I am not interested. What you are offering is nothing but stripping and a hooker job .umm a high-class hooking and stripper job at best. Coach Jordan: It's not my dark secret. I am not ashamed of my work. Yes, it is secret. And I am not asking you to become a hooker or a stripper. You can still do the job of the waiter at the club which you are already doing at your minimum wage job at the burger joint. Here you will make 100 dollars per night plus generous tips that will depend upon your "performance" not to mention free drinks and you may meet all the right people which may help you in the future. Ryan: What kind of help I will get, Coach? What kind of help in your career or in your life you are getting, coach? No disrespect, but even with the help of your supposed "powerful friends" you are just a high school sports and gym teacher in this sleepy small town in the state of Tennessee. Coach Jordan: I am doing this job at the high school because I like this and also it provides a lot of stability to my life and my son. And I love this small town. But...... Ryan:[with sarcasm] But if you really wanted other things then your supposed powerful friends would have placed you at ESPN as a baseball commentator. Right? Coach Jordan: Cut the sarcasm. I never said that you are going to get a job at ESPN or you going to be next Channing Tatum. All I am saying is that this job is going to give you at least a decent income which you and your family need and whatever little bit of future support you may need in future especially after what your family has been going through for past one year or so. Ryan: [Getting a little bit agitated ]: And what exactly happened to me and my family, coach? Yes, now I am not going to be a baseball star. Yes, my father lost his job. But so what? So many people in this country fail to become the sports star which they aspired to be in their childhood. So many people lose their job but that doesn't mean that their kid becomes a hooker or a stripper in some creepy club in a creepy mansion where the guests come in some creepy hideous mask. Coach: You are making a big deal of a job which is nothing more than a job of a waiter. Rest of the thing is up to you. No one is going to force you to become a stripper or a hooker. Ryan: No thanks, Coach. I can't accept this. I can't do the job at a palace where I am not comfortable with. And what I will tell to my Mom? Coach: You don't have to tell her about it. She works in night shift and you will be back by 4 or 5 am in the morning. Besides this job is in weekends mostly. Ryan : And what about Kit? Where should I leave him? Coach: Kit is more mature than you think. Besides you already leave him alone every night till 11 PM. Ryan: Leaving him alone for the whole night is different than leaving him alone till 11 PM. Mom stays with him till 8 PM and I come back to the home latest by 10 or 11 PM. We are already sick to death for leaving him alone for a couple of hours at that time of night. In fact, my mother is insisting me to cut back my working hours. She asked me to return home latest by 8 PM. But the problem is we need the money and every dollar counts. Every extra 15 dollars per day counts. Coach: That's exactly what I am talking. I feel so sad to see you and your family struggle. I just can't see you in this condition. Ryan: Don't worry about us coach. My family will be fine. God is testing us . Coach: Really Ryan? Since when you have become religious? Ryan: Since I started going to church with my mother and Kit. You should come with us sometimes. It will also help you to cope with the pain which you have been trying to hide for the last few years . Coach Jordan went silent looking very hurt Ryan: I .... I am really sorry coach . I didn't mean to hurt you . God knows that I have nothing but respect for you. You are like my big brother [Which I never had]but you can't hide your sadness . At least not from me. I can really see through it your face. The pain you are trying to hide behind your jovial persona is very visible to me Coach Jordan : You don't have to be sorry for me Ryan. You are really mature for your age. You are only 19 and almost 10 years younger than me but on maturity level, you are the same age as me. That is why I asked you to join the club because I believed that you have the temperament to handle this job and opportunity. You are not like other teenagers. But one thing I want to tell you . No amount of bible bullshit is going to get my wife back and no amount of it is going to help to solve the financial problem of your family. Not to mention all the humiliation your family is still facing after that incident involving your father. Ryan: [Firmly] I know it coach . I know that God is not going to solve the money problem of my family . I know God is not going to bring back my father's reputation. I know that God is not goung to teach a lesson to my opportunist girlfriend, I know God is not going to remend my friendship with by best freind Phil. I know the God is not going to reunite my parents but I know that he gives me and my family the inner strength to face this test . Coach Jordan [smiled weakly]: Okay whatever makes you happy kiddo. Anyway I, think you are getting late. You can take the bicycle you were asking . Its behind my garage . Ryan: [was almost glad that the subject of their conversation has changed] : Thanks a lot coach. I will return your bicycle in a few months Coach: Mo need, you can take it . I don't need it at all Ryan : Thanks a lot coach Ryan went out and took the bicycle and started going back to his home Coach Jordan : Hey Ryan!! Take this along with you. Kit was asking for this . We met the other day. Ryan: What is this coach ? Coach : It is just old DVDs of some Ducktales cartoons. My wife use to watch it and my son doesn't have much of interest in it . I casually told Kit about it and he asked me to loan him for a few days . Tell him to take this as a gift from me . I do not need it. No need to return it. Ryan:[smiled genuinely for the first time in that evening] Thanks a lot coach . But you should be really carful while talking to Kit. He can be really demanding sometimes. Coach : Actually he is not. On the contrary, he is very shy . I was actually really glad that he was open enough to ask me about these DVDs. Anyway say hi to your mom from me Ryan: Okay coach . Good night coach Coahc: Good night kiddo And think again about my offer with an open mind again Ryan : Not going to happen, coach . And the Ryan rode the bicycle towards his home Coach was looking at Ryan. Then he went inside his home . Coach Jordan was not religious but in his mind, he almost prayed that Ryan would never accept his offer. Not because the job was not good but because he saw so much hope in Ryan 's eyes. Jordan didn't want Ryan's hope to be shattered . Jordan didn't want Ryan to be disillusioned with his life But deep down coach Jordan knew that Ryan would come back and accept his offer. The similarities in their fates were drastically real. Just like Ryan , coach Jordan nearly lost everything . Only thing right now he had was his son . There were so many similarities between the lives of Ryan and Coach Jordan and not to mention their luck. Coach Jordan prayed that Ryan would not end up having the same fate like him . Jordan was not sure that God exist or not but he sure believed in luck/ fate/destiny. And he knew people cannot run away from their fate . You cannot escape form you bad luck . You have to face it.
