The runaways Chapter 18 (June 6th, 2007) 11:42 a.m. None of them saw the car until it was too late. It slammed into the side of the squad car sending both boys slamming into the other passenger door. knocking them both out. Officer Nick Holms was also knocked out blood was running down his forehead and he was injured severely. There were people on the street who saw the big SUV slam into the police car and watched as two men got out of the vehicle grabbing the two occupants out of the back seat. Another car pulled up and loaded the boys into the back seat of the car. Then went back and search the police car. They came out with two back packs and what someone thought was a computer. Then got into the car and raced away. The runaways Chapter 18 (TONY) Tony heard about the police car getting hit down on main street. He wasn't that far away so he rushed over to see the crash. He was hoping it would not be the car the boys were in. When he was talking to some of the people who had witnessed the crash. He found out two young men were taken from the back seat of the car and moved to a black car. Tony's first thought was that they were taking the boys to the hospital but the guy he talked to said they were going in the wrong direction. It was then that he decided to try and follow the car. The first thing he noticed was the black tire tracks. Then the trash cans that had been knocked over. This went on until he came to a stretch of road with no tracks. Not knowing what to do he just kept following the road. He thought about calling Tanner then realized if he did that, he might get the man worked up and worrying about nothing. He decided to send the boys a text to see if they would answer. When Tony turned at the next curve, he noticed a building and parked out front of the building was a black sedan. Slowly Tony made his way up to the building. It was then he remembered that he had the phone number for the Sheriff's department and the name of a Deputy Sheriff. "Black Hawk County Sheriff's department, how may I help you?" came the voice from the other side of the phone. "May I talk to Deputy Sheriff Cocrin?" Tony asked. Tony had to wait a few minutes till the voice came back to let him know he was being transferred. "Officer Cocrin, how may I help you?" "Hello, my name is Tony McAvoy and I am calling to report a kidnapping. Four men kidnapped two boys out of a Waterloo police car. I witnessed it happen and have followed the car to a building on the outskirts of Waterloo." Tony told the police officer. "Are you there now?" David asked with concern. "Yes sir, I am outside of the building now. I have the license plate number to the car that was used." Tony told the officer. "Give me the address and the plate number." David told the young man. Tony gave him the address and plate number. He also said there were four men besides the two boys. David told Tony to stay out of sight and to give him his phone number so he could call when he was close. A few minutes after Tony finished his call with the Sheriff, a Waterloo police car pulled up next to the black car. Tony watched as Officer Brandon got out of the car and the door to the building opened. Out stepped a man who then greeted the officer with a hand shake. Tony wondered if Officer Brandon was involved with the kidnapping. Tony decided to look around the building to see if there was any other way in besides the door the men just went in and out of. He did find several doors, but they were all locked. Tony was beginning to worry that the Sheriff was going to be too late. It was then he decided to see if he could help the boys. (Willy and Chase) Chase looked around the dark room, the only light coming in from a window in the doorway and a single light bulb hanging down from an extension cord. Once his eyes focused enough, he looked for Willy. There on the floor in front of him he saw his brother. His Face was beaten, and his arm was twisted in an unnatural position. Chase called out to his brother but received no answer. He could feel the cut on his forehead and a bump on the back of his head. He was scared and didn't know what to do. His hands were tied along with his feet. So, he couldn't get up and run if someone came back into the room. Chase continued to look around and work on getting his hands free. Just then the door opened, and Chase watched as Officer Brandon walked in the door. He began to shake as the man got closer. "How is my favorite little boy pussy?" The man said to Chase. "Fuck you, limp dick." Chase told the man. Steven back handed the boy knocking him to the floor. Sure, it was only one time, it had been a long day and he was horny. But for some reason that day he was having problems getting a hard-on. No matter what he did he wasn't able to get hard for the boy and now he was holding it against him. Steven picked the boy up and admired the big red mark he left on the boy's face. He was sure he broke the boy's nose, but he didn't care he would never have to look at it after today. "Where's the fucking computer?" He asked the boy as he threaten to hit him again. "Didn't you hear me the first time. Fuck off limp dick." Chase said with no fear. This time Officer Brandon punched the boy with five swift punches. The kid was lucky he was not knocked unconscious. "Where is the computer kid? The one we found was someone else's. So where is the Grangers computer? If you don't tell me I will kill your brother." Officer Brandon threatened. Chase knew if he told them where the computer was, they would be dead before the day would be done anyway. It had been Officer Holmes's Idea to push the computer under the passenger's side seat when he got in the car. At the time Chase thought it was a stupid idea but now it was a great idea. "You're going to kill us anyway. So why don't you just get it over with." Chase said. "Oh, come on baby why would we do that to a sweet piece of ass like you? You're the best fuck around." Steve said to the boy damn well knowing the boy would more than likely be dead and, in the river, as soon as they recovered the computer. Not only did his life depend on getting the computer but so did so many other people. Just then the man who was guarding the door came in and said something to Officer Brandon. Chase felt relief when the two men left the room. Willy heard everything that the officer said to his brother. He had also heard the man beat his brother and there was nothing he could do to protect him. His arm was broken and more than likely his leg. His face was bruised beyond recognition. His throat hurt from being choked and his penis hurt from being kicked several times. Willy couldn't move his body hurt so bad. Willy thought back to when the SUV crashed into the side of the police cruiser. He was thankful that Chase was knocked out. Willy had hit his head on the door and was knocked out for a few minutes. But had awoken as the men put him in the back seat of the car. When he asked what happened one of the men began punching him in the face. The next thing he knew he was awake and locked in a semi-dark room. With two men standing over him and Chase tied up in a chair. They began asking him about the computer and when he told them it was in his back pack, they called him a liar. When he kept telling them that was the computer, they kept beating him. They stomped on him, kicked him and beat him until he was unconscious. (Officer Steven Brandon) The first thing Steven did when he got to the abandon book reserve, was to go see if they had the right boys. Carter had called him letting him know the boys had been caught and where they were. But he had to see for himself. Plus, he needed to find out about the computer. Roxy led him up the stairs then down a long hall then around a corner and then to a door with a window. When he looked in, he could see the two teens. One laying on the floor and the other tied up in a chair. He could see both boys had been either beaten or had been hurt in the car crash. When he opened the door Chase, his favorite little fuck turned and looked at him. The little fucker pissed him off when he asked how his favorite boy pussy was doing. His reply made him angry. He hit the boy knocking him out of the chair. He smiled when he saw the big red mark he left on his face. That's what he gets for making fun of him. When he asked more questions, he got the same answers and he gave him two black eyes and messed up his face pretty good. He was going to miss that boy pussy of his but these two had cause a lot of people problems. Just then Roxy's told him Burt wanted to talk to him. So, he left and went downstairs to talk to Burt. Why the fuck they couldn't have had their office on the same floor confused him. Craig was standing outside and showed Steven into the room. "Yeah, He just came inside the door." Burt said into the phone. "Ok, Yeah. I will do that sir." Then he handed Officer Brandon the phone. Steven looked at it then said. "Hello?" "Just what the fuck do you think you are doing there." Came the voice of Jon Carter. "Just had to make sure your men didn't fuck up again." Officer Brandon told the man. He didn't like Carter the guy just had too much power over everyone. "Well get out of there before someone sees your car. Your carelessness could bring everything crashing down." Carter told him. "Well, it's your fault we are in this predicament anyway, I am just here to make sure the problem is being taken care of!" Steven snipped back at the man. There was silence coming from the other side of the phone. Then he heard Carter say. "Listen you punk ass pervert cock sucking pedophile you're in this just as deep as I am. Find the fucking computer or we are all going down. Now let me talk to Burt and get your ass out there and find the fucking computer." Steven handed the phone back to Burt and was just about to leave when Jacko stepped in front of the door. "What's your fucking problem?" Steven said to the man. "You're the fucking problem. You and your fucking pervert friends started this shit. Now it's your turn to end it or we will fucking end you." Jacko said as he got into Stevens face. It was then the yelling started. (Tony) It had been about ten minutes and the sheriff still wasn't there, so he decided to go inside. Slowly he opened the door and slipped in without letting to much light in. He could see two men going into a door down the hall, so he decided to go up the stairs and look up there first. More than likely they were keeping them on the main floor but maybe he would get lucky. There was a long hallway with several doors, so he made his way down looking in every door. When he came to the end of the hallway, he found a janitor's closet. Inside he found a water bucket and mop along with a tool box. He opened the tool box and found a hammer, two screwdrivers and some wrenches. He decided to take the hammer and screwdrivers with him. Once out in the hallway he rounded the corner and saw a man standing in front of a door. Damn, he said as he ducked back around the corner, trying to think of a plan. Then it came to him. He went around the corner and pulled the bucket into the hallway laid the mop handle down and went back to the corner and stuck his head around and said. "Hey, where's the bathroom." Then ran around the corner and into the janitor closet and closed the door. He heard the man hit the wall then fall to the floor and the gun slide across the floor. When he opened the door, the man was lying unconscious on the ground. He grabbed the man's leg and drug his heavy body into the closet. Once he had that done, he grabbed the gun and then moved down the hallway to the door the man was guarding. First, he went to Willy who was laying on the floor. He was shocked by what he was looking at. Willy's arm was twisted in a way that there was no way it was not broken. His leg wasn't in any better shape and his face was puffed up and swollen. He bent down and asked if he was ok but only got a nod. Then he went over to Willy's brother. He was awake and he asked if he could walk and Chase told him he could. Tony worked the knots on the ropes they had use to tie the boy up with, then began working on the knots around his ankles. Once he had them loose, he helped Chase to his feet. Then went over to see what he could do for Willy. He looked around for a way to carry him out but couldn't find anything. But while he was looking, he found a big air vent that he could hide Willy inside. It was a good thing he found the screwdrivers because they really came in handy. Once he got the grading opened, he helped Willy inside. Then went back to Chase, he led him out the door and down the hallway. When he reached the end, he opened the door to a stairway leading down to two more doors. He recognized it as the one that led outside. The other led back into the building. Tony had to make a choice. The cops weren't here yet, so he decided to go find a room to hide in. He helped Chase inside the door then told him he would be right back. Tony opened the door going outside so it would look like that was the way they had gone. Then he went back in to get Chase. They got lucky because the first door they came to was open and they slipped inside. There they found shelves after shelves of books. They maneuvered their way around stacks of books and found an old steel desk that had been turned upside down and decided it would be a good place to hide behind (Officer David Cocrin) It had been a great morning and afternoon. Peter and he had spent the morning making love and after having a good breakfast. They had to go their separate ways. But not before setting up another date for Friday. A movie and dinner, then back to David's house for another night of love making. Sure, the kid was sixteen but in Iowa's the age of consent is sixteen. He had only been in the office for an hour when he got the call from Tony McAvoy. He told his captain he had receiced a call about a kidnapping and was going to go and investigate. Once in his car he called his partner Deputy Watkins for back up. Then made his way to the address that the teen had given him. Watkins pulled up at the same time and when they got out, they heard shots being fired. Both men rushed to the door where there was a black sedan and Waterloo police cruiser parked in front of. David signaled for Watkins to go around to the back just in case they tried to escape that way. While David went in the door in front of him. Once inside he could see two men with guns drawn, going room to room. Then they heard more gun fire. Both men turned around and raced up the stairs and into the direction of the shots being fired. David ducked around a corner just before the two men ran up the stairs. David was quick to follow. The men were moving fast down the long hallway only to slow down to go around the corner. Then slowed to a halt before going forward. When the two men turned around, David raised his gun and called out. "Drop the guns and raise your hands." Before David had time to do anything else the two men shot. One bullet hit the wall behind him while the other grazed his right arm. With out hesitation, David fired his gun dropping both men to their knees. Rushing forward David pulled out two plastic ties and bound both men. He then pulled both men into one of the empty rooms. It was then that he heard someone call out. "Halt or I will shoot. Then three shots rang out. David hurried down the hall as he rounded the corner and saw two people on the ground and the door at the end of the hall closing. One of the men laying on the ground looked to be in a uniform so David rushed over to the man. It was officer Watkins It appeared he had been shot three times. Twice in the chest, the other shot looked to graze his head. The shot more then likely knocked him out. His bullet proof vests may have just saved his life. David grabbed his radio and called for backup with an officer down. He also reported that there was a shooter still on site. (Officer Nick Holms) When he came to, the fire department was cutting him out of his squad car. His left side of his body felt numb and his right arm was pinned between the steering wheel and door, more than likely it was broken. Nick tried to look behind him to see if the two boys were ok. But he could not see anyone and the door was opened. He hoped that they got out without being injured. When they made the last cut, pain rushed to his brain and he fell unconscious. The next thing he remember seeing was two EMT's loading him into the back of the ambulance. "Don't try to talk just blink if you can understand me." The EMT asked. So Nick blinked his eyes. "We have an oxygen tube down your throat because one of your lungs has collapsed. Lay as still as possible and we will take care of you." The young EMT told him. "Was there anyone else with you in the car?" The other EMT asked. "Blink once for yes and twice for no." If the boys were not on the scene then someone helped them escape or someone took them, so he blinked once. Nick was scared. Not for himself but for the two boys. He hoped they were safe but there was nothing he would be able to do right now. Then he remembers the computer. He had the younger of the two boys hide it under the passenger seat. He would have to find someone he could trust to retrieve it. Then he blacked out again. (Tanner) Tanner was on call for the rest of the week. Usually he wasn't called out as an EMT unless it was a busy afternoon. When his cell went off, he hopped into his car and then told Eric to call him if he heard from the boys or Dr. James Stevenson. Then rushed to the location of the call. It was the old reserve book depository. When he pulled up there were five police vehicles there. Two Waterloo cruisers and three Sheriff vehicles. Two squads and one SUV. There was an officer at the door and waved him in. then led him up a stairway and down a hallway. There he saw two men inside a janitor closet but was told those men could wait. There was a police officer up a head who needed to be taken care of first. When he followed the officer around the corner, he saw officer Watkins laying on the floor. He rushed over set his bag down and pulled out the stuff he would need. He first checked for a pulse and it was strong. He checked his eyes but got no response from his pupils. Tanner then went to work looking for a head injury. He could see the blood on the floor around the head and in the hair, but the blood did not tell him where he had been shot. When he found the location, he noted that the bullet had hit the brain cap and was still lodge under the skin and there was a possibility that it had penetrated part of the skull. He carefully applied pressure to the wound to stop the bleeding there was nothing he could do right now. If he removed the bullet it could cause hemorrhaging. So, he rapped the skull and got him ready for transport. He was told by one of the officers that there were two ambulances on the way. He then checked the other man lying in the hall. He felt for a pulse but there was none. The man had been shot in his forehead. When he stood up, he noticed another body just inside the doorway. This man was also shot in the forehead. When he checked the body, he notices a backpack laying on the floor. When he walked over and picked it up, he saw it belonged to Willy. "Officer!" Tanner called out. The officer came rushing into the room. He saw Tanner holding a backpack and said. "What's that?" The officer asked. Tanner just rolled his eyes and said. "It's a kids backpack." He said, "We need to look around, there might be injured kids hiding around here." The officer then got on his radio and the search began. (Willy) He heard the shot and watched as the man fell to the floor. Terrified he tried to move further into the vent. He heard someone else arguing and then another shot. Tears were running down his face and he began to sob. He knew he had to be quiet or they would hear him. He was so scared he no longer felt the pain in his leg or his arm. He was also praying that Tony and Chase were able to get away. They were the reason for the argument between the men. Officer Brandon took the shot before the man could say another word. The other man must have come back to see what had happened and Brandon must have shot him too. For a few minutes it was quiet in the room. He saw a shadow moving across the doorway then he heard someone say. "Halt or I will shoot." Then three more shots rang out. Again, things went quiet. This time he heard someone outside the doorway calling for backup. Willy thought he must have fallen asleep and he swore he could hear Tanner's voice. He tried calling out, but nothing escaped his mouth. He tried again but still nothing. He was scared he was going to be left there to die. (Tony and Chase) The two teens were huddled down behind the desk. Tony had gone to the door he was going to see if the coast was clear, but when he heard the gunfire, he hurried back to Chase and hid. Chase held onto Tony and cried on his shoulder. Tony tried to comfort him the best he could. The building was now quiet, Tony didn't know which was worse all the shooting or the silence. Tony was wondering if he should call the deputy sheriff or if he should call Tanner. When he looked at his phone, he realized the battery was almost dead. He would be lucky if he got two words in before it died. So, he decided to sit it out with Chase and hoped they could be rescued by the deputy sheriff. He hoped the deputy would remember that he had called from outside the building and he would look for him. (Jon Carter) Officer Brandon had called him and gave him the bad news. His men were either dead or under arrest and it would only be a matter of time before everything came crashing down. He was at home now packing his bags and emptying out his home safe. He had a couple thousand dollars that would last him for a few weeks. Plus, he had more money stashed in a couple banks around the country. He grabbed his passport along with his birth certificate and other important paperwork. He figured once he got to where he was going, he could transfer all his money from the bank here in town. Fuck, fuck, fuck is all he could think. Why the fuck did he put the boys in Grangers house. There were plenty of other homes he could have put the boys and not had any problems. Now everything was going to hell. Even Peter had not reported in. What the fuck is going on. So many things kept running through his mind and if he didn't get out of there now, he would be going to jail. With his bags packed Jon took one last look around his house then left. (Officer David Cocrin) David was sitting down in the office downstairs. He was looking at a laptop computer in front of him. He was trying to figure out who the computer belongs too. He was also trying to figure out why the men were willing to kidnap two kids for it and where were the kids right now. Tanner had already looked at his arm and wrapped it. Now he was out with the other deputies looking for the missing kids. Finally, David was able to bring up the administrator page on the computer. when he read the name, he remembered the young man who called him. This computer belongs to Tony McAvoy. He got up and then went outside and started to call out. "Tony McAvoy!" "Tony!" "Tony!" When the young man didn't answer he went inside the building and called out. "Tony McAvoy!" When the door at the end of the hall way opened a crack and a young man looked out the door. He called out again "Are you Tony McAvoy?" The young man opens the door wider and stepped out and said. "Yeah, are you Deputy Cocrin?" David smiled and shook his head. He could see the teen relax and step out further. Behind Tony was a young man who looked to be severely beaten. David quickly moved down the hallway and picked the young teen up and rushed him outside to the ambulance. Tanner just happened to be there when David came out with the boy in arms. He rushed over and took the boy out of David's arms and laid him down on the ground. Tanner quickly said something to the boy and the teen relaxed. David watched as Tanner check the teen out and then moved him to the ambulance. Tony stood and watched and waited before he said something to Tanner. David watch as the two rushed back into the building. But before Tanner went inside, he told the ambulance driver to bring a stretcher. David followed the two as they ran up the stairs. When he caught up to the two, they were back in the room where David found the third body. In the far corner Tony was unscrewing and opening an air vent. Tanner reached inside and pulled out another unconscious teenager. David watched as Tanner went to work on the teen. When the ambulance attendant brought the stretcher in, Tanner had the teens arm in a splint and was working on the teens leg. The attendant lowered the stretcher brought out the back board and set it down next to the teen. Slowly they rolled the teen onto the backboard and then put him on the stretcher and then they were gone. Both David and Tony followed the men outside and then watched as Tanner and the attendants get into the ambulance and drive off. "I think I have your computer?" David told the teen. Tony had a guilty look on his face. "Can you tell me how these men got your computer? "Ah, I am not sure. Sir." Tony told the officer. David looked at the teen and said. "I think the boys had it do you know how they might have gotten it?" Tony had to think fast, the boys must have taken it with them from the warehouse. So, it is possible they grabbed it by mistake. Then he remembers they went back to the house. It was then he decided to tell the deputy he used the house on hickory street. "It is possible that they found it at a house I sometime use to get away from my mom. They could have found it there." He told the deputy. David thought about that, it was possible. Then David asked how Tony had found the boys. Tony went on to tell him how when he saw the men take the boys out of the waterloo police cruiser, he decided to follow. It seemed weird that they would take the two boys to the hospital and not the police officer. So, when they went the opposite direction from the hospital he followed. He said he followed the turned over trash cans and the tire tracks. Which had led him to this building. His story was completely plausible. "Well, I am going to have to take it in as evidence. You don't have anything on there that you don't want people to know about do you?" David asked Tony. Tony blushed and said there might be some pictures of him naked. David chuckled and then asked. "Have you shared them with anyone? "Gawd no I could get in real big trouble doing that." Tony told the deputy. He wasn't lying, His father was in jail for sharing photos of young teens and that is why he was in jail. "Ok, Ok, don't worry I won't say anything about it. There is no need to let anyone else know about it as long as you are honest with me." David told the young teen. Tony was beginning to like this police officer. The two talked a little more before David had to go. (Tony) It was starting to get dark out and Tony hadn't thought about how he was going to get back to town. It would be a long walk. That was when he noticed Tanners car. He walked over to it and found the door was open and the keys inside. Tanner was going to need it later so, Tony decided to drive Tanners car to the hospital. Tony only had his drivers permit but figured if he obeyed the laws no one would know that. So, he got into the car and made his way to the hospital. He parked in the visitor parking and then went in to find Tanner to give him his keys. There were people everywhere. City police, county sheriffs, Social workers, Doctors, nurses and lawyers. When he found Tanner, he was talking to an older doctor. When Tanner notice Tony, he called him over. "James, I would like you to meet your grandson's guardian angel." Tanner told the older doctor. "I am glad to meet you. Tanner has told me how you have helped my grandsons. It's not often people help complete strangers." He said shaking the young teens hand. "I was just paying back what someone did for me, sir." Tony told the man he was shaking hands with. "How are they doing?" "Well, Willy has a broken right arm, right broken leg and a concussion. While Chase is doing much better, he has contusions all over his body, both of his wrist are sprained. He will be happy to see you. He has been asking for you." The Doctor said. Tanner then asked Tony. "How did you get here?" "Oh, I drove your car here. I hope it's ok?" Tony said as he looked guilty to Tanner. Tanner smiled and told him it was ok. (Officer Nick Holms) Nick woke after surgery. He no longer had the tube down his throat, but it was still extremely sore. The first thing he thought of were the boys found and were they safe. He tried to sit up in his bed but when he tried his chest began to hurt. He found the nurses button and pressed the button. A few minutes later a nurse walked in the room. "Well, look who is awake. How are you feeling?" she asked. Nick tried to speak but it came out as a bunch of garbled. She smiled and then picked up a pad and a pen and handed it to him. He wrote. I am awake and my throat is very sore. Do you know anything about two teenage boys who might have been brought in after a car accident? She told him she didn't know about teens in an accident but there were two boys brought in about three hours ago. Nick then wrote asking. If she could call and ask if Deputy David Cocrin could come in and talk to him. She told him she would call him and then she told Nick he needs to get his rest. The doctor would be coming in to check on him in about an hour. So, Nick closed his eyes.
