"Do you think instead of anymore stag nights, we could host a meal here for everyone on Friday night? Both of us would much rather celebrate with our close friends." Athol looked at me, "What do you think? Or shall we just take them both out and get them pissed?" I grinned, pleased my partner had calmed down. "Oh, I think a meal would be a nice touch." ********************** Operation Pied Piper – Part 124a – The Big Day Davy takes up the story I was sitting up in bed, crying. I didn't know why. Tomorrow was going to be the culmination of everything I ever wanted or dreamed of. Yet tonight the bed seemed so big and empty with just me in it. Where was Forts, I hear you ask? Well, we had kissed and said goodnight around two hours ago after the meal, surrounded by our family and friends. As we parted, he had taken me in his arms and told me how much he loved me and couldn't wait until tomorrow when we begin the adventure of the rest of our lives together. Even though we couldn't actually get married, we were going to have a ceremony similar to Athol and Archie, promising ourselves to each other until death we do part. I didn't think I would mind being separated for just one night. After all, we had been apart several times in the past three years. But tonight, I was really missing his warmth and smiling face. I had tried to argue against what was actually a marriage tradition, that of spending the night before the ceremony apart. But I was finding out that traditions meant a lot to Forts, so had lost that argument. I reached for the light switch, plunging the room into darkness and snuggling down under the sheets. My hands reaching out to feel the space usually occupied by Forts' gorgeous body. It was cold and empty. I felt my lip tremble again. God, why was I being so soppy? I reached for his pillow and pulled it down alongside me, snuggling myself against it. I pressed my nose into the material, gaining some comfort from the fact it smelt of him. I squeezed the pillow tighter, both crying and chuckling to myself. Who would have thought little Davy Thomas, from Nowheresville in London, would have ended up living in a Scottish Castle, meeting a gorgeous guy who seemed to be a poor abandoned orphan, but instead turned out to be a missing Russian Prince? You couldn't make it up. I kissed his pillow. How I loved him. I had been attracted to him from the first time I saw him in the showers, with that bastard Mr Finlay supervising us, while he got off seeing us all naked. Then, the next night, seeing and hearing him showing off his monumental cock to Dickins. I giggled again. It is an amazing cock. That had led me to getting a rather annoyed Forts to partner me for the castle quiz. That was when I knew I loved him more than anything, as we made love in the hayloft. Nope, it was no good, I couldn't sleep. I let go of the pillow and reached for the light. Once more, the room was illuminated. Only one o'clock still. My tunic and trousers for later were hanging up, ready for Marcus to get me dressed. Forts had asked me if I minded getting 'hitched' in tunics and smart trousers. He wanted everyone else in 'white tie and tails' or military uniforms. Milner had offered to take the photographs. He was going to do me first, and then Forts; wherever he was staying, the soppy thing wouldn't tell me. I haven't yet mentioned Forts best man, well, Forts couldn't decide, so both Prince Dima and McPhee were going to be supporting him for the day. Me? Well, I had asked Gethin, and he said yes. He said it was an amazing honour, and he was really touched to be asked. On no now, I am crying again. "Blimey." I couldn't believe it, "Err, come in." I checked the time, five past one, then quickly wiped my eyes. The door cracked open, and a face peered in. "Theodora, my goodness, come in. Is everything okay? I leapt out of bed and met her. "I am fine. I saw your light on and guessed you couldn't sleep either." I smiled, "No. I can't. Daft, huh? Come and sit on the bed with me." We both got on to the bed and slipped our legs under the covers. It didn't matter what time of the year it was, Castle Fraser was always on the chilly side. "Are you all excited?" God, she set me off again, tears rolling down my cheeks. "Oh Davy, what's wrong? Theodora hugged me. "Nothing. I am just being silly. I keep bursting into tears." She hugged me again and kissed my cheek. "Oh, you are silly. You are so lucky. I wish it was me he was marrying." I didn't say it, but she didn't know how close it came to that, what with the machinations of the old Grand Duke. I just squeezed her hand and changed the subject. "How are you feeling, anyway? You're really getting enormous now." Theodora pouted, "Well, thank you." "Oh Theodora, I didn't mean it like that. I just meant..." She cocked her head, smiling. "Yes...Just meant...?" I had to laugh, "It won't be long now." She smiled, "See, you can smile. You are a really handsome guy, Davy. Forts is as lucky as you. You were both made for each other." I felt myself blushing, "Thank you." I should have stopped there, but I didn't. "You gave us all such a fright the other night. Forts was so worried about you. I think he thought you were losing the baby." Theodora half smiled, "It gave me a bit of a fright too." Why couldn't I just shut up? I couldn't believe I was saying it. Maybe deep down, I was cleansing my soul. "I hated you when you got pregnant. I thought I was going to lose Forts because of you. You do forgive me, don't you?" She took my hand, "Of course I do. If it helps, I hated you too, and myself." I felt another tear roll down my cheek. Theodora stroked my hand, "Hey stop it, we are all friends now. You will set me off..." She continued to stroke the back of my hand, "I am expecting a dance later, too. You can dance with me and this blasted bump." She chuckled, then sighed and laid back against the pillow. "Oh Davy, I can't wait until this is over. I just want my life back!" She stroked her swollen tummy. "It won't be long now... It must be nice to have Alexandra here now though, keeping you company." "Oh, it's nice to see her. BUT, all the fussing is driving me crazy." I just smiled. "Davy, I overheard Dima and Robert talking. Is it true what Gary did the other night to Forts and everyone?" "Yes, it is." "Why didn't you tell me before? I had to trick it out of Robert." "Forts made us all promise not to tell you. He didn't want you worrying." She glanced skyward, "Hmmmm. I bet Athol was furious, though?" I chuckled, "That's you, Theodora, always the master of the understatement. Athol was actually apoplectic. I honestly thought he was going to knock Gary's teeth out. I mean, Athol has a temper at times, but that was unreal." Theodora continued, "What do you think he will do... About Gary, I mean?" "Well, that's the question. I overheard Forts and Athol speaking tonight at the meal." Theodora shuffled closer to me in the bed, "I saw that too. I wasn't sure what was going on. Both of them looked to be getting angry." I nodded, "Yes. Athol wants to send Gary away. Forts feels he should be given another chance, as no one was hurt." Theodora sighed again, "That's his only fault. Forts is too trusting. That is something you will have to help him with. He always wants to see the good in people... And some just take advantage of his good nature... What do you think should happen?" "I don't know... Luckily, I don't think I will be asked." Theodora smiled and yawned. "Oh Theodora, I am keeping you up. You need your rest. I know, why don't you sleep here with me? I think we both could do with the company." Theodora nodded, "You are sweet Davy. I haven't had a girlie sleepover for years." She smiled again, "I love you, Davy. I hope you know that?" She leant towards me and kissed me on the lips. "I love you too, Theodora." * "Wakey, wakey. Oops, excuse me. Your Highness, sorry, Theodora... Err, Davy." I laughed, "Good morning Marcus... Now you're sworn to secrecy, no telling Forts you found me in bed with Theodora." He winked, "Your secret is safe with me, Your Grace." He placed down the tray with my morning tea. "One minute, I will just get another cup." And he vanished. Through the open door, I could hear Denis's voice. "Have you seen Theodora? She is not in her room." Marcus laughed, "She is in bed with Davy!" Theodora giggled as I shouted out, "Oi, you didn't keep that secret very long!" Denis's head popped round the door. "Good morning, Your Highness, Your Grace..." He grinned, "Are you all already for your big day, Davy?" "Well..." "Good morning all. Where is the blushing bride?" Gethin bowled into the room, clutching a bottle of Champagne and three glasses. Callum was right behind him. He grinned as he saw Theodora, "I think we need some more glasses." Marcus obviously heard, calling out, "Coming right up." Gethin and Callum came over and plonked themselves on to the bed and began pouring the Champagne into the glasses. "Hey, are we invited?" It was Dima and Robert. I never got a chance to answer as Gethin waved the bottle and shouted, "Sure... Yet more glasses Marcus..." So that was the start of my morning. We all drank probably a bit too much and ended up having breakfast all together on the bed. I glanced at the clock, Theodora caught me. "Not long now and he is all yours." I nodded, and she kissed me. ** McPhee takes up the story Silently I crept into the room, hearing Forts was gently snoring, I ushered everyone into the room. They all stood in total silence. I couldn't believe I was pulling this off. I stood, trying hard not to giggle, as I watched my watch hands swing round to seven o'clock. Forts was still snoring gently on the bed. I gave a quick nod to the Band Major, as the hand of my watch hit the seven. Forts' snoring was suddenly and noisily drowned out by a rousing rendition of 'Happy Birthday to you." Forts sprung up, his eyes wildly looking round the room in total confusion, at the bandsmen, but soon seeing me too. "McPhee, you are a complete bastard! You frightened the life out of me. I nearly wet myself." He peered under the sheets, "Actually, I think I did." We both burst out laughing. I crossed to the bed, "Happy Birthday, Forts!" Forts was still shaking his head, "Thank you Chris. What time is it?" "Seven o'clock." I turned to the bandsmen, and gave them the thumbs up, "Thank you chaps." With that, they all filed out of the room. "Dima will be here at nine thirty and then we will all head to the Castle." Forts nodded, then broke into a big smile, "Chris, it's finally here. I can't believe it, today's the day." "It certainly is. Finally, you get to make an honest man out of him." * Now you all have been in on the intrigue surrounding the day, Forts had arranged for the school bus to pick up all the guests and the trumpeters and take them all to Castle Fraser, where Robert helped hide them all until the correct time. Forts showered and got himself into his legendary white tunic. The gold braid and embroidery never failed to impress anyone who saw it. Luckily, Marcus had shown me how to attach the turquoise sash, and all of his awards and the glistening diamond stars. "How do I look, Chris?" "Like a million dollars, as Dexy would say... Thinking about it, looking at all these diamonds, he is probably right." ** Athol takes up the story This was an altogether posher looking affair than Archie's and mine. Oh, we had all looked good in our dress kilts and 'Bonnie Prince Charlie' jackets. But today the men were all in 'White tie and tails' or military uniforms. It seemed so strange to be constrained by wearing trousers after so long swinging free. The celebrant for today was the same guy who conducted Archie and my ceremony. In this very place, as it turned out. He greeted Archie and me warmly. I held out my hand to introduce Drageon. "Forts, let me introduce Mr John Irvin. You have met him before. He conducted Archie and my ceremony." John thrust out his hand, "Hello again, young man. So, you're the groom today. Marvellous." Forts flashed one of his smiles, "I certainly am, hello again, John." John glanced down at his papers, "Err, which name will you be using today? Should I be calling you Your Imperial Highness?" Forts chuckled, "Well, my solicitor has told me I must use Drageon. Otherwise, it could be contested... And it is a definite no to calling me Your Imperial Highness," Forts chuckled. "Drageon it is then." Forts was on floating on cloud nine as he spoke, "John, can I introduce you to my two best friends and my best men for today? His Highness Prince Dimitri Chikenoff and the Baronet Kingholm; Dima and Chris." They all shook hands as John said, "Very pleased to meet you both, gentlemen." "Smile please everyone." Robert Milner was the official photographer for the day. He seemed to be everywhere at once. Archie chuckled, "You had better fix that smile. I don't think he is going to miss anything." "You could be right," I grinned and hissed, "CHEESE." * As the invited guests took their seat in the Great Hall, Mr Davis played a medley of light pipe organ music. Forts was so excited, he was hopping from foot to foot. Forgetting himself, he began greeting and welcoming the guests and even showing them to their seats; Dima and McPhee just stood chuckling. Archie and I tried to hang back, this was Drageon and Davy's day. Archie gave me a little tug on my sleeve. "Our son looks amazing. I am so proud of him." I could only nod. I didn't trust my voice not to fail, but he was right. Forts not only looked amazing, he had a presence; when he entered a room, everyone knew he was there. Davy, on the other hand, was so different, more reserved, shyer, is probably the right word, but just as adorable. The two of them complimented each other beautifully. Archie and I stood as Forts approached, smiling, with Davy's parents, Percy and Nathan. Davy's dad held out his hand. "My Lord." I stopped him straight away, "William, Brenda, you are family now, or will be in thirty minutes. Please call me Athol and, of course, you know, Archie." We all exchanged hugs and handshakes. Percy grinned, "Does that mean I can call you Athol too?" I winked, "No, you work here!" "Oh well was worth a try." He winked. "Where is little Andrew? I thought he would be here." Archie looked at Brenda, she just tapped her nose. William, Brenda, Percy and Nathan took their seats next to us. The room was rapidly filling up. Theodora arrived with the Grand Duchess Truorwskoy and the Princesses, Anastasia Chikenoff and Alexandra Maloshia, Count Ouranoff, Count Igoreovich: our very own Niki and the last of the Russians at the ceremony, Itzka Brodskoy. Group Captain Callum Tremblay, Gethin's brother, Rhys Evans, Robert Meisner, Gregor Duncan, Landers, Professor Harding, Captain Brandt, Major Russel Martin, Colonel Torcall Farquharson, Pilot Officer Jeremy Miles, Pilot Officer Stuart Burgess, the three Americans, Dexy, Lance and Greg. Finally, bringing up the rear, our friend and new fixture at Castle Fraser, Gunny. Who, I might add, was looking decidedly uncomfortable in his white tie and tails. Archie smiled, looking round. "That looks like everyone." I nodded, then heard the door open once more. I looked back, as Gary and Maureen, carrying little Aaran, came in. I went to move, Archie held me back as Forts walked to meet them. Archie was telling me to be calm, as I murmured, "I thought he was told not to come!" "Athol, this is Forts and Davy's day. Please. Just be pleasant. Let it go!" I caught Forts' defiant look as he made his way back to stand at the front, having seated them. There was no getting away from it, Forts was now his 'own man'. I tried not to think about it. * The newly resorted clock, high above the organ, chimed out, eleven o'clock. The room went silent as Denis's ceremonial staff struck the floor three times. "Your Imperial Highnesses, My Lords, Ladies, and Gentlemen. Please be upstanding for His Grace, the Duke of Pittodrie and party." I wished I could have seen Davy's face. He definitely didn't know that was coming. I took a last quick look at Forts. He was standing smartly, facing forward. He glanced quickly over his shoulder as the five trumpeters at the rear of the room blasted out a fanfare, then turned back facing the front. We all stood and turned as the pipe organ, with Mr Davis at the keyboard, blasted out, yes, you guessed it, 'The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba.' I could only picture Davy's face. Davy, accompanied by Gethin in his full-dress uniform of an Air Vice Marshall, began their procession down the hall towards us. Davy was dressed in an identical white tunic to the one Forts was wearing, they looked practically identical; maybe Forts had a couple more Diamond star broaches. I heard a couple of "Ahh's" and looked back. Then I spotted him, little Andrew was walking alongside Davy holding his hand. He was dressed identically to his older brother. I had to swallow hard to keep my composure. The procession halted while Milner took yet more photographs. I glanced towards Forts. Luckily, he glanced round just at that moment and his face said it all as he saw Davy, Andrew and Gethin. I think it was the only time during the day I saw his smile fail him. He glanced at Dima, who winked; this was obviously a surprise Forts knew nothing about, nor Davy, I would find out later. As they got closer, Gethin picked up Andrew and took him in his arms. I counted down the steps until Davy was alongside Forts. Forts glanced round. The look of love in both their eyes, reducing even grumpy old me to tears. Archie was sniffing next to me, I passed him second, my hankie. As the Organ music ended, Forts and Davy sat in two large chairs, the rest of the party, Gethin, Andrew, Dima and McPhee, sat to the left and right of their respective sides. * The Celebrant stood and moved in front of Forts, and Davy and the room fell silent. He gestured or everyone to sit. "Good morning, Your Highnesses, Lords, Ladies and Gentlemen. My name is John Irvin and on behalf of Davy and Forts; or should I say David and Drageon? I want to welcome you all to Fraser Castle and to the 'joining ceremony' of these two splendid fellows." He waited a moment and then continued, looking directly at Forts and Davy, "Sorry chaps, I have to ask this." He looked up at the audience, "Now I am not expecting any answers to this," he chuckled, "If any person here present knows of any lawful impediment to this joining, they should declare it now." McPhee gave a little cough and then a chuckle, as both Davy and Forts glanced round. Dima glared at McPhee, he still had a bit to learn about the British sense of humour. John Irvin gave a little titter, and smiled, "There's always one." I heard Forts exhale and saw him grip Davy's hand even tighter. John continued. "Today marks the beginning of the rest of Drageon's and David's lives together." "By entering in to this 'joining' today the bond between Drageon and David will grow stronger day by day, month by month and year after year and they will build upon the love and commitment they have already shown to one another. The love that has brought us all here today. Drageon and David, will you please stand." Both stood, staring into each other's eyes. "Drageon and David have both prepared the words they wish to say to each other. Please." Fort's took a deep breath, "Today in front of our family and friends, I promise I will always be there for you, David Thomas, my Davy, each and every day, in good times and in bad, I will be by your side. I will be your guardian, your partner, and support you on our lifelong journey together." I watched as Davy pulled himself straight. His eyes were glassy. "Today in front of our family and friends," Davy's voice broke, and a tear rolled down his cheek. It was a beautiful and tender moment. I felt Archie squeeze my hand. I looked round at him. He had tears rolling down his cheeks, too. He gave a little chuckle as he gently blew his nose on his hankie, mouthing, "Stop looking at me." Fort leant into him, smiling reassuringly, and whispered something, then wiped away the tear. Davy nodded and exhaled, before continuing, "I promise I will always be there for you, Drageon Drageonivanov Romanov, my Forts, each and every day, in good times and in bad, I will be by your side. I will be your guardian, your partner, and support you on our lifelong journey together." Drageon leant in and the two kissed. John smiled, and in a loud voice, announced, "In the presence of your family and friends, it gives me great pleasure to declare you both joined to one another. Congratulations." The room erupted as everyone leapt up and began clapping and cheering as Mr Davis played, the overture to Handel's Music for the Royal Fireworks. ********************** Folks, I really hope you're enjoying the story.
