Hermes -*- Speedo Boys Chapter 26 -- Checking Out Trevor From Last time: They caressed each others bodies with soapy hands making sure not to miss any of the largest organs in their lover's body. (Come on, people, I'm talking about their skin... some of you have really dirty minds!) Neither was brought to release in the shower. This wasn't a night of sex; it was a night of love. Once their shower was completed, they dried each other and walked naked to the bedroom. Devon put on a blues CD to set the mood. Cole listened for a moment and said, "This music is perfect, what is it?" Devon replied, "It's kind of old, but, it's Sade. The name of the song is, 'No Ordinary Love.'" What ensued from that point was an extension of the love they had for each other. They made love to each other for several hours as the same song was repeated over and over before falling to a contented sleep. Chapter 26 -- Checking out Trevor At precisely 10:00am, there was a knock on the door. Melissa had taken a day off work for personal reasons and answered the door. Standing before her was a man dressed in a rather expensive looking suit. He smiled and handed her his business card as he said, "Good Morning, my name is Travis Welch, I believe you are expecting me?" "Yes, do come in Mr. Welch. I'm Melissa Gilbert, we can go to the living room where James and Tom are waiting." She then led him to the living room. Travis introduced himself to the boys. "Hi, I'm James, and this is my boyfriend, Tom." James said without even a touch of embarrassment. Tom shook Travis' hand and asked if he would like a cup of coffee. Travis thanked him, telling him he drank his coffee black, and Tom retired to the kitchen to retrieve drinks. When he returned he had a tray with 2 cups of coffee, one fixed as Melissa liked hers, and two glasses of orange juice. He handed Melissa her coffee, then Travis, then handed James one of the glasses of OJ. Once everyone was seated, Travis asked, "May I see the letter you received, James?" James handed him the letter and everyone was silent as he read it. When he'd finished, Travis turned to James and said, "They obviously want to keep this out of the media, but $10 Million is really nothing to them. What did you have in mind? Remember, my function here is to advise and represent you, not to tell you what to do." "Well, it's a lot of money, but something one of my friends told me got me thinking. I think setting up a charity to help with adoptions by gay and lesbian parents would be a good thing to do. I'd also like to help homeless gay kids, if I can. Since you are here to advise me, what do you think I should do?" James asked. "Well, it's a noble thing to think of others before yourself. I believe that with the net worth the man who hit you left, it would not be a surprise to them to have to come up with more. But, I think I can present this to them in a way that they will absolutely jump at. Let me explain." Travis continued, "You would receive the full $10 Million they are offering to you directly. You would then set up a foundation to handle the charities, and, since I have agreed to do that pro-Bono there would be no fees other than the filing fees of maybe $300 to worry about. Once the foundation was set up, I would have them make a donation to the foundation in the amount of their agreed settlement. That way they could retain the tax benefits from paying out that money, which they would not get paying it directly to you." "How much do you think we should ask for?" Tom asked. "Well, what you want to do can be rather expensive in that you are supporting people doing things through the legal system. Most attorneys charge in excess of $100 per hour and the average adoption can take upwards of 100 hours. Shelters are very expensive to operate, so, if you plan on your foundation doing both you will need a sizable amount of money, I'm thinking about $100 Million in total." The three in the room other than Travis nearly fainted when he said the amount. James, clearly shocked, said, "Do you think they will go for that much? Really?" Travis laughed and said, "Either they will, or they will counter offer. That is the intent, to see what they will go for. If they go for the $100 Million without any fuss, then I will feel I failed in that I should have asked for more. Even though $100 Million is really sufficient for what you want to do, at least at first." They discussed it amongst themselves before James had come to a decision. He told Travis to proceed. Travis produced several documents, and, after explaining it to them asked James to sign and for his mother to sign below him. "Since James is 13", Travis started, "he is able to enter into some kinds of contracts, but one for this much or of this type needs to be counter-signed by his legal guardian, in other words, you, Melissa, as his mother." The documents signed, and counter-signed, Travis told them he'd make contact with the opposing side that same day. As soon as he had more information, he'd let them know. He asked James for the letter, which he promised to return the following day. Having received it, Travis stood, shook hands with everyone and left. James looked to Tom, then at his mother. "Mom, when I get this money, I want you to quit working. You wont need to. You can, if you need something to do, run the foundation." -*- Matt and Michael were sitting at the breakfast table discussing trivial stuff when Michael became reflective. Matt realized this and, after allowing him a few minutes to think asked, "Thinking about your uncle?" "Yeah, I really did enjoy a lot of what he and I did. It showed me what I was. Him doing what he did that last night of my first visit though seems wrong. I really hope he's not doing that to other kids." "Well, if you still want me to, I can call John, my investigator friend." Matt suggested. "Yeah,I think we should." Michael said looking down at the table. Matt grabbed the telephone and called John. "Hi John, it's me, Matt." "Hi Matt! I'm happy to hear from you. I really want to congratulate you on adopting Cole, and I hear you have another foster son." "I do, and that's why I'm calling. Can you come over this morning at some time? If you can make it about 11:30, I'll fix us lunch." Matt requested. "Sure. Since I quit working for the county and started my own agency I seem to have a bit more time on my hands. I sure hope business picks up or I'm going to have to look into getting another job." "Well, this will help then. We can talk more about it in a few hours. See you then." Matt said as he hung up the telephone. He then continued to Michael, "He'll be here at about 11:30. What do you think, should I grill us some steaks?" "Sure, that would be cool... Um..." Michael paused. "You want me to make sure Cole and Devon stay at his house until this afternoon so we can discuss this in private with John?" Matt divined what Michael was worried about. "You know, it's kinda cool how you can tell what is bothering me before I tell you. It makes me feel like you really DO care." Michael said. "Well, it's easy actually since I care more than you can imagine. I'll make the call." Matt picked up his cell and hit the speed dial for Cole. Cole and Devon were lounging around in bed just holding one another after their marathon of cuddling and gentle love the previous night. Cole really liked the fact that they didn't really have to push for sex. Just being together was really awesome. His thoughts were interrupted by his cell ringing. He looked at the caller-id and saw it was Matt. He answered, "Hi Dad." Matt chuckled saying, "You know, it'll take me some time to get used to you calling me Dad. But I do like it. Michael and I had a long talk last night about 'things'. We're having a meeting with John here this morning and I would appreciate it if you and Devon would remain at Devon's at least until 1:30." "Sure Dad, we can do that. I'm glad he talked to you. I still feel like shit about screwing up in the car. Please make sure he knows I'm sorry." "I know he knows how sorry you are, so let's not harp on it. It's done, and as of this moment, it's forgotten." Devon was trying to get Cole's attention. Having done so he mouthed for Cole to send his regards. "Dad, Devon wants me to tell you hi." "Well, tell him hello back and I trust you guys will behave and we'll see you at 1:30. I'll have some steaks here you can grill when you get here." "Okay, Dad. We'll be there, and you don't have to worry. We're probably not even going to leave the bedroom unless we decide to grab some breakfast in a few minutes." "Okay, we'll see you this afternoon. I love you Cole, and tell Devon I love him too." "We love you too, Dad. See ya!" Then Cole ended the call. Michael had overheard the comment about Cole calling Matt 'Dad' and thought about it. When he finally spoke, he said, "Dad, when the time is right, were you considering adopting me too?" Matt smiled at the fact that Michael was trying out the 'dad' title and said, "If that is your desire, I can see what will be necessary. But we probably want to get through your court cases first, don't you think? Speaking of that, I don't want you having to use that Public Defender. Let's see about getting you a top notch Attorney." Michael smiled and stood to give Matt a hug. "To be honest, I wasn't really happy about being placed here at first, but I see now that Cole was right, you are prolly the best dad a guy could have. I won't say I love you yet, but, I'm getting there really quick." "Well," Matt started, "I can say that I truly care about you, Michael, and not if, but when we resolve your legal issues, I'd be happy to have you as another son and I am certain Cole will be stoked about having a brother." They finished their breakfast and went their separate ways for the rest of the morning. Matt started making preparations for their guest while Michael went into his room to work on something. Matt thought about one thing that might be good. He picked up his phone and dialed. When the other party answered he said, "Hi Tom. I have something I'd like to discuss with you and James, can you put me on speaker?" "Sure." A click was heard before Tom said, "Okay, Matt, you're on speaker and James, Melissa, and I are here, the attorney is supposed to be here at 10:00." "Cool, I wanted to know if you guys were still considering that foundation idea." Matt asked. "We are, I think." James said. "I guess we need to see what the lawyer says first though." "Well, I want you to consider one thing. If you do start this, you will need the services of a good investigator to check out the people who are applying for assistance from the foundation. I will ask a favor, if I can. I have a friend who has just started his own investigations agency and I would like to tell him that I may have a foundation that would be interested in using his services from time to time." "Um, I guess. You have helped us a heck of a lot so I guess we can help your friend if you want. But it wont be for a while yet." Tom said. "Fine. I just wanted to give him a light at the end of the tunnel. I can tell you though, from my experience you might eventually need to hire him as an exclusive. You will keep him really busy." "Okay, we'll see what the lawyer says." James said. They exchanged pleasantries and agreed to talk more after they heard what was going on with the lawyer. Meanwhile, Cole and Devon were discussing their visit with the President. Cole told Devon that he was actually kind of embarrassed by being kissed on national TV, but, in a way, it was kinda cool too. The two decided not to get anything to eat, they'd wait for lunch. Instead they simply resumed their cuddling, content to just be together. -*- As the time fast approached for John's arrival, Matt went to Michael's room to check on him. He found him standing naked in front of his dresser rummaging through one of the drawers looking for something to wear. Matt coughed which caused Michael to turn around. "Oh, Hi Dad. Gee, I kinda like the way that sounds. I'm looking for what to wear. Do you think my wearing just a speedo will be okay?" Matt was nonplussed by Michael's apparent comfort at displaying his body, he assumed it was mainly because of Michael's previous 'occupation'. He told him that the speedo would be fine, they do live at the beach after all. Matt grabbed an electric green speedo and slipped it up his legs. About this time, Matt heard the doorbell. He went to the door and saw John standing there with a smile on his face. The two embraced. "So," John started, "what is the big mystery?" "Come on in, we'll sit and talk." Matt replied. When they'd arrived in the living room, Michael appeared clad only in his speedo. He looked at John and in his mind he thought 'OMG that guy is freakin' HOT!' Michael walked over and sat on the couch next to John, their knees actually touching. Matt introduced them formally. Michael put on his sweetest smile. It was funny and Matt chuckled. He offered John a drink and asked Michael to help him in the kitchen. Once they were alone, Matt said, "I can see you're attracted to John. You do know he and I used to be involved, right?" "Um, no." Michael said, kind of embarrassed over having been so transparent. "Michael. Under other circumstances I wouldn't even be concerned if you and he wanted to hook up. It's obviously consensual on your part, but, in light of the allegations against you, do you think it's wise at this point in time?" Michael looked at the floor and said quietly, "I guess you're right." They got the drinks and went back into the living room. Michael handed John his drink then sat in the chair across from him on the other side of the table. Matt started to explain, "John, Michael has, in the past, been involved with a man. That in itself isn't the problem. The problem is that the man at one point was allowing his friends to be intimate with Michael and the man was charging his friends for it. Michael is afraid that he's doing it to other boys. What we want you to do is to watch him and try to find out if he's still offering the 'services' of one or more boys for money. If so, report that back to me and I'll deal with it. If all that is going on is that he has a young boy for a boyfriend, nothing needs be done." "I think I can do that easily enough." John said. "Fine. What's your usual fee?" Matt asked. "Don't worry about fee, Matt." John said. "Man, you are something else! You will charge me whatever you normally charge. As a matter of fact, call this a trial basis. I have connections to a new foundation that is being formed and they will need to use the services of a top notch investigator. It's my plan to use this investigation to convince them to use you." "Wow, thanks! Give me the particulars on this guy and I'll get on it right away. I usually charge $50.00 per hour plus expenses. An investigation like this would usually take about 20 to 50 hours, so let's say you give me a retainer of $1,000 up front and we'll see what we come up with. Sound fair?" Matt wrote John a check. -*- Travis picked up his telephone and dialed the telephone number for the attorney for the man who hit James. On the phone, a young woman answered, "Albert Frank and Associates, how may I direct your call?" Travis explained that he needed to speak to Mr. Frank and what it was regarding. Moments later a man came on the line. "Albert Frank. How can I be of assistance Mr. Welch?" "Mr. Frank, thanks for taking my call. I represent one James Gilbert. I assume you are aware of who he is. He received a letter from you with a settlement offer from a personal injury caused him by one of your clients. I would like to meet with you to discuss settlement." "Ah, yes, I am familiar with this situation. Did you say he's willing to settle?" "I didn't say that, but, subject to a few conditions, I think an arrangement can be made which would be acceptable to your client and mine. It's those conditions I'd like to discuss." Travis said. "Would you be able to make some time in your schedule for me this afternoon, say 1:00pm?" A moment of silence before Albert said, "What are the nature of these conditions, Mr. Welch?" "Oh, nothing too significant, but I prefer to present them in person. Can we meet today?" Travis was playing this close to the vest. "Well, I don't see any impediment to us meeting. Can you come to my office at that time? I can have my senior partners in the meeting as well." "Fine, I will be there at 1:00. See you then." Travis said before hanging up the phone. He then prepared several documents to present his case to the opposing counsel. He looked at his watch, it was 11:53am. -*- Devon and Cole ended their snuggle session at about noon, took a shower and once that was done, they dressed in their speedos and, after calling Donna to tell her they'd be at Cole's house, locked up the house and left. They walked casually toward Cole's house when they happened to run into Robbie and his girlfriend. His girlfriend, Amy, saw Devon and Cole and said, "I saw you guys on TV, that was some kiss!" Robbie was looking rather agitated. Devon blushed on hearing that Amy saw the kiss. Cole, however, was watching Robbie. He noticed Robbie's face turning red. Cole looked at Robbie and said, "Dude! It's been like forever! How you doing?" "Oh, I'm okay. Well, at least I was till I ran into you faggots. To think I was your friend and you do this? Like, it was okay, I guess, when it was just us who knew, but, fuck, now the whole fuckin' world knows. You two, matter of fact all you fucking queers just stay away from me!" He then took Amy's hand and with surprise on her face dragged her away from Devon and Cole. Feeling a little upset, Devon and Cole walked faster toward Cole's new home. -*- Early that afternoon, John was sitting in his office at his computer. He took his notes that he'd taken during the discussion at Matt's. He went to one of the sites he used to get background information on people and typed in Trevor's full name. The information that was returned was not all that valuable, other than he now had the man's full name, including middle name, a photograph of him, his address, social security number, employment information, credit scores, and motor vehicle registration information. There was one little tidbit of information in his criminal record that John made note of. He decided to hop into his car and see if Trevor was at his place of employment. He wouldn't make contact, just determine his whereabouts. He drove by and as it would happen, watched as Trevor walked into the place, obviously returning from lunch. He decided to drive by Trevor's house, just to check things out. He arrived and pulled over at the curb in front of the man's house. He was just sitting there when a boy, about 11 or 12 came up to his window. John looked at the boy who smiled at him. "Hey, are you looking for Trevor?" The boy asked. John, thinking quickly said, "Yeah, but I guess he's at work." "So, are you two good friends?" "We haven't seen each other in like forever!" John said, chuckling inwardly at the fact that he'd made the truth sound like he wanted it to. He then continued,"Are you and Trevor friends?" The lad wasn't shy at all, "Yeah, we're pretty tight, we do all sorts of stuff together." "Cool, Trevor's a lucky guy, you're a good looking boy. Sometimes I wish I had a friend like you too." John said, fishing. The boy grinned. "Well, be careful what you wish for, it may just happen!" John feigned a surprised look on his face, he was thinking this is just too easy, "What do you mean by that?" "Well, I was just saying that it can probably be arranged. But you'd have to negotiate that with Trevor." The boy said, rubbing his thumb and forefinger together. John had all he needed. It was circumstantial, but, it was probably enough. He thanked the boy and received a wink and a smile from the youngster. -*- Robbie and Amy were walking down the boardwalk. Robbie was still a bit angry from his meeting Devon and Cole on the strand. This fact was all too clear to Amy and she wasn't enjoying it one bit. She turned to him and said, "What's your problem Robbie?" "What do you mean, I don't have a problem." He said emphatically. "You have been quiet and holding my had really tight since we left Devon and Cole, you can't tell me there's no problem." She said. "I used to hang with those guys every day. We were best friends, the 5 of us. We knew about Cole a long time ago, well, at least Michael and I did, but he never did anything that was obvious. I didn't like it much, but, as long as he was acting 'normal' I figured I'd ignore it, maybe he'd grow out of it. Then Devon and he got together, then James came out, and now Michael, I was like, 'what the fuck, all my best friends are queer? Maybe I have the wrong friends." "I can't believe you!" Amy said. "There's nothing wrong with a person being gay. Lots of my friends are gay. Matter of fact, if you guys were as good friends as you said, it shouldn't matter if they are or not!" Robbie grew up in a family where homosexuals were vilified. Their fundamentalist church denounced all gays as agents of the devil that were just out to corrupt everyone else. He was taught that, and he'd learned it. Robbie let go of Amy's hand and said, "I don't think we should see each other any more, Amy. It seems as if they've corrupted you too. I think I just need to find a nice girl from our church, at least I know she'll not be a fag lover." With that he stormed off leaving her standing there alone. -*- Devon & Cole arrived at Cole's house at about 1:40. Matt and Michael were sitting in the living room watching television. They said 'Hi' as the two sat on the love seat together. Devon started telling Michael about their meeting Robbie and what had happened. Michael shook his head and said, "I had a feeling he was going to be a little bit of a problem, at least as far as still being our friend. But I doubt he'll do anything other than avoid us." Matt was listening carefully, but, decided to let the boys talk and work things out for themselves. He asked if the guys were hungry and receiving an affirmative response told them he'd go grill up their lunch so they can talk. Michael told them about the meeting with John. He said to Cole, "Dude! Why didn't you tell me John's a hottie? If things were different, I'd totally go for him!" Cole smiled as he said, "Well, when I met him I was already with Dev, so I honestly didn't notice, but, thinking about it, he is pretty good looking." They talked a while about nothing really special until Matt returned telling the guys that their lunch was ready. -*- At precisely 1:00pm, Travis entered the offices of Albert Frank, and associates. He was greeted by a receptionist who showed him to a conference room. He was told that the partners would be with him in a few minutes. She had barely walked out the door when 4 men entered. Three took seats on the opposite side of the table from Travis while the other approached him. "Mr. Welch, I'm Albert Frank, it's a pleasure to meet you." He didn't make an effort to introduce the others. "It's nice to meet you as well, Mr. Frank. Thanks for seeing me on such short notice." "Not a problem, we would like to put this matter to rest as quickly as possible so we can finish the rest of the work on our late client's estate. You said your client is willing to settle this matter?" "As I said on the telephone, subject to some conditions, he's willing to entertain a settlement." Travis stated. "Yes, you'd mentioned that on the phone, can you explain what these 'conditions' are?" All four men's ears were attuned to Travis at this point. "Well, if the figures I have are correct, your client was a very wealthy man. My information shows he's worth upwards of $200 Billion. For some reason, your client was driving a vehicle without a license. A license that had been revoked because he had already had more than a few accidents which caused injury. Now, before you feel my client is going to try to milk you for more money for himself, I'll tell you that is not his intention." All of the men were visibly relieved, at least until Travis continued, "However, he does have a desire to modify the terms you offered in settlement." "And, what type of modification is he requesting we make?" Albert asked. "Well, the young man is in the process of forming a charitable foundation to support a few charities. Whereas he's not asking for more for himself, he is requesting that, in addition to the proposed sum you offered to him directly, that you, meaning your client's estate, make a donation to that new foundation." Albert was now visibly relaxing. "I don't see a problem agreeing to that condition, we can make an additional payment equal to that we have offered him to that foundation, provided it has tax exempt status and the donation can be made with that benefit to our client's estate." "Excuse me? Did you say 'equal to'? I am sorry, but I believe that to be an insult. If I were to file suit I have no doubt that I could get 10% to 20% of your client's assets. He was willfully driving even though he knew he was incapable of doing so safely. No, I don't think a mere $20 million in total is at all fair. As I said, in court my client would get roughly 20% of his total assets, and by my calculations, that would be somewhere around $400 million. Now, we aren't asking for that kind of money. What my client has authorized me to do is to offer, in addition to his personal settlement, and my fees, that you agree to a donation to the tax-exempt charitable foundation in the amount of 1% of your client's audited estate. To break it down, $10 Million to my client, directly. My fees are about $3,000 in total, and a donation to me made within 5 days after you are notified that the new foundation has been granted tax-exempt status in the amount of $200 Million." The four horsemen of the apocalypse (as Travis mused) were now visibly shaken. Mr. Frank said, "Well, I'm not sure what to say, but, if you will please excuse us a moment so we can discuss this and an appropriate response. It should only take us about 5 minutes." Travis agreed and he watched as the men filed out of the conference room. The five minutes stretched to ten when they'd returned. They didn't look all that happy, but, Albert said, "It seems that you might have been right as to the amount of our client's estate. The offer your client makes is actually quite generous. The tax benefits alone will more than cover his personal moneys as well as your fees. You can inform your client that we have come to an agreement. Documents will be prepared and sent to you by courier. Once they have been properly executed and returned to us, you may pick up a cashier's check for his payment and your fees. Then, once you send us a copy of the documentation of this new foundation's tax-exempt status, we will make the donation as agreed. But, under no circumstances can your client divulge to anyone the terms of this agreement, and in no way contact the media. This also includes him writing a book about this incident." Travis shook the hands of each of the men. He gave Albert his business card and asked when the agreement would be sent to him. Having been told it would be in his hands the next day, he thanked them and left for his office. He had a telephone call to make and it was one he would sincerely enjoy making.
