Hmm, didn't even know you had a brother. Nice to meet you Zach." "Nice to meet you...ouch! Mike." "Sorry about that. Sore hand?" "A little. Hurt it trying to get the seatbelt off." "Yeah, that was some pile up." "D'ya know what happened?" Gary asks. Before Mike could answer, Zach cut in, "some bitch went right through the stop sign, cut off this truck, who swerved to miss her and plowed right into the side of me." "Oh? That was you?" >From the next bed over, another guy looks over as Mike and Gary open up the pathway between the two beds. "I'm sorry. It was either hitting you or the two guys on the bike." Zach suddenly didn't mind at all. For the looks of the guy in bed next to him, he wouldn't mind kissing his laptop goodbye! "Hey. Not a problem. Um, cars can be replaced. People can't." "I'll pay you back every penny to fix up your car. I know them fancy European cars are expensive." "Um, I've got insurance," Zach replies. "You tell me if they don't pay all of it. I can pay you a little at a time, okay?" "Well, looks like you guys are going to be alright," Gary reports, "Um, Mike, I've got something for you to do." "Uncle Gary, can we talk again sometime?" "Sure, Zach. In fact, when they release you, come stay with me until you figure out what you're going to do." "Oh, I know already, Uncle Gary. I'm going to West Richland Community College." "Oh? And what's so special there?" "The Science program." "Hey, are you a science major?" The voice from the opposite bed bellows across the room. "Yes." "Me too!" Gary and Mike can see it's time to bow out. Let the two young men have some quality time together. So, closing the door behind them, they enter the hallway. "Mike, interested in going home?" "No." Gary informs Mike Finnegan, "Well, I don't mean to the 'orphange'." "I don't have anyplace else but there. You see, I'm a loner. I don't have anybody but myself." "Well, Mike, you and I have gotten to know each other pretty well, don't you think?" "Um, yeah. You've been real nice to me Dr. Roberts." "Then how about I steal you away from that orphange for the weekend?" "You mean it?" "Sure." "If you can arrange it. Oh man that would be so cool not to have to go back there!" Gary and his lover could see Mike Finnegan's spirits lift immediately. Suddenly the door to the hospital room that Mike formerly occupied, open. "We're ready, Uncle Gary." "Zach, what the hell--eck do you think you're doing?" "I know we're not exactly dressed well, but Noah and I are ready to leave this place." Gary, as well as the two Mike's, stood there, gazing at the two jocks, Noah, without a shirt, had the sheet dressed over his chest like a toga. Zach, half unbuttoned shirt, with some tears in the upper sleeve, very revealing of his biceps. "Dr. Roberts, what's the meaning of this?" "Oh, Dr. Scalia, these boys say they're fit enough to leave." "Hmm... good! We need the beds! Go get signed out and don't come back!" The feisty old doc ran back out to the lobby, as the two barely legally dressed bys and the other three laughed off the scene that just unraveled. Of course, those that were into the male of the species, enjoyed looking at the half covered chests, one half dark-haired, the other mostly smooth with a small patch of blonde showing. "C'mon, let's get you boys all signed out." "Um, Zach said you wouldn't mind if I went back to your place, instead of my apartment. At least for a while?" Gary rolled his eyes, but gave the okay. % "I don't believe the vintage bikes you've got here, Shigeta. A 2003 Ducati M600? 2002 Harley-Davidson FLHTPI? 1990 Honda VFR? 2003 Mogu V10? What happened to this Yamaha?" "Oh, the XV1700A? Got it cheap." "Doesn't look too old." "2004. Yeah, the former owner ran it off a cliff." "Um, don't suppose it set you back too much, then, huh Shigeta?" "Nah, on account of I got it dirt cheap from the estate sale. One dollar... hee heeee!" For enemies, the two bikers got along pretty good. In fact, when Karl lingered over the next bike, Hiro leaned his arm on the cop's shoulder, chewing on a toothpick. "So, Shigeta, how much is it going to set me back to restore this baby?" "Same as all the others." "1982 Triump Hotrod bike? Ya gotta be shittin' me." "Counting the four grand I put into it, it's worth a lot more than that, but any bike here goes for the same price." "That's impossible, Shigeta. The Triumph is worth more than some of these others." "Nope. One price." Hiro moves over and rests against a work table. "Okay, what's the price?" "When's your next vacation?" "Huh?" "Or let me put it, the next time you can arrange to take a month off." "Month? You're a fuckin' lunatic, Shigeta!" "Okay. Never mind. C'mon, I'll take you out back and show you the tricycles." "Tricycles?" "Yeah. I still have the one Ken'ichi rode when he was three years old." "Hey, I didn't come here to play games Shigeta, so spell it out or take me back home." "Hee heee... guess I didn't mention that your ride here was a one way fare." "Stop lead me around, Shigeta. What do you want for the bike and don't shit me." "Okay here's the deal. One month vacation for you and I to take a trip on our bikes." "Trip?" "Yeah. Travel around the northwest, see the country. You and me get to know one another." "Me? And You? Hell no! I just want the bike. I ain't askin' for a relationship." "Okay. No problem. Cost you fifty bucks to haul your ass home." "Fifty bucks?" Karl turned, scratched his head, then turned back to Hiro. "So, why me?" "I like tough cops. Besides, I'm protecting my cousin's ass." "His ass?" "Oh come off it, Karl. Maybe you thought you could hide it, but I got buds who'll attest to your raping that kid's ass." "I never touched your cousin." Karl knows the story, but stalls, hoping Hiro didn't get the gist of the whole truth. "I'm not talking about my cousin. 'Talking about that college boy in New Mexico that you stopped for speeding." Karl stood there, hands on his hips, frustration on his face. "Okay, what do you want?" "You pick out the bike you want to ride on our trip, arrange the month's vacation and we take off." "That's it. Then we return and go our separate ways?" "That's the deal.... except." "I knew it! Okay, what's the catch, Shigeta?" "For one month you're my submissive." "Fuckin' forget it... here..." Karl opens his wallet and takes out some cash. "Here's the fifty... let's get the fuck outta here!" Hiro takes the fifty. They jump on his motorcycle and head on out from whence they came. As they ride on through the pine-studded path, Karl takes in the wonderful air. He also like's the feel of having his arms around a 'real' man. Hiro feels a tap on the shoulder. "Pull over!" Karl yells out. Hiro slows, then cuts off on the shoulder of the desolate road. "What's the matter?" "Just what does being your submissive entail?" "Anything I tell you to do. But don't worry. I play safe and sane." "Spell it out, Hiro." "That would be 'Master Hiro' and if you want to discuss it, we can talk it over over a beer." "Yeah, okay." % "That's weird." "What is Barry?" "I just got a call from West Richland Memorial. Remember that kid we brought in?" "Yeah, um, Freddie." "Frankie, Steve." "Oh yeah, Frankie. What about him?" Barry had taken the call on his cellphone. He and Steve, at Alonzo's apartment, had brought some boxes, to help pack. "Gary Roberts had been in to see him. Seems that nobody at the hospital is too keen on handling a kid that has these clairvoyant insights." "Well, Barry, it kind of gives me the heebie-jeebies, too!" Steve replies. Alonzo alludes to, "Geez, Steve. It's like you think he's from another planet." "Yeah, well, it's downright creepy that a kid sees what's happening before it happens. Hey, wait a minute!" Steve stands as if he has made an important discovery. "I'm almost afraid to ask, Steve," Barry ventures forth. "I wonder if he can predict the stock market?" Alonzo acts like Steve isn't even there, asking Barry, "So what did Gary say about Frankie, Barry?" "Killjoy!" Steve calls out, still ignored. "Seems that Frankie had been calling for me." Steve kids, "Maybe he thought you were his teddy bear." "Um, Alonzo?" "Yes, Barry?" "Would you hand me the duct tape, please?" "Nooooo... I'll be good," Steve replies, like a little kid. "So, Barry?" "Yeah, Alonzo, so Frankie starts calling out my name, saying that he wants 'me'." "Hmm.. weird." "Yeah, so Gary seems to think that he relates to me from when Steve and I brought him into the ER. The Wades didn't have any other family." "Are you saying the kid wants to stay with you?" "I don't know, Alonzo. In all possibilities, if the kid can see the future, who knows." "What about the older brother?" "That's another thing. Even though the doctors hadn't given him much hope, Frankie says that Bill is going to pull through. He does mention that he will have some disabilities." "Oh man. That sucks." "Steve, that's the first meaningful thing you've said all day." "Well it does," Steve suddenly becomes more responsive, in the serious frame of mind. " So, as fate would have it, Barry, Steve and Alonzo load up Steve's truck and then head for the hospital. % "Callan, are you busy?" "Not at the moment, Dr. Scalia." "You look very tired." "I am, but never tired for you Dr. Scalia." "Listen, as you know we need every bed that we can get our hands on." "Don't I know it. I feel so bad for that lady they brought in. I think she's a mother to those two little boys." "Callan, I know that things get down trodden sometimes, but we've got to keep a stiff upper lip." "Thanks Dr. Scalia. Did I ever tell you that you're like a mother to me?" "I'd hardly think so at your age Callan. Figured I'd be more of a great-granny to you!" "Oh, I bet you have tons of spunk left in you, Dr. Scalia." "Hafto! On days like today." "What would you like help with, Dr. Scalia?" "A ten year old. Frankie Wade is being released. I need you to stay with him til he's picked up." "Oh, it'll be my pleasure." "I figured. I've seen you and Catherine and how good you are with children." "Dr. Scalia, you've been so good to Catherine and I since our parents passed away. I don't know you if you know how much your kindness has been appreciated." "Well, I just hope my cookin' didn't give you too much gastritis!" "Hee heeee... you're a good cook, Dr. Mom!" "Ooooh, aren't you the sweetest, Callan." "I'll see to Frankie for you. Don't worry." "Thanks, hon!" Like Dr. Maria Scalia, whom most think she's over sixty, but looks and acts like a forty-five year old, peals out after the situation is handled. "Hi Callan." "Hey sis," Callan's twenty-three year old twin greets him. "How's the hand?" "No bad. Look, I can still do signing... ouch!" "Hee hee.. what's 'that' word?" "I think it's a cross between damn and it!" "Still tender huh?" "Yes. Um, Callan, I was wondering if you wouldn't mind solo for dinner tonight?" "Hot date, Catherine?" "Yeah." "Same one?" "Yes." "Getting lucky are you?" Catherine O'Meara turns pink as she fesses up to her brother, "Well, yes. She's a very lovely woman." "How quaint, coming from your lips, sis." "Listen porcupine head," Catherine refers to Callan's blonde, spiked coif, "she's a very nice person and I like her a lot." "And her feelings?" "I think she's feeling mutually the same." "Well, we'll talk more about this later, sis. I've gotta get Frankie ready to vamoose." "Ooooh, the kid's leaving?" "Yeah, sorry." "Man, Callan. Wish we had a little brother like Frankie." "I know you two got a long great. Maybe even more than you and I?" "See you later Callan." Callan and Catherine smiled at each other, going their separate ways. % "Hello, care for a soda or something?" "Nah. No thanks." Ken'ichi sat there in the wheelchair, waiting. He wasn't sure whom he waited for. His 'wonderful', 'great', 'loving' cousin, Hiro was supposed to be there for him, but where in kingdom come was he? He wasn't sure if Sean really wanted to see him again, even though he gave him the line about really caring about him. "You're the Richards kid, aren't you?" "Yeah." "I'm Officer Sanchez." "I know." "You do, do you?" "Yeah. Says it right there on your badge." "Oh yeah. It does, doesn't it?" Ken still sat there, not too punky, feeling low. Riley Sanchez again picks Ken's brain, asking, "How are you feeling overall?" "Like shit." "Do you need some aspirin or something?" "A shot of Jack Daniels would be more like it." "It's not going to help that attitude, if that's what you're aiming to fix?" "Hey, I know you're a cop and I have lots of respect for the law, but I don't need any Dr. Bob mind-fixituppers, so leave me alone, please?" "Hey, sorry. I'm backin' off man. Just thought I'd see if you need anything." Riley finishes his little bag of peanut M&M's, crunches the bag up and goes over to the garbage can to dispose of it. Ken's eyes are looking up only enough to catch the rear view. Turning back, his eyes dive into his lap. Riley approaches the vending machine once more. After depositing his eighty-five cents, he presses the button for another M&M's, plain this time. "Dammit!" Ken looks up and sees the officer cursing at the computerized machine. Next Riley walks over to the doorway and looks all around outside. Coming back in, he places both hands at the top of the machine and starts it rocking. The package wouldn't fall out of the little row. "Dammit!" Suddenly the machine jumps from side to side, the little tan package falling into the chute. "Ouch!" "What're you trying to do? Kill yourself?" Ken had taken a rolling leap in his wheelchair, both feet out straight and broadsided the vending machine. "You got your M&M's, so?" "Hmm... suppose you want something in return then, huh Ken?" "Nope. I don't operate that way. Never ask for favors back." "Hmm.... just the same. I wouldn't feel right, you almost getting killed over a package of M&M's and I didn't rightly pay you back." Ken wondered why this older guy, a cop no less, played up being nice to him. Still, he kind of liked his moxie. Maybe he'd play along for awhile. "Yeah, okay. How about that JD?" "Can you walk? Be kind of tough reaching the bar from there." "Might be able to. Can you give me a hand?" % "Frankie?" "Hello Mr. Barr. Thanks for coming." "I think you know Mr. Clark and this is Mr. Romano." "Hi." "I understand you've been asking for me?" Barry and Steve payed close attention to Frankie. However, Alonzo's eyes kept an angle towards the blonde whom held the reins on the wheelchair. "Do you remember that I saw everything before it happened?" "Yes, I do, Frankie." "I don't want to be a burden, but I got this feeling..." "Go ahead, Frankie." Barry knelt down in front of the ten year old, his hand on the youth's. Like a can opener, he kept on prying the lad's mouth open for information. "Can I? Would I?" "Yes, you can." "Are you seeing what I'm seeing, Barry?" "Let's just say that I've seen what you've seen." "Ahem! Barry?" Steve asks, confused. Barry gets up. "Excuse me a moment, Frankie." "Sure, Barry." Barry coaxes Steve towards the other side of the room. "Barry, what's this all about?" "I wasn't sure until just now Steve. Seems that I've had this feeling, ever since yesterday... a very strong feeling that Frankie.... um... let's see," Barry scratches his head. "A feeling that Frankie belongs with us." "Belongs?" "Yeah, it's totally weird, but the connection feels so, so strong Steve. I really can't explain it." "Um, do you think the kid's putting these weird vibrations in your head?" "No, Steve. These are 'my' feelings. Just like feelings that I love you. They are 'gut' feelings!" "Hmm... I don't know, Barry." "Steve, do you trust me?" "You know I do, babe." "Then please go with me on this one?" "Hey, Barry. You don't have to go and get all bent out of shape. If you say this is it - then I'll got for it too." "Thanks, Steve." "Yeah, well if we had some privacy, I'd show you my true feelings." "I know babe. Give me your hands." "My hands, Barry?" "Just do it." "Okay." "There." "Hmm... felt like you gave me a peck on the cheek!" "Love doesn't mean always saying it." "Yeah... okay." Meanwhile, Alonzo had crouched down, along with Callan, keeping Frankie entertained. Frankie had an entertaining thought of his own. "How's it going?" Alonzo says, "Great, Barry. Frankie just gave us some great news." "Huh? What's that, Alonzo?" Steve asks. "From his mouth comes the thought that Callan and I should think about dating to see if we might have some things in common." "Callan?" Barry asks. "Yes, this is Callan O'Meara." Alonzo introduces the twenty-three year old Irishman to the couple of dads. "I think I saw you the other day in the ER, Callan?" "Yes, I brought in a young college student." "Right. Ken'ichi Kitajima-Richards," Steve offers. "Do you know Ken?" "My son, Sean, does," Steve replies. "Oh, then I have to say congratulations. If it wasn't for Sean, Ken wouldn't be in the land of the living." "He told us Ken was beaten up pretty badly." "Yes, but he bounced back pretty well." In the mean time, while Steve and Callan are chatting, Barry is quizzing both Frankie and Alonzo. A whole lot is not being accomplished by talking away there in the hospital waiting room, so Barry decides to scoot. "Callan, it's nice to meet you," Steve extends his cordiality, as well as Barry. On the other hand, Alonzo replies, "Let's get together soon, shall we?" "Sure. I get off in about five... no, three minutes to be exact." "Great. Care for some supper? Um, you don't mind Barry and Steve, do you?" Barry wondered if Steve had the same thoughts that Alonzo seemed to be in an awful hurry to get things moving between himself and Callan. "Um, no objections from me. Steve?" "No problem." So, the four men and Frankie lit out of the hospital, headed in the direction of Silly Lane. % "So, why the special interest?" "Hmm?" "I know for a fact you weren't on a hunger binge when you came into the waiting room." Riley sat there, across from Ken, as they sipped their cocktails. "I guess I could be considered, 'obvious', huh?" "Yeah, figured a big tough cop like you, picking on a four ounce bag of M&M's wasn't justice when you should be eating a thick juicy stake." "Alright, I'll confess. You probably don't recognize me, but I had been the police officer when Jacq and Sean found you on the side of the road." "Yeah. Okay. So that still doesn't answer my question." "Listen. Don't get mad at Sean. I pried into his affairs and found out what happened to you." "Sean told you?" "Hey, don't get upset with him." "But I told him this in confidence." "Yeah and he told me this in confidence as well. I'm not putting it into a report." "That's not the point." "I know Ken. You divulged something to Sean that was supposed to remain a tryst between you two." "Okay. So I can deal with that. What else?" "Yeah, alright. I didn't happen upon you in the waiting room. In fact I rarely eat candy." "Didn't seem like you had any problem putting down those two sacks of candy." "Does this body look wasted?" Ken didn't mind eyeing up the shirt when Riley flashed his body, pulling his coat open. "You look fit to me." "Yeah, well I work out." "So, c'mon what else here?" "Ken, what happened to you is not something uncommon." "I didn't think it was. I'm sure there's plenty of families where guys get beat up just because they're gay." "Yep. I should know. Like you, it wasn't an easy life." "You?" "Yeah. My old man figured if I didn't stop being gay, he could beat it out of me." "Damn, I'm sorry Riley." "So, how long were you putting up with your old man, Ken?" "Didn't Sean tell you?" "About?" "Y'know. Family life." "No. He only told me about the incident that landed you in the hospital." "Oh. Well, there's not much to tell. I took some beatings when I was fifteen, then we moved here and they stopped. One day I try to do something decent and he hauls off and whips me. That's it. What about you?" "Me? Like you, I revealed my gay sexuality. Only the beatings began when I was sixteen. My old man and I had been the only family we each had. Sometimes it had been once a week, sometimes twice. Other times when he caught me masturbating. Sometimes I think that I did it on purpose." "Did what?" "Let him catch me masturbating of looking at pictures of men in magazines. Almost like I had to prove that I could stand up to him and blast out loud my sexuality." "Like defiance, Riley?" "Yeah, that's it. I think I started to feel that when he beat me, I had to take it because I was gay. That make any sense?" "I'm not sure. I'm no shrink." "Doesn't matter now I guess." "Sure it does." "Yeah? You think so?" "Of course. If it didn't mean anything than there wouldn't be a reason why you're sitting here, drinking that Jack Daniels and talking with me." Ken began opening up more with every bit of conversation that ventured forth from their lips, concerning their plights of gay sexuality and their relationships to their dads. "Ken?" "Yeah?" "I never had a chance to do anything about it." "In reference to?" "I took the beatings. I never had anyone to talk to. My old man scared me into not saying anything to anyone and I was a dumb kid to listen to his reasoning. I ran away from home and when I thought about finally doing something, it had become pase." "I don't get it." "Sean, by the time confessed my thoughts to a shrink and he advised me on how to release my tension over my thoughts, he was dead." "Oh." "Ken, I couldn't do anything about it, but you can." "Yeah?" "Ken, I don't know what you're feeling now, but later you will have problems. Please think about filing a police report." "What? So you can feel better about catching every father that beats their sons, huh? That make you feel better, Riley?" "Ken, why are you being some damn stubborn. Hell if I care what I get out of this. You think all I care about is myself? Fuck! Gotta take a piss." Riley got up, slightly perturbed on the subject and left Ken there at the table alone. Ken filed through his thoughts, thinking that maybe Riley 'was' being a nice guy. Sure, he had been pissed at Sean for giving away secrets. He also had in the back of his mind that his cousin deserting him. But then this dude comes along, seemingly caring about him. Did he want to take another chance and trust this guy? When Riley's jon priviledges seemed to expire past the limit, Ken decided that had ticked the guy off long enough. He happened on the cop in the hallway. "Hey Ken, look..." "Nah, listen, Riley I kind of got fed up with everything and was taking it out on you." "No, I think you are right about me wanting to get even at my dad, by making sure that every father 'pays' for beating up their kid." "Still, I think I could've been more understanding. I'm sorry." "Okay, but I'd still like to talk about it." "Oh sure," Ken replied, not sure of exactly what he was getting into. "Why don't we meet up tomorrow. I want to go home and get out of these clothes. Where can I drop you?" Ken thought about it. For sure he didn't want to get dropped off at home. Secondly, he didn't know where else. He figured it out. "Is the dorm too far?" "Um, no, but I thought you said you lived at home?" "I did... I do.. I mean I live there when I'm not in the dorm." "Oh, I see. Okay, the dorm it is," even though Riley had his suspicions about the truth of the matter! So, taking the patrol car, Riley sped out to West Richland Community College. Ken actually got a kick out of Riley explaining the guts of the vehicle. "So you staying in Griffin Hall or Rutlege?" "Griffin." Taking the twists and turns around the campus, the patrol car drove into the culdesac. "Well, thanks for the ride, Riley." "No problem, Ken." "And the drink." "My pleasure. Um, Ken?" "Yeah, Riley?" "Are you sure you're going to be okay?" "Sure. I'll be fine." "Okay, well I'll be seeing you around." Riley takes off, leaving Ken walking towards the door of Griffin Hall. He doubles around behind the registrar building. Locking up and leaving his patrol car, he sneaks back around the building, as if on the prowl for a thief. Sure enough, looking across the green, he sees a figure sitting on a bench, his back faced towards himself. "Nice evening, isn't it?" "Oh shit Riley! You scared the hell outta me! What're you doing here?" "Checking up on you?" "Checking up on me?" "Yeah. Making sure you got inside okay." "I thought I would get some fresh air." "Oh, I figured there would be another reason?" "Yeah and what would that be?" "Well, for the fact that Griffin Hall is a girl's dormitory." "Oh." Ken stood there, hands on his hips, most embarrased that he's been had. "Now, let me guess. Other than your own home, you don't have anyplace else to go?" "Okay, so you're right." "Hey, everything alright here?" A passing security guard notices the badge talking to the jock. "Everything's fine. Just having a chat with a friend." "Okay. Sorry to bother you." After the guard leaves, Riley lays it on the line, "Look Ken, if you need a place to stay, I've got an extra room. My brothers, Estefan and Jason are in and out, so it's not like I'll try anything on you." "Oh, I trust you, Riley. You've already done enough for me." "What have I done for you? Bought you a drink? You've done more for me." "Yeah, got the M&M's out of the vending machine that you don't need." "So, what'll it be?" "Yeah. Okay." So, trekking back across the grassy atrium, the two head back 'round the registrar's building. % Time for an M&M break.... continued........ Copyright 2005 T.
