THE VANDERKILL LEGACY BY Ted Macklen Suddenly for Harry Vanderkill there was so much to do. Leaving the children to enjoy their Christmas presents and the other adults to linger over desert Harry and James set out to make plans. When Mr. Corbett showed up Harry led him to the old barn on the hill behind the house and told him that that was where he was going to build his new home.He would put Sean Clancy in charge of the property and the Clancys would then have his present home to live in. He also said that for the present he would appreciate it if the Corbett boys were to act as body guards as there were unscrupulous men who appeared to be out to harm Ronny, Danny and sammy. At three o'clock a smart looking horse and carriage appeared. Harry grabbed Ronny, Danny and Sammy and with James and a body guard they were off. The boys still had no idea where they were off too. The first stop was at a tailor's shop which had been opened just for them. There the boys were outfitted in new suits while the taylor grumbled about not having time to design new ones for the lads. From there they went to a bakery where the boys were loaded down with cooked turkeys, hams and pies. "Is this for us to take home?" Ronny asked. "No," his father responded, "You said that you would like to go by the mission where they had been so nice to you. You and your new brothers are taking them gifts." "Wow, is this all for the mission?" asked Danny. "Yes it is and it is a gift of Christmas Dinner from the three of you." " Are we going to see Auntie Mary?" asked an excited Sammy. Harry picked Sammy up and put him on his lap. "Yes we are I hope," he said holding the boy close. "You can wish her a Merry Christmas." he would have tickled the boy but Sammy was too wrapped up for that. Soon they arrived at the Mission and the boys burst in bearing their gifts of food. At the Mission they were preparing the Christmas dinner which they had prayed would be enough for everyone. A man in a clergy collar burst into a smile when he saw the food coming through the door and then showed surprise when he saw who was carrying it. Harry stepped forward and introduced himself. The Reverend Mr. Green was surprised to learn who Ronny really was. Harry thanked the man for looking after his boys. After chatting for a while Harry left the minister an address to reach him and express any needs. He then gave Mr. Green a cash donation. The boys went into the back to give Mrs. Green or "Aunt Mary" as the boys called her a hug and a Christmas kiss before they all left. Then they all got back into the cab and went on to Delmonico's for dinner. The boys had never seen such a place. Even Ronny had never been there before. While they were eating desert Harry told them that the next day they were going on a train ride and that they were going to spend a few days in the country. The boys who had been becoming sleepy after the long and exciting day were suddenly wide awake and full of questions but neither Harry nor James would answer any of them except to say"You will find out tomorrow." With that Harry took his tired but excited troupe home. At the house Harry told Sean and Mary his plans and that they would soon be having this house for themselves when Harry and the boys moved into the new home he was building behind. "What about your father's home?" Sean asked. "I don't want it." Harry replied. "I will be selling it. I don't ever want to go back there. I hate that place with a passion. If I can't sell it I wll have it torn down." The three boys rushed upstairs to find the bathing tub had been filled with hot water. Stripping off their clothes the three naked boy got into the tub together. With little Sammy there the older two were not going to engage in any of the games they had played the day before. Holding back their desires they both washed little Sammy from head to tow including his private parts. Then they washed each other completely sending unrequited feeling trembling through their young bodies as certain parts were touched. Then the rushed into Ronny's room and donned their nightshirts. They looked at each other, Ronny jerked his head and then giggling the three of them ran down the hall and into Harry's room. They jumped on his bed and under the covers. With one final giggle they were soon asleep cuddled up together. Harry came up the stairs and looked into Ronny's room to say good night figuring the boys were there. Seeing that the beds in the room were empty he then figured that they must have gone to the guest room. He went to his room and saw the lump on his bed. Shrugging his shoulders he got himself ready for bed and crawled under the covers. It was going to be a cold night. He snuggled up to Ronny with little Sammy snuggling up behind. Making sure that Sammy was asleep he slowly started jacking into Ronny's backside. Soon he was going full force. Then came the release. He felt his own wet jism under his nightshirt. Getting out of bed he cleaned himself off. Then he got back in bed and went to sleep. When he woke up Harry found himself on his back with little sammy on top of him.Soon they were all awake and the boys ran off to get dressed. Right after breakfast the horse and carriage was once again waiting outside. After leaving last minute instructions with Sean and Mr. Corbett and seeing their luggage stowed they were off. To say that the boys were excited would be an under statement. Even Ronny had never ridden on a train before and all Sammy could talk about was seeing a choo choo train. At the station while the boys ran around looking at all the trains waiting to depart James went and found out which track they would be on and saw to it all the luggage was stowed in the private car. This car really fascinated the boys and they soon were exploring it. It was divided into two sections. One contained the sleeping quarters and the other contained living quarters including a small writing desk. The group was no sooner ensconced on the car than shouts of "all aboard" could be heard up and down the platform. As the train pulled out of the station the boys were glued to the windows watching the City pass from view. Soon all they could see was country on one side and the Hudson River on the other. After a while the crossed the river in a bridge. They passed Bear Mountain, West Point and Newburgh and near to noon they were coming into Albany where their private car would be switched to another train. They had several hours to wait in Albany which the boys were told was the state capitol. While waiting they went to a restaurant and had lunch during which the Governor came to meet with Harry. Then it was back to the station to join their new train and go on to New Falls. Harry had no idea what would await them there. No family member had apparently been to the country estate in years. The town was reported to be in financial despair. Harry could only hope for the best as he went to the place where he had had so many happy childhood memories and where he now hoped his children would develop their own happy memories. He also hoped to meet once again with some of his childhood friends. Meanwhile Ronny, Danny and Sammy continued to look with fascination out of the windows as the train continued along the Erie Canal. To their left they passed low valleys lush with vegetation. To their right grew rugged snow peaked mountains. Over head was a gray cloudy sky. Soon it was snowing again and it seemed to be getting colder out as they went on. Thank goodness for to comforting fire burning in the oven in the car. When at last they arrived at New Falls Harry had to wake the boys. Their private car was disconnected from the train and put on the siding. A lone man was waiting to greet them on the small station. "Howdy," he said. "I hope you wasn't expecting too much. The hotel hasn't had too many customers this year. Times've been kinda rough. Most o' the stores have shut down by Mary Reed's place is still open. I'll take you to the hotel. We still got a couple of rooms available and I set up a fire in the lounge when we heard you was a coming. In the mornin' we'll get you a sled to take you out to the farm. Old Sally Farnsworth went up ahead to see if she could get it ready. We sure weren't a expecting no one but we done our best." With that the old man led a disconsolate Harry, James and the boys to the old worn down hotel. To be continued
