I got a new laptop. One advantage of working 80 plus hours a week is I have a few dollars. No time but a few dollars. Anyuway. AP is on the old computer and I need to transfer it over. I should have done it yesterday just well I was lazy. Sorry. But, here is a new chapter of Transitions. Hope you enjoy it. If not. Well, sorry i think its good. Eric Hey while so many of you are laid off and have time. DOnate to Nifty. They like that and so do I. Transitions Book 2 Chapter 5 After they sat down and waited a few minutes the nurse tells them they can go to exam room 1. The entire crew goes in. Because it just seems like the right thing to do. Tran hops up on the exam table and the boys sit in the two chairs. Eric stands next to the table and anxiously waits for the doctor to show up. Within two minutes the door opens and a man in a white coat comes in. He is about six feet five inches tall wiry thin with bush red hair and a handle bar mustache. "Hello everyone." he says looking around the room at everyone. "I am Dr. Thomas Thomas. A name so nice my parents used it twice." He has a chart in his hand and glances at it. "OK I am here to meet Tran." He walks over yo Alejandro. "Would you be Tran?" Alejandro giggles. "No Im Alejandro. Tran is my brother." "Ah. I see." He says and looks at Joey. "So you must be Tran then." Joey giggles too. "No Tran is my older brother." "Ah older then I see." He walks over to Eric and extends his hand. "I am pleased to meet you Tran. I am Doctor Thomas Thomas. My you look very old for eleven." Eric shakes his hand. "No sir I am Eric. This is my son Tran." Eric says putting his hand on Trans shoulder. "Ah I see. Tran. I knew eventually I would find you." Tran is giggling. Thr doctor holds out his hand to Tran. I see you are from China originally is that correct?" "Yes sir." "Ah good." He says. Then starts speaking Mandarin to Tran. Tran listens and responds in mandarin as well. They do this for a few minutes and Tran just busts out laughing. The doctor looks confused and says in English. "What chicken lips aren't your favorite food? I think they are great." The doctor says smiling. "Chickens don't have lips sir." "Are you sure because my wife tells me thats what I am eating all the time and I love them." "I am pretty sure, yes sir." "Hmm," The doctor says scratching his head. "Wonder what that sweet woman has been feeding me?" "I don't know." Trans says still laughing. Becoming very serious the doctor starts saying. "I guess I will have to find out. OK Tran I have looked over your information that Dr Ross sent me. I have to be honest with you. I never lie to my patients. I don't think its fair to them or to me. So since I don't lie to you that means you must be honest with me. If something is bothering you I must know or I cant fix it or try to. Does that sound fair to you?" "Yes sir." "OK First off do you have any questions for me?" "Am I going to die?" "We all die. Its just a matter of when. I will like I said be honest with you Tran. I don't know. I can say that I certainly hope not for a long time. But, I just cant tell you on this. It doesn't look good that's for sure. However, we have been having some really good success from this new procedure." "How good?" Tran asks. "Tran if you went through the procedures at a regular hospital your odds of surviving would be about ten percent. With this procedure our success is really only slightly better. I would say honestly its fifty fifty. Because of the late stage it was caught at. If I would have seen you a few months ago it would have been much higher." Tran thinks for a moment then responds. "It is only December and it isn't yet the year of the rat again. So I will survive. If it was after January 25th my outlook wouldn't be so good." "What?" Eric says. "Tran was born in 2008 the year of the rat. In the Chinese zodiac if you have health issues in the sign you were born under the outlook is thought to be very poor. But, if its in another year then the outlook is better. If I recall correctly. Is that right Tran?" "Yes my mother always told me to be careful in the year of the rat. So it is not yet that year so I will be surviving this set back." He says smiling. "Let us hope so." The doctor says. "OK Tran now we have to do some unpleasant things like take blood and I will have to give you a complete physical. Do you want your brothers in here or no?" "I don't see why not. We are brothers." He says smiling at them. "OK Now if you would please disrobe so I can give you a once over." Tran does as he is asked and he disrobes then hops back up on the table. Eric is trying not to notice his private parts but, just cant help it. He sees Tran is about two and a half inches soft and is uncut. An interesting thing. Eric has never seen one uncut before. Well. He has seen one but, well he hasn't ever seen one up close and is wondering if he ever will. "OK Tran lets get this over with." The doctor says. He starts poking and prodding him and touching him everywhere. He has Tran stand and he feels his ball sack. Tran is instantly hard and turns crimson. "Sorry it does that all the time now." "Its perfectly normal my young friend. Its your age. If it didn't do that I would be more worried." Trans cock standing at attention at about four good inches and slim. Not super slim its thicker then Joey and Alejandro's. But, not got the girth yet of a man. He hasn't any hairs yet but, his balls are fairly good sized. The doctor has him sit back on the table and rubs down his legs and his feet. "OK nothing out of the ordinary for your condition. Now sadly I must take several vials of blood. Are you ready for that?" Tran looks to Eric and Eric takes his new sons hand in his. "I guess I have to huh?" "Sadly yes." The doctor pulls out a needle from a drawer and several vials. He puts the needle in Trans arm and Alejandro starts crying softly. Joey takes his hand and holds it. Tran winces when the needle goes in and squeezes Eric hand for all hes worth. "Just relax my young friend it will be easier on you." The doctor says. He removes one vial and replaces it with another. He does this six times. Tears are streaming down Trans face and Eric wipes them away with his thumb on his free hand. "Its going to be alright buddy. He is almost done." Eric says. Once the final vial is done the doctor removes the needle and puts a cotton ball there and lifts Trans hand up to his shoulder to hold the cotton in place. "Now hold that there for a minute." The doctor instructs him. The doctor opens a drawer and looks. "Yes I think you are a Star Wars boy and grabs a Star Wars Bandage and puts it over the cotton to hold it where it needs to be. "OK Tran we are done for now. I have your information and will be calling your dad tomorrow to see when we will admit you into the hospital to start treatments. My guess would be that it will be tomorrow or the day after at the latest." "Will it hurt?" "Yes it will. But, it will only hurt for a while. Because this therapy we have to inject into a bone. I think your hip will be best. We need to get it into your bone marrow for it to be more effective. So it will hurt like hell. I will try to make it as painless as possible. But, it will still hurt a lot. You will be sore as hell for a few days in that area. But, it will go away after a few days." "I wish I didnt ask that, or you lied to me." "I wont lie to you." The doctor says looking into Trans eyes. "Do you have any other questions for me?" "Can my Ba be in there with me?" "Yes if you want him to be. But, your bothers cant be. Sorry about that." Tran sighs deeply. "So a lot of pain for a few days to live." "That pretty well sums it up my young friend. Now you better get dressed before you scare one of my nurses with that monster of yours." Tran giggles. "Wish it was a monster." "I've seen lots of boys your age. Its a monster." The doctor says to make Tran feel good. Which it does Tran smiles and gets dressed quickly. The doctor reaches in his pocket and pulls out four suckers. "Now each of you has been very good and you may al have a sucker." He says and hands one to all of them Eric included. "Thank you sir." Alejandro and Joey say in unison. "Thank you doctor." Eric says shaking his hand again. "Your very welcomed." "OK my young friend I will see you in a day or two and we will go from there. Until then you boys go out and have some fun. Try some Corkys Barbecue its pretty tasty and definitely get the pecan pie ala mode. Its delicious." He says kissing his fingers, and walking out. "I like him." Tran says. "Yeah me too." Alejandro says. "Yeah hes funny." Joey adds his two cents worth. "I like that hes honest." Eric adds to the conversation. "You know it is near lunch time and I am starving. Whats say we try this Corkys he said? What do you think Tran I will let you decide." "Yeah I like BBQ. I say we give it a try." Tran says smiling. "I do believe your right about that." Eric says rubbing his head. "Lets go eat then boys." Which with Erics group is never a problem. Not a finicky one in the crew except him. When they were leaving a few people were still sitting around the piano. One man walked up and says to Joey. "Would you please play another song for us? You have such a wonderful talent and it made me forget a few minutes while I was here." "Dad?" Joey looks at Eric. Eric nods his head. Joey sits down at the piano and he starts singing Marc Cohns song Walking in Memphis. (If you don't know this song listen to it on Youtube or something its lovely.) When Joey gets to the part thats says When you haven't got a prayer. You've got a friend in Memphis. He adds Dr Tom Thomas gave my brother a prayer. He finishes the song and the man is crying now. He wipes his tears away with a handkerchief. Joey looks at him and smiles then breaks into an old Super Tramp song. Give a Little Bit. The man smiles knowing the song. When Joey sings I give a little bit of my love to you he looks at the man and smiles meaning he is indeed giving him a little bit of his love to him. As Joey is pounding the keys Alejandro walks over to the man and takes his hand. The man looks at him and smiles. Alejandro signals for him to bend down so he does. When he does Alejandro wraps his arms around the mans neck and hugs him. Then whispers something in his ear. The man smiles and Alejandro kisses him on the cheek. The man wraps his arms around Alejandro and hugs him tight. Then he lets him go and stands back up. Alejandro doesn't let go of his hand and they both watch Joey play. When Joey finishes this song. He starts singing Bob Marleys song Three Little Birds. He starts out singing without the piano "Dont Worry about a thing. Because every little thing is going to be alright." Then starts playing. The entire time looking at the man. Alejandro cant help it he has to dance to this song. He starts dancing around the man. The man is grinning ear to ear. Enjoying the show along with several others who are joining and smiling. "This is my message to you. Dont worry about a thing. Every little thing is going to be alright." Joey wails out. When he finishes the song. He looks at the man and smiles. Joey tickles the keys a moment thinking what to play next then breaks into the Jackson 5 classic I'll Be There. He sings it so amazingly Michael would have been jealous. He seems to emphasize the words that are more meaningful to the situation. Like Ill reach out my hand to you, and Ill be there to comfort you. Alejandro has stopped dancing now and goes back to holding the mans hand. Joey sings and the crowd has grown pretty large. Eric sees cell phones out and people taking videos of Joey. He isn't sure he likes this but, he understands the talent Joey has. People want to remember this moment. A young boy with such amazing talent. When Joey is done with that song he stands up and walks to the man. Joey walks to the man and says something. He cant hear because the people are all clapping so loudly. Eric walks over and puts his arm around the mans shoulder and they all walk out with him. The applause following them out the door. "What did you say young man?" "I said I hope that that made you feel a little better." "Yes it really did. We brought my son here he has leukemia. We dont know if he will survive or not. My wife and I are really struggling with this and it so hard. Just being able to forget a moment is heavenly. So thank you for that." "Anytime sir." Joey says. "Would you like to get your wife and join us for lunch. We are going to some place called Corkys the doctor recommended." Eric asks. "No we just cant." "Why not?" Asks Alejandro. "To be honest young man we just cant afford it." The man says looking rather glum. "We are staying at the Ronald McDonald house and they are so nice they feed us and dont even charge us to stay there. The people there are great." "Really?" Says Alejandro smiling knowing exactly what it is because he and Eric talked about it once because Eric has boxes in front of all of his registers for coins and cash for it. "My Poppi loves the Ronald McDonald house. He sends them lots of money. Its good to see it works. Huh Poppi?" Alejandro says looking up at Eric. "Yes buddy it certainly is nice to meet someone that is benefiting from it. Why don't you get your wife I would love to treat you guys to lunch." "I don't know. I just don't think it would be right. I mean its bad enough we are taking a hand out already. I would hate to add to it." Eric looks at him. "Sir, its definitely not a handout. Just like the Ronald McDonald house is not a handout. Its a helping hand for people like you and your family who are in need of some help. Its a shitty situation and people want to help people like you and your family. I tell my boys all the time that if you cant help the person in front of you then what good are you. You sir are in front of us and it would break my heart if you said no." Eric says with sincerity in his voice. "Its not just me and my wife. We have our other two children with us as well." He says trying to figure out a way to say no to someone who wont accept no as an answer. "The more the merrier. Are they at the Ronald McDonald house now?" "Yes my wife needed a bit of a break and I was waiting for your son to come back to play another song. Or so I was hoping. My wife said it would be hours before you came back. But, I was willing to wait." "Its just down the block right?" Eric says. "Yes sir." "Then lets go get them. Lets go have a nice meal and become friends. By the way I am Eric Murphey. My talented one is Joey and this one is Alejandro. He says putting his hand on his head. This is my newest son Tran." Eric says and extends his hand. The man takes it. "Im Joseph Smith. My friends call me Joe." "OK Joe lets go get my truck and we will go get your family and have a nice lunch." "I better call my wife first. She may get mad if I just show up. You know how women are?" "Yeah." Eric says smiling. The man calls and talks for a few minutes with his wife. He hangs up and says. "OK They will be ready in a few minutes. She said she will meet us at the entry way." "Lets get going then." Eric says and they walk to the parking garage. They all climb in the Escalade. Tran sits in back with his brothers and the man up front with Eric. "This is really nice." Joe says. "Yeah we got it a little while back. I thought the car would be too small when we get some of the boys friends and start hauling them around. I feel kind of guilty because its such a gas hog. But. It was this or a bus I guess." Eric says laughing. "Yeah tell me about it. We got a mini van. I don't know what we would do without it. Get the kids friends and go bowling or something we would have to take two trips otherwise." Joey hears bowling. "You like bowling?" "Yeah I do. I'm pretty good at it. I was on a league for years. Usually the captain. But, since little Joe got sick I haven't been able to much anymore." "We all love to bowl." Alejandro chimes in. "Maybe we can do that later if Tran feels up to it. He gets tired and we don't like to do things and he just watches." "I understand that. So Tran you are sick?" Joe asks. "Yes sir. But, Doctor Thomas says I have a chance now with this new procedure." "Yeah hes our doctor too. Hes really good. Little Joe really likes him." "Yeah he is funny. I like his mustache." Joey says. "Its a good one for sure." Joe says. At this time they pull up to the Ronald McDonald house and a lady is standing there with two kids a girl about 11 or so and a boy about 8. "There's my family." He says smiling. Eric can see the pride he has of his family. "Should we get out or just have them hop in and meet everyone at the restaurant?" Eric asks. "I think the restaurant will be fine." Joe says. As they pull to a stop he gets out and the boys all get in the back seat to allow the kids to sit with their mom. Eric smiles thinking that's nice of them. Joe opens the door and his kids climb in first and then his wife. Joe jumps back into the front seat and they take off. "Mr Murphey I Just want to say thank you for this treat. We just cant afford things like this anymore. Its just taking everything we have to stay afloat." Mrs Smith says. "Its my pleasure, and please call me Eric." He says. They have some light chit chat about the weather in Memphis and get to the restaurant. Eric parks and they all get out and go in. They are quickly seated and relax a moment.
