Turnhurst Manor by Razor Blade Chapter One It was a huge house. One of the men said there were at least 40 rooms. Turnhurst manor was only one of the few undamaged mansions in the area. Father had me by the hand and was dragging me down one of the many hallways. There were many rooms that looked good and we could have easily just put our stuff in one and gone back to the group. It seemed like he was looking for something and I was getting tired. We have been walking all day and now that we are here I wanted to rest. After about an hour of looking in room's dad finally seem to find what he was looking for. The room wasn't a big room, the other rooms we looked at were bigger, some had two bed and large windows some had bathrooms attached, some even had what looked like a kitchen even attached to it, the room dad chose had two bed one window and a door that lead out into the garden which was over grown. There was a fire place with wood stacked next to it, so all we had to do was put the wood in and start the a fire when it got cold. I put my stuff down and sat down on the bed that was close to the door leading to the hallway, dad looked around the room and was checking everything out. He turned to me and said, "stay here and rest, I want to go and check out the other room around us, lock the door and don't let anyone in, I will be back soon, ok Jeff." I nodded my head and he left locking the door behind him. I got up and looked around, I was happy we finally found some place to stay. I was hoping we would be here for a while. It has been a long time since we left home and had a place where we had a room to our selves, in a way I was a little scared but it is better than being scared all the time. I lay down on the bed and closed my eyes thinking back to how the day before we were hiding in a farm house with twenty other men. We just barely made it out before the house exploded. We were running threw a field tripping over dead bodies as we ran. This place was heaven sent and we all knew it. I wondered why this place was not destroyed. I heard the doorknob turn. I opened my eyes to look to see if it was my dad. But when it did not open, I got down on the floor and hid or tried to hide. Whoever was at the door left so I relaxed a little but I stayed where I was at, I hoping dad would get back soon. I was beginning to get really scared. Fifteen minutes later my father came through the door, "everything looks good, were going to stay here for a while." he said as he sat down on the bed. I got up from the floor and sat on my bed, I said, "someone came to the door and turned the knob" he shook his head and said, "yeah there are many still looking for rooms to settle down in." he laid back and closed his eyes and said, "I need rest, you should get some sleep to, we have a lot of work yet to do." In moments he was sound asleep. I lay there for a few moments then I fell asleep. I woke up to the sound of crackling and snapping of the wood burning in the fireplace. I looked over at my dad who was still sound asleep on his bed. From what I could see he was in the same place as when he fell asleep. I got up and looked around the room, but no one was there. I checked both doors and they were locked; I shrugged my shoulders and crawled back in bed. I woke to the sound of my father moving around in the room. I looked up at him and he said, "thanks for starting the fire kiddo," I looked at him and told him that I didn't start the fire it was going when I woke up earlier and I told him I thought he had started it. He looked confused then said, "well whoever started it, it is nice it seems to have got cold outside." He put another log on the fire and crawled back into his bed then said, "we will have to get more wood in the morning." then fell back to sleep. I laid there thinking that dad was right it had gotten cold outside and tried to wrap myself up with the blankets on the bed. It didn't take long and soon I too was asleep. Dreaming of what was going to happen next. There was movement in the room and the fire was beginning to die out I slowly opened my eyes; I watched dad put more wood on the fire. I heard what sounded like talking in the hallway; dad must have heard it too and went to the door to see if he could hear any better. He looked at me and said, "I can't make out what they are saying come here and see if you can." so I got up and walked over to the door and what I heard scared me. One of the men out in the hall talking said they were going to go from room to room and take care of the people. My father asked me if I recognized any of the voice and I told him I did not. We moved away from the doors and towards the door leading to the garden. The garden was over grown and it looked like it was a good place to hide if we needed. So we waited, dad decided he would go check the hallway. As he walked toward the door a young boy appeared out of the closet and said, "you don't want to go out there." he turn back and said, "follow me if you want to live." I looked at dad and he looked at me we turned and we grab our packs. For some reason dad straighten out the blankets on the bed and unlocked the door that lead out to the garden then open the door a crack. The boy looked at dad and so did I then dad said. " if they come in they will think we went out thought the garden and won't look for us in here." the boy just nodded his head and told us to follow him. I watch as he went through the closet door he pushed the back wall open which reveals a narrow hallway that went between the walls. I turned back to watch dad close the closet door and then push the wall back into place as we slowly moved down the dark narrow hallway, the boy whispered, "try not to make too much noise or they will hear us, the wall are not that thick and they could hear us." I nodded. Dad whispered to the boy, "Where does this hallway lead too?" he just hush dad and kept walking. Just then we heard what sounded like shots coming from the other side of the wall. From that point on we moved even faster. We came up to a crossroads in the narrow hallway, one went left the other to the right, we took the one that went to the left which turned back again to the right. Behind us we could hear more shots ring out and someone crying then another shot then silent's again. I noticed that the floor was starting to slope down and the slates in the walls began to turn into what looked like stones and rocks mortared together like a stone foundation. Just then the boy stopped and said, "We are in a fallout shelter." Then reach up and pulled on a string hanging from the ceiling. At first when the light came on I was blinded it took a few second for my eyes to adjust. Around us there were silver packs in boxes everywhere you looked, there were lots and lots of can goods along with what looked to huge tanks they looked to be filled with some liquid of some kind. They had labels on them but I could not read what they said. I never got to go to school; the wars had started before I was able to attend and we have been running from the fighting ever since. The fighting started in Europe, Russia invade the small country of Serbia then spread from one country to the next, they move into the middle east then tried to take Israel but they fought back to the last man even using nuclear weapons but no one survived as far as we know, no news has come out of there or anyplace else for that matter. The Chinese then got involved more nuclear weapons were used billions of people died, at first we thought the United States was going to be left alone but armies start to invade from Mexico. More bombs were dropped but not nuclear but they did use some really big bombs, it was found out later that the Russians want the countryside to be not damage by nuclear fallout because there was enough of that in the atmosphere with the weapons they had used already. The president did nothing to stop the invasion, the army and the air force fought and as far as I know they are still fighting. Many Americans took up arms and fought but it seems like it is a losing cause because most of them began to fight against each others. Bands of people joined together and have begun to move around the country to avoid the fighting which became fierce in many areas. We have joined several different groups since we start to run many of them good and many of them bad. The reason we have survived this long is, mostly because there has always seems to be someone who has helped us. Mother was killed during the first part of the war, she stepped on a land mine that killed her and two other women and their children. I just happen to be with my father a few hundred feet ahead of that group. But war has not been the only problem with all the unattended bodies lying around sickness has become more and more. There are a lot of areas they suggest not to travel but when you are running you really don't have a choice where you go because there always seems to be someone chasing you. "I am Tyler." the young boy said. I looked and him and told him that my name was Jeff and this is my father Blaine, but I call him dad. My dad laughed and rubs the top of my head. He then turns to Tyler and thanked him for helping us. "Are you alone here?" dad asked. Tyler lowered his head and said, "yeah, three years now. Mother died two week after the fighting started; father was killed by soldiers when they took over the manor. But the soldiers died mysteriously. There have been others here every now and then but they never seem to stay long. Some I scare away and others just leave on their own." "Wow" I said as I listened to Tyler talk. Something kept me drawn to him. I don't know what it is for sure but I could not keep my eyes off of him. Tyler was my height and I stand five feet five inches but he looks stronger than me like someone who lift and worked out cutting wood and hauling that wood inside. I was small in build and only weight about one hundred and ten pounds where he could easily weighted around thirty pounds more. My dad asked how old he was and Tyler said he was eleven and a half years old which made my dad laugh. That meant Tyler has been on his own since he was eight, I don't know if I would still be alive if it were not for my dad. Just then the light began to dim and then went out. Tyler told us not to make any noise and to stay where we were. I could hear Tyler moving but I could not hear where he had gone. Then we heard shot but they were off in the distant. I told dad I was scared and he told me in return that he was also scared, I moved to his voice and took his hand, and then we just stood there together. I could not tell if it was my eyes adjusting to the dark or if there was a light coming in from somewhere. But then I could see my dad and it looked like the light was coming from everywhere even the floor. I could now see Tyler which surprised me because I thought he had left the room. For some reason he had taken off all his clothes and was standing naked. His back was to us so I only saw his backside and you could see the muscles were strung tight he looked like he could pick me up and throw me across the room with no effort at all. Just then he moved and the room went dark, from a distant we could hear shouting and more gunfire. My head began to hurt and I began to feel weak. I felt my dad's hand go limp and heard him fall to the floor. I woke up next to Tyler he was curled up next to me and had his arm draped over my waist and could feel his hand touching my groin. It was just laying there it was not grasping it or anything like that but I could not help but think about it and it began to grow as we laid there. Thank goodness I had my clothes still on or it would have been totally in his hand in no time. Being thirteen and just in the throes of puberty, Tyler had my body reacting to his touch. I thought about what was happening and decide to try and move so that Tyler wouldn't think I was weird or something but that only made things worst. Sometime between the time that fell asleep and to waking up Tyler had put shorts and a tee-shirt back on. I was thankful for that because I don't know what I would I have done if he were naked besides me. I think I might have woke him up a little because he moved his arm and his hand was no longer on my groin, but now I had a raging hard penis, I have had it happen to me before but this time it hurt really bad and I didn't know what to do to get it to go down. I did not know what masturbation was so I could not masturbate. So I laid there in pain. Tyler turned and his back was to me, I pulled the front of my pants down to reveal my growing youth, the air felt good on it and help some to relieve the pain some. I was thankful Tyler had his back to me because I don't know he would think if he woke up to me exposing my youth. Soon thing began to return to normal but I was scared because I did not know what was happening to me. I thought that I would have to ask my father when we were alone. Soon I was back asleep. "Jeff are you awake?" I heard Tyler say as he shook my shoulder. I opened my eye to see a smiling eleven year old boy looking down at me. I smiled back at him; he was really cute with that smile on his face. You could see the dimples at the corners of his mouth which kind of made me feel funny inside. He said, "So how do you feel this morning you gave me a scare yesterday when you two fell to the floor." "I feel good what happened?" I asked." I don't know it has only happened once before and that was when my father showed me the shelter. He scared me when it happened." Tyler said. "I think it may have something to do with the glowing stuff on the walls but I am not sure." I sat up and looked around for my dad but he was nowhere to be seen. "Where is my dad?" I asked Tyler. He smiled and said "he is in the chamber cleaning up, he should be done. I gave him a few towels and some fresh clothes. Your dad is about the same size as my dad was. But I don't think I have anything that will fit you." He said as he giggled. I then notice that I did not tuck my youth back into my pants. I was at least thankful that it was not hard like had been last night. Tyler looked at it but just kept smiling. But then made a comment "Yours looks like it is bigger than mine." At that I tucked it back in to my pants. I think my face must have turned a deep red. Tyler just laughed and told me to follow him. I got up and adjusted my pants and followed Tyler out of the room that we were in, we walked down a hall that lead back into the main room we were in the night before. When we fell to sleep the room was lit with the overhead light and was not glowing like it was before. We walked through that room out into another passageway and into what looked like a cave and there was a waterfall and a wading pool. My dad was there putting on a shirt, he turned and said "Thanks Tyler that was nice. Jeff why don't you get cleaned up too." "Ok dad as soon as I take a pee." I replied. Tyler showed me where I could go to the bathroom. It was room just off to the right of the cave with the waterfall. Tyler waited for me to finish and we went back to the cave. Dad was gone and Tyler asked if I needed a few towels and I told him I did. He hurried off leaving me to the cave by myself. I undressed and crawled under the fall and the water felt great it was not to cold, it almost felt warm. When I turned around and there stood Tyler buck naked and washing himself off. I looked him up and down and could not get over how good he looked and I began to get a little excited I don't know why because I have taken baths and shower with other guys but there was something about Tyler that made me feel funny inside. When he turned around I could see to that he was excited too. His eyes were closed and I looked at his youth. It was smaller than mine but not by much. I turned around quick so my back was to him. I heard him ask, "Jeff do you want me to wash your back." I told him "sure" I don't know why I told him he could but his hands were soft and gentle. He started at my shoulders moving slowly down my back to my waist and ended right above my butt cheeks. He did not move any further than there. Then Tyler asked if I could do his back too. I started at his shoulder and slowly moved down his back loving every moment my hands were on his body. I could feel the muscles ripple as my hands moved across his young body. I felt something strange happening to me as I touched him and it began to scare me. I stopped and turned around; Tyler asked me why I stopped. I didn't know what to tell him because my mind was so confused. I don't know why but I wanted to do things to him that had never crossed my mind before. I quickly got out of the waterfall and grabbed a towel and wrapped it around my waist, I looked for my clothes but they were gone. I turned around and asked Tyler where my clothes were and he told me that my father had taken them to wash. Tyler came out from the water fall his youth was no longer sticking out from his body and it was much smaller. I wish I could say the same for myself. Even under the towel it was very much noticeable. But Tyler did not seem to notice or care. He took a towel and began to wipe his body down; he asked me if I could wipe his back off. I took the towel and wiped the water off his back he then turned around and with a big smile he moved forward and gave me a kiss on the cheek. I think I turned about three different shades of red. Tyler laughed and said "thank you Jeff." Then walked over to a shelf that I had not seen before and took some cloths off from it and began to get dressed. He grabbed something from the shelf and brought it over to me. It liked like a rag at first, then Tyler shook it to reveal an old pair of boxers short and said to try them on to see if they fit. I took them from his hands and said "I don't know they look a little big." He smiled and told me that they were the only thing that was close to my size. Just then the lights went out again. The cave was very dark and I couldn't see or hear Tyler because of the noise coming from the water fall. Then I felt his hand take mine and he whispered, "someone set off one of the sensors, try not to speak to loud or make too much noise, the cave carries sound really easy." He let go of my hand, I could feel his hands at my waist and the towel fell to the floor. He said, "lift your leg." So I did. I did the same with the other leg; Tyler pulled the shorts up to my thighs where he said I could take it from there. I pulled them up from there. Tyler took my hand and began to lead the two of us out from the cave and into the main chamber. I don't know if it was my eyes adjusting to the dark or if it was not as dark out there. I looked around for my dad, but he was not there. Just then we heard someone talking we could not make out if it was my dad or someone else. It was not so much talking as cursing it sounded as if they had ran into something and was swearing because of the pain it was causing. Tyler led me over to a wall and then pushes on it opening a door of some kind. There was a light coming from the opening and we moved quickly into the room, Tyler pushed the wall closed after we were inside. There were monitors all over the wall and you could see every room in the manor along with the opening into the caves. You could see along the tunnel leading up to a wall and that is where a young man about sixteen or maybe seventeen was sitting with his back against the wall and it looked like he was crying. On one screen you could see my dad and he was in what looked like a laundry room. He looked like he was unaware what was going on. Tyler told me his father had put this room in the cave when they first move into the manor. He said he was just a little boy when his father showed him this room and after his father was killed he moved into the cave. Tyler said he used this room to see what was happening in the manor. We could see men still moving around the manor, they had guns in their hands and were going room to room still looking for people. I did not recognize any of the men nor did I recognize the young man in the cave either. We watched the young man to see what he would but he just sat there. One of the cameras was looking out over the cave entrance and the rock outcropping where it was hidden there were men looking around but they did not see the entrance that led to the cave. They gave up and moved toward the tree line and then were gone. I asked Tyler if this was the place he saw me and my dad. "Yeah, well no, I watched the two of you when you came in the manor. I followed you on the camera's to see what room you went into." He said. "Why?" I asked. He said he didn't know why. He told me that he found me interesting, most people who come here are either soldiers or people looking for some place to stay but most either die or are killed by the rebels. "Why do the rebels kill people who come here?" I asked. "I don't know why." Tyler said as he put the screen to full screen to get a closer look at the young man who sat on the floor crying. He turns the audio up so we could hear him. We could still hear him sobbing and talking to himself, "what am I going to do now?" on the other screens you could see rebels removing body's from the rooms and moving them out behind the manor. There they would throw them into a pit and burn the bodies. Back in the manor men could be seen cleaning the rooms and straighten beds and putting things back into place. I asked Tyler why they were cleaning things up. He told me they did that all the time; he said he could not figure that out himself. He thought some of them could have been staff that worked here at one time and felt it was their duty to keep the manor clean. They never stayed inside the manor and after the rebels left, Tyler said he had the run of the manor. Only once had he been seen by one of the rebels but they did nothing. Just then I caught some movement out of the corner of my eye. It was my dad moving into the main chamber. He had my clothes in his hands. I tapped Tyler on his shoulder he smiled and said lets go meet him before he calls out for us and alerts the young man that we are in here. So we headed out to the main chamber. The light were at half strength dad saw us come out from behind the wall; his face had the look of someone who had a question on his mind. Both Tyler and I raised our finger to our lips, to tell him to be quite. He understood and shook his head. Tyler turned around and dad and I followed him back into the security room. After closing the wall behind us, Tyler told dad what was happening. While put my now clean clothes back on. I left on the boxers that Tyler gave me earlier because they were in better shape than my old ones. It looked like the young man had fallen asleep. He must have been tired from running and from all the tears he had shed. Tyler said, "we can't leave him there because if someone were to find him, they might find the false wall that covers the entrance that lead to the main chamber." My dad agreed with him and asked Tyler what we should do. "Well the only thing we can do is bring him in put him in one of the secure rooms." My dad agreed. I asked Tyler how we are going to do that without waking him up. Tyler pushed a button, a gas began to fill the tunnel the young man coughed then slumped down even more. After about ten minutes we moved out into the tunnel and move the young man to a room that was padded and very sound proof. There was a small bed with a small stand a sink and a stool if he had to go to the bathroom. Dad asked Tyler and me to leave the room for a few minutes. When he came out he had clothes in his hands. He looked at us then said, "his clothes are dirty so I am going to wash them." Then asked Tyler, "do you know how long it will take the gas to wear off?" Tyler told my dad hen would sleep all night. "Good that gives me time to wash his clothes and get him dressed before he wakes up." Then dad asked Tyler what we should do with him? "Well he can stay in there for now." Tyler replied. My dad agreed then turned and left back to the laundry room to wash the young man's clothes. Tyler took my hand and we walked back to the security room. There we watched what was happening in the manor, men were still moving from room to room collecting bodies moving them out of the manor to the pit, while other men would go into the rooms collecting what was there then cleaning and putting the room back to the way it was. Tyler turned another screen on and you could see the young man lying on the bed. He must have been dreaming because he was tossing and turning in the bed. Then it dawned on me that I was hungry, so I asked Tyler if he had any food. He smiled got up and told me to follow him. He lead the way to another room, in there was a refrigerator he opened the door and took out two bottles handing one to me and set the other one down on a counter and took four silver package out from one of the cupboards then turned and asked me what I wanted to eat, he said he had beef soup, chili, spaghetti with meatballs and beef stroganoff. I took the spaghetti and looked at the package and asked Tyler, "how do I eat this it is hard as a rock." He laughed and told me, "open the package put it in a pan and add water then put it on the stove when it heats up then you can eat it." He grabbed the stroganoff took a small pan then added a cup of water then put it on the stove then turned on the heat and in minutes you could smell the stroganoff cooking. I did the same. We ate from the pans we cooked the food in; I was surprised at how good the spaghetti was. When we finish we cleaned up and headed back to the security room where we found my dad. He asked where we had been so we told him we went to get something to eat. Tyler showed him where the kitchen was so dad could have something to eat. When Tyler came back we watched the rebels as they began to burn the bodies, there were still some in the manor finishing the clean up, soon they too were outside throwing pack and clothes they could not use into the fire. Tyler turned to me and said, "tomorrow we can go up into the manor." I asked him why and he told me. "We can't stay down here, the caves echo too much and if they find the caves they will take our food or take over it." Tyler said. I ask won't they come back. "If they do we can just hide in the manor, there are lots of hiding place." "What about food?" I asked. Tyler laughed and said that there was a storage cellar that is hidden in the manor that has even a bigger supply of food than what they have down here. Plus there is real meat up in the manor. Just then dad walked in. He sat down next to me and said. "We should be moving on kiddo, Tyler if want to come along you can and we will take the young man with us." "Ah dad." I said. "We have to get to your grandfathers. Jeff you know he is worried about us." Dad said. "Sir, I can't leave here this is my home and you are welcome to stay as long as you like. There is enough food for years." Tyler said with a glint of tears in his eyes. "When the young man wakes up I am going to go down and talk to him and then we are going to leave. Tyler I am sorry but it is too dangerous for us to stay here and if we did we would be putting you in danger too and we don't want to do that. Do we son." Dad said and I had to agree. I know it would be more dangerous if we were to stay and I did not want to put Tyler in that kind of peril. The three of us sat watching the now empty house and there were only a few rebels left out by the pit where they threw the bodies of the dead travelers that had made the mistake of coming into Turnhurst manor and were not as luck as dad and me to have an angel guarding over them. Tyler was sad you could tell by the look on his face. I wanted to put my arm around his shoulder and hold him close to me but I thought that would make things only worst. I was feeling sad to that we had to leave in the morning. I liked it here and I like Tyler he was cute and even though he is younger than me I feel like he is my protector. Even though I hate to admit it, I am also attracted to him there is something about him that make me just want to be by his side. But enough of that it was beginning to get late, it was dark outside and the fire pit was now just a glow. The rebels were gone and the house was empty so Tyler said it would be ok for us to move up into the manor. So we followed him up a passage way that lead out into one of the bedrooms. Tyler told us to keep in mind what room we came out of so if we need to we could get back to the safe room if an emergency were to arise. He did not think the rebels would be back but if they did we knew where to go. Tyler showed us to our room, he then disappeared. We put our packs down, and then dad went and locked the door. I didn't understand why he did that so I asked him. He said it was just in case the rebels come back. I lie down on the bed and fell asleep almost instantly. Sometime during the night I woke to some movement in the room but when I looked around no one was there but dad, he was sound asleep. When I woke up dad was gone. I walked out into the hallway and looked around. I walked into what looked like a kitchen it was huge. There I saw Tyler sitting down at a table eating what looked like goop, when he saw me he stood up and offered to make me something to eat. I said ok, and then asked him if he knew where my dad was. He told me he was down in the cave talking to the young man we had locked up the night before. He said that we were taking him with us when we were left today. Tyler looked sad, so I asked him once more if he was sure he did not want to go with us. He said that the manor was his home and he could not leave it. The food Tyler made was very good. I guess dad had eaten; he also took food down to the young man too. Tyler and I ate in silent's, I knew he did not want us to leave even though we were only had been there for two days. Tyler got up and said he would be right back. So I sat in the big kitchen and waited. Ten minutes later dad came walking into the room with the young man still blindfolded. Dad then took the blind fold off and the young man and he looked around the room. Dad introduced him to me, his name was Ben Masterman. I said hello, I looked him up and down as he did the same to me. Ben just stood there as dad began to tell me about him. Ben had been separated from the group of people he was traveling with and thought that they had made it to the manor. But when he got here rebels were shooting and killing people so he hid in the woods till the shooting had stopped. He found the cave by accident and that is when we found him. Dad said there was more to his story and he would fill us in while we were on the road. Tyler came back into the room and he was carrying two packs. My dad asked him what was in the pack and Tyler told in it was food. Dad smiled and thanked Tyler. He said he had plenty. Dad introduced Ben to Tyler and they talk for a bit. That day went fast, Tyler didn't say much I could see he did not want me to leave but he knew my father would never let me stay. It was now dark out. We had grabbed or packs out of the room along with the food that Tyler had given us. Tyler walked with us to the tree line where we said our goodbyes. I could see the tears in his eyes. Tyler gave me a hug; he whispered in my ear "you are welcomed here anytime" then gave me a peck on the cheek. I didn't want to let him go but I knew I had to so I did anyway and we start to walk away. I looked back once. Tyler was still standing there but the second time I looked back he was gone. I had tears in my eyes I was going to miss Tyler even though I only knew him for a few days. But something inside me told me I would see him again soon.
