Chapter 8 We had reclaimed Dan and Tucker's house only after a small gun fight. The men that had occupied the house were killed and buried in the old cemetery along with the men who had attacked the farm. We decided that we would build a new house on the farm and that way Dan and Tucker would be closer and would be within the security systems protection. Jon had moved into the now crowded house with us. Ben and him became fast friend and did everything together. They would go out and search farms and towns together. This gave me an opportunity to heal. Billy and Bobby turned out to be worth more than anyone could ever guess. They had a knack for being able to heal people. So while Ben and Jon were out they would give them a list of thing they would need if Ben or Jon came across a hospital or pharmacy. Kyle was my constant companion and I loved it. When I was finally able to get back to my feet Kyle was right there to catch me if I fell. Tyler, Brandon and Chris finally got the security system fully functional. So if someone were to come on or near the farm it would sound an alarm. The cameras were hidden so well that even Ben or I were unable to spot them. We found out anything bigger than a dog would sound the alarm. There were several times the cougar set off the alarm. We found her den where she was raising her litter of cubs. For some reason she left the sheep and cattle alone. We had to put the cows in the shed at night because they would set off the alarm when left in the fields. Ben would not allow me to stand guard he said I was too valuable to the group as a whole to be allowed to do such a job. So Dan and Tucker took over. Work has begun on Dan and Tucker's new home. Kyle, Billy, and Bobby have been helping them set the rafters and are now working on the outside of the walls. Even though we knew Dan said he had done construction before we did not really know how good he was. Tucker no longer dressed as a woman which made everyone feel better. I am sorry but a guy dressed in women's clothing is just too weird. Kyle has become my full time body guard. He is with me everywhere I go. Thing have been going good I have been healing well and I am getting around better every day. Tyler and Chris are the farmers in the group they have taken to planting crops like: corn, wheat, soybeans, and have planted a huge garden. We had sweet corn and tomatoes for supper last night. Billy and Bobby butchered one of the lambs and prepared that over a pit. I was surprised on how good the lamb tasted. One day while Ben and Jon were out they reported that a truck had passed them on the road. At first the truck stopped and turned around but when they saw Ben and Jon raise their guns they turned and sped off. We waited for an attack on the farm but none came. It looked like the fighting was beginning to stop. At least that is what we hoped. All of us were sick of the fighting and the killing. I know I am. Time is flying by like crazy it seemed like yesterday dad and I walked through the doors of Turnhurst manor and now I am here with complete strangers. I think of my dad from time to time. I miss him it would be nice to have someone older around to help settle the problems that do come up. Like the other day I don't know what happened but Ben must have said something to Chris and the next thing we knew Chris had tackled Ben and was throwing rights and lefts. I think Ben was surprised because he laid there and let Chris punch him then finally he sat up and push Chris off. It was a bit funny at first but after Ben punched Chris thing got bad. We had to pull Ben off from Chris. When asked neither would say what had caused the fight. So that night Chris slept in bed with me. Ok we didn't sleep but I was tired the next morning. Tyler and I are no longer a couple not that we really were. He will always be my first love don't get me wrong. But my true love is Kyle and I am his we spend most of our time together. I am with him when he stands guard even though everyone tells me I am too important to do guard duty. We always have something to talk about. Lately most of my time is spent on studies. Ben and Jon came across an old college and have brought back as many books that they could find. Billy and Bobby have been reading the medical books and book on veterinarians. I think they have talked Dan into building a lab for them once the house gets finished. I have been studying science and governmental structures. Kyle, Chris and Tyler have been reading and studying farming and Ben and Jon have been studying construction while they work with Dan. In the mean time they have start the foundation of two more houses. The farm house is crowded and it will be nice that the others will have a place of their own. Ben and Jon have said they need their own space so that is one of the houses and Billy and Bobby want a place that they can call their own. Tyler and Chris want to stay with Kyle and me. When fall finally arrived everyone went out and worked in the fields taking in the crops. Kyle, Tyler and Chris are having a ball. Chris got one of the big grain trucks going and I have been hauling wheat, corn and soybean back to the farm. Dan and Tucker have all but finished their house and have the other two houses almost ready with the help of Ben, Jon, Bobby and Billy. They are bringing in the potatoes today along with the other vegetables. It looks like we will have more than enough to make it through the winter. There is electricity in all the houses. Chris and Brandon have built wood burning furnaces in that uses steam registers in each of the houses. Brandon has proven to be one of the best things to have happened to us. Not only is he smart like Chris but he is really good with his hands. I know he has a thing for Kyle and I know they hook up once in a while but so do I with the others. Brandon has been studying electronics and has built a small dam on the river and it has been producing electricity for the houses. We know once the river freezes in the winter we will lose most of the power it produces but he has figured out how to build solar power cells and is now installing them on the four houses. He hopes he will be able to figure out a way on how to store any extra energy in case we need it later. We know the snow will be flying soon and we are getting everything prepared for that. Last week while doing chores Bobby said he saw the cougar in the barn, but none of the animal had been hurt or killed. Boe won't go into the barn so we decided to keep an eye out for her. Bobby gave her a name and has been calling her Sheba. Then one night while Kyle and I were out doing our rounds we watched Sheba drags a small deer into the barn. We followed her to see where she went. It looks like she has made a nest in the hey mount of the barn. We didn't know if she had her kittens up there and we were not about to climb into the hay mount to find out. The cattle and sheep didn't seem to mind her presents so we decided to leave her alone as long as she left the animals alone. Time seem to be passing quickly and relationship became stronger. Ben and Jon moved into the new house that they had help build and Bobby and Billy had moved into their new home. Which left Kyle, Chris, Tyler, Brandon and me in the main house. Each house had a set of monitors that allowed everyone to know what was going on if something were to happen. Everyone still took turns standing watch even though we had not seen anyone in a while.
