He forced himself to smile, but we both could see the tear roll down his cheek. He took a big breath, burbling out, "I want to thank you both for an amazing night and for showing me just what true love is. I have no regrets and hope you don't either." Davy and I leapt up, "Come here. Of course, we have no regrets." We both hugged him. Colin nodded, "Thank you... Now, I had better get out to the horses." ********************** Operation Pied Piper – Part 140b – Marcus takes up the story I was sitting with my feet up, having cleared up the glasses and empty bottles from Forts and Davy's entertaining last night. My morning cup of tea sat steaming next to me. I was having a quick read of the papers before I had to wake Forts and Davy. Radost and Nadya were playing, tumbling around together on the carpet near my feet. I had already taken them both down to the lawn, which had been duly christened. It was amazing how quickly the two of them had become house trained. Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining. There is nothing quite as unpleasant as the feel of soft dog poop squishing through your toes or the seeming lake of urine such a small animal can pass. I was lost in the paper reading all about the German surrender at Stalingrad when the door behind me opened. I nearly jumped out of my skin and leapt up, dropping the paper and startling the pups. It was the boy from last night. He looked as surprised to see me as I was to see him. "Oh, sorry, good morning Sir," he stammered, as he continued to do up his tweed jacket's buttons. Recovering myself, I smiled, and with a chuckle said, "You don't have to call me Sir, I work for a living too... It's Colin, isn't it? You are the groom." He stopped and bowed his head, "Yes. I am just going to the stables, I am late." I stood up, "There is no rush. Would you like a cup of tea? There is plenty in the pot." He hesitated and then licked his lips, "I don't want to be any trouble." I was already pouring him a cup, "It is no trouble at all. Hang on, I will get you some toast, we can't have you going out to work on an empty stomach." He murmured again. "I really don't want to be any trouble." "You're not." I slipped two slices of bread into the toaster. I had already set up the breakfast table, for when Davy and Forts appeared. He gave me a smile. "Okay, thank you," he glanced back over his shoulder, biting his lip. As I handed him his tea, I noticed in his haste to leave he had messed up his buttons on his jacket and his hair was, shall we say, uncombed. He obviously caught my glance and blushed. I smiled, "You have messed up your buttons. I will get you a comb too, you look like you just got out of bed." I winked. He blushed even more. "Thank you... I am sorry..." He mumbled. "Colin don't be. Davy and Forts are a great couple of guys." I smiled and winked, "As long as you had fun." "Oh, I did," he replied a little too enthusiastically and then blushed as he realised what he had said. "Would you like some jam on your toast?" "Oh, yes, please!" I popped out into my room to get some jam. When I came back in, Colin was on the floor playing with the pups. He smiled up at me, "They are both lovely, aren't they?" I nodded, "Did you hear how they got their names?" He shook his head as I buttered and put jam on his toast. "Well, in English their names are Hope and Joy, that is the translation from the Russian." I picked up my tea and sat down and told Colin the full story of little Radost's family. ** McPhee takes up the story God, it was early. I stood looking round the room above the stable office, but there was no sign of Colin. I hoped Forts hadn't made a mistake promoting him to Head Groom, albeit only while Will was in the hospital. George was already mucking out the stalls of the four horses still kept here at Pittodrie. Four stalls had survived the fire intact, the only ones that had. Forts had decided as Davy and he were remaining at Pittodrie now, he wanted Pegasus, Daphne and Morag, Daphne's mum stabled here. I had sneaked my horse Hunter into the remaining empty stall. I left the room above the office, noting the bed didn't even appear to have been slept in. Where was Colin? I went out into the stable yard. One of the stable doors was open, I crossed to it. Pegasus looked over at me, those dark eyes giving me the once over. George had his back to me, he was busy replacing the soiled bedding straw. "Good morning George." The poor kid nearly jumped out of his skin, he hadn't heard me approaching. He spun round, "Oh, sorry, good morning, sir." "George, have you seen Colin?" George snatched his flat cap off his head and held it to his chest, "No, sir." I smiled, "Okay, carry on. In fact, I will give you a hand." "You don't have to do that, sir." George looked at the ground. He did look sexy in his checked shirt and denim dungarees and wellies. "Don't be daft, two pairs of hands make light work... I came over to help, anyway." I picked up a pitchfork and got laid into clearing the soiled straw in Pegasus and Daphne's stall. We soon had the bedding nice and fresh, now to fill the water troughs and hay nets. Crossing to the hay and feed store, I could tell George was still very shy, well around me anyway. I tried to make conversation. "They are getting on with the repairs, I see." George nodded and glanced at the progress of the new wooden roof. The main joists, rafters and some of the boarding were already in place. Once that was finished, the new slate tiles would be laid and the whole structure would be as good as new. The boys from the further education section were doing an amazing job and getting a load of experience ready for when they started on the house renovations and then the new cottages. Together, Colin and I stuffed four hay nets full. As he staggered out of the store carrying them, I had to laugh, he looked like a mad balloon salesman. I grabbed a bucket full of milled oats, the horses' breakfast and I headed back out into the yard. I walked straight into Colin. He stopped, "Good morning, Sir." "Hello Colin," I smiled, "Where have you been? George has been working away here by himself." Colin blushed, "I was... I was with... Forts and Davy last night. I'm sorry, I will get changed." He blurted out. "With Forts and Davy?" Before I could say anything else, he had bolted towards the office and the room above to get changed. George and I had just finished up with the horses and the chaps from the further education section had just started work when Colin reappeared. He looked nervous as he came over to us. The Head Groom uniform suited him, the tight white jodhpurs, didn't reveal too much at the front, but showed off his peachy tight bum beautifully. He turned to George, "George, I am sorry for being late, it won't happen again." He glanced at me, and I nodded, smiling, and gave him a wink. He cared. Forts had chosen the right guy, after all. "I take it you two need a lift across to the Castle?" Colin nodded, "Yes, sir, we need to take care of the horses over there too, ... If you are going over, could we jump in with you if that's okay?" "Sure. Come on, Forts lets me use the Jeep to get around the estate." * There is something innately fun about driving in an open topped vehicle, well, if it's not raining. Today it was just a bit, 'parky' as we used to say in England, meaning chilly. In Scotland, the locals here say it's, 'snell' or 'cauld'. Colin sat up beside me, George in the rear. Judging by the way they were both hooting and hollering, they were enjoying the experience and journey as much as me. I dropped them both off at the stables. Colin smiled, "Thank you for the lift." "Not a problem, I will probably not be here when you are finished..." Colin nodded, "That's not a problem sir, we have a lot of stuff to do here. We will be awhile and then we can probably get a lift back with Davy later." "Okay, but if you get really stuck, get hold of me." I waved and drove up to the Castle entrance and parked. I was heading through the door just as Davy and Vlad came out. They were obviously having a deep conversation, Davy didn't look very happy at all. "Good morning, Chaps." I smiled and tried to sound upbeat. Davy just nodded at me. Vlad gave a half smile and raised his eyebrows. The two of them headed off outside. I wonder what that was all about? I had a quick chat with Lillis during the lunch period and then headed back to Pittodrie. I wanted to speak to Forts, no needed to. I headed up to his apartment. Marcus showed me in. Forts was playing with Radost and Nadya. He smiled as I went in. He glanced up and down at me. I was still in my riding gear. He smiled, "Looking good Chris, be careful though you could take someone's eye out with that..." he chuckled, "Chris, what can I do for you?" "I was wondering if you fancied going for a ride? Pegasus' back is okay to take a saddle now." "Sure, hang on." Forts leapt up, scooping up Radost and Nadya and placing them back in their puppy crate. "Two minutes. I will get changed." I waited in the sitting room, wondering if Forts had any idea why I wanted, no needed to speak to him. * Forts seldom looked happier than when he was astride Pegasus. We galloped off up on to the nearby hills, crossing through the lowland rough moors. Forts wanted no security with us, he had made me sneak past Darius and Tobias' room. Once in the hills, we thundered along, the cold air nipping at us. My legs began to tingle, maybe just thin jodhpurs weren't quite enough to keep you warm in January. I wondered if Forts was thinking the same. I worried about unburdening my soul to him. I knew he had a lot on his plate again. Having said that, he always did, since discovering who he really was, he had never had a moments peace. But that didn't alter or sway my desire to speak to him and seek his advice. Pegasus was always a bit faster than Hunter, I wasn't far behind as Forts reached the summit of the hill. Pegasus reared up, showing off as usual. I am sure if he could have shouted "I'm the best, I'm the best," he would have. Forts was beaming as I joined them, his face full of life and stress free. He took a deep breath of the fresh air. We were right at the top of this particular hill. From here we could see the countryside stretching out in front of us for miles. Forts leant forward, standing up in his stirrups. "I love it up here... Away from everyone and everything." He breathed deeply again, and smiled back at me, "Present company excluded, of course, oh and Davy." I nodded, "Actually, I saw Davy earlier, he was talking with Vlad... It looked a bit tense if I am honest." Forts sighed, "Yes, I asked Vlad to speak to him. Dima wants Alexandra to host the Russian events with me." Forts shook his head, "I know it is really going to upset Davy... And all for the sake of appearances." I secretly had heard about that meeting. Should I let on or keep quiet? I decided to not let on, instead I repeated what Dima had told me, hoping it might help. "It is only for a couple of days." Forts nodded, "Try telling Davy that. Count Samara has another suggestion, but if that doesn't come off, well... I asked Vlad to sound out Davy. I am such a chicken, I hate hurting him." Forts sat down on the grass. "You're not a chicken... But I think Vlad has done that then, judging by Davy's face." I stood wondering if this was a good time to tell Forts about my own quandary. Forts glanced up at me and half smiled. Then Turned back, staring out into the nothingness. "Go on Chris, I can tell you want to speak to me about something." "Am I that obvious? Nothing escapes you..." My voice stumbled. Forts turned Pegasus until he was facing me, "That's how I know, Chris. You are one of my closest friends. Now what is it?" Forts grinned. "Have you gotten Con pregnant?" "If only it was that simple!" Forts looked at me more seriously and jumped down off of Pegasus. "Off you get Chris, come and sit down and speak to me, while we look out at all this. I find it helps me get things into perspective." I sat down next to him, the two horses munching grass quietly behind us. "Well?" "Forts, did you offer Olly Van Cusen a job?" Forts turned to me, questioningly, "Yes, why? Will is going to need looked after for a while yet. Who better? His skills would really help out at the Aberdeen infirmary too..." I swallowed, "I take it you didn't know about him and Con?" "No, what about them?" I could barely get the words out, "They love each other. They were sweethearts at medical school..." Forts looked at me earnestly, "Chris, I didn't know I promise. What's happened?" A tear rolled down my cheek, "Con asked me... If I could share him. Forts, I don't want to lose him." "Share him, how?" "He wants the three of us to try living together..." "The three of you?" I nodded. Forts exhaled and rubbed his head. "Well, I wasn't expecting you to say that... That's for sure... How do you feel about it?" I stood, and picking up a stone, launched it out towards the horizon before us. "I don't know... I have had sex with him... That was pretty amazing... He loved my cock." I chuckled. Forts laughed, "Everyone loves your HUGE cock." Seeing I didn't respond, Forts came and stood next to me, "Chris, sorry, but how would it all work? I take it you have spoken with Con and Olly?" "Yes, we all had a chat last night..." I hesitated, "Honestly, I don't know, I feel like I am the only one unsure about it." Forts had moved behind me, he put his head on my shoulder and stared out across the emptiness. "I wouldn't say that... But, Chris, if you don't want this, you have to say." "But what if it means I risk losing Con? Forts... I see how they look at each other. Oh, shit!" My mind was racing, I had better tell Forts everything... "Olly spoke to me alone, too. He said he would leave if I wanted him to. Then said he could love us both, and he could see how much I loved Con..." I exhaled as my emotions began to take hold of me, "Then he asked if there was anyway I could love him too?" Forts put his arms round me, "No pressure then." "What do you think I should do?" Forts turned me to face him, "Chris, I don't think I can help you with this one. It has to be your decision." I swallowed and nodded, "If I decided to give it a go, would you have any objections to us all staying in our rooms at Pittodrie? I know you offered Con and me that cottage..." Forts focused his eyes on mine, "Chris, I would insist on you staying at Pittodrie! You know Davy and I love you, everyone does. We are all here for you. I want you close by in case you need us. If it all works out okay, well, then the cottage is still yours." "Thank you," my voice was only a whisper. I turned and picked up another stone and launched it in to the sky, "Con still says he loves me and if I don't want to try it, he will understand." The stone clattered against a nearby rock. Forts' eyes were still on me. He nodded and went over to Pegasus and took hold of his bridle, "So what do you think you are going to do? You know you will have my support, whatever you decide." Finally, I had the answer for myself, "I am going to give it a go." Forts jumped up on to Pegasus' back. He held the reins of Hunter, indicating I should get on. Forts gave me a cheeky smile and winked, "Do you get to sleep with each of them whenever you fancy it, you know, separately, or is nookie only allowed when you are all together?" I laughed, "Forts! Trust you to think about that." With that, Forts kicked on Pegasus, he glanced back, "I wonder if I can talk Davy into something like that? " Pegasus took off along the crest of the hill, with Forts laughing his head off. "Looks like you have already." I called cheekily after him. "I saw an exhausted Colin this morning!" "That was Davy's idea!" Another gale of laugher drifted back to me as I spurred Hunter on to catch them. ** Will takes up the story Two days ago, I hoped that my move to a slightly bigger room meant that I was going to get some company. I hadn't seen Jeremy since he went for his operation. I got the impression something had not gone right. But no one was telling me anything. Mum had popped in earlier, but said she hadn't heard anything. I hadn't even seen either Professor Harding or Van Cusen either. The good news was my hands had been uncovered now. They still looked very pink and raw. The nurse who removed the bandages told me one of the doctors would see me later. Slowly I managed to eat my dinner, my hands were still very tender, but at least I could move and use them. I poked the liver and bacon around on the plate. Not my favourite meal, but beggars can't be choosers. The clatter of both the room doors banging open, cause me to jump. "Room for a little one?" "JEREMY!" Jeremy waved at me weakly even though he was lying flat on his back in the hospital bed. "Told you I would be back." His voice was frail, and his expression, although he was trying to smile, pained. Behind the two nurses pushing the bed were Professors Harding and Van Cusen. They both smiled at me and winked. It took a bit of toing and froing to get his bed into position. The poor guy winced each time it hit something. Van Cusen came over to me. "Right, while they get Jeremy all settled let me have a look at you." He pulled the curtain round us, that seemed odd. "The nurse tells me she has removed the bandages on your hands, let me see." I raised my hands off the bed and held them up. "Hmmm," he turned them over and examined every finger, "How do they feel?" "A bit tender, but I can move them all." Olly winked, "I am not sure if that's a good thing or not. It means you won't need as much of my help." He whispered. I blushed. "Let me check your side and chest." He wheeled the small over-bed table away, and eased down the sheet covering me. "Sorry, this is going to hurt a bit." I braced myself, knowing that it always made me jump when the dressing on my side was removed. There was a cry from the other side of the curtain, it sounded like Jeremy. Olly jumped up and stuck his head through the curtain, "Is everything okay?" I tried to peer through the small gap, but couldn't see anything. Professor Harding's voice answered, "Yes, just getting comfortable." Olly's head reappeared, he turned and smiled at me, "Right, let's get a look at you." "Is Jeremy okay?" I kept my voice low. Olly nodded, "As well as we can expect him to be. It was a bit touch and go for a while. The bullet we removed was very close to his spine... It will be a few days before we know if it has been a success... We both thought he would be better with some company. I hope you don't mind keeping a bit of an eye on him for us. If he tries to move or do anything you call for the nurse straight away." I nodded, whispering, "Will he be able to walk again?" I could see Olly didn't really want to answer that one. "Enough questions, let me check this." Slowly, Olly peeled, yes peeled the dressing off my side. I could feel the tears rolling down my cheeks. "You are doing well." He smiled, trying to reassure me, but it hurt like a bitch. With the dressing finally off, he winked. "Let me get something to give it a clean-up, one minute." Olly left the wound uncovered as he popped out behind the curtain. I glanced down at it. I hadn't really been able to look at it before. God, it was a mess, well it looked like it to me. Bright pink skin surrounded a weeping yellow area. It looked like a huge burst blister. At the centre of that was a blood red mass of damaged skin. Olly reappeared, followed by a male nurse with a small trolly. Olly saw my worried face, "You have been peeking." He sat down on the bed next to me and took my hand. "Now this is going to sting a bit. Mark here is going to clean it up for you." The nurse called Mark smiled at me. He had beautiful hazel-coloured eyes. They had a hypnotic quality about them, only broken when he winked at me. "The Professor tells me you are from Castle Fraser School, do you know Chris McPhee?" Now he had not only my attention but also Olly's. Before I answered, Olly smiled, "How do you know Chris?" Mark grinned cheekily, "I looked after that big boy when he was knocked down by the horse and spent the night here... So, he is still about then?" Olly seemed to wait before replying, "Yes, he is His Imperial Highness' Factor, in charge of the newly expanded Pittodrie Estate." I was so engrossed in the conversation, any pain as the wound was cleaned missed me. Mark smiled, "That's you all done." He cleared up his trolly and turned back to Olly. I didn't realise this was the first time they had met. "Is there anything else, Professor?" I was sure he had dropped his voice, making it sound sexier as he said that and licking his lips. Olly stood, facing the smiling Mark. "Well, perhaps you can keep an eye on Will here for me... Remember to use a firm hand on him." Will turned and grinned at me. "That would be my pleasure, Professor." I am sure my mouth was hanging open, what was that all about? ** Robert takes up the story The Grand Duchess Truorwskoy arrived with Dima's mother and Alexandra the day before the two days of events were about to start. Forts had asked her to meet him, with Dima, Count Samara and myself, before everything began. I watched as Forts nervously walked up and down, constantly glancing at his watch. There was a knock on the door. It opened and Denis came in. "Your Imperial Highness... The Grand Duchess Truorwskoy." Forts crossed to meet the elderly woman, he bowed and kissed her cheeks. She smiled serenely and kissed him back. We all sat down, and over tea Forts, Dima, and Count Samara explained what we hoped would happen over the following days. The Duchess listened and finally smiled, nodding. "You are obviously worried about what people think of you and Davy." Forts sighed and glanced at Dima. "I'm not... but..." The Grand Duchess saw the glance and reached out and took Forts' hand. Her voice was steady and full of compassion. "Drageon. This is not about your friends, I know they all love you deeply. Alas, appearances can be important to those others whose vision is too shallow to recognise true love. My husband loved me with all his heart, but... Well, let's say I knew of his evening visits..." Forts blushed and broke eye contact. She smiled and squeezed his fingers, "It is alright, and of course I would love to play my part to confuse those idiots. Life is never easy, Drageon," her eyes sparkled, "but that doesn't mean we can't make it fun." I was seeing a side of this old lady I had never seen before, and I liked it. Forts smiled and nodded, "Thank you." The Grand Duchess let go of Forts' hand. "Prince Drageon, you know I knew your parents well. They would have been so proud of the man you have become." Forts looked choked up, he visibly checked himself. She continued, "My husband, the late Grand Duke, saw in you the person who could reinvigorate the Romanov dynasty. I will be honest, I had my doubts, but he was correct, I was wrong. You are an amazing young man." Forts blushed, bowed his head and barely audibly repeated, "Thank you." The Grand Duchess smiled and looked round, "Now, grandson." She took a sip of her tea. "I do hope you don't mind me calling you that?" Forts swallowed and dropped to one knee in front of her. "No, of course not. I would be overjoyed." He took her hand and kissed it. The Grand Duchess nodded as Forts slowly got up and took his seat once more. "Now, where is your amazing partner Davy and my great grandson, Prince Draco?" "I'll get them." The look of relief on Forts' face was a joy to see. ********************** Folks, there is nothing more rewarding than hearing from you that you are enjoying the story.
