Once we got up we spent the rest of the day working in the big garden getting ready for spring planting. Chris, Brandon and Craig worked on getting the bigger farm equipment ready for planting crops. I remember the guys saying that there were a few farm implement dealerships they had found with new equipment. So we called a meeting it was decided that the guns and ammo could wait for now. Because we really didn't have nowhere to put them. The farm equipment was needed more than guns were. We knew we needed to grow corn, wheat and alfalfa. for the cattle, sheep and pigs along with the other animals. We really were going to be farmers instead of that small ragtag group of survivors that first started out. We were learning as we went along. It was decided that survivors the following day we would go out to the implement dealers and see what we could use. That night Kyle and I got to use our own bed. Ben and Jon decided they could fit two more people into their little house. The houses we built were basically just two bedrooms and a living area. All the cooking was done in the main house. Which would soon change once we started construction of the bunk house and mess hall. It would be needed sooner then we thought. It was decided once again that I would not be able to travel with the others. I was told I was to important to the group. So it was Kyle, Anton, Anthony, Alex and Aaron who stayed at the farm while the other 9 went to retrieve what they could. Once they left I got the idea of going into the small town and search for the deeds to the farm and other places around us. I told Kyle what I was going to do he suggested that I take Anthony with since he had experience with weapons. So we hopped into one of the new pickups Chris and Brandon had gotten going. We first headed to the small town that we had cleaned out. First we went and checked out the city office but only found information on the homes within the town. Next we checked out the county office there we found maps and a register of all the local farms and the name of the farmers who owned the land and what had been done on the land. We took the Maps and register. We also found out where the titles and deeds could be found. First we would have to travel to Bristol county to the city of Taunton, but it was further east then where we wanted to go. That's when we found out that we needed to go to Sudbury. Lucky for us it was only 30 miles from where we were. We first entered the town we were really scared. It was bigger then we thought and there were a lot of buildings collapse into themselves. Still we did not see a soul. When we reached the County assessors office, the office appeared to be intact but the doors were locked. We all walked around the building together because we were in a town we knew nothing about. Alex noticed a small window that appeared to be cracked open. We gave him a gun and boosted him up till he reached the window. Once he was in he opened the door. It was dark, cold and dusty, we opened a couple doors so we could shed a little light. We work through cabinets searching for the documents. Finally we found what we were looking for, we were just finishing with loading the last boxes when the first shot rang out. The four of us jumped into the pickup and started heading out of town when a thought occurred to me. There had only been one shooter and the shots didn't even come close to us. It seemed more like warning shots. I decided to pull over and talk to the other three. "Guys did it seem like those were warning shots more then someone trying to kill us?" They all agreed. We knew who ever had shot at us was just protecting their own interest. We had only come for the documents but now I was more interested in what else this town had to offer that was worth protecting. We got out of the truck and slowly made our way back to where we had been shot at. That is when we saw them. Five young boys from what we could see. They were standing outside the assessors office two of them went inside while the other three stood outside watching the area. From what I could tell they only had one gun. It appeared to be a rifle almost to big for the young boy to be carrying. When the other two boys who had gone into the building stepped outside. I decided to make our move. With Alex and Aaron next to me we moved fast. I told the two to stay next to me. Anthony was going to stay back to make sure we were not surprised. We had rushed the boys so fast they had no clue as to know what was happening. No one ran. They just froze like deer in the headlights. The boy with the rifle tried to raise his gun but I told him to stop and to put it on the ground. He did as I asked. I asked Aaron to go retrieve the rifle. To bring it to me and then to go search the boys. Once that was done I told the boys to sit on the ground. I looked them over trying to figure out their ages. I then asked the one who was holding the rifle who they are? I told them our names. The boy stood up and began to introduced everyone in the small group. The boy with the rifle introduce himself said his name was Bruce. Next to him was Turin, David, Jasper, and Peter. I asked him if there were more of them and he told us there were. How many I asked? There are six more boys. He informed me. So there were eleven in total. I asked them where they were and was told they were still back at the orphanage. I asked how long they had been here? "Since the beginning." Bruce said. I asked how they survived? Bruce told me that they had been abandon by the staff when the fighting started. All but one staff member had stayed behind to watch over the boys. There had originally been twenty boys within the orphanage but the 9 older boys had decided to strike out on there own. The older staff member who had stayed behind had been keeping the boys fed and warm until last year. When a group of men had come into town he told the men he was the only one here and he was taken away. But before he was taken he had taught the boys how to survive. They had been cleaning out the houses and stores for food. Bruce said. I asked how they had survive the winter? Bruce told me they had a old coal burning furnace and used that to warm the house. I asked if they had any other weapons. Then David spoke up. "We only have the one gun and it only has two more shot before it became useless." It was then that Jasper spoke and asked what we were going to do with them. I told him not to worry we were not here to hurt them. They looked relieved. I told Alex and Aaron to put their guns away and called Anthony out from where he was hiding. I asked Bruce if I could see where they were staying. So he showed us the orphanage. It was a big building. Inside was a mess. The furniture was tossed all about and it was dusty and dirty. When I asked Bruce why it was so messy he told us that Oliver. The only remaining member of the staff who had been taking care of the boys told them to leave it that way. So when someone looked inside they would assume the building had been abandon and wouldn't really take the time to search an abandoned building. I thought that was smart. I asked where the other boys were and he showed us to where they were hiding. When they came out I could see that they had been well fed and were some what clean. Jasper introduced us to them and they seem to greet us with some hesitation. I put them at ease when I told them we were just passing through town and just wanted to see if they were ok. They seem to relax. The one thing I did notice is that they were all very young. Bruce was the oldest at fourteen. We could see that. The youngest was 6 years old and his name was Christopher. He was cute just like our Chris back at the farm. It was getting later into the afternoon and Alex had made the comment that he was hungry. I told him to go back to the truck and bring the lunch from the truck. It was then suggested by Anthony he would go and drive the truck back here. I thought that it was a good idea but to be careful incase someone else had seen us moving around. about thirty minutes later he was back with the truck. Mean while I got to know the boys much better. While Bruce , Jasper and Turin fix food for the boys. Most of the food they had been cooking was canned food. Bruce said that they had been catching rabbits and rats as their main source of meat because they had no way of storing deer meat or any of the other stray animals who happened to be around the town. So when Anthony got back we gave them our sandwiches we brought with along with the apples and fresh carrots. This seem to make them all happy. While we were eating Bruce asked where we had come from and I told them we were about an hour away from here and that we were all survivors two. I told him how our group came together. I told him about the compound and what some of us went through. I told him that I had Just met Alex and Aaron just two days ago and were reunited with their brother. I also told them what we were doing here. They all seemed to be very interested. It seemed That Christopher took a real liking to me. When I was telling my story he had come over and sat next to me and was leaning against me as I told them about us. Bruce wanted to know what we would do next? Truth was I didn't know what to do. I know I could not abandon these boys. But I also knew we could not take them back with us right now. Food was not going to be a problem. We had plenty of that. Housing was the problem. Where could we put Eleven young boys. I knew we could take a few of them with us now. Dan and Tucker could take two of the boys and Bobby and Billy could take another two. It just meant everyone could double up. But where would we put the other seven. I thought about the hay mount But Sheba was up there with another litter of cubs and the farm was just as much hers as it was our farm. She never caused problems. Hell she was becoming part of the family. I had never heard of a mountain lion ever wanting to be around humans let alone dogs. But her and Boe got along fine. I had even seen the two roughhousing around one day and her cubs seem to love him. So the barn was out. I had even thought about the house down the road but it was not livable anymore the roof had collapsed over the winter. Bruce notice what I was thinking and suggested that they could stay at the Orphanage. We have food and it has been safe so far. We can survive a little longer if need be. I guess he was right so I told him we could take the youngest four with us. I asked if he knew where there were any more weapons and he said he did. He said there was a armory but the doors were locked and they couldn't get inside. I asked him to take me to where it was and he was right it was locked tight. There were no lower windows and even if we were to be able to reach the window above it would be a long fall to the floor inside. On the backside of the building there were two loading docks. That is when one of the older boys notice that one of the door would open a little. But no one in the group was small enough in the group to crawl under. We figured the only one small enough was Christopher. Bruce told Brian his younger brother to go back to the orphanage and get him. When they came back we told Christopher what to do. They produced some candles and matches while the rest of us held the door open so Christopher could go through. It took him about ten minutes for him to make it through the building and he manage to open the front door. Once we were inside we found the armories weapons room it had been cleaned out but for a few older hand guns, grenades, smoke bombs and shotguns. There was enough ammo to last at least one good fight. Again Anthony went back to get the pickup and we loaded what we could. Jasper also manage to find a large stock pile of freeze dried food just like the kind that Tyler had stock piled in the cave. I explain how to make the food but would later find out it was not as good as the stuff Tyler had. David also found a set of keys so we tried them until we found the one for the front door. Aaron also found what appeared to be a fall out shelter It was big and dark. There were glow sticks up in the armory so we got them and began to search the fall out shelter. The door was meant to be locked from the inside. So I told Bruce to use this incase of emergency. He said he would. There was enough room in the place for at least a few hundred people with more rations in a storage room. There was also a generator with enough fuel for at least a few weeks. We tried to start it but could not get it running. I figured I would bring back Chris or Brandon on my trip back to see the boys. I wanted to see if they could get it running. We also found more weapon. basically more hand guns and ammo. Once we had finished looking around we headed back to the orphanage. Bruce made sure to lock the door behind us. Back at the orphanage we unloaded the truck and explain how to use the weapons we had found. I told the boys if they were going to use them to practice with they need to go outside of town so not to draw attention to themselves. It was beginning to get late and we needed to get back to the farm. Bruce was glad we were taking the youngest four with us. He figured they would be safer with us. Once everyone was loaded into the pickup we started out for home.
