"Spear the Spartans" was painted in black, and four long spears dripping blood illustrated the point. Several more banners with equally rousing sayings were spaced the length of the corridor. "That's crazy," Nick laughed, looking toward Alex. "First big football game! Are we going to go?" Nick had to admit he was interested. He'd heard that the "Red Raiders" taking on the "Sparta Spartans" was likely to be one of the better games of the season. "Are you taking Brianna?" he grinned. Alex blushed. "We're sorta going to meet at the game." "So when you just asked me if we were going, you were looking for a way to get your mom to say `yes'." Alex looked like a four year old caught with his hand in the cookie jar. "Well, I thought maybe if it was your idea to go, it would help. Then, when the time was right, I'd leave you sitting on your ass alone." Alex chuckled. "Nice, real nice!" Nick said, shaking his head. "Well, you kinda owe me. The last time you were with Daniel I had to hang with Jeremy for hours. I mean he's fun to be with and all, but after a while it gets old." Alex paused, and then apparently decided to try another angle. "I bet if you asked Daniel he'd say that he'd like to watch the game." The guys were nearing the art room. "I'll think about it," Nick said, turning to go inside. "We can talk some more tonight." Alex nodded and headed toward his gym class. * * * * Nick had an open period on his schedule due to some mix up in the office. As a result he had to choose an elective class to fill the spot. Art was available. "How's your drawing coming along?" Mr. Dempsey asked as Nick pulled several large panels from a hard sided folio. "Not too bad," Nick said with an uncertain look and lifted the corner to show his progress. Mr. Dempsey stopped at Nick's table, lifted the sheet and gave it a long look. "Did you take drawing in middle school?" Nick shook his head, "No, I was in Music Appreciation." "This is very good work. It's expressive, well composed, and very creative in subject matter. You need some work on your technique, but you show a lot of promise." Nick looked down. "I sketch sometimes, but I've never shown it to anyone." Mr. Dempsey laid the work back on the table. "Do you like drawing?" Nick blushed, "It's mostly fantasy stuff, but yeah, I like it." "If you like something it's worth spending a little time on. If you'd like help after class, please let me know." Nick moved his head ever so slightly. "Thanks." * * * * Alex finished the last of his algebra homework and stuffed the papers he'd been working on into the middle of the textbook, then pushed the book to the side. "Nine thirty," he thought, glancing at the clock, "almost time for bed." Alex found that with his particular class schedule, Thursdays seemed to be the days that he ended up with the most work. "This bites," he said softly when he realized that there wasn't much time left to do anything fun. He was barefoot, in his boxers, and was wearing a Tony Hawk T-Shirt. He looked around his room and sighed. He got up from the desk and headed down the hall to see Nick. "Sup?" Alex asked as he walked in without knocking. Nick was also studying. He was propping his head up, his elbow on the desk and his hand supporting his chin. He was reading an English Literature text. He too was in boxers with a plain navy blue T. "English class sucks," he said with a groan. Alex chuckled. "And not in a fun kind of way!" Nick smiled. "So what about the game tomorrow?" Nick turned in his seat. "I want to go, but here's the deal," he said, looking at the floor for a second. "If I sit with Daniel, I'm worried that somebody might start wondering. You know, like what he's doing there?" Alex sat down on Nick's bed. "Yeah," he said softly. It was quiet for a moment. "Maybe you're worrying for no reason! Do you really think people will think that because you're sitting together you guys are doing it?" Nick seemed to think it over. "You might be right." "So, you'll go?" Nick's face moved from serious to playful. "Sure, why not?" Alex grinned. "I'll call Brianna and tell her it's all set." His smile grew wider. He playfully rubbed the front of his shorts. "Talking about things that suck," he giggled. Nick rolled his eyes and shook his head, "Nah, uh," not tonight. Alex sighed, a look of disappointment on his face. "Well, it was worth a try." Nick giggled. "Look at it this way. Think of all the fun you're going to have teaching Brianna how to do that." Alex's face brightened and he grinned. * * * * Mr. Carson dropped the boys off at the entrance to the stadium field twenty minutes before the game. "Damn, your mom wouldn't budge an inch this time!" Nick complained as he and Alex walked toward the gate, school passes in hand. "I mean, would it have hurt for her to have given us an hour or two to hang out after it's over?" "The game won't end until almost ten; I guess she thinks that's late enough." "So much for you going to the dance with Brianna," Nick teased. "Mom said she'd think about it for next time," Alex said, flashing his card to the attendant. "I have a feeling she wants to have `the talk' with me first." Nick laughed. As they walked along the sidelines, Nick scanned the crowd, but couldn't catch a glimpse of Daniel. Alex on the other hand found Brianna fairly quickly. "You're on your own, dude," Alex grinned and hurried off. "Keep your hands to yourself!" Nick said loudly. Alex turned, grinned, and flipped him a finger. Nick found a spot three quarters of the way to the top of the stands. Fans from both teams were using the portable bleachers usually reserved for the visiting team. The main stadium seating, on the other side of the field, wasn't used for high school games. The band was playing loudly. The cheerleaders were whipping the students up into a frenzy, and the smell of popcorn filled the air. It was festive, fun, and the cool night air added to the excitement. Nick watched as both teams went through their warm up exercises, ran a few plays, and got ready. He almost missed seeing Daniel walk through the gate. The instant he saw him, he stood up and waved. "Here!" Nick yelled, and waved both hands. Daniel spotted him and made his way up. "You're here alone?" Daniel asked, sitting down next to Nick. "Alex is over there!" Nick nodded to a spot where Alex and Brianna sat staring at one another. "Do you think they'll actually see any of the game?" "No," Nick chuckled. Daniel smiled. "Thanks for inviting me!" Nick gave Daniel a wink. Every once in a while Nick would giggle, lean close, and whisper in Daniel's ear. It was usually along the lines of "I'd fuck his butt hole," with a glance in the direction of a football player or maybe a student. "You like the muscle guys?" Daniel asked softly, making sure know one was watching or listening. Nick grinned. "Well I wouldn't mind taking one for a test drive," he laughed. The Spartans managed to take the win by a score of twenty one to fourteen. It was a well played game and both sides seemed pleased with their performance. "It's early in the season," Daniel offered when Nick gave him a disappointed look. Nick had practically forgotten about Alex as they watched the game. Now that it was over he looked for him again. "Did you see that?" Nick laughed, poking Daniel with an elbow. "See what?" Nick pointed, "Alex kissed her!" Daniel laughed, "He did?" Nick giggled, "Yeah, but it was just one of those quickie ones!" "Well, you have to start somewhere," Daniel chuckled. Nick couldn't stop smiling. "Thanks for coming with me tonight," he said gently. "I wouldn't want to be anyplace else." * * * * Nick was walking toward the bathroom late that evening just as Alex was leaving it. "Needed to pee?" Nick smiled as Alex stopped in the doorway. "Yeah, getting ready for bed." Alex was just in his boxers. His firm smooth chest and tight stomach stood out, drawing attention to his athletic build. He was barely 140 pounds, but the effects of puberty were taking hold. He was getting muscles in all the right places. "I saw you kiss Brianna," Nick chuckled. Alex smiled, apparently rather proud of himself. "Yeah, pretty cool, huh?" "Well, like Daniel said, `it's a start'" Nick laughed softly. There was an awkward moment as both seemed to run out of things to say. "Well, goodnight," Alex said softly. Nick nodded and started through the bathroom door. He glanced down and saw the tent that Alex was making in his underwear. He looked Alex in the eyes. "Looks like Brianna left you with a little problem." Alex blushed, "Yeah." "When I'm done in here, want me to stop by your room?" Alex's face lit up. "You'd do that?" Nick gave Alex a playful look. "I'm fifteen and like guys, it's not like I wouldn't have some fun too." Alex smiled. "Well, hurry up then," he giggled. * * * * Nick shook the last drop of pee off the end of his dick and tucked it back into his boxers. He pushed the handle and flushed, watching the swirl of water as it circled the bowl. He stepped to the counter and reached for his toothbrush. "Might be a good idea," he thought, putting a line of toothpaste on it. He brushed for a couple of minutes, rinsed, and wiped his mouth off on a towel. "Ready to suck some dick?" he asked himself as his penis firmed a bit. He smiled at himself in the mirror. "You little slut!" he giggled. His cock firmed a bit more. By the time he reached his hand into his pants he was fully hard. * * * * The lights were off when Nick walked into Alex's bedroom. The drapes were open and the soft light from a distant street light streamed in and settled on the far wall. Alex was lying on his bed with his hand in his pants. "Hey," Nick whispered, stepping through the door, shutting it and pushing the button to lock it. "Hey," Alex replied softly. Nick walked to the side of the bed and looked down. Alex looked up at him. Both smiled. Nick got to his knees and rested his hands on Alex's chest. They looked at one another for a moment longer. "I just brushed my teeth," Nick chuckled, "so your little guy should be happy." Alex laughed. "He'll be happy no matter what!" Nick softly rubbed the front of Alex's underwear and paused to cup his nut sack. "Hold on as long as you can, Okay?" he whispered. Alex nodded. Nick tugged at the waistband of Alex's boxers and pulled them down just far enough to get at his cock. He stroked it twice and then leaned over. He opened his mouth and Alex lifted up and slid the head between Nick's lips. Nick could taste the salty residue of his recent pee, but everything else was clean. He slurped, licked, and went to work. "Oh fuck," Alex moaned softly as Nick tenderly licked his shaft from balls to tip. He wiggled his tongue against the pee slit, and then swirled it around the pink head several times. Nick felt Alex thrusting, so put his free hand on the boy's pelvis and pushed down, hinting that he should stop. Alex got the message, but held his hands firmly on Nick's head, holding his mouth down over his crotch. The soft wet sound of sucking, slobbering, and licking was all that could be heard except for the occasional grunt or groan. Nick kept busy giving Alex a blow job any teen would rate as `amazing'. A couple of minutes later Nick paused, pulled off, and wiped some spit from his mouth. "How you doing?" he whispered. Alex grinned. "You're a great little cocksucker!" he teased. Nick smiled. "Okay, it's time to make you cum!" he giggled, and went back down. At the same time, Nick put his right hand into his own pants and started to stroke. Just mentioning the word `cum' apparently had given Alex an added measure of horniness. His breathing was quickening and his thrusts into Nick's mouth increased. Though Nick noticed, he was being careful to not go too deep. "Ugh, oh, shit," Alex mumbled several times as he got closer and closer. He raised up a bit more and moved Nick's head up and down. As he pumped his dick further into the kid's mouth, Nick sucked harder. Alex grunted again. "Here it comes," he groaned and shoved his dick all the way in. Nick started to gag, but recovered. He slurped hungrily, and seconds later felt three hot spurts hit the back of his throat. "Oh fuck, oh fuck," Alex grunted, raising his ass all the way off the bed and pushing Nick's head firmly between his legs. He thrust his dick deep into the warm hole of Nick's mouth and then shuddered. His climax overpowering him. Nick stroked himself faster and harder, and just as he took the second swallow of Alex's juice, he too squirted. He gulped, sucked, and closed his eyes as he shot his own load into his underpants. Alex thrust in and out a couple of more times and then dropped his ass back down onto the bed and rocked Nick's head softly as if to say, `now clean it all up'. A minute or two later, Nick pulled his mouth off Alex's cock. He wiped the last of the cum off his lips, and looked into his friend's eyes. "Pretty good, huh?" Nick smiled. Alex grinned. "The best! Did you get off?" "Yeah," Nick giggled, "I'll need some clean undies before bed." Alex giggled. "Thanks, Nick," he whispered. "You're welcome," Nick smiled, and then giggled. * * * * Late the next afternoon, Nick found himself alone in the house. It was one of the few times that Alex and his folks had gone out without taking him along. There wasn't going to be time to meet Daniel or anything like that, and he actually liked the idea of having some time to himself. He pulled the sketch pad out from its hiding place under his bed, found his color pencils and charcoal, and settled in the family room. Nick opened the pad and went to work refining the outline of an idea that he had come up with after one of his dreams. He decided this piece would all be done in pencil and charcoal, no color. He used the edges of the pencil, the rough charcoal, and his fingers to tease the image out of the page. Slowly it started to take shape. The helmet was the most difficult, followed closely by the shape and angles of the armor. As he drew, calm settled over him. It was as if the image of the knight held some kind of magic. Nick felt safer, more secure. The dragon was at bay. "I hope Daniel likes it," Nick thought as he worked. * * * * Nick was in his room finishing his homework. It was still early, but he wanted to watch his favorite TV show, and homework had to be done before television was allowed. The phone rang, but Nick figured it would be for someone else. Alex yelled from downstairs for him to "Pick up the phone! It's Mitch!" "Hey," Nick said cheerily, but a little part of him was worried that something had happened to his mom. "Hi," Mitch chuckled, "how are you doing?" "Good," Nick said with a little smile. "The reason I called was that I wondered if we could spend some time together on Saturday? There are some things I've been thinking about. You know, about your mom and all." "There's nothing wrong is there?" Nick hoped Mitch wasn't going to run out on his mom. He knew that would probably cause her to start drinking again. "No, nothing's wrong." Mitch chuckled. "I know a place by the river where we can toss in a line, fish for a little while." "Sounds great!" The little knot of tension in Nick's stomach eased. They talked for a few minutes longer and then hung up. "I wonder what's going on?" Nick thought, but then brushed it off. "I guess I'll know on Saturday." * * * * The river was low, the summer heat and lack of rain in the fall had combined to put the water level nearest its lowest point all year. The sun was still warm but the cool breeze reminded Nick that it was fall. Mitch had been talkative all afternoon. Mostly the conversation had been about his work, Nick's school, and how things were going for Nick in foster care. "Your mom's starting to make plans for when she gets out of the half-way house," Mitch finally said, apparently now ready to talk about what was on his mind. "Yeah, she's told me a little about it," Nick said, wondering where this was going. Mitch was quiet for a moment. He coughed nervously, "Nick, I'm a traditional kind of guy. I mean it sounds silly, but I think there is a way of doing things." Nick was starting to get nervous, but he kept his eye on his fishing line. "What I mean to say is that when a guy wants to get married, he needs to ask the bride's father if he has permission to ask her." Nick was having trouble making sense of what Mitch was trying to say, he turned to look at him. "Your mom doesn't have a father. I guess for now, you're the man of the house." Nick's eyes grew wider. "Could I have your permission to ask your mom to marry me?" Nick's mouth fell open, and there was stunned silence. * * * * Thanks to all those that have written to offer comments and ideas.
