TIME FOR A CHANGE This is not a quick tale, but a story over a period of time of finding, helping and loving. It was a typical dreary, windy day, the sort of day that you wished you were going on holiday, to a nice warm sunny country. Well I was sitting in Bristol Airport, not going on holiday but to live, in hopefully sunny, Spain. Retired at the age of 49, single, gay and looking forward to escaping the rat race, as many others have done in the past.I decided to find a rental property until I felt settled and happy in my surroundings. The flight was good, and the sun shone as I stepped off the plane, after collecting my bags, I got a taxi to Benalmadena, which took about 15 mins, and arrived outside the apartment block. On the 5th floor and overlooking the sea, I was happy to unpack, have a shower and make a cup of tea, and sit out on the balcony to survey the scene before me. It wasnt long before I nodded off for about twenty mins, looking at my watch I saw it was approaching 7.00, and time to find somewhere to eat, got changed and walked out into town. Benalmadena is as you probably know, a tourist town, lots of eating places, mostly typical egg and chips etc tourist fare.So I wandered slightly out of the town and found a nice looking italian restaurant, and decided a Pizza would suit me with a beer, then a walk back and get my head down for the night. This was the plan and it all went that way, nice Pizza and lovely walk back to the apartment, picking up a bottle of Spanish brandy on the way, had a large slurp of the brandy and turned in for the night, soon dead to the world. In the UK, i was an Antiques Dealer specialising in Motoring memorabilia , travelling all over the country, which was very interesting. A lot of dealing in this can be done on-line these days, and I was hoping to carry on doing just that. There are quite a few car clubs in this area and with Marbella being quite close, a lot of high end cars in the area. So time will tell on wether it will prove to be good for trade. Morning arrived to be greeted with lovely sunshine streaming throught the window. After a shower and a cup of tea, I strolled down to the Marina and found a nice little Cafe and had coffee with some pastries, then took a walk along the front towards the La Carihuela, a lovely flat walk right beside the sea, with trees loaded with parakeets chirping merrily every few yards. Arriving at a small square, I noticed a rather beautiful Jaguar E-Type parked with a man just about to get in it, I walked over to him and asked if he was aware of any classic car clubs in the area, he said there most certainley was , apologised for being in a hurry and gave me his card inviting me to email him so he could give me more details. So when I got home I did just that, and later in the afternoon I got a reply. Apparently the guy I spoke to was called Chris Jones, and was the Vice-President of the Costa del Sol Classic Car Club, and he invited me to the next meeting which was next Sunday in Marbella. I replied to say thank-you, but I didnt have any transport at the moment, so wouldnt be able to get there this time, but maybe the next meeting if that was possible. A reply was sent straight away giving me his phone number, asking me to call him when convenient. So later that evening I called him and he invited me over for some lunch tomorrow, he gave me the address for the taxi driver and we arranged for me to be there at 1.30 tomorrow. I then walked into town and sorted a new spanish sim card plan out for my phone, had a nice meal in a small out of the way restaurant, then strolled home. Sorted some emails out on my laptop, then poured a brandy and got into bed. Within minutes I was asleep. The next morning I woke to gorgeous sunshine flooding the balcony, so I sat there with a coffee to plan the day. Needed a supermarket trip to stock up the fridge and get essentials, so researched the nearest one to me and it was Lidl , about a 10 minute walk it seemed. So I showered, shaved and off I went, stopping for a coffee and croissants on the way, picked up everything I needed and walked back, making a mental note of the nearest Taxi rank to the apartment. About 1.00 I strolled to the Taxi rank and gave the driver the address, a nice ride along the coast and up into the countryside to Mijas, a white village just off the coast, and stopped outside a rather large impressive house. I walked through the gate and rang the bell and Chris answered the door and invited me in. 'Glad you could make it , come on in, we had better introduce ourselves properly. Im Chris Jones, as you know connected to The Costa del Sol Classic Car Club, and an Estate Agent for my sins' 'Im very pleased to meet you' I said,' I am Martin Foulkes, recently retired and just arrived here, I buy and sell Motoring Memorabilia, previously in Uk, but as its nearly all on-line these days hope to do the same in a sunnier and more relaxed country' A that moment the door opened and a rather beautiful lady came into the room. Chris introduced her as his wife Sonia, we shook hands and all sat down, ' Good Afternoon' she said. ' Sorry I wasnt here to welcome you , but I had to dash into Marbella to sort something out, very pleased to meet you now though' 'Well the pleasure is all mine' I said, 'having just arrived just here its nice to meet people and to gain some insight to the area, and indeed some help in finding classic car clubs that I am very much interested in' Familiarites over, we then went onto the terrace over looking a lovely lawned garden and had lunch, all laid out on a large table and served by a young Spanish girl, we chatted about our interests, the car club, the area and all manner of things. I asked Chris about buying property and also purchasing a car, he advised not being in a hurry to buy property, there are plenty of bargains to be had, but to take time choosing is very important. He offered to keep an eye open for me and also introduce me to a couple of trustworthy car dealers in the area , all of which was going to be helpful in the coming months. His wife then excused herself and went back into the house. The chat then got round to cars and Chris asked me what sort of car would I be looking for. My preferred choice I said would be a Mercedes, as thats is what I drove back in uk. and loved the marque very much, preferrably an E Class Coupe is the sort of thing, Chris thought that an excellent choice and said he would give my email to a couple of dealers he mentioned before if that was acceptable to me. I agreed straight away. We then chatted about the Car Club and suggested that if I got a taxi next sunday here to his house then I could accompany him to the meeting, introduce me around and bring me back so I could then get a taxi back to my apartment, all of which I accepted with out hesitation. With all that arranged , Chris called a taxi for me and I left to go home, having made a good contact and learned some valuable things about the area. I spent the evening answering emails, sorting out a new Spanish ebay account, arranging a meet at Santander Bank in the morning to sort a bank account out, arranging to see a Gestoria about getting Spanish residency and sorting out all the legalities with living in Spain.Time for bed I thought, so making a tea, I went to bed, rather tired after a very full, but productive day. The next day being Saturday, I planned to go to Fuengirola market, to buy fresh fruit and veg and also peruse the stalls for anything interesting. So I rose at 7.00 and grabbed a shower and got a Taxi along to the market, about a 10 minute drive, popping into a cafe for coffee and croissants at the entrance, the area was buzzing with people and stall holders. Lots of superb Fruit and veg available, but all the rest was clothes, footwear, cd's and the like, so feeling disappointed at the lack of motoring things that I would be interested in, I started to leave when I saw a scruffy lad with a sheet on the ground strewn with some metal items.I strolled over to find most of it was lots of tools but also some car things, like badges, lights, instruments etc. My eyes lit up at some of the things on view, so I asked the prices in my poor spanish and was surprised to find he was english, which made the conversation much easier. It appears that he was here with his mother, and was trying to raise some money after his Father had been taken to hospital. He obviously had no idea of the worth of some of the items, some of which were quite valuable. I explained my thoughts to him, and that I thought he could get much more money by selling it in a different way. So I suggested that he packed it all away and went to his house, and went through it properly so he could get the best price, which he needed desperately. He put the items in a box which he then strapped onto the carrier on an old bike, I hailed a taxi and followed him to where he lived, it turned out to be an old house on the edge of town which had an old shed attached to it. He opened the door and indicated I should follow him in, it was just a room with a sofa, couple of chairs and a table at which a lady sat. He introduced me to her, and told her what had happened at the market this morning. I explained to her that the items her son was trying to sell at market, some of which were quite valuable, but totaly unsuitable to sell at a market if you wanted a good price. Whilst I was looking for items that they had, for me to buy and sell, I am not the sort of person to take advantage of a situation that this family were in. We sorted the good things out and I explained about selling them on the net, Josh ( the lads name ) knew about ebay, but them not having the internet made that no good for them to consider. It was quite clear the family needed some help, apparently father had been a mechanic, but whilst working under car the jack had collapsed and the car fell on him causing serious damage to his chest and had been in hospital now for about 8 weeks with no signs of him being home soon. Consequently money was tight with rent to pay, fares to visit hospital and food to find. So after speaking with Barbara ( mum) we decided I would help with selling the items. So we arranged for Josh to get all the items we sorted out into a box and get a taxi to my apartment tomorrow where we could get them onto the net, I gave Josh some money for the taxi , which Barbara made me promise i would take from the sales. With that I got a taxi home, then sitting down with a beer, I reflected on what had happened. Josh was, I would think, about 15, slim, and a really nice bum, hehehehehe. Now behave I thought, but he was very sexy. I have always liked young lads , not kids, late teens really. With those thoughts I had an early night, taking care of young Martin before I fell asleep. The next morning I woke to hear the apartment bell ringing, hurridly put a dressing gown on, opened the door to find it was Josh, ' Blimey your early ' I said 'Come on in' 'Sorry' he said 'But it is 10.00, thought you would be up and about by now' cheekily grinning. 'well come into the kitchen, would you like some breakfast' 'yes please' he said 'Im starving, can I help at all' 'Well you can make some coffee and get some toast on whilst I grab a shower and get dressed' I had a quick shave, got into the shower. Martin thought he saw a shadow of someone by the bathroom door, but on second glance there didnt appear to be anyone there, dried himself and got dressed. When I returned to the kitchen there was toast and coffee on the table, so we sat down and started to chat about things in general. I then asked him what happened to get into the situation, him and his mum were in. Apparently they decided about 6 months ago to move to Spain, as his mum suffered with arthritis and they had found, when on holiday in the past, that the warmth helped a lot. Dad was a mechanic and started to build up a business servicing cars in the local area. Things were going really well, he was even looking into renting a large garage and taking on more work. Then one day under a car, the jack collapsed, and the car came down onto his chest. Anyway he is now in hospital, and it looks like a lengthy stay there until he got better. In the meantime money was getting short, and dad asked Josh to see if he could sell some things from his shed at market.Hence the reason Martin saw him at the market. They had bought a lot of car items from uk with them as Dad was a bit of a hoarder, but now they were glad they did. Martin then told Josh his story of being there and how he had just arrived a few days before, his history of selling car memorabilia and why he wanted to help. Josh asked if Martin was married and had any kids. Martin said he was single and had never married, then changed the subject quickly to selling the things Josh had bought over. As Josh didnt have any internet and therefore unable to sell on line, Martin set up a new email, ebay account and paypal account. Josh didnt know any of his dads bank details so used Martins bank so as to get started. They spent nearly all day listing lots of items and by mid afternoon had listed 50. Time to get some lunch, Martin said, so they walked into town and had pizza and a drink, they chatted a lot, apparently Josh was 17 and was hoping for his Dad to train him so as to be a mechanic, but all that was on hold for the moment. Martin asked him how he felt leaving all his friends behind in uk. Josh went very quiet, ' I hated school, had very few friends and was bullied everyday, in all honesty was glad to leave it all behind' 'Well ' Martin said,' Now is your chance to start again, make new friends, have fun, enjoy life' 'I doubt that will happen, we might have to go back to UK unless Dad gets better, cant live on fresh air and sunshine can we , and I couldnt stand going back to where we lived before' 'Why would that be so terrible? ' Josh started to sob, ' just couldnt, we lived in a tiny village on Dartmoor, miles from anywhere, everyone knows each others business, it was awful' ' Well it hasn't happened yet so dont worry over it until it happens. Come on lets walk to the taxi rank then you can get back to your mum' Josh stood up then said 'Can we just go for a walk, no rush to get back, mum is visiting dad today' So off they went, just walking slowly, not saying anything. Martin broke the silence ' So what was so bad that you dont want to go back to uk, I presume you havent murdered anyone, stolen the Crown Jewels, planted a bomb, stolen a bus' Josh giggled a bit ' No none of those things, everyone there hates me, wont talk to me, school is worse, bullied, pushed, laughed at, it never stops' ' Well I think lots of lads have that happen to them, I certainly did, but you learn to deal with it until you leave it all behind you, then you find that your not very much different to everyone else in the world' Josh shrugged his shoulders, 'Well I am' He shouted 'I'm queer, so thats it, now you know as well, I'm off home now after getting my things, thanks for your help, doubt I will see you again' 'Wooah, not so fast young man. Getting all stroppy with me, why would you doubt I wouldn't want to see you again, that is for me to decide, if you dont want to see me then thats your choice, understand?' 'I suppose so, but I'm queer' 'Well that makes two of us, but the terminology isnt queer, its gay, but if you still want to walk away then off you go, I would still be willing to help you, but if me being gay is uncomfortable for you then its no problem, off you go' 'Oh' was the reply, ' I didnt realise you were queer, sorry, gay.Im sorry to have jumped to an opinion on something I know very little about, thought that I was so different to nearly everyone and no one would want to know me' Martin laughed, 'There are thousands of lads like you in the world, all a bit afraid, trying to come to terms with their sexuality, not knowing, understanding and a little bit scared, well now you know your not alone, you can talk to me about anything whenever you like, come on, lets get back and get something to eat and see how ebay is getting on with your stuff thats for sale' So they got back, checked ebay but no sales yet, Martin walked Josh to the Taxi rank and off he went, giving Martin a smile and a wave as the taxi left. When Martin got home, he showered, popping a right boner as he thought of Josh, put his dressing gown on and went into the lounge, as he sat down his mobile rang and answered it to hear it was Chris Jones, ' Hi Martin. just wanted to tell you that a car dealer friend of mine has just taken a Mercedes E Class Coupe in part exchange, I remember you told me you would like one if one became available' 'Yes that would be great, love to have a look at it if thats possible'Martin replied. 'Well I will give you his number then you can have a chat to him' Chris said which he did. Martin thanked him , also confirming the details of the car meet on Sunday. With that Martin poured himself a Brandy, answered some emails, checked ebay, watched the news then went to bed, the vision of Josh in his mind as he stroked himself to a glorious orgasm, then went to sleep with a definite smile on his face.
