He gave Albert his business card and asked when the agreement would be sent to him. Having been told it would be in his hands the next day, he thanked them and left for his office. He had a telephone call to make and it was one he would sincerely enjoy making. Chapter 27 -- Wrapping up loose ends. Trevor returned home and was approached by Billy, his 12 year old neighbor. He looked into the boy's eyes and remembered some of the stuff they'd done. Billy was really insatiable in bed. Never seemed to get enough. "Hey Trev. You hadda visitor today." Billy said with a wink. "Oh, I wasn't expecting anyone. Did he say who he was or what he wanted?" Trevor asked puzzled. Billy giggled as he said, "He said he was an old friend, and if I hadda guess I'd say he wanted me in a bad way!" Trevor laughed along with the boy then asked,"So, what did you say to him?" "Oh, nuttin. I told him to come back and talk to you. He said he wished he had a friend like me just like you do and I told him he'd need to talk to you about that." Trevor was concerned, but didn't show it. Only time would tell. He smiled at Billy telling him he would talk to him later, then went into his house. -*- Matt, Michael, Cole, and Arthur were sitting in the living room. They were planning on what to do and say the following morning at Michael's hearing. Arthur had explained that since Michael had never been in trouble of any kind in the past, they were going to try to get him probation only. Arthur had an appointment for the morning with the prosecutor to try to cut a deal. After it was agreed, Arthur left. Michael was quiet. The hour was getting late and they were just about to go to bed when the phone rang. Matt answered. "Hello?" "Hi Matt, it's John. I have some information for you, can I come by? I can be there in about 15 minutes." "Sure, I'll be up." Matt said as they hung up the phone. Matt wondered exactly what John could have gotten so fast, it was only this morning they'd talked. Matt went into the kitchen and put a pot of coffee on. Cole entered and asked who was on the phone. Matt told him that John had called and was on his way over and asked if he could keep Michael's mind occupied while he talked to John. Cole winked and said, "I'll keep his mind occupied, that's not a problem!" Cole hugged Matt and said, "I guess I'll see you in the morning, Dad. Devon wants to go with us to Michael's hearing if that's okay." "That'll be fine, son. I love you, and good night." Matt replied. "I love you too, Dad, night." Cole said exiting the kitchen heading for Michael's room. A few minutes later Matt heard the doorbell. He went to the door and saw through the peephole that John was there with a smile on his face. He opened the door and showed John into the living room after giving him a hug. John opened a file folder and took out some documents. He laid them on the table and said, "Okay, this guy was easier than I thought to track. Let me lay it out for you." John went through the particulars he'd found. When he got to Trevor's criminal history he said, "The only blemish on his criminal record was a restraining order that was taken out by a former neighbor. The restraining order specifically named the woman's son as the person Trevor was to stay away from. The boy was 12 at the time. No charges were filed, just a restraining order. That seemed odd to me." Matt nodded his understanding and asked, "So, did you find out anything more?" John smiled and said, "I decided to do some poking around. I went to his place of employment and saw him returning from lunch. Then I decided to take a run by his house, just to scope things out. While I was there I was approached by a boy who looked to be about 12 or 13. Cute kid, actually, but the kid told me that he and Trevor were really close 'friends'. I made some comment that I thought Trevor was a lucky guy and I said I'd wished I had a friend like him. That's when it got interesting." Matt's expression showed that he was really interested and without a word, John realized that Matt understood. "The kid told me that I would have to talk to Trevor, but that a friend could probably be arranged. Then he gave me the universal hand sign of money. I know it's circumstantial, but, I think the kid was telling me that he could be bought and Trevor was the one to negotiate with. I did some research and found out that the boy's name is Billy Matthews. He is Trevor's next door neighbor, they moved in to the same house where the other kid lived. The one who's mother took out the retraining order for. He is 12 years old. Lives alone with his mother. The mother is a piece of work. Has been in and out of jail several times for drug charges. The kid has had some serious problems at school. Plays hooky several times a week." Matt had heard enough. He asked John to stay at his house, he needed to run an errand for an hour or so. He went back to Michael's room finding Cole and Michael talking on Michael's bed. He told them he had to run out for an hour and John would be there in case anything was needed. They assured him that they'd be okay. Matt went into his bedroom and dressed. He opened his wall safe and took out $5,000 in cash. He exited his bedroom, stopped in the living room and told John he'd be back. John knew instantly where he was going. After grabbing the paper with Trevor's address on it, Matt left, got into his car and drove off. -*- Robbie was sitting on a wall alongside the pier. He'd been though a lot of emotion the past day or so and needed some time alone to think. He was sitting there when a man walked by. The man looked at Robbie, let out a whistle and said aloud, "Man, you are a cute boy, aren't you!" This was it for Robbie. He stood and approached the man, hauled off and hit him square in the nose. The man fell back and Robbie was instantly upon him wailing away at his face with his fists. He was screaming, "Come on to me, will you, you fucking fag? I'm going to fucking kill you!" The next sound that was heard was the quick chirp of a police siren. Robbie looked up to see a patrol car stopped with it's searchlight pointing at him. The cops saw what he was up to and within seconds had descended upon him. They cuffed him, called for EMS to come and care for his victim. An officer approached Robbie, stood him up, took a card from his breast pocket and read Robbie his Miranda rights. After receiving assurance that Robbie understood the rights that were read to him, he was told he was under arrest for Assault on the man, and due to his comments it was going to be noted that the attack was based on the man's sexual preference. This would qualify it as a hate crime. EMS arrived and tended to the man. He had a broken nose, several severe lacerations to his face, and his left eye was swollen shut. The cops put Robbie into the back seat of their squad car and, once backup had arrived, got in and took him to the county lockup for processing. -*- Matt arrived at Trevor's house. He got out of his car and went to the front door. He knocked and after a moment the door was opened by a boy that Matt assumed to be Billy. Billy was wearing only a pair of very skimpy bikini underwear that were not hiding his erection at all. Billy turned and yelled, "Trevor, someone at the door for you!" Then Billy turned and walked away leaving the door open. He reached back and pulled the underwear out of his butt crack as he walked. A man approached the door wearing a pair of gym shorts, no shirt. He looked at Matt and said, "Something I can do for you?" Matt looked at Trevor and said in a calm voice, "I think you want to invite me in so we can talk. I'm not sure you want me to talk about what I have to say here at the door." Trevor again looked at Matt, shrugged his shoulders and flipped his head indicating for Matt to follow. He took a quick right turn into the kitchen and sat at the table, indicating that Matt should sit opposite him. He looked at Matt and in an irritated voice said, "Okay, Talk." Matt again looked at him and with a level of calm he really didn't feel said, "I'm here about your nephew, Michael." Before Trevor could say anything, even though he appeared to be about to, Matt continued. "He told me what you two used to do. He also told me what you did on that weekend he stayed with you when he was 9. Personally, I have no problems with what you and he did. He told me it was totally consensual on his part. I also have not a single care about what you and young Billy Matthews are doing behind closed doors. It's your thing, provided Billy is okay with it and he's not in any way being forced. What I do have problems with is you selling Billy's 'wares'. It's not right for an adult to take advantage of a willing boy by selling him off to the highest bidder. I'm sorry, it's not right at all. So, just so you know, I don't want to hear your side of it. I am here to put you on notice that you are on my radar. Keep up what you've been doing and you'll spend a lot of time on an enforced vacation from society to think. If, as I said, you and Billy have a relationship going, I don't care at all. But don't try to sell him or any other boy, I'll know and I'll make sure you're found out." Trevor was shocked. He hadn't heard from or about Michael since he was 11. He just stopped coming over. "Is Michael alright?" "Michael is safe. You obviously taught him well that his body was worth money and he was recently arrested for prostitution. He's facing some serious charges, but that will be handled by my attorneys. If you have any feelings for Billy other than him being a piece of meat, treat him as he deserves. Love him. Be his friend. Make him know that you don't want him being with anyone else. As a matter of fact, I'd like to talk to him if you don't mind." At first Trevor was going to balk, but he realized that this guy could have just called the cops. Had it been them when Billy answered the door, he'd be at that moment on a one-way ride. He turned and called, "Billy, come here a minute, will ya!" He then turned and said, "I have no idea who you are." "My name is Matt. Michael is in my custody for now. I could be your best friend in the future, but I could also be your worst enemy." Billy walked in, still wearing nothing but his bikini undies. His erection still prominent. He looked at Matt, then turned to Trevor and said, "He's not the same guy that was here earlier." Matt smiled and said, "That was my investigator, Billy. You and I need to talk, Trevor will be here, so don't worry." Billy sat on Trevor's knee and said, "Whatever." "Billy, first, I don't care what you and Trevor here do behind closed doors. But I need to know that it's something you really want. Nothing he's coerced you into." Billy appraised Matt and without looking back at Trevor said, "Hey, I hadda almost throw myself at him before he'd touch me! See, I'm what my mom calls a sex fiend. I can't get enuf." Matt smiled, somewhere in his mind he thought, 'Trevor is a lucky man, or maybe Billy is.' Instead, he said, "Okay. I want you to know that I just told Trevor that you and he can do whatever, but I told him that he could no longer offer you for hire to other guys." "What the FUCK! I make good money doing that! My mom spends all her government check on booze and dope. The only money we have for food is what I make with my butt!" Matt nearly burst out into tears. Almost immediately an idea formed. "Thanks Billy, thank you for being honest. But I can assure you that you will not have need to do that to get money for food. Go on, go back to what you were doing, I need to talk to Trevor." "Whatever." Billy said as he got off Trevor's lap and walked back, pulling his undies out of his ass crack again as he walked. "Trevor. I have an idea." -*- Arthur entered the office of the Prosecutor assigned to Michael's case. They exchanged pleasantries and Arthur got right down to brass tacks. "I would like to discuss a plea agreement between the State and Michael Fitzpatrick." The prosecutor looked at Arthur and laughed. "What? I have this one in the bag! This is an almost guaranteed conviction. We have audio and video surveillance of the boy approaching our operative, offering himself for money. No, no deals. This one is a slam dunk. I will see you in court." Then the prosecutor stood and motioned for the door. Arthur stood shook his head and walked out. -*- Devon, Cole, Matt, and Michael were seated on the bench outside Michelle Feiner's courtroom. Michael was nervously shuffling his feet. They all looked up as Arthur approached. The look on his face didn't give any hope. He approached and said, "This one is going to be difficult. We're going to have to hope for a miracle if we're going to keep our young Mr. Fitzpatrick out of jail." At that moment the Bailiff opened the doors to the courtroom. Everyone entered and took seats in the gallery. The words were spoken, "All Rise, this court is now in session, the Honorable Joseph K. C. Wright presiding." The judge entered the courtroom and almost immediately Michael said under his breath, "Well it'll be fucked!" Hearing this, Arthur looked at Michael who leaned over and said, "That guy is one of my best customers, when he sees me I think he's gonna have a heart attack!" Arthur nodded then turned and looked up at the ceiling thinking to himself, 'Thank you God!' The judge asks the bailiff to call the first case on the docket. The bailiff stands and says, "Your Honor, Case number 10-332118, The State vs Robert Anderson, the defendant is in custody awaiting arraignment." Robbie is led into the courtroom wearing an orange jumpsuit, his hands are cuffed in front of him and his legs are shackled. He's looking down at the floor. He's led to a podium where a man joins him. The judge looks at his docket and reads: Robert Anderson, you stand charged with Aggravated Assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm as count 1. Count 2 is an enhancement in that Count 1 was committed, or should I say allegedly committed as an act solely based on the victim's being a member of a protected class under state law. This enhances Count 1 to be a hate crime. Will counsel on both sides please stand and be identified." The Prosecutor stood, "Bryan Knight for the State, Your Honor." Robbie's Public Defender stood, "Um, Bill Daniels of the County Public Defender's office, for the defendant, sir. I mean, Your Honor." Having heard the charges, Mr. Anderson, how plead you? Robbie became indignant. "I haven't even been given the chance to talk to my lawyer, if you can call him that!" The judge wasn't in a good mood after that outburst. "You will have ample time to discuss this with counsel. How do you plead to the charges young man?" "Not Guilty, I guess." Immediately, the prosecutor stood, "Your Honor, on the question of bail..." He was cut off. The judge said, "On the question of Bail, bail is hereby denied. Defendant will remain in custody pending a preliminary hearing scheduled for 30 days from today at 9:00am. Next case, Bailiff." As a surprised Robbie was being led away, the Bailiff called, "Your Honor, Case number 10-2836987, The State vs Michael Fitzpatrick, the defendant is present in court on bond, This is a preliminary hearing." Michael stands and as he and Arthur pass through the gate the judge looks at him and you could see the surprise in his eyes. The distress in him is obvious. He says, "The court is in need of a recess. We will reconvene in 1 hour." He slammed his gavel on the desk and was gone in seconds. Arthur smiled to himself, turned to Michael and said, "Let's go to the cafeteria and wait." Devon, Cole, Michael, Matt, and Arthur left the courtroom but before they could reach the cafeteria they were approached by a young man. "Excuse me, but discreetly, Judge Wright would like to see the young man and his counsel in chambers, off the record." They enter the judge's temporary chambers. Arthur knew he literally had this man by the balls. "Your Honor, you do realize that this kind of ex-parte conversation is strictly forbidden." The judge didn't respond, instead he turned to Michael, "What do you want to make sure nobody finds out about 'us'?" Arthur replied for him. "We'll make this easy on you, your honor. In an effort to thwart the prosecution from going whole hog wondering why, we'll enter a nolo plea, all we wish if for you to pronounce sentence immediately. Probation. Unsupervised. For not longer than 12 months." The judge appraised Arthur. "I believe I recognize you. You're Arthur Phelps, right? You will get what you're asking for. Now, leave my chambers before you're noticed. Go straight to the courtroom, I'll be there in 10 minutes. What a day for that Bitch Michelle to call in sick, and for them to call me from two counties away, what fucking luck!" They filed out after making sure the hallway was empty and returned to the courtroom. Within minutes the Bailiff said, "All Rise, this court is back in session." Judge Wright re-entered the courtroom and said, "Right, I apologize, I must have had some bad sausage at breakfast. Mr. Fitzpatrick, you stand accused of Prostitution. You had previously entered a not guilty plea, is that still your desire? That we continue with a preliminary hearing?" Arthur spoke up, "Your Honor, in light of the situation, my client has decided to change his plea. He wishes to enter a plea of 'Nolo-Contendre' and places himself at the mercy of the court." The prosecutor was standing and about to object when the judge said, "Plea of Nolo-Contendre has been accepted and is entered. In an effort to save the court time I will pass sentence at this time. Mr. Fitzpatrick, in light of the fact that you are so young, and that you have never in any way been in any sort of legal problems before, and seeing by the docket that there is a pending petition for adoption, I hereby sentence you to 12 months of Unsupervised Probation. This in in lieu of a 3 year sentence which I am hereby suspending provided you are able to go the 12 months without any further legal entanglements." The judge banged his gavel and said to the Bailiff, "Next case, please." The prosecutor was beside himself. His associate whispered in his ear, "Don't worry, nolo goes into your jacket as a conviction." Matt led the others out of the courtroom. They found their way to their vehicles and drove back to Matt's house. There, Michael told everyone about 'his honor, Judge Wright, and his love of young boys." -*- Travis walked up the sidewalk approaching James' house where he knocked on the door. Tom answered the door and, surprised to see Travis there so soon, hesitated before inviting him in. He went with Tom into the living room where Melissa and James were sitting. James looked up and said, "What's up?" Travis smiled and said, "I have some documents for you and your mother to sign. I met with opposing counsel yesterday. The first document is your agreement to accept a payment directly to you in the amount of $10,000,000. In it you agree not to contact the media regarding this settlement nor make any public statement about it so long as you live. The second is your agreement that to maintain your silence, they will make a donation to your foundation in the amount of $200,000,000. Plus they will make an ongoing donation of $20,000 per month subsequently. The look on James' face was precious. To his credit his first thought wasn't about the fact that very soon he'd have the money, his first thought was about the foundation. "What do we need to do to get the foundation up and running?" "Well, I also have some documents for your mother to sign, I assume she will still be the one running things at the foundation?" Travis said. James replied, "Yes, but I want Matt Johnson, Donna Williams, and Arthur Phelps on the board of directors. I'd also like for you to be on that board too." "I would be honored. I will get acceptance letters signed by each of the board members. Have you given any thought to the name of the foundation?" Travis inquired. "I have. I think it should be called 'The Opportunity for Fairness Foundation'. " James said proudly. Travis grinned and said, "I will file the necessary paperwork as soon as possible. However, you need to start thinking of a banking relationship somewhere. Within the next few days, I'm going to be bringing you a very large check." James smiled, thanked Travis and told Tom to contact Matt. He'd know what to do. Coming Soon -- Chapter 28 -- Setting a foundation -- for Good.
