Turnhurst Manor Chapter 12 After we finished breakfast Dan And Tucker when outside and finished stocking the goods the had found out there while on their little adventure. While Ben began to tell the rest of us about their journey. Ben told the first hundred miles or so the stop at a few town but noticed right away that most if not all of the stores and homes had been stripped of everything inside. Every once in a while the would run into people but stayed there distance. The country side was deserted. Most of the farms were empty or abandoned. There were livestock roaming around but they had no way of capturing any of the animals, thus there was no way for them to transport them. So they made references on the maps they had found and thought we could go back later and retrieve those animals. He told us they had decided to travel around the bigger towns and cities. Most of which were in ruin. If anyone was living in the it would have been a fight for what little supplies they would have got from them. In the distance they saw the beginning of the urban areas around Boston. Ben stopped his story and looked at us all and said. "I wonder what happened to all those people?" Not waiting for us to answer he continued on. The one thing the boys could not figure out was there were no cars or trucks on the roads. It was like they were all gone. Sure there were vehicles about but there were no vehicles on the roads. Once past Boston they decided to circle back to the farm. They stopped at a few farm place picked through a few of them and that was where they found the spices, the syrup and a few other things they had brought back. While they were making their way back to the farm. They notice a dog come running out to chase them. Tucker was the first to noticed it and told Ben to stop. He figure the dog would make a good companion for Boe. So they stopped and tried to coax the dog to them. That was when they heard a man calling out for the dog. The man must not had heard the truck because he walked down the drive and he was not armed. When he saw us standing by the trucks he stopped and stared. Later he told us he was just as surprised to see us as we had been to see him. After calling the dog over. He began to speak to the group. "Are you young men here to trade or steal and kill?" I told him we were only passing by when we saw the dog and thought it was on it's own and decided to stop and bring it back to our farm. His face brightened and asked if we were farmers. I told him we were but we had only just begun and did not know much but we were learning. I did not want to give to much information out. He then invited us to join him on his farm. So we returned to our trucks and drove up his drive. We were surprised on how big his farm place appeared. The main house looked like it had never been damaged. The barn was large and held cattle, pigs, chickens, turkeys and about a dozen sheep . A woman came out of the house and join the farmer. It been the first time any of us had actually seen a real live woman in the last three to four years. She introduced herself. "I am Anne and you have met my husband Tom." "More than likely he has not introduce himself she said as she laughed. It is nice to meet the two of you. I said as I introduce the group to her and her husband. We talked for a while and learned it was a good thing we did not try to enter Boston. Tom told us that one day while he was out looking for supplies for the farm. He saw a troop of soldiers enter the city. He said he watched for a while and only a few soldiers made it out of the city. But none of them survived. He said he went to investigate the bodies but when he reached them there was nothing left from what he had seen. He said he did not get to close because he was afraid it would have effected him and he could maybe transfer it to his wife. Tom and his wife invited us to stay a few days. But we told them we had to get back. But we stayed the night. We had breakfast the next morning with them. We had eggs, fresh bacon, ham, pancakes and fresh maple syrup. Even though we had found maple syrup they gave us more and we trade ammunition in return. So I guess we have made a trading partner on this trip. We decide to take a different route back because tom said he had been getting supplies from on the route we planned on taking and decided to leave those towns to him. Once on our new route we found several towns the had been totally abandoned with houses and stores full of supplies. We even found a couple of farm implement stores with new tractors and equipment. We also found a warehouse in a back wood area. The road was blocked but we were able to move the vehicles out of the way. Once we cleared the road we found a large warehouse. The building was lock tight. There were also several bodies lying on the ground. We searched them for keys, Bobby was the one to find them. He also notice that the bodies on the ground all had been shot. So it didn't look like this was a chemical attack. when we open one of the doors we found it was a warehouse full of food. We knew we would not be able to bring back any of the stuff with us so we decided to leave everything where it was and to return later to retrieve what we could. Jon and Brandon found several semi trucks parked out back with several trailers, but the only problem is that none of us know how to drive them. Once we had everything checked out. We decided to lock the building up and come back when we need supplies and get it later. Upon leaving we put every thing back where we found it and begin our travels back home. Once again we were on the road we stopped at other towns and found the same as before homes, villages and small towns deserted and left as they were. Upon leaving one of the small towns Bobby spotted a what looked like a military post off in the distance. We cautiously approached it and appeared to be abandoned like every place we have seen so far. We avoided the main road going to the compound. Just incase there was soldiers still around. Outside the compound was a fenced off area. Which appeared to have electrified fence. But the power seemed to be off. We carefully made our way to the bunker, it was locked but Tucker was able to pick the lock. Inside we found guns, ammo, mines, rocket launchers, and weapons we have no idea what they do. We only took what we know how to use. While we were searching the bunker Brandon and Jon took a look around the outside of the compound. There they found the source of power that electrified the fence. So once we loaded what we were going to take with us, Brandon turned the power on to the fence. We also found the fuel dump, where we filled our fuel tanks and our reserve tanks. Then we decided to return home. Only stopping to fuel up our vehicles and our stomachs. We never saw another soul other than Tom and his wife. This made us wonder where all the people had gone. We are survivors and we plan to survive as long as we can. When Ben finished his story he pulled out his maps and showed us the route they had taken and the places that were the most interesting. If we decided to return to those places we would need more storage. It was decided that farming was going to be our main goal. So that we can help to survive and to trade when the time came.
