Blade Strke Two Chapter 34 Adian woke the next morning, he was excited to get his day going. After getting out of bed Adian put on his running gear and headed out of his room. He was met by his two best friends, Miki and Ryo. Adian was also surprised to see Li Han and Jin Coo from the Chinese Taipei baseball team, they had seen Ryo and Adian out running the other day and since they were long distant runners wanted to join in on the fun. All five boys met out front of the Grove and went out for their morning run. They started out by the practice fields and circled around the two main stadiums. All five boys talked baseball as they rounded the ball fields for the second time. The plan was to circle the park four times before heading back to the Grove to eat breakfast. They all agreed to sit together. Both Ryo and Miki were beginning to like Li Han and Jīn Coo. The spoke both English and Japanese and were making jokes as they ran. Once back at the Grove the boys headed to their rooms to change. Adian took a quick shower, dressed and sat on his bed for a few minutes to rest. Adian laid his head on the bed and closed his eyes for a few minutes. He was thinking about practice and then about the game they were going to play in less than ten hours. Just as he was about to fade to sleep, he heard the noisy chatter of boys coming from the hallway. His stomach growled, it was time to go out and have breakfast. Adian grabbed some food and went to sit down. He looked around and noticed that most of his team mates were scattered around. For some reason everyone was sitting with other guys from other teams. Adian smiled when he saw Aaron sitting with some of the boys from New Castle. From what Adian heard from some of the other boys at the Grove are from the New Castle team some of the nicest guys here. Ryo and Miki walked in just then and proceed to get their breakfast. Adian also noticed Jīn and Li come in and was not surprised that all four boys join him at his table. It was not odd to see other boys from the Japanese team and the Chinese Taipei join them at the table where Adian was sitting. It was funny hearing all the boys talking in three different languages and always knew what the others were talking about. Once they finished eating everyone headed back to their rooms to get ready for the day's activity. Adian went to his room and was joined by His two new Japanese friends. Ryo and Miki had practice later that morning but it would be on the field that Adian was having practice. The boys hug before Adian went to practice. Blake had planned on having a two hour work out. One hour of that would be getting his two pitchers arms warmed up. He had decided to pitch Adian the first three inning of the game and give his enough rest just in case they would need him for the Friday night game. If they won today's game, they would have three days off. If they lost, they would only have two days. Once the team was all warmed up, he sent the boys to go get something to eat while he finished up his starting lineup. Wilton Cougars lineup Eric Hooper center field Freddy Olson 2nd base Sean Marcus right field, Adian Parks pitcher Peter Philips 1st base, Kristopher Heinze short stop JD Smith third base RJ Johnson left fielder Carlos Livia catcher Blake had decided he would change out Jose Livia, Peter Corona, Aaron Danvers, Bryan Mars, and Bobby Olson at the top of the third inning or sooner if the team out scored the other team. Blake knew they were a good team. He had watched them the day before and knew that they had a really good hitting team. Tennessee was undefeated coming into the Little League World Series, just as Wilton was. While the boys went to eat, Ryo and Miki had baseball practice. The plan was to work out for two hours go have something to eat with Miki and Ryo's parents, then go to Adian's ball game. The boys were excited to find out that they would be playing the West Region, Petaluma National Little League team it was exciting they were the second-place team in the second American pool play bracket. This was going to be exciting. It would be their first time playing against any American team. *** Good evening ladies and gentleman to the Little League World Series tonight game is the Southeast Region Goodlettsville Baseball Little League vs Midwest Region Wilton Cougars. Both teams are undefeated going in to tonight's game. I am Jim Nance and my partner in the booth tonight is retired baseball great Jack Cannon who play for the World Series Champion back in the 90's. "Awe thanks Jim, you make he sound like one of the old ones from days gone by our championship was only a little over a decade ago." Jack answered. "So, how is your son doing? I hear he has been out scouting new talent for the Boston Red Sox?" "He has the coaching staff and myself always on the looking for new talent every day." Jack Cannon said in reply. "Well, you might get a good look at a few of them today as we go into our last game of the night. It looks like the Wilton Cougar have home field advantage as they are taking the outfield for the start of the game. Now let pause for a break before the game begins." Jim announced. Jack sat back in his chair and was reading over some of the stats that had been prepared for him. What he found intriguing was what he had read about the young pitcher out on the baseball mound. This young twelve-year-old held the batting title for the state of Minnesota and has only been playing organized baseball for four months. Plus, he had not allowed an earned run after facing 108 batters and had only allowed four walks. Which were contested because of poor umpiring. "Whoa, who is this kid?" Jack asked. "Aw, I see you are reading up on young mister Adian Parks. I guess he is a phenom. You know one of those naturally talented kids. I talked to the coach and he told us one of the kid's friends talked him into trying out and just blew everyone away with his talent. He is a natural leader and overall good kid." Jim told Jack. Okay we are back in 3, 2, 1. "Welcome back baseball fans we are just about ready to start. The Wilton Cougars are the home team and are ready to go. The South East Regional team from Tennesse are stepping up to bat." *** Adian arm felt good, he was in a good mindset and the team looked good behind him. The lineup on the field was the best defense and would be the best offence when at bat. Adian threw his last pitch before facing his first batter. Carlos caught the pitch which was right down the middle of the plate. After making the catch he threw it to first then ran out to the mound to talk to Adian. "Your pitching looks great. Let's do this." Carlos said then the two boys bumped fist then got ready for the batter. *** "Up first for the Tennessee team is Max Thomas. He has an on base average of 80% during the Little League World Series. Here is the pitch." "Strike one." "Whoa did you see that pitch? A fast ball right down the middle. The radar gun clocked that at 88 miles per hour. That is amazing for a twelve-year-old." *** "Dad, how is he able to get that much power in his throw?" Ryo asked "Watch his windup. See how he movement. He steps forward throwing his whole body forward before he releases the ball. All that motion is put into his arm perfectly, which allow him to drive it forward. Just watch where he releases the ball he is pointing right where he wants to place the ball. He must have been training for years." Mr. Abe told his son Ryo. Ryo and Miki watched and cheered as Adian took down the first three batters. From the looks of the Tennessee pitching, it looked like this was going to be a pitching duel. Eric was able to get to first base on a hit over the first baseman's head, Freddy moved him over to second on a bunt but was thrown out at first on a great throw from the third baseman. Eric hit went to waste as he was thrown out at third and on his tag up on Sean Marcus's pop fly to left field. Adian went in and pitched another perfect inning. Blake was afraid that the boys from Tennessee might catch up to his pitching. Adian stepped up to the plate at the bottom of the second inning. He watched the first pitch go by and drove the ball over the left field fence on the second pitch. The Cougars were now up one to nothing. Unfortunately, the Tennessee pitcher shut the next three batters down. Adian stepped in and took the next three batters down in order. RJ stepped up to bat, he looked down the third base line and Blake gave him the sign to swing away. RJ stepped in the batter's box looked down at the pitcher. He had been practicing for the last week. Going to the batting cage every day. He knew he was not the hitter that Adian was but he was going to try to do his best. He was surprised when he stepped into the batter's box by the cheers coming from the stands. The crowd even knew his name. They were calling out RJ, RJ, RJ. He could hear the Japanese fans calling out his name just like they did when Adian was up to bat. RJ watched as the first flew by for a called strike one. It was a fastball on the outside of the plate. He had been watching the earlier pitches and figured the next pitch should be either a curveball or a changeup. Those were his two favorite pitches. RJ watched as the next pitch, got set and watched as the ball was released from the pitches hand. Ting. RJ tuck his chin and took off for first base, Ben was coaching first base and sent him to second as he got to second Blake signaled him to come to third base and held him there. Rj was all smiles and he could hear the crowd cheering him on. Carlos was next to step up to the bat. He looked down the third baseline and watched as Blake gave him the signal to bunt. He knew it was coming because they had talked about it in the dugout before they got ready to bat. Carlos was one of the fastest runners on the team. Blake had been practicing with the boys on bunting and Carlos was also one of the better bunters on the team. Carlos stepped up to the plate and squared around. The pitcher threw the ball high and to the outside. Carlos was quick enough to pull his bat back for ball one. Carlos stepped out of the batter box knocked the dirt off his shoes and stepped back in. He knew his job and that was to move RJ to home plate. If he was thrown out at first base, he knew he had done his job. Once again, he squared and the pitcher threw the ball in the same place as before for ball two. Blake like the looks of how this was going. It looked like they were afraid that Carlos would bunt his way on base. And right now, it looked like they might just walk him. That would be dangerous Eric would be up next then Freddy after him. Those three boys could bunt, hit and steal. Carlos stepped back in and rounded for a bunt. Again, the Tennessee pitcher threw the ball high and to the inside, brushing Carlos back. Adian watched as his good friend stepped back in. He squared and the pitch once again threw the ball high and to the outside. Adian could see that Carlos was disappointed and Adian knew why. Now there was a good chance for a double play. Adian wonder what Blake would do in a case like this. Eric stepped up to the batter's box and looked down the third base line to see what he should do. He was surprised at the sign. He stepped in and squared his bat. Just like Carlos the pitcher threw the ball high and to the outside. Only this time Carlos took off for second, while RJ jump off third base. The catcher looked RJ back but it was enough time so that he could get to second base. Now with runners at second and third, Blake then gave Eric the sign to swing away. Eric smiled as the stepped in. Eric was excited the was sure he would be able to hit whatever the Tennessee pitcher could throw at him. He had already seen what the pitcher could throw at his first at bat. Now was the time to put what he had seen the first time at bat. Sure, he had struck out the first time but he knew he could do it. Ting Eric tucked his head and took off for first base. He did not look to see where he had hit the ball. It really did not matter to him as long as he got his friends RJ and Carlos home. Ben was signaling Eric to go to second base. As Eric rounded first, he looked up to see Blake telling him to slide into second. Eric went in head first. "Safe." called the umpire. Eric stood up and brushed the dirt from his pants and looked over to Blake. Freddy was stepping into the batter's box and watched the first pitch. All this was planned. Freddy would square around one the pitcher went into his windup not giving him a chance to change his pitch. Ting. Freddy ran to first after laying a perfect bunt down the first base line. Drawing the first base man off his bag, along with the pitcher having to go first. The first baseman got to the ball before the catcher turn to make the throw to first. Instead, he made the throw to third. Freddy was safe at first and Eric slide under the tag. Now it was Sean turn up at bat, with Adian in the batter's box. Blake was hoping that having Adian in the batter's box it would shake up the pitcher. Blake gave the sign to Sean before the young pre-teen stepped back into the Batter's box. Sean squared his bat like he was about to bunt the ball. But pulled the bat back as the ball came in low and to the inside. The next throw was to first base, Freddy had taken a large led off from first and the pitcher threw the ball over to force him back. That gave eric a chance to take a big led from third which cause a throw to third base. Freddy then took off for second where he was under the tag. That freed up first for Sean. Sean stepped out and knocked the dirt from his shoes, then stepped back in the batter's box. He watched as the second pitch went by low and to the outside. With the count now two balls, Blake gave Sean the sign to swing away. Sean stepped back in and got set. He watched as the pitch left the pitcher's hand. Sean had no chance to move before the ball hit him in the shoulder. He collapsed to the ground clutching his shoulder. Blake rushed to home to check to see if Sean was okay. Sean was clutching his left arm; Blake could see that Sean had tears in his eyes and was in a lot of pain. "Are you okay?" Blake asked the tear stain boy who was on the ground. Moments later, Tanner was at Blake and Sean's side. "Hey, big guy. Let me see your arm." Tanner said. Sean let Tanner look at his arm. He knew something was wrong right away. The arm was already starting to bruise and swell. Tanner was sure that the arm or shoulder was broken. "We need to get him to the medical tent right away." Tanner told Blake. Tanner helped Sean to his feet and led him off to the medical tent. "Bobby you're going in for Marcus." Blake yelled out. He figured that once the cougar's finished they're at bat he would put Bobby in at pitching and move Adian to third, JD to left field, RJ to center and Eric to right field. Bobby ran out to first base as Adian got ready to step into the batter's box. Blake had talked to him prior to the beginning of the inning. *** "Ready in 3 2 1" the producer said as he pointed to the two announcers. "Welcome back, it looks like the young ballplayer has been taken to the medical tent." "Yeah, it looks like the injury was more than just a bruised shoulder. It is a good thing they have a good medical staff here." Jack Cannon said as Adian stepped up to the plate. "Bases loaded and it looks like the Willmar Cougars best player is up to bat." Jim Nance told the listening audience. "Jim, from what I have seen at his first at bat this young ballplayer has a good eye for the pitch. Look how he is set in the batter's box. Whoever taught this boy to his has taught him well." Jack said. "Here is the pitch. It's a called strike one. It was a good pitch right down the middle." Jim called out. "Yes, Jim it was a good pitch. I wonder why the young batter held off that pitch?" Jack asked. "From what we have been told that young ballplayer has an excellent eye for the right pitch. Here is the pitch." "Strike two." the umpire called out "That pitch looked a little high. Let's see what out new computer umpire has to say about that pitch." "It looks like that pitch should have been called a ball. According to our computer it was high and to the inside. Not a good call for our young hitter." "Don't count this young hitter out just yet. I think we might just see something out of him." Jack Cannon said. "I think this is a someone has made an era in getting us the right information. But it says here that Adian Parks has never struck out. I find that highly unlikely." Jim Nance said. Ting "It looks like that one is gone. Jim, I think that one is going to hit in the parking lot." Jack Cannon said as he watched the ball bounce out into the parking lot 50 feet from the outfield fence. "That has got too be a record. Now that is a way to hit a Grand slam homerun. The last time I saw a hit like that was when you won the World Series." Jim Nance commented to Jack Cannon. Jack Connan remembered that day and the days that followed. It was after that he had adopted his Son PJ Thorndyke. Not many people knew that PJ Thorndyke was the principal owner of the Boston Red Sox through the many companies he owned. But that is another story. (The Father Contract by A.J. Arrington) Jack Knew he had to get PJ down to Williamsport. Adian never looked up after he hit the ball. All he knew is that he had to get to first. As he rounded first Ben told him to keep going. When he got to second, he looked into the outfield and everyone was looking over the fence. Blake was calling for him to come to third. Adian was sure he had not hit the ball that hard. Adian watched as Bobby slowly made his way passed third and was heading home. Blake bumped fist when Adian. "Nice hit little bro." Blake said as Adian headed to home plate. At the plate Adian was met by his Bobby, Aaron and the rest of his team mates at home plate. The Cougars were now up six to nothing at the bottom of the third. The Tennessee pitcher was replaced before the next batter came to the plate. At the end of the inning The Wilton Cougars were up nine to nothing. Bobby did go in to pitch and shut the Tennessee team down only allowing one hit to the shortstop. Where Kristopher fumbles the ball just enough to allow the batter on base. But made up for it on the next play catching a stinger to short where he made a glove gem. Bobby only got to pitch the third inning the cougar won when Kristopher hit Adian home after Adian hit a triple. *** Ryo and Miki were cheering their butts off. Mr. Abe and the rest of the Japanese crowd were just as loud. Even the Chinese Taipei team was there cheering for the Wilton Cougars. Somehow ADian had made an impression on that team.
