The meds kicked in fast. Once home Billy and Pops got half sleep walking Josh up stairs. Got him undressed and into bed. The meds did the rest and he slept through the night. It was now late Billy said good nite to Pops. "Is he gonna be alright Pops." "Don't worry Billy the body has a tremendous capacity to heal, especially when you are young like you and Josh. Yes, he'll be fine. In a couple of weeks this will all be a bad memory." "Thanks Pops we are so lucky to have you." "Oh go on now, stop trying to butter me up. If Josh wakes during the night you come get me. Understood!!" "Yes Sir.. and I'm not buttering you up.. It's true we are lucky to have you." " I'm sorry Billy; I guess I could do better on accepting compliments. I am lucky to have you as well and Josh. Billy you have a habit of saying the nicest things in such an honest way. It's a good trait and don't loose it." Pops hugged Billy again. The boy looked up at the old man. Jon saw all the pain and misery the he had endured in his young life. Pops picked up Billy and kissed him on his cheek Billy wrapped his arms around Pops' neck. "I love you too Pops just like Josh does." "I know Billy and I hope you know I love you too just like I love Josh." "Really Pops; I though you was just being nice because I was Josh's friend." "Maybe in the beginning before I really knew you. But every time I see you, I see what a fine young man you are and I love you for just being who you are. Soon your mom will have a good paying job and you'll be out of the shelter. You have already started to heal, you should know that you are worthwhile, that you and your mom deserve a better life than the shelter and your mom is going to get it for you. Josh has no one, you have your mom but lucky me I have both of you." Jon put Billy down he was surprised he was able to pick him up, he gave him another hug and shooed him to bed. Billy wiped the tears from his eyes. He didn't know why he teared up. Maybe it was seeing his best friend, his brother hurt so bad. Maybe it was because he knew he had the love of Pops and he could take the place of the dad he never had. He was sad and he was happy at the same time. He so wanted his real dad but was glad he had at least found Pops. Pops got up for his middle of the night pee and checked on the boys. Billy was up and sitting indian style on his bed. Tears were streaming down his face. He was whispering "Don't let anything bad happen to him God. Please get him well" Pops went tip toeing over to Billy took his hand and stood him up. Picked the 15 year old up and carried him out to his bedroom. Billy was hugging Pops around his neck as tight as he could. He had to hold on, Pops carried the mostly naked boys with his arms under Billy sexy boy underwear. Pops put Billy on his bed pulled the covers up and got in the other side. "Billy" "Yes, Pops" "what are you afraid of" "I don't want Josh to be hurt and die. I never saw him hurting so bad. If he dies I won't be able to come and see you anymore or be able to play with him. I don't want him to die like my dad, Pops. I can't let that happen." Pops brushed the tears from Billy's eyes and kissed his cheek."Billy do you think I would lie to you." "No Sir" "Did I tell you Josh would heal and this would be a bad memory in a couple of weeks?" "Yes Sir" "Why don't you believe me?" "I don't know Pops; I never seen him hurting so bad. He's always been so brave and tough." "Well I'm promising you he will be better when you come next weekend. And another thing if Josh is not here, like on a trip or something I expect you to come on the weekend just like you would if he was here. I would be mad at you if you didn't come. It would mean you only came to see Josh and I didn't count." "Oh no Pops I would never think that. I am always so happy to see you. You saved my mom's life ; you got rid of my crabs. You got me clothes; you feed me like I've never been fed before. Pops you take such good care of me. Pops you are the best grandpa in the whole world." "So you would come to see me then." "Oh yes sir." "So what was that about not being able to come if something happened to Josh." "I don't know Pops, I was just scared I guess." "Are you scared now?" "No sir" "Come on over here and give your old Pops a hug and lets get some sleep, ok" Billy scooted over to Pops and hugged him and kissed him on his cheek. "I'm sorry for being such a baby Pops." Pops hugged Billy tight; Billy's face buried in his chest. "Hey we all get scared, you are not a baby at all. And if you get scared like that again you come right here to me just like Josh does when he has his bad dreams. Understood." "Yes sir." Billy squeezed closer to Pops and kissed his cheek again, "I love you Pops" "I love you too Billy, now we have to get some sleep." Billy slept close to Pops and for the first time in his life that he could remember really felt safe. He wasn't alone. Yeah he had his mom but half the time he felt he had to protect her. This was different; he had a man to help and protect him. No one would hurt him with Pops around. Sunday brought little change in Josh. Billy, had to help him with everything he did. He got Josh dressed the same way they had done it the night before. He loved his brother and for sure wanted to help in any way possible. Josh had no idea that Billy had been up half the night worrying about him. Pops was busy in the kitchen and Josh asked him to help him to the bathroom. Billy said "I'll do it Pops" "I don't think you wanna help on this one buddy. I gotta take a dump." "Gee that would be a bit stinky but just to show you how much I care. I'll wipe your ass for you" Josh was a little shocked but said "Really, Thanks buddy." "But if I ever need help you got to do the same for me.... Promise?" " Cripes, I hope you never have this kind of problem but if you do I'll do it for you." Billy helped Josh up off the couch and to the little downstairs power room. Helped him pull down his sweat pants and sit down on the throne. "Do I have to stay here while you stink up the place or can I wait outside." "Thanks a lot Billy, I mean it, your are the best brother a guy could have. Stay where ever you are happiest." "Guess I'll stay here and make sure your skinny little ass doesn't fall in the bowel and get flushed down the sewer." Josh chuckled at that. But when he did his ribs hurt like the dickens. "Billy please don't make me laugh it hurts my ribs so bad." "Oh so tickling is off limits too." Josh laughed again "Please stop Billy it really, really hurts." "Ok but I can see you're not going to be much fun today." With that a massive fart and a big plop was heard in the bowel. "Excuse me I have to go now" Billy got up and faked leaving. He did get a gulp of fresh air at the doorway. Josh said, "I'm done." Billy said, "Thank God... So how are we gonna do this Genius Boy. It's gotta hurt if you bend over while sitting there." The pain was getting to Josh "Ohh I don't know Billy." Billy saw Josh's distress and softened his macho demeanor. "Ok Bud I'll have you out of here in no time and back on your comfy couch." Josh tried to smile through clenched teeth. "How about you stand up and lean against the wall and I do the wiping bit. Ok" "OK" Billy got Josh up leaning against the wall crouched down, spread Josh's cheeks and did the deed. He wet the final wipe to be sure he got him clean. Pulled up his pants and said "lets get you back on the couch" Holding him as straight as possible Billy got Josh back to the couch. "It's been 3 hours and 45 minutes want me to check with Pops if you can have another pain pill." "Yeah please,.... thank you Billy you are the best." Billy wanted to come back with a wise crack but thought better of it; in case he'd make Josh laugh. Billy got the pills from Pops and a glass of water and went back to his charge. Josh took them and soon fell a sleep. Billy sat on the floor next to Josh. No big brother could ever have been more devoted to his little brother than Billy was to Josh. Pops marveled at the love between his 2 adopted grandsons. He knew Josh was special with his feelings for other people but now he knew Billy was special with his feelings for Josh. Billy hovered over Josh like a mother hen getting him his meals and meds and taking him to the bathroom. He put the TV on when Josh was awake so he had something to amuse himself then shut it off when Josh dozed off, least it disturb him. Pops had dinner early around 4:00 so he knew Billy had a good meal in him before heading back to the shelter. At 5:00 o clock Pops said it was time to head to the bus station. Billy always hated going back but this time all the more. "Pops, won't you need my help in taking care of Josh. I'll call my mom. She'll understand." "Billy you did a great job taking care of Josh today and I'm sure he would rather have you helping him than this crusty, grumpy, old man. But you have school and that is important. You can call as many times as you want every day to check on Josh. If you go over your minutes, I'll pay for it. So don't worry about that. I really think it's best that you go and when you come back on Friday you'll see how much better he is. OK" Billy looked at Pops with tears in his eyes. "If he's not better can I come back, please." "Billy, I told you last night that you can always come here I am your foster grandpa too. You'll be surprised at how much better he'll be by next weekend." Billy put his head down and went in to Josh on the couch. "I gotta go now will you be ok while Pops takes me to the bus stop? Do you have to take a leak or anything? Can I get you anything?" Josh looked up at his friend his foster brother. Saw the tears in his eyes and his worry. "I'm gonna be OK, Billy, really. Thank you for all you did today. No one ever had a better brother than you." With that Josh willed himself to get up and did not show the pain just like he did when he shot the winning basket. He went towards Billy. Billy rushed to him and Josh hugged him as tight as he could. "See I'm gonna be alright.... I'll see you next weekend." He walked Billy to the door and Pops' waiting old van. Pops said "I'll be back within the half hour try to rest now." Billy gone Josh closed the door then slumped down to the floor and stretched out to alleviate the pain. On the ride to the bus station Pops said, "Do you feel better now Billy; see Josh is getting better" "Pops, I thought you knew him better than that. It was all a show for me so I wouldn't feel bad on leaving. He probably closed the door and fell to the floor. Got on his back to straighten his ribs and stop the pain." "You think so Billy, he looked pretty good to me." "Pops I know so. He can use his mind to make pain go away but when he stops it hurts twice as much as if he didn't do it. Trust me he is on the floor right now. When you go home, ask him. That's why he was able to still play in the game and make the shot. Then when no one was around just you and me you saw the agony he was in." "Maybe you got something there. Billy. I'll ask him and let you know thanks for telling me." "See there's stuff like that that only I know so I should be with him." "Tell you what Billy if he's not showing real signs of improvement when we see Doc Brown on Tuesday; I'll call you and ask you to come out. I'll make sure Doc knows he can block out pain sometimes. Deal?" "OK but I still wish I could stay right now." "Try it this way your schooling is important; it's best to not have you miss time." "I know Pops but Josh is more important than school." "I'll call you Tuesday night and give you a report. OK ... now that is only 2 days." "OK Pops, you know best." Pops got Billy on his bus and went right home. Josh had wiggled his way back to and up on the couch. He was on the phone with Jesse. "I'm gonna be out of school for a couple days Jesse. The doc says I have busted ribs so I was hoping you could get my assignments for me. " "Sure no problem. I'm sorry to hear you are laid up. You should have come out of the game, Josh. Winning isn't everything not when your health is at stake." "Yeah you are probably right. It isn't the winning that gets to me it's the losing. I hate losing. I don't know why but I do hate it." "Yeah I know. I feel a little like that to. So what's the address I'll get my mom to drop me off and if you are up to it I'll visit a while." "24 Grove St. It would be nice to have you visit. Thanks" "OK, see you tomorrow then." "Thanks Jesse." "Pops I got Jesse to get me my assignment from school tomorrow." "That's fine Josh.... Say Billy wanted me to ask you a question." "What Pops" "He says you can block out pain with your mind and after you got up hugged him and walked him to the door; when you shut the door he thinks you fell down from the pain and laid on your back. Was he right. He said it was all a show for him not to worry about you?" "Jeeze I can never fool him. Yeah he is right. That's exactly what happened. Pops he was so good to me all day I didn't want him going home and still worrying. Cripes, Pops he even wiped my ass." "I know you meant well but when someone cares about you that much you should be as honest as you can with them. You are very lucky to have such a great friend." Josh said "Brother... I don't care if there isn't blood between us ... he is my brother and a better one I could never have." "OK yes, I agree he is your brother and you always want to be honest with him.... Pain is a very important thing it tells us your body needs to be helped, it needs to be fixed. There are times when you don't want to show it and there are times to not hide it. I don't think you should hide it from your family. Josh, Billy and I are your family. Your broken ribs will heal and you didn't do any additional damage by playing with them. There is the possibility that you could have. By not telling your coach about your pain you could have punctured a lung and people can die from that, from not getting enough air. Understand. No game or championship is worth that. So let the experts like Doc Brown decide if you should keep playing. I know you are very, very, smart but you don't know everything. " "I think I understand Pops, Thanks" They watched TV for a little bit when Pops asked Josh if he was ready for bed. "Well if you give me the pain meds I'll be ready real fast." "OK how about a sponge bath then." "Yeah how do you do that" "Well you strip down. We protect your bandage with a towel and I use a sponge or a wash cloth to wash you. OK" "OK Pops I don't want to be stinking up the house." First, Pops got Josh upstairs then went to get an old bar stool that he put in the tub. He carefully got Josh naked and then wrapped a towel around his bandage. Josh sat on the stool Pops first washed his back and them his neck, chest and pits under arms.. Then he had josh stand while he got his legs and legs thighs and butt. For sure Josh was enjoying the cleaning his young eager penis was in all it's glory. Pops went ahead and washed it too. "Pops please don't stop. It hurts for me to rub it but feels so good when you do." "Ohh ,OK Josh once you are healed no more." "Yes Pops anything you say Pops. Make it come please Pops. Make my big hard dick shoot it's load. Pops went to work on the throbbing penis, washing Josh's balls around his pubs and between his legs up to his rosebud. Josh was trembling from Pops' attentions. He held his ribs. Finally Pops washed the cock head and the boy gushed out a load and a half. "There feel better now son." "Oh yes thank you Pops.... You know being helped to get dressed and undressed and Billy helping me use the bathroom had got me real horny." "Ok now lets get you dried off and don't be sprouting any more wood." "I'll try not to Pops.... Pops should I sleep in with you. " " Yes I think so Josh. If you need help with anything I'll be right here. See if you can take a leak now." Josh peed like he was told. Pops helped him get his undies on and into bed, gave him his meds and in 10 minutes Josh was out like a light. Pops went down for his own meds and to close up the house. Monday found Josh scratching at the bandage and bored out of his mind. He couldn't text Billy who was in school. He really couldn't move much or do anything or else his ribs told him about it. Pops help him up to go to the bathroom. When Jesse came by at 3:30 Josh greeted him like a long lost brother. "Thanks a lot Jess, man I've been so bored all day at least now I can do school work." "Wow you gotta be going stir crazy if you think home work is a good thing." "At least it will give me something to do. I really can't move because of the ribs." "Did the doctor say you couldn't move or is just too pain full." "Just too pain full. It's a tiny bit better today. I'm supposed to see the doctor tomorrow. Hopefully he'll clear me for school on Wednesday" "Say, can I ask you a personal question." "Yeah anything you want to know." "Who was that kid who kissed you after the game." "That's Billy, we adopted each other, kind of, he's like a brother to me just not biologically." "Is he gay kissing you like that?" "I don't know, my Pops said it is stupid for kids to put labels on themselves when they aren't matured." "Are you gay" "Jeeze Jesse I don't know if I'm gay, straight or bi. I'm not putting a label on myself.....Because you are my friend and I presume will still be my friend, I'll tell you this. Billy is kind of affectionate. He's the kid I told you about that I was in the shelter with. Him and me we've done some sexual stuff. Pops called it exploring. Pops said at least half the men in the world had their first sexual experience with another male; usually, someone their own age like me and Billy. Some do sex play with more than one guy. But there are only about 15% of the men in the world who are gay. So a lot of guys fool around with guys when they are young but when they get older they become attracted to girls, get married and make babies. So you are gonna have to wait about 5 years to find out if I'm gay." "Wow, I didn't know all about that. Me I never did anything but jerk off by myself. What kind of stuff do you and Billy do." "Really, Jess" "Come on Josh, I just want to know. I not going to blab it to anyone. I'm getting hard just talking about it." "OK we jerked each other off and gave each other blow jobs and yeah we kissed. We don't normally kiss in public. Billy was just very excited after the game. His dad died over in Iraq, he never met him even as a baby and I lost mine when I was 8 so we never had an example of what to do or not do." "Josh " "Yes" "No I can't say it I'm sorry" "What Jesse, come on I just told you my most private stuff. Spill it" Jesse stammered, "WWWell would yyou ever ttthink of doing ssstuff with me." Josh smiled ear to ear, "wanna start by kissing? But ya gotta be real careful of my ribs." Jesse's mouth was all dry he tried to talk but nothing came out. He mouthed the word yes then shook his head up and down. Finally it came out, "yes" he whispered. "Come here you big lug." Josh held his arms open for Jesse. Ever so carefully Jesse leaned over on by Josh with just his face close to Josh. Josh wrapped his arms around Jesse's neck and gave him a peck on the lips, then another and another until Jesse kissed back with a peck of his own. Then Josh plunged his tongue into Jesse's mouth and explored his mouth; came out for air and did it again and again. Jesse instinctively sucked Josh's tongue, time and time again. Then Jesse took control and plunged his tongue into Josh's mouth. Jesse's boner was screaming to get out of his pants. Josh felt it up and rubbed up and down. Josh sucked harder on Jesse's tongue, pulled harder on the boner in Jesse's pants. Jesse went rigid Josh pulled again slowly squeezing the raging boner. Then he felt it twitching and letting out Jesse's cream. He held and caressed Jesse's head then his face ; and started giving him little pecking kisses. As Jesse came out of his organism high. Josh looked at him and smiled. "Do you care if that was gay or straight or was it just great sex play." "Wow that was awesome. Really awesome. Wow I like kissing you. I must have a gallon of cum in my pants." "The powder room is down that hall take off your underwear there, rinse the cum out and bring them to me." Jesse did what Josh said. "Pops" Jesse's eyes got wide as saucers. Pops came in the living room. "Pops would you do me a big favor and not ask any question please." "Probably." "Pops we had a little accident and Jesse needs to get his underwear dry. I would do it but walking will hurt my ribs." "Oh that's all, I thought you wanted me to rob a bank or something. I'll try to make sure all the cum stains are out while I'm at it. Does Jesse want to stay for supper" The boys both broke out laughing especially Jesse. Josh was laughing and crying at the same time while holding his ribs. Josh finally caught his breath. "Please stay" Josh pleaded. "I'll have to ask my mom but I'd like to." Pops said, "Good you tell your mom I'll take you home by 8:00 and what did I say that was so funny, cum stains?" Jesse laughed and again and said yes. "Well what's so funny about that; teenage boys have been making cum stains ever since Adam bit the old apple, nothing different about you doing it, Jesse. I hear some kids throw away their underwear because they jerked off in them. Now that is a waste bring them here and I'll show you how to wash and dry them." Jesse was laughing again but said "Yes sir I'll not throw them away and I'll bring them here to wash them." "Ok, Good boy now call your mom" Josh said "tell her we want to do homework together and we really should." "Good thinking" Jesse called his mom and she wanted to talk to Pops. "are you sure this ok Mr. Calahan?" "Please call me Jon or Pops and yes you would be doing me a great favor. Josh really can't move with his ribs and such. I know he's hurting and I want him to get better but this little bit of time he's had with Jesse has been the first bit of peace, I've had all day. Plus it's picked up his spirits. If they can occupy each other for a few hours with something worthwhile like home work. It would be such a blessing to me. You know I'm not as young as I used to be and it's even hard for young parents to keep up with teenage boys never mind an old man like me." "Well since you explain it that way. Jesse thinks the world of Josh and if it's really a help I guess it's ok." "Good, thank you so much. I'll bring him home by 8:00; that's the time I give Josh his pain meds and they knock him out in 10 minutes." Pops washed up Jesse's underwear and told the boys he needed to go up to the super market. "Jesse said "don't get anything special for me, Mr. Calahan, I'll eat anything." Pops said "by the looks of you, Jesse and I mean this as a compliment, you'll eat anything that's not nailed down. Now you too hit the books and leave me make my supper. No sex games mind you HOMEWORK!!. Jesse loved Pops unabashed straight forward ways. "Yes Sir Mr. Calahan." "And no more Mr. Calahan out of your Jesse, You can call me Pops just like Josh." "Yes Pops" Jesse responded. Pops was on his way. He got tilapia with red potatoes and red and green peppers, onions, mushrooms and broccoli. Josh said "So what do you think of Pops" "He is unbelievable, not afraid to say anything to anyone I bet. He sure does know how to get things done. My mom hardly ever lets me have diner over at a friend's house. He made her feel like she was doing him the biggest favor in the world." "Yeah that's Pops. He went out in the New Year's snow storm to get Billy's mom. I t was really dangerous driving I was scared for all of us. But he made it seem like a walk in the park. Except when we were finally home and safe he let out a big sigh of relief and I saw his right arm shaking uncontrollably. He probably saved Annies life and he said it just a little ride in the snow. When she wanted to make a Spanish dinner for us he got all the fixings and then made her feel she had done us the biggest favor ever. He is amazing sometimes I swear he knows what I'm thinking before I do. He's a special guy all right." The boys decided to get as much homework done as they could. Jesse said " whatever you get done I'll be able to hand in for you." "Thanks Jesse I need to see the doc tomorrow but could you maybe stop by again with assignments. I'm really happy to have you here." "I'll get them and ask my mom to drop me off again if the doctor makes you run late send me a text. This is great and I'll never question you about kissing Billy again." "Hey you're a pretty good kisser too. Took you a bit to catch on but then wow." Pops came back, peaked in on the boys; saw them hard at the books and started making supper. He got enough for 4 adults figuring each boy would eat a share and a half. So he went to cooking. Tilapia in the oven garnished with slices of lemon, green pepper, onions and mushrooms. He baked the potatoes in the micro wave and them sliced them and seasoned with garlic salt before lightly frying them along with the cooked broccoli. The aroma of the spices and foods drifted through the house. Josh yelled "Something sure smells good Pops" Jesse added "Yeah Pops you sure are making us hungry." Pops yelled back, "do your home work; no food for slackers." With Pops' motivation their stomachs grumbling the boys set out to finish with renewed energy. 10 minutes latter Pops said, "How are you doing?" "Almost done Pops" came the reply in unison. "Good more for me" "Aww come on Pops," Josh yelled. "Ohh OK boys come and get it. I must be getting to be an old softy in my old age." Jesse helped Josh up from the couch. Josh held his side and gimped along to the kitchen. Pops made the boys hold hands as he said the grace. Then said "lets eat." Josh asked "Can I have some wine Pops." Pops said, "It's not a good idea to mix alcohol with drugs, Josh. You know you are underage and I certainly couldn't give wine to Jesse without his parent's approval. Sorry, the answer is an emphatic no." The conversation was mostly about the game and Jesse's scoring. The two boys kept trying to compliment each other saying the other one won the game for them. After a little of that Pops said they both had exceptional games and one couldn't have won without the other. They agree to that. Josh told how Jesse told the Madville coach off after the game and how Coach Mathews backed him up. Pops told the boys he and coach were going to the state school boy association to try to make sure what happened to Josh would never happen to another high school player. The boys both went back for seconds and split the 4th piece of fish and had more potatoes and broccoli. Jesse said "I'm stuffed that was a great meal, Pops." Jesse volunteered to help clean up after diner but Pops would have none of it." Jesse you are a guest. Now if Josh was able I'd let you help him but since he's not; leave it to me." The boys went back to finish the homework but Pops said " go play xbox or something you can finish the homework on your own after Jesse leaves. Pops called to Jesse," Hey bud why don't you get your underwear out of the dryer and stop going around here commando. Jeeze if your mother ever found out she'd think I was some kind of pervert." "Yes sir, on my way now. I'll change in the powder room right now." 10 minutes to eight rolled around way to fast for the boys. Pops said "Come on Jesse I promised your mom to have you home by 8:00." "Aww darn I was just going to kill Josh" "All the more reason to get a murderous dude like you out of the house." They both chuckled Josh holding his side. Josh said "Thanks for bringing my work and staying with me. You are a real friend." "Well I'll see you tomorrow with the rest of the assignments. You made doing homework fun." A short 5 minute drive to Jesse's house. "Thanks for diner, Pops." "Well thank you for coming and bringing Josh's assignments and being such a good friend to him." "It's easy being a friend to Josh. He's great." "Well you come over anytime. You know where we live now and it's not far from your house at all." "Thanks Pops I'll see you tomorrow." "Good nite Jesse." Jesse went in the house. His mom asked, "How was diner." "It was great mom, Mr. Calahan, he told me to call him Pops, made this fish tilipia or something like that with garlic potatoes and broccoli and peppers and onions and mushroom on the fish; Ohh yeah lemon too on the fish. It was really, really, good." "Wow looks like I'm going to have to up my game." "Don't be silly mom you are a great cook. I could die for your fried chicken and your meatloaf. It's just that it was something, I never had before and he said fish and broccoli were healthy for you. I guess you expected an old man would serve dog food or something" Jesse's mom had a little competitive spirit about her; as a matter of fact a very large competitive spirit. His dad was more laid back but she was one to pick up a challenge anywhere. She didn't like the idea of an old man showing up her cooking to her son. "No, No Jesse I'm very pleased that he gave you something so healthy and you like it. He is quite right and I think I'll try making something like that. Fish is very good for you; I'll check for recipes on line." "Say Dad can I talk to you." "Of course son" "Maybe up in my room please." Jesse's dad knew what that meant. "Sure is now good" "Yeah ." Once in his room Jesse swallowed hard and said "someone told me that a lot of guys say my age have their first sex with another guy. But they aren't really gay and when they are older they get married and have kids and stuff. Is it true?" "Well boys have been known to experiment with other boys and it can be very pleasurable if there isn't a ton of guilt. So I would say what you heard is pretty much true. This much I will tell you whether your early sex is with a male or a female make sure it is someone who cares about you and who you care about as well. " "They said putting label on yourself at 14 was wrong because you are still maturing." "Looks like whoever you got your information from, knows what they are talking about. What I'm gonna tell you I haven't told another living person. Me and one of your uncles used to jerk each other off and we even went beyond that orally. But today I'm married as is he; we both have wonderful kids; we both love our wives very much because of what wonderful women they are, but also because they also gave us wonderful children like you. I wouldn't trade one minute of it. But if when your are 20 years old if you think you are gay I'll believe you and try to love you more because I know life will be a little harder. It's changing for gay people but there is still a lot of discrimination against them. Does that answer your question." Jesse leaned over and hugged his dad and said "Yes, Dad and thanks; I'm so lucky to have you and mom." He squeezed his dad till he almost choked him. "What brought all that on" "Well I told you about how Josh lost his dad when he was 8 and now I heard his friend Billy from the shelter. His dad died over in Iraq and he never even saw him as a baby. And I have a great dad like you to talk to, always have and they only had each other in the shelter." "There's a saying that might help you. "THERE BUT FOR THE GRACE OF GOD GO I". God works in mysterious ways, a lot of what happens in life does not make sense. There is another saying "GOD GRANT ME THE STRENGTH TO CHANGE THE THINGS I CAN AND TO ACCEPT THE THINGS I CANNOT AND THE WISDOW TO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE . Some place in this world there is a reason why Josh and Billy have it so much harder than you. I am touched that you see these differences and you make me so proud that you care about other people so much. About all you can do is be the best friend to them that you can be. Be there to help them and let me know if there is anything either I or your mom can do to help them." "Thanks dad." They hugged again and Jesse's dad, kissed him on the cheek. "Did you get all your homework done." "No Sir, I still have a little to do" "Well, I better leave you to finish it up then." Jesse's dad was bursting with pride as he went down stairs to tell his wife what a wonderful son they had. While Pops took Jesse home Josh finished his homework and texted Billy. He told him about the kiss. He called Jesse a loveable big lug and Billy would love too once he got to know him. Around 9:30 Pops gave Josh his meds and told him it was time for his sponge bath.By giving him the meds before the bath he was hoping the washing wouldn't get Josh aroused. Josh was disappointed but did as he was told. The bath went as Pops planed Josh was asleep in Pops' bed by 10:00. Pops got his own meds and closed up the house. For Josh Tuesday had finally come, Hopefully, Doc Brown would have something good to say. He took his morning Advil with breakfast instead of the pain pills so he would stay awake. The appointment was for 10;00 so for sure they would be time when Jesse came with the assignments. Doc Brown ever so gently removed the bandage which was getting kind of scroungy and smelly by now. First the ace bandage then the protective hard plastic and finally the supportative tape. His hands were so gentle and soft; Josh was actually enjoying the experience. His boy parts were beginning to show. "Don't worry about it Josh I have that effect on many of my patients." Josh played dumb ," What doc " Doc laughed, "You have a spear growing between your legs" "Ohh that, yeah it happens all the time" Josh said as nonchalantly as possible. "Well my super star basketball player with the genius IQ. How does it feel? Still pretty sore?" "I guess you want the truth doc." "Yeah, it usually helps." "It still hurts doc, sometimes real bad. And Pops has been helping me lots even flushing the toilet and stuff so I don't bend any more than is absolutely necessary." "Thanks for telling the truth. It makes it easier for me to help you heal." "Yeah well Pops had a talk with me about that I don't want anyone thinking I'm a baby but if it hurts I can't hide and have to tell the truth." "Your Pops is absolutely right.... He is a very smart man; even a genius like you should listen to him." "Ohh I do sometimes I listen to him the second time and wished I had listened the first time but I'm learning to listen a lot better. He told me he would help me get up out of the tub. I said I could do it. I fell down from the pain and asked him why didn't I listen to him. He said because teenage boys want to think they are indestructible." Doc laughed, "Well you are learning slowly I guess but learning. Now. Here's what I think; you are still too sore to go back to school. I want you to go to physical therapy every day for the next week I'll write a prescription. There are treatments that they can do that will accelerate your healing. The main idea is to get as much healing blood to the damaged area as possible. They'll use ice to numb it; heat to bring the blood as well as electrical and infra red therapy to stimulate the healing. Let's see how that works. Maybe by next Tuesday I'll be able to clear you to go back to school. You know Josh, you are very lucky. Broken ribs as bad as you have often lead to a punctured lung. So we have to get you right and make sure when you go back to school that something doesn't happen to cause that." "OK doc at least I'll be doing something. If I can go to therapy in the morning and my friend Jesse comes in the afternoon with my school assignments. I'll be a little busy." "Good thinking buddy. Just so you know I sent a report to your coach at your grandfather's request. I told them the biggest, meanest, toughest, NFL lineman wouldn't play with the damage you had and the referees who allowed it and the coach who instructed his team to do this should be barred from school boy athletics in this and every other state." "Thanks doc." Doc bandaged Josh up again and sent him home. Pops had the task of finding a PT place close by. Josh asked if he could do morning treatments. Pops found a place, actually it was run by Bobbie Edwards dad. Who was more than happy to help Josh in any way he could and promised Pops that Josh would receive the best care he knew how to give. Jesse came over with the assignments and told Josh that there was a rally & assembly scheduled for Friday last period. Coach was to give each player the basketballs that said team MVP and state champs. Josh said " That nice, that's really cool, maybe take some pictures for me the doc hasn't cleared me to return to school." "Ohh, I thought he was to clear you today." "I thought so too. He said my ribs were still to sore and unstable. If I got bumped the wrong way I could puncture my lung." Jesse got all quite. "Well either we figure a way for you to be there or I'm not going and I gonna ask the rest of the team not to go too." "Come on, Jesse don't be silly. Go enjoy the rally. Hey you earned it." "Nope no F'in way. You are not there they reschedule it or something. That's not right. You got your ribs busted getting that championship and you deserve to get your ball with the team. That's it no Josh no Rally I'll see to it." "I think you are being silly. You'll change your mind talk to your dad and the coach before you make a big stink." Jesse's mom had been waiting. She beeped the horn. Pops Said "Jesse your mom is waiting." "O, Pops I'll be right there...Well I'll bring your work tomorrow and I'll ask my mom if I can stay." "OK see ya" Pops walked Jesse out to his mom's car. He got in. Pops introduced himself to Jesse's mom, Karen Harvey. Jesse kept saying "it's not fair I'm not going to allow it." Finally, Karen had to say "what's not fair." "They are having a rally and an assembly for the team on Friday." "That's nice dear, what's so unfair about that." "Josh can't go, he is still out of school till next Wednesday at best and that's another maybe. I don't care, I won't go and I'll get a bunch of the team not to go with me. It's not right." Pops said "Jesse you know Josh's injury is pretty serious. If he gets bumped the wrong way, one of his broken ribs could puncture his lung and that could be life threatening. But I'll talk to his doctor and Bobby Edwards dad to see if something can be done. The school is not going to look favorably on a revolt by you and the team. I'll also talk to coach. I'm sure they didn't know Josh would not be allowed back to school when they scheduled the assembly. Just relax but if he can't go and it can't be re-scheduled remember it's way better for him to heal than risk another injury." "OK, but I'm still gonna talk to coach and the team. We won as a team and we should celebrate as a team and the kid that did the most for us to win, who got busted ribs, has to be allowed to be there. That's what I'm saying. I don't want Josh to risk being hurt any worse but then we celebrate when he can be there." Pops said again " Take it slow and calm down give the school a chance to make this right. I know you are upset but no one planed this to cut Josh out of anything. They just didn't know. Talk to the coach if you want but don't issue ultimatums. If you feel you the need to say anything say you'll talk to the team to see what can be done; nothing more about a protest." "OK Pops you are right; it's such like every time something happens it's Josh who's getting screwed." "I know but remember you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. No one did this on purpose. I know you can be very charming all 14 year old boys know how to butter up their parents. So be charming when you talk. " "Thanks Pops, I will." Karen said, "Thanks Pops now I know why I hear so many good things about you." "Bah, I'm just a grumpy old man." Pops said with a wink. Pops went inside. "Jesse is not gonna take no regarding you not being at the assembly, Josh." "Yeah, he's pretty wound up about it. I mean I would like to be there but not if it means puncturing a lung. I want to get this healed and get back to school." "I'm gonna call doc Brown and see what he has to say." Pops went right the phone and got the doc. Explained the situation and asked if he had any suggestions so it would be alright for Josh to go. "Hmm high school can be a pretty rough place for a person in Josh's condition that's why I don't want him to go. I'm sure you know I've taking a liking to Josh and it would be a shame for him to miss the assembly. Do you think he would accept being in a wheel chair?" "Maybe if it was the only way he could go." "Here's what I'll tell you. He goes to just the assembly. Maybe the team can be his escort, body guards if you will. No one slaps him on his back; no one hugs the life out of him; no one punches him in the arm. No racing the wheel chair. I would like to go myself and I know Kevin Edwards will be there as well. It is after all my alma mater. You know I played ball there and we went to the state final but lost to Madville and the same mean SOB of a coach. I would love to give these boys a cheer and especially Josh for an amazing accomplishment. What time is it on Friday." " I think about 2:00 , I'll make sure for you; Thanks a bunch doc." "OK, I'll see if Kevin has a wheel chair he can loan us for the occasion. I expect the press will be there; ask coach if I can have a few minutes of their time while I'm there." "Will do doc; Thanks again." Pops hung up the phone "Hey Josh doc said you can go on one condition." "Really, what's that." Pops smirked "You have to be in a wheel chair and the team has to guard you." "Aww, Pops they'll think I am a crippled or something maybe even dying." "These are his words No one slaps you on your back; no one hugs the life out of you; no one punches you in the arm. No racing the wheel chair... He said his Hopewell team went to final against Madville and lost against the same mean coach. He wants to go to cheer you guys.... Should I tell him to forget it; you won't go in the wheel chair." Resigned Josh said "No Pops I'll go in the chair. Can I at least stand up to get my ball." "Well I didn't ask him that" "Don't Pops!! Don't ask him.!! Maybe I'll surprise him." "OK son, but don't get head strong and overdo and make a scene and have doc have to do an emergency something on you." "Do you me a favor and call Jesse tell him you are going and then I have to speak to him." Josh dialed Jesse. "Hey bud I know you were upset about me not going to assembly. Well Pops called Doc Brown and he said I could go to the assembly. "Wow that's great news !! You made my day I was going to declare World War Three if you didn't go." "I know I saw the look in your eye. Hey Pops wants to talk to you about some arrangements," Pops got on the phone, "See Jesse calm wins all the time remember that." "I will sir, thanks so much it just wouldn't have been right if he wasn't there." "I know, now here's the conditions: he'll only go for the assembly; he goes in a wheel chair so he doesn't trip or fall or someone bump into his ribs; the team is his body guard; no one slaps him on his back; no one hugs the life out of him; no one punches him in the arm. No racing the wheel chair. I guess regular handshakes are OK but no pulling or tugging. Can you arrange that?" "Yes sir, I can. I'll tell coach" "Good boy" Jesse put the phone down and let a woop. Josh was a little less pleased and wooping wasn't on his agenda these days. Secretly Josh was happy, his heart had sunk a little when Jesse said the assembly was Friday. He needed to be with the team again. Pops called coach told of Doc Brown's plan and him wanting to speak to the press while he was there. Pops asked "did you coach the team Doc was on" "Yes I did and he was a heck of a player. His Jersey is hanging in the trophy case as well as his MVP award." He was high scorer every year, he was here. We really needed one more player to compliment him. Kind of like what we have today with Josh and Jesse. As I remember he was baited into a fight with a Madville sub. Finally lost his kool and let the kid have it. Of course he got kicked out of the game and without him we were no match. Today I'm pretty sure it was at the instruction of the same coach that is there today. Sure I'll give him time with the press and alert them he has something to say." "Good, I expect Jesse will gather the team to guard Josh if you can make it official I expect it would help." "Don't worry about that I expect you'd have a hard time getting to Josh with the team acting as body guards. But I'll mention to the rest of the teachers and the administration. Those boys are not going to let anything happen to their star point guard. Josh went to therapy in the morning and Jesse came by in the afternoon. He stayed for supper one more night and until 5:00 the other nights. Nothing was said about kissing between them. Jesse was loving doing his homework with Josh. He got everything right away and explained it to Jesse. The teachers noticed his improvement and congratulated him on it. He said it was Josh that made the difference. Friday rolled around at his therapy session, Kevin Edwards told Josh & Pops where he would meet them at the school for the assembly. Pops had set up the van with a little wheeled seat so it was not so painful for josh to climb in and out. He would open the door sit on the seat on the van's floor and roll himself in. It was nifty and Josh appreciated Pops figuring it out for him. Pops and Josh had lunch and shortly after went to the school. Pops was to call Jesse when he left and the team had permission to cut the last couple minutes of class to go escort Josh. Jesse reminded them again .. "We are the team and we are his body guard; no one slaps him on his back; no one hugs the life out of him; no one punches him in the arm. No racing the wheel chair. I guess regular handshakes are OK but no pulling or tugging. If something happens and he punctures a lung I'm gonna die and take all you guys with me." They all said, "Don't worry, we won't allow anyone to get to him not even the principal." Pops and Josh rolled up Kevin Edwards had the wheel chair waiting. The team gathered around the van. The all clapped and said hi to Josh or something silly. They all had on their team jerseys. They had Josh's for him but he knew he was not going to be able to put it on. Kevin Edwards came to the rescue with his handy PT scissors cut up the rib side armpit of the jersey and once on Josh taped it so it would stay. The boys kept cracking jokes and Josh kept telling them, don't make me laugh it still hurts. Doc Brown joined up with them. It was quite a procession 4 guys in front 4 guys in back 3 on each side. Bobby Edwards had a crutch for his bad ankle and he was in the lead pointing the crutch at anyone who was in their way. They entered the school hall a couple kids were there as look outs They raced down the main corridor to the auditorium to tell the assemble they were on their way. Down the corridor and through the side door to the auditorium, closest to the stage. As soon as they entered a deafening roar went out from the assembly. The band started up and played we are the champions all the kids and the teachers, team parents and relative and all the staff were all standing and clapping and singing we are the champions followed by we are number one . Goose bumps were running up and down the spines of everyone there. The ovation went on and on there was no stopping the kids or the adults. Some of the women teachers, Mrs. Martin among them were tearing up but they were tears of joy. There was a small flight of stairs to navigate to get to the stage. Bobby pointed his crutch and climbed on stage. Jesse, Mutt and 2 of the other bigger team members grabbed Josh and his chair like it was nothing and brought him onto the stage with the rest of the team following. The boys remained in formation around Josh. The press was snapping pictures anywhere and everywhere. The principal tried to call the assembly together. The ovation only increased; the "WE ARE NUMBER ONE chant was heard again and again. Finally the principal a creative man took off his shoe and banged the podium. He signaled the band to play the national anthem and the assembly came to attention. After the last stanza the principal said, "Wow I I guess you like being state camps." Another roar from the assembly. The principal put up his hand for them to quite. This time it worked. "Well we are very proud of our boys and their hard work in bringing this honor to Hopewell High School." Holding up the championship trophy the principal said " This is our first state champions ship trophy and It will go front and center in our trophy case.... Now I want to turn over the proceeding to Coach Mathews " The principal, Mr. Gordon then took the trophy over to the team congratulated each one and put the trophy in Josh's lap "is that ok there Josh? " "Yeah sure ." "I know you played a hell of a game for us to have this" "Thank you sir" Coach Mathews delayed his talk to let the principal congratulate the team. It wasn't missed by the assembly. They clapped and roared when the trophy was put in Josh's lap. Coach Mathews started his talk. He stressed that this group more than any other was really a team. They worked like a well oiled machine on their trapping defense. The work that it took to build up the stamina in their bodies as well as the focus it took to make the defense work. He talked about the energy it took to run the fast break and when that strategy was not working the fortitude it took to stay the course. He talked about the new kids who joined the team and the acceptance of them by the others. How they rallied around them and how they made the team better by bringing more effort from the original boys. He talked about each player finding something that they did to help the team win either in the regular season or in the playoffs. He called them up one by one and congratulated them for being part of team MVP. Each one got a special ovation. He held out his star players till the last. As the players were given their balls Josh told Jesse he'll throw the ball right back at the coach if he is stopped from getting and walking over to get it like everyone else. Jesse whispered to Bobby, Mutt and the rest of the players. That Josh will get up and get his ball but the team will follow him. Coach went on and now "Bobby Edwards the leader of the trap and score more stamina and grit there is not on a basketball court. He lead us into the playoffs and though out the season" Bobby got his ball. The assembly went crazy yelling Bobby Bobby Bobby. "Jesse Harvey, New kid one, Mr. Inside, our low post guy saved the middle of our season and was high scorer in the final game with 27 points." The assembly went wild. Jesse, Jesse, Jesse, was chanted from the rafters. "Before giving out the last ball I want to say this player displayed more heart, courage, guile and team play and sportsman ship than I have ever seen on a basket ball court. He joined us late in the year was never in shape and was my secrete weapon in games when we were losing. He came off the bench in the 4th quarter and won us the game time after time . He was called to play just about the entire game without the conditioning of the other boys, in the final game. He scored 15 points and had 18 assists . He was beaten and had 3 cracked rib from the dirty play of the Madville team. He never said he was hurt or complained he just kept bouncing back up. New Kid 2, Josh Fitzgerald." The crown roared and stood and clapped like crazy. The coach started walking toward Josh. But Josh gave him such a look in his eyes that he stopped. Jesse and Mutt helped Josh out of the chair Bobby took hold of the trophy the whole team followed him up to get his ball. Holding his side Josh accepted the ball. The whole assembly was shouting Josh, Josh, Josh. Someone shouted speech, speech, and the rest of the assembly picked it up. Coach looked at Josh and then at the podium and pointed to where he was to go. Josh gave the Ball to Jesse to hold. Josh leaned on the podium "Wow, this is not fair no one else had to speak." The crowd chuckled. "You know after we won the game I told coach that we only won by one point. If Jesse hadn't scored 27 points, if someone didn't rebound like maniac Mutt" They were laughing now he had them and for the first time in his life he was enjoying speaking to the crowd. " If Bobby hadn't hurt his ankle the game would have been a lot easier for me because I won't have had to go in." Again they chuckled. "The point is though that we stayed together as a team. We played the game the right way, If anyone of us hadn't done their job the game would have gone to Madville. On the last play think about the player who inbounded the ball so I got a perfect pass and the 3 screeners who got rocked so I could get an open shot. Think about coach who kept us together and drew up the play. So don't just think about the last shot think about the whole game and the great team work it took for us to win. Think about all of you who supported this team though out the year; your support whether we were winning of losing you always had our backs, and the teachers who helped us keep our grades up and you parents who got us to practices and games driving all over the state, also making sure we got feed. " The kids were all cheering now everyone on their feet. "This is for you it is for all of Hopewell township and High School . Thank You for all you did. I'm gonna sit down now." Holding his side Josh gingerly but gamely made it back to his chair. The kids were stomping their feet chants of Josh, Josh, Josh were followed by the band playing we are the champions again it took 5 minutes for Coach to restore order. Jesse whispered, "Wow what a speech, did you practice it Josh." "Heck no I didn't want to talk but they kept yelling for me to say something. Coach was pointing to the podium what was I to do." Coach said " One more time your Hopewell High School State Championships Freshman Basketball Team." He waved for the boys to come to the front and center of the stage. They spread out across the stage and waved as friends and family all called their names and took pictures. Coach got back on the mic "the alumnae has prepared some refreshment in the cafeteria All are welcome.... Would the members of the press please meet with me and Doc Brown in room 101 right opposite the main entrance to the auditorium." The team got in formation around Josh. Bobby pointed his crutch and down the stairs they went to the cafeteria. Doc Bown and Coach and the members of the press who were there went to room 101. Doc Brown started his talk. "I guess it was about 10 years ago now that my Hopewell High School team made it to the state finals. I was a pretty good scorer back then. We were winning late into the 1st half. All game, this kid had been fouling me grabbing my shorts punched me in the privates, kept saying nasty things about my family, called my mother a slut. The ref's did nothing coach was screaming at them. Finally I lost it and swung at the kid and I got kicked out of the game. It was the same Madville Coach, Dan Short who instructed the kid to do all the dirty, stuff. Coach Mathews saw him talking to the ref's before the game but we don't know what was said. Well for Hopewell to say anything would have been sour grapes because we lost and I was in the wrong for trying to clobber the kid. Fast forward to this year's game, Madville has the same Coach Dan Short. This time though we have found out that one of the ref's is his cousin. Josh Fitzgerald is beaten to an inch of his life and I literally mean that. No NFL player would have played with the rib injury that Josh had,. If a piece of the rib had broken off and punctured his lungs he might not be here today. Luckily it didn't. How he hid it and kept playing is a medical marvel. Josh has a very high IQ. The mind is a very powerful organ. It can block pain if the person is strong enough and motivated enough. Josh was extremely motivated to with the game and championship. That is the only way I can explain it. The pounding of Josh started after a time out by Madville 2 minutes into the start of the 2nd half and didn't end until his last shot went in. He was run into and knocked down 12 times during the game . The ref's called 1 offensive foul and 3 blocking fouls on Josh and the other 8 times no harm no foul. As he ran around screens on his last shoot one boy elbowed him in the head another in the ribs and a third missed because Josh ducked an elbow at his head. No calls from the ref's. This is all pretty visible on the film that coach has here. The reason I asked you here is I think there was collusion between the refs and coach Dan Short and I think Dan Short ordered his boys to hurt Josh to get him out of the game. At one point coach Mathews swears he hears Dan Short scream at his boy to hit Josh harder. This is not what High School Boy athletics should be about. Teaching your players to win at all costs to play dirty and to somehow control the referees and the fairness of the game is not what School Boy Athletics is about. I'm asking you to join me in asking the state school boy athletic association to open a hearing to investigate these charges against Dan Short and the referees. Having your cousin referee the state championship game reeks of collusion. Now if some of you want; coach Mathews will show you the film of the game so you can see for yourself the pounding Josh got at the instruction of Dan Short. My medical report is also there on file and I can produce x-rays to verify Josh's injuries as needed." The basketball team with Bobby leading the way stayed in formation down the corridor into the cafeteria . Bobby pointing his crutch and saying make, make way to anyone that was in the way. Everyone was smiling from ear to ear. As they passed other kids the team ( all except Josh) were pounded on their backs and congratulated by the other boys; most of the girls just giggled and swooned. A few of the more courageous ones grabbed one of the team around the neck and gave him a kiss on the cheek. Jesse kept them in formation saying, " No one slaps him on his back; no one hugs the life out of him; no one punches him in the arm. No racing the wheel chair."Josh had charge of the trophy again. He was carrying it on his lap again with the team MVP Ball. They went into the cafeteria and everyone clapped again but after a bit it subsided. Jesse got Josh to a what he thought was a safe corner. He put the trophy and ball on a near by table. Most of the team had split off to be with parents and friends. Jesse said he would be back in a minute; he wanted to find his parents, too. Josh said "Go on I'll just sit here and not get in any trouble. I promise. By the way thanks for making a stink, I wouldn't have missed this for the world even if I have to be in this chair." "I don't care what anyone says, including you. You are the MVP and we just couldn't have this celebration without you." "Go find your `rents" Jesse went off Josh's eyes wandered the room everyone was having such a good time; It made him feel like it was all worth it; He would do it all again and risk the cracked ribs again just to see the joy in the room. Across the room was a group of girls. He thought one of them was very pretty. She was small maybe 5'2", blond shoulder length wavy hair in a pony tail, pretty face, cute upturned button nose, very slim may be too much so. He let his gaze fixate on her. The girls were giggling and pushing her it seem towards him. Finally she seemed to day ok and walked toward him. "Hi I'm Jenny." Josh was not used to talking to girls, especially pretty ones. He didn't know what to say. He stammered a bit. "Hhh hi I'm Josh" "Oh yes, I know you are the hero of the game." "Nah, no hero but I was happy to play in it." "How come you're stuck in the chair." "Ooo oh I got some ribs cracked and my doc said I couldn't come unless I was in the chair. He said there was a danger of being bumped and getting my lungs punctured" "Gee that's a bummer, Does it hurt?" "Not so much when I'm sitting like this but when I get up it's kind of bad." "Well I've been given a task." "Yeah, What?" "Well all the boys on the team were given a congratulatory kiss except you." Josh felt it getting a little hot. His cheeks started to flush. Jenny went on " If I'm real careful of your ribs can I give you a kiss. My friends said they'll disown me if I don't kiss you. They said you were super nice and would participate. Do you have a girl friend" "Nnn no, no girl friend." "Am I making you nervous; Is that why you are stuttering?" Josh took a deep breath and said "Yeah a little, I don't get the chance to talk to girls much, especially pretty ones like you." "You think I'm pretty." "Ohh yes very much so." "Then you'd like to kiss me." Josh felt his penis getting ready to make babies. He almost said, "not now stupid we're too young." Josh smiled his best sexiest smile and said "yes, but can it be on the lips." It was Jenny now who felt a little flush and nervous. But she was game, she was sure she wanted to kiss this boy. She didn't know him but really, really, wanted to. "OK' she said and put her hands on the chair and leaned in Josh put his arms around her neck. And gave her a peck and she returned it, he did it again and again she returned the kiss; he then kissed her deep and probed her mouth with his tongue. His penis was raging and Jenny's girl parts were getting all kinds of wet. She loved his tongue in her. The cafeteria became silent as Josh came up for air and let go of her neck Jenny was a little woozy. The cafeteria let out a big woop of applause and all said "congratulations Josh". Jenny kind of smiled and stood to the side. Everyone went back to what they were doing. Jenny said "Thank you very much, my friends won't disown me now." "Glad to help out, I enjoyed it very much. My Pops told me my boys parts aren't very smart. He always wants to make babies. I almost had to say not now stupid we are too young." Jenny burst out laughing. Josh said "Did you like the kiss?" Jenny stopped laughing long enough to say "Yes, my girl parts must have been thinking like your boy parts." It was Josh's turn to laugh this time. Then he said "Would you want to do it again sometime?" "Probably, after all you are the hero of the team" "Cut that out I'm no hero everyone on the team helped win that game. Do you have to go back to your friends right now?" "No not really" "Could you stay with me for a while and tell me about yourself." So Jenny sat down next to Josh at a cafeteria table. "I'll tell about me after you tell about you. Where are from? You show up a 2 months ago; get assigned to remedial classes a month latter you are in college prep. Try out for the team and don't make it and then are on the team and the hero of the championship game. What are you super boy." "How do you know all that stuff about me?" "Girls have their ways, I have friends that know stuff." "Ok, Number one, I'm not super boy or a hero; I would like to stop saying that. It's embarrassing." "Ok, I'm sorry." "Alright here's my story and it's not to blabbed all over school ok." "Ok Josh." "Promise?" "Yes, I promise" "Well my parents died when I was 8 and I went to live with my grandmother. She lost her house with a bad mortgage deal and we were homeless when I was 12. We lived in the shelter system in New York. My grandma died just before Christmas. The shelter director didn't want to kick me to a group home so he called his father. I call him Pops and he is the best thing that's happened to me since my parents died. He lives in Hopewell and says he wants to adopt me. So I'm here at Hopewell High and it's great.... Have you lived here all your life?" "No, my mom died too when I was 10. I never knew my father. There were no relatives to take me in so I'm in the foster system. I had 1 other placement but I've been with the Calushie's for 3 years now. They are nice and I think maybe they'll keep me but they haven't talked about adoption." "Wow you've known your share of hard times too." "I guess so but not like you being homeless." Pops came in the cafeteria after being at the meeting with Doc Brown and Coach Mathews. He spied Josh talking to Jenny. "Hi Josh" `Ohh hi Pops where did you get off to? "I was in the meeting with Doc and coach and the press." "Pops, this is Jenny my new friend." "Glad to meet you Jenny... Say Josh it's getting to be the time to get Billy." " Ohh, OK.... Jenny, Billy is like my foster brother and he's still in the shelter but he comes out to visit us on the weekends." Jenny reached over and took Josh's hand, took out her pen and wrote her phone number on it. Pops smiled, Josh turned red again. "I have to get back to my friends now Josh. It was really nice talking to you." "Same here Jenny, I'll call you." "For someone who doesn't talk to girls; you are awful smooth Josh Fitzgerald." "Only with pretty ones." Josh said back. "You hitting on me" "Maybe" "Ok, stop the teasing, I gotta go." Jesse and his parents came up. Jesse said, "I didn't want to interrupt you there Mr. Smooth... She is cute... That was some kind of congratulations kiss she gave you buddy." Pops said, "I really don't want to leave Billy roaming the mall" Jesse said "Oh I didn't know you had to go. I'll wheel you out. Then get the chair back to Bobby's dad." Josh said, "I don't think I need the big escort. It was fun though with Bobby leading with his crutch. Thanks for all you did Jesse. I had a great time." Jesse started pushing Josh toward the cafeteria exit. A bunch of kids noticed and chanted Josh, Josh, Josh as he rolled out into the corridor. Jesse said, "another nice send off, You are getting to be one popular guy." "Cut it out, you're as bad as Jenny calling me a hero.... Jeeze you scored 27 of our 63 points almost half. " " That's what she called you hero huh; Sounds serious to me lover boy." Josh put up his hand to make Jesse stop, "Enough already I'm no hero" Jesse said let me see you hand.; as he grabbed hold of Josh's hand. "Is that a phone number on your hand, Looks like a girl's fine hand writing.... Oh she must be sweet on you." Josh turned red again. Mercifully they were out the doors and by Pops van. Pops had been enjoying the teasing Jesse had given Josh. It was good natured and only the kind of thing a friend could do. Jesse said "I'll see you next week with your homework." Josh said "thanks again buddy you are the best. I had a great time." Into the van on Pops's special seat and they were off to get Billy. Pops asked, "So what's this about a kiss?" "Well Jenny said her friends would disown her if she didn't kiss me. All the other guys on the team got kissed by someone as we went to the cafeteria, except me. All got a peck on the cheek. When she asked me if she could kiss me; I got crazy weird and told her I wanted it on the lips. She got close to me, I put my arms around her neck and we exchanged a couple peck kind of kisses then I weirded out a again and french kissed her." "Well how did that turn out." "Pretty good, I told her what you said about my boy parts not being very smart; they want to make babies all the time. Then I said I had to tell him not now stupid we are way too young." Pops laughed and laughed. "What happened" She laughed just like you did. She also said her girl parts were having the same issue. Which I found quite funny.... Pops do girls like sex as much as guys?" "Yeah I'm pretty sure but they have to be more careful and a boy with a girl has to respect that." Pops and Josh got Billy they told him all about the rally. Billy said he got goose bumps just having them tell about the kids and their chanting and cheering. He doubled over laughing when he was told about the principal taking his shoe off and pounding on the podium. "Wow I wish I could have been there." "We would have liked to have you there as well." Pops said but it started at 2:00 you were still in school. Josh gave a good speech." "Really." Josh shook his head and said "nooo " Pops said "well Josh, you got a got a standing ovation and then they chanted your name for over a minute" "That sounds like a pretty good speech" Billy added. They were home and Pops started supper. He planed ham steak with brown beans with bacon, onions, honey and cinnamon. For the vegetable he had corn with peppers and mushrooms. The boys played a little xbox before being called to supper. Josh was able to get around a lot better. He appreciated a hand up from a sitting position but by holding his ribs he was able to walk on his own. Billy was pleased that he was healing, slowly for him but he was better than last week. The boys polished off every last bean and kernel of corn. There was no fear of farting; they were in their man cave. Pops asked the name of the girl Josh was with. Billy said "Girl !! why didn't you tell me about the girl.!!! Pops "I was gonna tell Billy latter" "Ohh sorry to spoil your plan. What was her name again? I thought she was kind of cute." "Jenny ,Pops and she is very cute even pretty. She gave me her telephone number and I'm going to call her as soon as I can figure out what to talk about." "Well you can start by saying thanks for being so nice to me at the rally." "Ok Pops thanks." "You can find out what kind of music she likes." Billy said. "Hey you guys are pretty good at this keep going" "Do you know where she is from Josh?, Pops asked. "No, she's a foster kid; so she's has had it kind of rough too. She hoping she can stay with her foster family." Billy said "Good talk about her foster family." Pops said "there usually is a spring dance at school could maybe even ask her to go with you. Or save you a dance." "That would nice; I would like to dance with her if I knew how." Josh rubbed himself a little. Pops noticed and laughing couldn't help but say. " not know stupid they're too young." Josh laughed so hard he though he split a rib. "Jeeze Pops you know it hurts when I laugh." Billy said "What !! What !! am I missing here." "Sorry Billy we didn't tell you the best part. Josh French kissed Jenny. After they came up for air he told her "My Pops said my boy parts are not very smart. Sorry they always want to make babies. I had to tell him not now stupid we are too young." "Really, OH my God!!! What did she say to that." Josh said "Jenny just laughed and laughed and then she said her girl parts had the same problem." "Well you can always talk about each other's private parts." "I'm not so sure that would be 100% appropriate; especially with her foster parents around." Josh said getting serious. "I know, I know Billy said you can say you wanted to call just to be sure this was her real number. That you had it right." "Hey Billy how many girls have you called; that's really good." "None really but I think about it a lot." "I know, if doc says it's ok I'll ask her if she wants to go to the mall and can she bring a friend for my foster brother." Pops said "That's a good idea. It's always easier to get to know someone on the first, dare I say date, if they have a friend along that they can trust. If her foster parents want to drive her they can or if not I can drive all of you. Another place you can go would be monster golf. Sometimes you need something to do as well as talk about." "What's monster golf, Pops?" "Sorry I've taken Aries and Katie there. It's miniature golf ,inside with all kinds of florescent painting and figures. It's kind of dark but you can see pretty well. I think you'll like it. There are other arcade games there as well." "Yeah that sounds way better than the mall. Good Idea Pops; We're going to have to change your name to match maker. " "Should I call her now?" "I think so make sure you ask if she's done with diner" Billy said ,"you can be honest too and tell her you nervous but really wanted to call her. My mom says doing something like that makes trust you more." Billy, "You are really smart about this." "I'm just hoping she has a pretty friend who won't think I'm a jerk." Pops said "go on inside and I'll clean up diner. I don't want to listen in on your conversation." "Thanks Pops" came the reply in unison. Josh got his phone, "Here goes", Billy crossed his fingers. "Hello" "Jenny is that you" "yes who else would be on my phone." "Sorry Jenny, This is, Josh I was just making sure I had your number right some of it rubbed off." Jenny decided to play coy, "Josh uhh Josh who." "Come on Jenny, It's me Josh Fitzgerald. Am I interrupting your dinner." "No" "That's good, I really enjoyed talking to you today, I'm glad you picked me to give the congrats kiss to." "Hey well you took it to another level." "I'm sorry, I'm not very good at this; to be honest you are the first girl I really kissed. I don't know what happened to me. You're so pretty I just had to do it. Forgive me please" "So why did you call." "Gosh Jenny you are not making this easy for me I want to get to know you better. You know you are the first girl I ever called." "Really" "Yes really Jenny you didn't kiss like it was the first time." "I read about it some. You are really the first girl I kissed. Am I being a jerk calling you? Am I doing something wrong?", "No, all my friends say you have to keep a boy in his place and make him kind of beg for every thing." "Ohh" "I can't do that to you. I'm sorry. I liked talking to you too and the kiss; Gosh Josh you literally took my breath away and made me woozy. I've never been kissed like that." "So would you like to see me, again." "Yeah that would be kool." "I have a doctors appointment Wednesday. If he says it's alright would you like to go out Saturday night." "uuhh Let me check my schedule." "Jenny, stop teasing me." "I would love to, what do you want to do?" "Have you ever been to monster golf; I talked to my Pops and he said it would be a good place to go for a first date. Would it be a boy / girl date to you Jenny?". "I have been there that place is fun." "Jenny there is one other thing and I would like to bring my foster brother BIlly and I was hoping you would bring a friend for him." "That's a great idea Josh; I've never been on a boy / girl date either. If we both bring a friend along it's make thing a lot less awkward." "Wow that's great Billy is a great brother to me I think you'll like him. The other thing, he will be able to make sure I don't do something stupid to my ribs." "How are your other boy parts Josh?" "Excited about going on a boy girl date. But I'll have a good talking to him, to calm him down.... While we are on the subject how are your girl parts." "Josh Fitzgerald, you shouldn't ask such a question, but if you must know excited as well." "You asked about my parts." "Yeah, well that is different I'm a girl I can ask those kinds of things." "Ohhh, I didn't know there are different rules for girls'. Do you want me to send you a picture of Billy? I'm a guy but I would say he's good looking. The only thing he's still in the shelter and comes out to visit on weekends. You don't think that's a problem do you?" "Yes send me the picture; I'm going to ask Rabecca first she's like my best friend and she doesn't have a boyfriend and it she says yes I'll send you her picture. Is this your cell phone?" "Yes it is and It's a smart phone so it'll send and receive pictures and text all the regular stuff." "The number I gave you is my cell phone too." "Good Jenny, I'm so happy I called you. Even though you gave me a hard time. If you were here I'd want to kiss you again." "Gee, Josh, you are getting me all excited again. I think I would like that." "Jenny I'm gonna hang up now because Mr. happy would want me to play with him. If I keep talking to you about kissing." "Really Josh, don't you have any self control." "I don't think so not when it comes to kissing you. You are so pretty and sweet. You are the girl of my dreams." "Josh where did you come up with that line." "I just made it up and it's true." "Josh Fitzgerald you are too smooth." "Is that good? " "Yeah I think with you it is because I believe you. See me Billy's picture, ok " "OK I'll call you during the week as soon as I here from doc." "Good night Josh" and Jenny made a kissing sound into the phone. "Good night Jenny", Josh made a kissing sound into the phone and hung up. Billy went and took a shower. And then put on his nicest T Shirt and Jeans. Josh took pictures with the phone camera. Billy picked one that he thought was good. Josh sent it in a text. Jenny texted back "Hey he is cute!! I'll go with him and Rebecca can have you. LoL only teasing." Billy got on Joshs's phone and said "this is Billy and I kiss better than Josh. Can I text you?" Jennie ask him for his phone number and Billy of course gave it. Copied Billy on the text to Rabecca "This hottie wants to go out with you can I send him your picture. Or do you want to send it yourself his number is 914 767 1243." Bill got a text with a very pretty brunet haired girl about 5'4" sparkling blue eyes in a 2 piece bath suit with the note, "this is from the shore last summer." Billy copied Josh's line and said "his boy parts were getting very excited." Rebecca said "Good, I like to get cute boys excited." She was a little more daring than Jennie and actually push Jennie to kiss Josh. She never figured Josh would make her kiss him on the lips and French kiss. The teasing and banter went back and forth but it was all pretty clean. Pops cut it off at 10:00 o'clock figuring the girls parents might not want them texting with the boys latter than that. That night the boys didn't what to fool around with each other but they did need to alleviate some sexual energy. Josh thoughy it was funny that since he was turned on by Jennie he didn't want to do stuff with Billy. Maybe he would again but not right now. The date all hinged on Doc Brown clearing Josh on Wednesday. Saturday was not so exciteg they played xbox. Josh got caught up on some home work. They texted the girls a little. Josh rested his ribs. Billy enjoyed staying inside with Josh and Pops. Pops was working on a couple projects like cleaning the mildew out off of the bath room tile. Billy saw him doing it and needed something to do as Josh just had his pain pill. He enjoyed helping Pops and giving back a little for all he had given him. He scrubbed and scrubbed on the tile till every spec of mildew was off. Pops was so appreciative that he tried to give him money. Billy was highly upset and gave Pops an emphatic no. Pops did get a phone call from Jessie's parents the Harvey's and they wanted to know if they could stop by tomorrow with a proposal. Pops said sure after church they could have a coffee together. Pops got the boys to church and Josh saw Jennie at mass. Billy had never seen Jennie and said she was very cute. Josh sat during most of the mass; an older lady thought it strange until he limped up to communion holding his side. Josh couldn't really talk to Jennie more than to say hello and exchange family introductions with her foster family. The Calushie's had a total of 4 children including Jennie. They were all introduced as their children so no hint was given if any other besides Jennie were foster kids. Pops, wanted to get back for his meeting with the Harvey's. They stopped on the way home for some of the bakery jelly donuts and a few pastries. Got the water in the coffee hot and the door bell rang. Billy got the door while Pops finished tiding up the kitchen. Jesse had come along as well. "Come in Mr. & Mrs. Harvey can I take your costs." "And you must be Billy" "Yes mam," Billy answered as he gathered the coats. Josh labored a bit but pulled himself up and side hi as well. He lit up when he saw his friend Jesse there as well. "Hi Jesse." Pops came out of the kitchen and asked the Harvey's to join him. The boys tagged along. They complimented the coffee and donuts. Pops said they were from the bake shop so much better than those donut places on the highway. Pops, asked "Boys why don't you take your coffee and donuts inside while I talk to Jesse's parents." They knew when they were being shooed out of ear shot and complied with out and argument. "Now folks what's on your mind." Mr. Harvey spoke up. "When I was in high school I had a great friend and after we went to college together. In college we made another friend, Andy Sloan; after college we opened our own business. We call it PHS engineering. I have to say it's been pretty successful. Doug Perriman and Andy Sloan have been lifelong friends. We now have over 50 employees. I like to think it is a business of "people helping people by building a better world." That's actually our motto. Anyway, Jesse is getting older and I kind of want the same of the same as I had for him. He always talks about Josh and Billy and how lucky he is in comparison. So I would like to establish a college fund for both boys. It'll not be enough for Harvard or Yale or schools like that but I hope it will be enough for any of the state Universities. No one knows what the future will be but at least this way there's a chance for Jesse to have Josh and maybe Billy as life long friends like I've had. Anyway that's my hope and It would be an honor if you would allow me to do this for them. There will be no strings or conditions on the college funds other than they be uses for college." Pops was blown away by the generosity of this man. "Wow, I don't know what to say. That is extremely generous of you Mr. Harvey." "Hey if Karen and I can call you Pops, I would appreciate it if you called me Jack." "OK Jack it is then... I really can't speak for Billy at least not legally. I'm sure his mother would agree. I mean who wouldn't. They are still in the shelter system in NY. She's really a god person working weekends to make enough to get food during the week at McDonalds and during the week she is taking a job training computer course." "Hmm I see I wasn't fully aware of Billy's circumstances." Karen said, "Jack could you get her a job? .... I heard a story about you Pops, going out in to the New Years Blizzard.. Is it true did you go out in that foul weather and save Billy's mom. " "Well the boys and I did take a ride in the snow and were so grateful we found Annie and she had no serious complication from being in the weather." Karen spoke up again, "Jack Harvey you find a way to get that woman a decent well paying job. What if that was me struggling to find a way to provide for Jesse. Pops, saved her life; now you do your part." Pops again was blown away "Karen calm down now I think I can do something. Just don't get all emotional on me. We always have need of computer analyst. I can set up a test for her and as long as she shows good aptitude we can hire her. We start those jobs at around $50,000.00 with advancement up to $80,000.00 I think we even have an opening now. " Karen leaned over and gave her husband a kiss. "I knew there was a reason I loved you. Me I'm the hot head Pops, that's were Jesse gets it from. Jack is always so cool and calm and getting me out of trouble after I open my trap." "Well you are a wonderful generous couple can we tell the boys of your proposals.... Jack nodded. "Jack tell Billy about the job possibility for his mom last if not he'll not hear a word you say. Can I call them in" "Please" "Josh, Billy, Jesse come here please" "Pops I was just about to kill Jesse on Xbox." Josh exclaimed. "Well that makes up for the time I was gonna kill you but had to leave." Jesse said. Billy just tagged along smiling at the two buds. Pops said, "Thank God that game is just fantasy other wise we'd be having a capital murder charge every week..... Mr. Harvey has something he wants to tell you." Josh sat down so his ribs wouldn't hurt. The other 2 boys stood and grabbed another donut each, "Well," Jack said, "When I was in high school I had a great friend and we even went to college together. We meet another friend while in college and the three of us went into business together. Anyway I got to thinking what a blessing it was to have my friends with me all these years. Now I'm a little selfish when it comes to Jesse after all he is my son. I know Josh and him are great friends and I heard Josh and Billy were great friends. So I've set up a college fund for both of you boys. It's be for the state Universities and the fund will only be for college but it should be enough for you to get through." "Wow really dad. Jesse said and went over to hug him." Josh and Billy did know what to say. Josh sat with his mouth open and shook and Billy was same except he was standing. Pops said "say something boys." Josh stammered " IIIm shocked I don't know what to say thank so much Mr. Harvey. I'll try to make you proud that you are doing this. Wow." Josh struggled to his feet and hugged Mr. Harvey as well as his mom. Billy's reaction was the same sheer disbelief to maybe it's true and then wow. "Oh, Billy, there is one other thing I heard your mom was taking computer courses. We have an opening for a computer analyst and I was wondering if your mom would like to apply. As long as she passes the aptitude test the job will be her's, if she wants it. It would be good if she took the test as soon as possible." "Billy started to cry. He stammer "iff sshe wwants it....We been praying this for 3 years, mom has been staying up sometimes all night studying..... Ohhhh WWWow , I never thought it would happened..... " Billy ran over to Mr Harvey and said "Thank you, thank you thank you. I know she'll pass the test I know she will." Then he hugged Jack around his neck and kissed him then he went Mrs. Harvey tears streaming down his face and hugged her and kissed her and he ran to Jesse. Jesse held up his hand and said "hugs ok; no kisses." He hugged Pops and Josh and said "I don't believe it, I don't believe it. If I'm dreaming don't wake me up. Thank you so much. " He was still crying and his emotion was caught by Karen who also was shedding tears of joy. Pops and Jack Harvey were getting misty too as was Josh, even Jesse was feeling the release of Billy's homeless pain. All the years of hoping and praying were flooding out him. "Can I call her now." Pops said "Jack I think it's best if you give me the contact information and I'll get her there. I think Billy as well as all of us are a little emotional right now." Jack said, "I've never seen such emotion over getting a job, my God what has the world done to these folks." Jack mentioned "He wanted to ask Josh about a project him and Jesse had thought about. Billy came in with his phone and was telling his mom the news. She was taking Billy's info with a grain of salt and asked to talk to Mr. Harvey. Mr. Harvey got on the phone. Annie "is it true are you offering me a job without even seeing me?" "Yes I am, I've heard from the best sources that you are a good person and as long as you pass the aptitude test you'll have the job. The salary is $50,000.00 a year with health benefits and vacation and holidays and paid sick time, Five days a week Monday through Friday although there might be the need of some over time every once in a while." "oohh mmmy , ohh my. Ohh God yes, yes, yes, yes. Thank You so much Mr. Harvey Thank you thank you, thank you." "OK Mrs. Nunez I'm going to give the contact information to Pops here. After you calm down you can call him and start the process. You'll have to see my human services manager. He'll give you the test. Pops will have the information for you to contact him. Please do it as soon as possible this week so we don't hire someone else in the interim. Are you ok Mrs. Nunez." "Oh yes sir I am just fine, wonderful actually. Thank you again Mr. Harvey. I'll get myself calmed down and call Pops a little latter. I'll do my best for you sir. Thank you again" Karen said, "I love you Jack" Jesse said, "That was awesome dad." Everyone had a smile from ear to ear. Jack said, "That did seem to go pretty good; didn't it." Billy was dancing around in circles with Josh, doing stupid stuff. Jack then gave Pops the contact info for his human services manager. "I'll sent him an email to alert him to Annies call... How will Annie get out to Oakville?" Pops said "I'll get her from the bus station and drive her. I'll be no bother really after all you've done for these boys and Billy's mom." "Just fulfilling a selfish little fantasy of mine maybe they might come to work at our company" Josh spoke up "what did you want to ask me Mr. Harvey" "Oh Yes, Josh thanks for reminding me. Jesse and I dreamed up a very inexpensive housing project for the homeless and we wanted your input. Jesse go get the drawings you did out in the car" Jesse was gone & back in a flash. "See Jesse wanted to come up with cheap but sturdy housing that could be quickly assembled. So we came up with the idea of using used out of service trailers. They would be painted with a new water proof roof, insulated with spray insulation and then windows and doors cut in. Two trailers would be joined together and would be 20 ft x 40 for 800 Square Feet. I was concerned with the amount of living space and utilities." Jesse said "the idea was one half would be kitchen and living space and utilities, the other half is for 2 bedrooms and a bath." Josh said "You did this, Jesse" Jack said "Yes Jesse, did the drawings and I just gave a couple of ideas along the way" "Wow Jess yes this is fantastic. How is it heated?" Jesse said there would be 1 large heat and air conditioning exchanger on the living area side and 1 smaller unit in each of the 2 bedrooms. The complex would run off of roof top solar panels. There would be a central core for walk up stairs and elevator as well as plumbing water supply and waste. Each unit would have it's own hot water heater and a small apartment sized washer and dryer. The kitchen would have an electric range, refrigerator and dishwasher. What do you think?" "Wow, Jesse you thought of everything" "Oh, one other thing we would put them in place of foreclosed off the tax rolls building site. Come in knock down the existing building use the existing water and electrical hook ups" "Hey shelter people would die to get into one of these palaces." "You think so." "They would fight for it really. You could have a men's group or a woman's group where they had 2 to a bedroom and shared community room. You could also have a family group where it was committed to one family or possibly 2 to share. I would set it up that the homeless provided sweat equity and helped with the building and construction. For sure there would be a waiting list and anyone one who didn't do their community hours into the project lost their space and the next person on the list took their place. People should be drug tested weekly to make sure they are working to become responsible. Adults would be given job training or be actively seeking work with an employment counselor. After people are working and supporting themselves they either pay a reasonable rent or move out so another homeless tenant could move in. It could go a long way to solving part of the homeless problem where people are capable but not given the chance to get themselves back to being responsible because they are too concerned with surviving. The other that are not capable due to metal illness or physical illness could be placed in a long term situation." "Wow you thought of all that off the cuff, Josh" Mr. Harvey commented. "Well sir, I would like to go into social work after college and get as many people out of the shelters as possible. Jesse's idea here would help tons. How much would it cost? " "Well we are just estimating but 5 units with the core should run around $500,000.00 all in furnished." "Let's just say you are housing 15 to 20 people. Take the low figure of 15 the cost for a person in the shelter is about $30,000.00 a year. So with an average of 17 people they break even in the first year and all downhill after that. This is huge Mr. Harvey huge... Pops do you think we can talk to Luke on this? Luke is Pops son Mr. Harvey and runs the shelter me and Billy are from." "It certainly won't hurt to get his input; I'll see what he says.... Are these your only drawings." "Yes but I'll get a couple more sets made to the office and bring them home." "How about scanning into a PDF and then they can be transfer much easier?" Billy added. Jack smiled and chuckled a bit. "What did I do funny" Billy said. "Oh nothing funny Billy you are just so quiet and observant and then you hit the nail on the head, just like my friend, Andy Sloan. I hope my plan for you boys staying together works. I would love for Jesse to always have you guys to lean on. But I said there were no strings and I meant that.... What do you think Karen have we stayed long enough?" "Yes, Jack" Karen answered with more love in her voice and eyes than Jack had ever seen. After the Harvey's left Josh said "That was amazing. I didn't know Jesse folks were rich enough to do thing like this." "I suspect that they are comfortable not necessarily rich, rich. I'm sure Mr. Harvey has worked very hard for his company but my guess is not positioned to give free college educations to many people. He's doing what he's doing because he has had friends for life and he wants the same for Jesse. He guessed quite accurately that when college rolled around for you guys you would be hard pressed to come up with the financial end. You know there are a lot of good honest people in the world it's just a shame that the few rotten ones spoil the barrel."
