Watching Noah Grow by Erastes

Chapter 31 – A New Routine.

When I went to pick up the boys on Saturday, Noah rode in with me, and the others were surprised that he hadn't walked over to the park and joined them to wait for me, as he usually did.  "Hey, how come you're already in the car?" Sam challenged.

"Brian came by and offered to give me a ride," Noah answered, stretching the truth a bit.

Although Sam looked a bit confused, he accepted Noah's response and didn't pursue it further, and neither did the other boys.  They merely carried on as they normally would as I drove to the house, and everything seemed fine.

I'd only prepared a simple adventure for today, and we spent nearly an hour doing it, and then I led the boys to my bedroom to change.  As soon as we got there, I took all of our swimsuits out of the dresser and handed them out.  The boys quickly undressed and put them on before they went to get a towel out of the linen closet.  Noah brought one back for me as well, since I was busy retrieving a new bottle of sunscreen I planned to take with us.

After the boys put on flip-flops or sandals that they kept at my place, we went outside and I drove them to the state park.  They were all enthusiastic about doing this again, but Glen was the most excited because he'd never been to the state park with us before.  After I applied the sunscreen to everyone's body, we walked around and showed Glen the area while the sunscreen absorbed into our skin.

Once we got back to the lake, I told the other three boys they could have fun on their own while I worked with Glen, and this prompted them to ask if they could go over to the deeper area.  I responded that I didn't want them to go there without me, and asked them to stay in the shallow section with us until Glen had gained a little more confidence.  They argued with me briefly, so I told them they could either stay in this area with us or wait on the beach until we were done, so they finally gave in.  Once that had been settled, I worked with Glen while the others frolicked in the water.

I basically did the same things with him that we'd done when we were at the high school pool so he could get used to the differences here.  Instead of a solid cement foundation beneath our feet as we waded into the water, there was only the soft, squishy sand and mud.  The water also didn't have chlorine in it as the pool did, although that fact didn't seem to register with him.

I worked with Glen for almost an hour, and then I took the boys over to let them swim in the deeper area for a while.  I kept Glen close to me, while also keeping an eye on the other boys to make sure they didn't have any problems.  After letting them play in the deep end for another hour, we dried off and walked around for a little longer before calling it a day.  The boys showed Glen how to place his towel over the car seat to protect it, and then we returned to the house.

As I was pulling into the driveway, Gus looked at Noah and spoke.  "Hey, isn't that your mom's car over there?"

He was indicating the driveway on the other side of the house, and Noah looked at me because he wasn't sure how he should respond.  I took him off the hook and answered for him.  "Yes, that's Noah's mom's car."

"What's she doin' here?  Did she come to get Noah?" Glen followed.

"No, they moved into the apartment and are living there now."

"Oh, man, you're so lucky," Sam stated while looking at Noah.  "I was hopin' we could move in there, but Mom said it wasn't possible cuz she doesn't have a car and there'd be no way to get around."

"Yeah, my mom told us that too," Gus confirmed, while indicating he was speaking for Glen as well.

"I was lucky that my mom already had a car and Brian offered to let us live here."

"Now I know why you rode in with him this morning," Sam added with a sly grin.

"Yeah, Brian didn't want me to tell you about it until we were here, but you figured it out before he said anything."

"Yes, I was going to inform you about it before I took you out to eat, but you beat me to it," I confirmed.

Seeing they had now been apprised of the situation, we headed to my bedroom to change, and then I took the boys out for a late lunch before I drove the other three home.  "Are you still goin' to be at the park during the week?" Sam asked Noah before getting out of the car.

"Yes, Brian will drop me off on his way to work, and then he'll walk over to the park so we can have lunch together later.  Mom will pick me up and take me home after she gets out of work, so nothing's going to change."

"Ok, we'll see you on Monday then," Sam confirmed with the other two nodding in agreement, and then they all said goodbye.

Once they'd exited the car and entered the building, I took off and Noah waited until we'd gone about a block before he spoke.  "I'm glad they're not mad that I'm living here."

"I think they might be a little jealous, but I agree they're not mad."

"At least now they know, so we don't have to hide it from them any more."

"Yes, that's true.  And if they happen to notice that some of your clothes are on my side, we'll just tell them that you're keeping a few things there, just like they're keeping their swimsuits at my place, because it's easier that way."

"Yeah, they should be ok with that."

Once we got back to the house, Noah went over to say 'hi' to his mom, and she returned with him so she could tell me that she'd seen her schedule for the upcoming week.  "I have next Friday off, so if it's possible you can set up the interview for then."

"Ok, I'll see what HR can arrange.  Just fill out the application I gave you and I'll take it with me when I go to work on Monday."

Noah spent the rest of the afternoon with me, and when we came back from our run we cleaned up and we went over to have dinner with Cheryl.  After we finished eating, Cheryl agreed to watch a movie with us, so except for the fact that we each had our own side of the house, it seemed as if we were an actual family.  As I glanced at Noah from time to time, it appeared that he liked the way this was working out as well.

When the movie ended, Cheryl returned to her side, and since it was the weekend, Noah stayed so he could sleep with me.  After I sucked him off and he did the same to me, we cuddled together and fell asleep.

Shortly after waking up the next morning, we went over to have breakfast with Cheryl, and then I took Noah to the high school so he could practice his soccer skills.  We worked on the same things as when I took him there on Memorial Day, and this included having him practice hitting the corners of the goal when he took shots at the wall.

When we finished, we returned to the house and had lunch with his mom, and then I did some of the other things that I normally took care of on the weekend while he was playing with the RC car.  After an hour, he came inside and watched cartoons while I finished up, and then we went out for our run.  After an exhausting workout, we showered and went over to have dinner with Cheryl, and then she joined us to watch a couple of shows on TV afterward.

Noah spent Sunday night with me as well, and of course I had to suck him off before we went to sleep.  He returned the favor and did the same thing to me, and I have to admit that he was getting much better at doing this.  As soon as we'd both enjoyed our release, we cuddled together and fell asleep.

When I left for work on Monday morning, I took both Noah and the application that Cheryl had filled out.  About mid-morning, I walked down to HR and spoke with the supervisor about her.  "She's a single mother who lost her husband in a car crash a few years ago.  She's a hard worker, and she and her son are living in the apartment on the other side of my house.  I was hoping you'd be able to find a job for her, and she's available for an interview on Friday, if that's convenient for you."

"Let me check my schedule quickly," she replied, and then she did something on the computer before turning back to me.  "Do you think she'd be able to come in at 1:00?"

"I'm sure that will be fine, but I'll talk to her about it tonight and let you know tomorrow if there's a problem."

Since that had been taken care of, I returned to my department and focused on my job until it was time to go meet Noah for lunch.  I didn't say anything to him about what I'd done for his mom and thought I'd let Cheryl mention it to him if she wanted.  We merely ate lunch and he filled me in about what he and the other kids had been up to that morning.  When I noticed my lunch hour was coming to an end, I told him I'd see him at home later and returned to work.

As soon as I got to the house that evening, I went over to talk to Cheryl.  I told her what the HR supervisor had said, and she told me 1:00 on Friday would be fine.  I wished her good luck, and then Noah pulled me away so I could change my clothes.  He seemed to be in a hurry to go out on our run.

As soon as we started down the street, he turned to me and spoke.  "What was you talking about with my mom?"

"You'll have to ask her."

He didn't seem happy with my answer and wasn't very talkative as we jogged around the neighborhood.  When we got back, we took our shower and put on clean clothes before heading next door to eat.

During dinner, Noah asked his mom a bunch of questions about what he'd heard us talking about earlier.  "Mom, are you going to work with Brian now?"

"Brian has arranged for me to have an interview, and if I get the job I'll be working at the factory.  It will be the same company that Brian works for, but we won't exactly be working together."

"So will you ride in together?"

"No, I'll be starting earlier and getting done before he does, so that won't be possible."

"So does this mean you won't be working at 7-Eleven any more?"

"If I get this job, I'll work at the factory during the week, and then at 7-Eleven on the weekend."

"So you'll still be working all the time?"

"Yes, but I won't be cleaning houses any longer.  I'll also be making more money, so I'll be able to buy you nicer things."

"Neat, cuz I want to look good when I go to the new school."

That seemed to end the discussion, and the rest of the night and the next few days seemed to fly by.  We all continued our normal routines during the day, and we did the same types of things at home every evening.  Then on Friday I asked Cheryl how the interview had gone while she was fixing dinner.

"It went great."

"So you got the job?" Noah chimed in.

"Yes, but I won't be starting until two weeks from Monday, because I asked if they'd allow me to give a two week notice to my current employer.  I was told they expected I might have to do that after looking at my application, and they didn't have a problem with my request."

"Great!  I'm glad it worked out," I confirmed.  "So when will you tell your boss at 7-Eleven?"

"I already did.  I stopped by on my way home after the interview and gave him my notice.  He agreed to let me work the day shift on the weekends, and although I already did that every Saturday, I'll now be working there both days.  I'll go in at 7:00 and be done by 3:00, so I'll be home every night."

"It's almost the same hours you'll be working at the factory."

"Yes, it is, but I only get paid for seven and a half hours at 7-Eleven, though.  Now I'll be getting paid for eight hours at the factory, and those extra half-hours will add up too, on top of the fact that I'll be getting paid more."

"I'm glad this is working out for you, but I hope you can at least cut back to one day at 7-Eleven after a while.  You're going to wear yourself out working all the time."

"I was basically doing the same thing before, because I was cleaning houses on my days off, so this won't be much different, except I'll be earning a lot more."

After we ended our conversation, I went over to my side to change, and then Noah and I went out for our run.  After we got back, we showered and headed over to eat with his mom, and during the meal Noah asked her another question.  "Since I'll be going with Brian in the morning to pick up the other guys, can I start sleeping with him on Friday night too?"

"I think you'd better ask Brian that question."

"Can I, Brian?"

"It's ok with me, as long as your mother doesn't mind."

"It's fine with me.  Actually, I'm surprised he never asked to do it while we were still living at the trailer park."

"Dang!  I didn't think about it then," Noah groaned.  He looked upset that it hadn't dawned on him to ask me to pick him up on my way home from work on Friday night, because he could have been staying with me an additional night each week.

"Cheer up.  We'll be able to do this from now on, but it doesn't do any good to cry over spilled milk," I chimed in.

"I'm not crying, and I didn't spill any milk," Noah shot back, looking at me oddly.

"It's just an expression that means it doesn't do any good to be upset about something that's already happened and can't be changed.  I was just letting you know that it won't do any good for you to continue thinking about the fact that you could have been spending Friday nights with me before now."

"Oh, ok.  I see what you mean."

Once that was settled, we agreed to play cards instead of watching TV.  Noah was excited about teaching his mom how to play the card games I'd taught him and the other boys on New Year's Eve, although I think she might have already known how to play them.  She listened as Noah told her about each game, though, and then we'd play a couple of hands before moving on to the next game.  We continued doing this until it was time to turn in, and after Cheryl returned to her side, Noah made an observation.

"This will be way better with me staying here tonight, cuz now I'll be able to sleep with you three nights every week, instead of just two."

"Yes, I'm sure we'll both enjoy it, but just remember that you'll have to spend the other nights sleeping in your own bed."

"Yeah, I know, but I don't see why, cuz Mom already knows about us."

"It's because I don't want anyone else to find out that you're doing this.  Besides, if anyone asks where you sleep you can truthfully say that you have your own bedroom and sleep there, without telling them you don't do it every night.  Most people wouldn't understand about you sleeping with me, and it could create big problems if they found out, especially for me."

"But I won't tell nobody."

"Maybe not intentionally, but you might slip and say something you shouldn't, and that would be all it would take."

"I promise I won't do that."

"I know you wouldn't do it on purpose, but we all make mistakes at times.  Besides, your mom likes to check on you during the night, and she can't do that when you're with me."

"Ok, I'll sleep in my own room on the other nights then."

We sucked each other off before going to sleep, and then we cuddled together until morning.

After I fixed breakfast for both of us, we got ready to pick up the other boys at the park.  Of course no one said anything about Noah being with me this time, seeing they knew he was living next door.  They merely got in the car and I drove back to the house.

I hadn't had much time to plan anything for today, seeing Noah spent every evening with me before he returned to his bedroom to sleep.  However, I found enough time to come up with a modest adventure we could play out before we changed into our swimsuits, and then I took them to the state park again.

Glen was doing much better, so after spending a half hour working with him in the shallow water, I decided to take all of the boys over to the other section again.  I let the three older boys swim on their own and merely kept on eye on them, but I made sure Glen was always within arm's reach, in case he was having a problem.  He seemed to be doing fairly well and having fun, so I let him go over and interact with the other boys until it was time to leave.

When we returned to the house, we changed out of our swimsuits and I took them out for lunch.  After we finished our meal, I took the other three back to their apartment building, and then Noah and I returned to the house.  I let Noah entertain himself while I did a few chores, and shortly after Cheryl got home, Noah and I went out for our nightly run.

"Are we going to practice soccer tomorrow?" he asked shortly after we started out.

"Yes, I promised I'd do that with you every Sunday."

"I'm glad, cuz I'm getting better and think I'm almost good enough to play on the school team."

"I think you're good enough already, because you aren't afraid to work for what you want."

"I don't work!"

"In a way you do.  Doing all of this may seem like fun, but it's also work.  You're getting into great shape and building your endurance by running with me every night, and then you work hard practicing your ball handling, passing, and shooting skills when we go to the high school.  I doubt any of the other boys who'll be trying out for the team have been doing nearly as much as you are to get ready."

"Yeah, but they're probably doing other stuff.  I bet a bunch of them are playing baseball."

"Yes, they might be doing that, but they aren't doing nearly as much running as you are with me.  I still think you'll be in better shape than nearly everyone else, if not all of them."

"Really?  So you think I'll do good then?"

"If you do as well as when you're with me, then you'll do fantastic."

"And my mom says she'll come to watch me play if I make the team."

"And I'll get there as often as I can too, but she gets out of work a lot earlier than I do."

"Yeah, I know, but I still want you to come whenever you can."

"I will.  I promise."

When we got back to the house, we cleaned up and changed, and then we went over to have dinner with Cheryl.  During the meal, Noah told her what we'd talked about during our run and that I promised to be at his practices and games as often as I could.  She merely smiled at both of us as we continued eating.

When Noah left to use the toilet, Cheryl admitted something to me.  "He not only has a crush on you, but he also looks up to you as a father-figure.  I'm glad, seeing his dad isn't around to do these things with him any longer."

"I'm happy to do whatever I can, but I certainly don't want to replace his dad."

"I know, and you're not.  It's just important for Noah to know that you are going to be there to do these things for him.  It means a lot to him, and to me too."

"I'm glad you both feel that way, and I'll do my best."

When Noah returned, Cheryl brought out some board games she'd brought with her when they moved and asked if we wanted to play one of those instead.  "Since we didn't have cable at the trailer, I bought these at the Thrift Store.  Noah and I used to play them at night, so I thought it might be fun if we could all do it here once in a while."

"Sure, it sounds like fun," I agreed.

She had Sorry, Trouble, Pay Day, Connect 4, Battleship, and Yahtzee, and after discussing it, we decided to play Yahtzee first.  I was a little rusty on the rules, seeing it had been a lot longer since I'd last played, but it was fun.  Afterward we switched to Sorry and had a good time doing that as well, and then Noah and I went to my side of the house to turn in.

"That was fun and I hope we can do it more often," Noah said as we were getting undressed.

"Yes, I enjoyed it as well.  In fact, I might even pick up some other games so we'll have even more choices."

"Really?  Like what?"

"I was thinking I could get Life."

"How about Ticket to Ride and Who Tooted?  I played those games before and they're fun too."

"I'm not familiar with those, but I'll check them out."

"Thanks, cuz I think you'll like them."

Once again, Noah and I took turns sucking each other off, and then we cuddled together before falling asleep.  As usual, I still had my arm wrapped over Noah's side when I woke up the next morning.

Cheryl was home, since she'd given up the house cleaning jobs and hadn't started working at 7-Eleven on Sunday yet.  She let us know that she had everything ready to make breakfast, so we went next door and filled our bellies.  After we finished eating, Noah went over to my side to watch cartoons, but I stuck around to chat with Cheryl.

"So what are you going to do today?"

"I'll probably just work around here, because there's still a few things I need to unpack and take care of."

"Do you think you'd have time to go to the high school with us when I take Noah to practice his soccer skills?  I know he'd like you to see what we've been doing."

"How long do you plan on being there?"

"We usually stay an hour or two, but we can shorten it, if you're willing to join us.  I know you being there will mean more to Noah than staying a little longer."

"No, that won't be necessary.  I think I can spare an hour or two for my son."

"Great!  I'm sure he'll be happy to hear it."

After I felt our meals had time to settle, I went over to see if Noah was ready to go.  "Yeah, let's do that now."

"I'll let your mom know we're ready, because she's going to join us."

"Really?  I'm glad she's coming with us this time."

"And if you're lucky we might even convince her to participate."

After retrieving the soccer ball, Noah went with me to let his mom know we were ready to leave.  "I'm glad you're going to the high school with us.  This will be really awesome."

"Wow.  I didn't know this would mean so much to you."

"Yeah, I think it's great!"

When we got to the high school, Noah and I went through the skills we typically worked on, and once Cheryl saw what we were up to, we included her in the process.  Noah would pass the ball to one of us, and then we would pass it back to him so he could take a shot at the wall.  Cheryl even played defense against Noah so he could practice dribbling around her, and even though she didn't exactly know what she was doing, it was still good practice for her son.

When we finished doing those things, we went back to the house and had lunch together, and then Cheryl and I did more of our chores while Noah spent time watching TV.  Later, Noah and I went out for our run while his mother fixed dinner.  After we showered, we joined her for dinner.

After we finished the meal, we cleared off the table and helped her load the dishwasher, and then we all sat down to play a game of Pay Day.  When the game ended, we went over to watch TV for a while, and then we called it a night.  Once Cheryl returned to her apartment, Noah and I got ready for bed.  We sucked each other off before we cuddled together and prepared to sleep, and it didn't take long for me to doze off.  It had been a very enjoyable weekend.
