Watching Noah Grow by Erastes

Chapter 40 – Highs and Lows.

While we were eating breakfast, Jason thanked me several times for masturbating him the previous night and for letting him do it to me.  “I’m glad you did it with us, cuz I’ve been wantin’ to do it to you too.”

I think I got that impression from the other times you’ve stayed over.”

Jason immediately began to blush when he realized that I knew what he’d been up to when he stayed over.  “I thought you was asleep.”

What are you guys talking about?  What did he do?” Noah demanded as he glanced between us.

During the night Jason would reach over and explore my penis with his hand once he thought I’d dozed off.”

You really did that?” Noah gasped.

Yeah, I wanted to see what it was like to hold a dicky that was really big.”

But he only did it for a couple of minutes before he stopped,” I added in Jason’s defense.

As soon as we finished eating, I had the boys grab their gear so I could drive them to the high school for the soccer match.  After they got out of the car and sped off to the locker room, I grabbed my laptop and began working on the project for the office.  I knew it would be a while before the team came out and began warming up, and even longer before the match got underway, so I figured I’d remain in the car and use my time wisely.  Actually, I got quite a bit done before I stopped, and then I removed the lawn chair from the trunk and carried it over to the hill so I could watch the teams compete.

The visitors won the toss and kicked off first, and I watched as they moved methodically down the pitch.  They continually passed the ball from sideline to sideline and tested the defense in each area to find a weakness, which meant there wasn’t a great deal of excitement for the first few minutes.  That all changed when the left wing passed the ball back to one of his midfielders, and then that boy made a quick pass to the striker as he cut toward the goal.  The striker was able to control the pass in stride and quickly fired off a shot.  He managed to catch the keeper moving across the goal mouth in his direction and aimed his kick at the area the keeper had just vacated.  The keeper attempted to change direction so he could block it, but the ball sailed just out of his reach and into the net for a score.  The visitors had taken the early lead.

I could tell Noah’s team was disappointed, but they quickly raced to their positions so they could kickoff next, as they prepared for their chance to score.  They didn’t have nearly as much success as the other team, and over the next several minutes the ball repeatedly changed hands from one team to the other.  Neither side was able to score again before the intermission, so the home team remained a goal behind at the break.

Once the team gathered around him, Coach Rich spent his time offering suggestions about what they could do to score, and the team did a lot better as the second half got underway.  After a couple of failed attempts to even the score, one of the other midfielders on our team made a pass to the left wing.  That boy dribbled the ball several yards along the sideline before lofting a crossing pass toward the top of the goal box.

As soon as he saw that happen, the striker sprinted to the location where the ball was heading and reached it just before one of the defenders got there.  The striker was able to get his head on the ball, but unfortunately his header was deflected by a defender and bounced to the opposite side of the penalty box.  Our team’s right wing darted to the ball before anyone else and launched his own shot at the goal.  His kick was blocked by the sweeper, but to that boy’s chagrin he’d instinctively stuck out his arm to stop the kick.   The referee immediately blew his whistle and called a handball, and since it happened in the penalty box, Noah’s team was awarded a penalty kick.

Coach Rich signaled Noah to take the kick, so Noah took the ball from the referee and placed it on the penalty mark.  I waited to see if he was going to use the same tactic to score that he’d used before, and he started off as if that was what he intended to do.  However, this time he did a little stutter-step as he approached the ball, causing the keeper to dive in the direction he thought the ball was going.  When that happened, Noah lofted the ball slightly behind the diving boy and just under the crossbar for the score.  The match was now tied with several minutes left to play.

Regrettably, it was the other team that scored next and Noah’s team ended up losing 2-1.  I could read the disappointment on Noah’s face when the game ended, but just as anyone who’s ever played a sport soon learns – you can’t win them all.

Man, I can’t believe we just lost,” Noah whined before heading off to shower.

It happens to the best of teams, so learn from what happened and try to do better the next time.”

They were a good team and there’s no shame in losing to them,” Coach Rich interjected as he came over to speak with us.  “You played well and did your part, and now we have to prepare for our next match.”

After Noah took off with Jason, Coach Rich and I continued our conversation.  “I noticed Noah tried something different when he took the penalty kick today.”

Yes, he felt he couldn’t continue doing the same thing every time, so he’s been working on different ways to score from the penalty mark.”

He looked good doing it, and I’m glad the rule was changed this year so that little stutter-step was legal.  To be honest, I’m impressed by the way Noah plans ahead for things like this.  He’s got a great work ethic for such a young player.”

Yes, he makes me take him to the high school every Sunday to work on his off leg, as well as to improve other areas of his game.   You’d think he would want a day off after practicing and playing all week.”

Possibly, but that’s the trademark of a really good player.”

Coach Rich then excused himself so he could go check on his team and make sure there weren’t any problems.  Once he did that, I grabbed my lawn chair, placed it in the trunk, and then waited for Noah to join me.

He was still a little bummed out as we drove home, and he remained that way for the rest of the day so I left him alone and let him work his feelings out on his own.  We ate lunch together, but the conversation was minimal, and then he took the RC car outside for a while.  When he got tired of doing that, he came inside and watched TV alone for a brief time before asking me to watch a movie with him.  Once again, there was minimal conversation and he merely leaned against my side as he focused on the screen.  I wrapped my arm around his shoulders hoping it would make him feel a little better, and it must have worked because he seemed to be in a more upbeat mood when the movie ended.

When his mom arrived home from work, he told her about the game, but he didn’t sound quite as depressed as he had earlier.  He was more talkative too and seemed to be getting over the loss.  When it was finally time to go to bed, he was back to being his old self.

I want you to suck me off tonight.  It will make me feel better and help me sleep.”

Your wish is my command, young master.”

As I was busy bobbing up and down on his stiffy, Noah made another comment.  “You should do this to Jason when he stays over next time.”

I think I’ve already done more with him than I should, so I don’t want you suggesting it to him.”

Ok, I won’t.”

Shortly after he shot his watery seed into my mouth, we cuddled together and prepared to sleep.  As I started to doze off, I hoped he would keep the promise he’d just made.

After a good night’s sleep, we had breakfast together before starting our normal Sunday routine.  Things got a little weird when it dawned on us that we didn’t have to pick up the other boys today, since I’d told them I wasn’t going to be around.  In fact, this was going to be the first Sunday in a long time that they weren’t with us, and it made things seem a little strange from that point on.

Noah giggled nervously when I pointed this out to him, and then we spent the next several minutes discussing what we were going to do instead.  Eventually, he decided that he wanted to watch the Sunday shows that he’d been missing out on whenever the others were with us.  I agreed that would be fine, and I’d be able to do my chores while he was watching his programs.

Once his shows ended, Noah complained that he was hungry and wanted to eat, so I hurriedly prepared something for lunch.  When he finished chowing down, he announced that he wanted to go to the high school to practice next, but I pointed out that he should wait a while before we did that.  After thinking about it briefly, he agreed to play with the RC car until I determined it was ok to go.

When I finally told him I was ready to do what he wanted, he put the RC car away and grabbed the soccer ball.  We then spent the next couple of hours on the practice field as he worked on improving the use of his off leg.  Just before we were ready to call it quits, he asked me to play goalie for a few minutes so he could practice taking shots with his left foot.  I didn’t have a problem doing that for him, and I was stunned when he launched a bullet past me a couple of minutes later.

Wow, that was the best one yet,” he shouted with glee as I stood there with my mouth hanging open.

Yes, it certainly was.  I definitely wasn’t about to step in front of it either, because I was afraid I’d end up having to go to the hospital if the ball hit me.”

Noah giggled.  “Awww, my shot wasn’t that hard.”

From my perspective it looked like a rocket coming at me.”  He giggled again.

We worked on his left foot for a little while longer before heading back to the house.  His mother wasn’t home when we got there, so Noah suggested that we should go for our run.  I couldn’t believe that he wanted to do this after running around the athletic field for the last couple of hours, but he said he was fine.  If we did it now, it would also allow us plenty of time to shower and change before it was time to eat with his mom.  Seeing we were already dressed appropriately, we merely took off and started jogging down the street.

Cheryl passed us shortly after we’d turned onto the main drag and tooted and waved as she drove by.  We waved back and kept going, since we’d just begun our run.  When we finished and returned to the house, we showered quickly, changed, and headed next door to see if she needed help.  She didn’t, so we chatted with her while she finished preparing our meal.

What day do you have a game this week?” she asked Noah.

I think it’s on Tuesday or Wednesday.”

Is it a home or away?”

I’m not sure, so let me go get the schedule.”

Noah raced off to his bedroom to retrieve it, and when he came back he made an announcement.  “The match is on Tuesday and we’re playing there.  It’s against my old school.”

I wasn’t previously aware of this and thought it was a shame that I hadn’t noticed it before.  I could have invited the other boys to join us for that match, instead of when he played a week from Saturday.  I even mentioned this to Noah.

Ummm, I think it would’ve made me really nervous if I knew they were gonna be there.  It’s gonna be strange enough playing at my old school, cuz I’ll prob’ly know some of the boys on the other team.”

Ok, then I won’t drive over to tell them about this match.”

Cheryl and I both planned on being there to watch Noah on Tuesday, and although Cheryl would get there first, I should be able to see most of the action, since the school is so close to where I work.  He seemed more nervous than usual, as well as a little preoccupied for the rest of the night and the following day, so I hoped this wouldn’t carryover into the match.

As soon as I wrapped things up at the office on Tuesday, I rushed out of the building and drove over to the school.  I quickly grabbed the lawn chair out of the trunk, and then I raced to see if the match had started yet.  When I got there and glanced down at the pitch, I saw the teams were still warming up, so I’d arrived in time.  I then looked around to locate Cheryl, and when I spotted her I was surprised to see there were a couple of others chatting with her.

I didn’t expect to see you guys here,” I offered as I placed my chair next to hers.

Yeah, we didn’t either,” Gus replied.  “When we heard the morning announcements on Monday, the principal mentioned everything that was going on this week, and that’s when we learned our soccer team was gonna play Noah’s team.  We told our moms that we were gonna stay after school to watch Noah play, and we said you’d give us a ride home afterward.”

Sure, I don’t have a problem doing that, but I didn’t think you were even interested in soccer.”

We don’t usually like to watch it, but we like playin’ it sometimes,” Sam chimed in.  “But we thought we’d come and see Noah play, seein’ he keeps tellin’ us about how good he’s doin’.”

I think it’s very nice of you to do this, and I’m sure Noah will appreciate seeing you’re here as well.”

I then glanced down at the pitch and noticed the referee was calling for the teams to get ready for the kickoff.  Noah had been busy chatting with a couple of the players on the other team at the time, so he had to stop and get into position.  Obviously, he’d been chatting with boys he knew from when he went to school here, and I suspect those boys were mildly surprised to see him on the other team.  The home team won the coin toss, so they got the ball first as the match got underway.

Noah looked slightly nervous when the game got underway, but that didn’t last for very long.  Once he began chasing after the ball and playing defense, I could tell he was in full game mode.  In fact, I was intrigued as he raced over from the opposite side of the field to check the boy who’d just had the ball passed to him.  Noah’s sudden appearance caused the kid to panic and pass the ball before he was ready, and that caused the kick to veer off target.  One of Noah’s teammates was able to pick off the errant pass, and then he kicked the ball over to Noah.  After controlling the ball, Noah made a mad dash toward the other team’s goal and showed off some fairly nifty footwork as he dribbled around one defender and then avoided another.

Shortly after he got past the second boy, Noah made a pass to his left wing, and that boy hurriedly dribbled down the sideline.  After advancing the ball a dozen yards or more, he launched a crossing pass toward the striker.  One of the other team’s fullbacks dashed in between and managed to head the ball away, and when Noah saw this he didn’t hesitate and darted toward the loose ball.  He got to it first and quickly passed the ball to the opposite side of the field.  The right wing then dribbled it a few yards before kicking the ball back to Noah as he broke toward the goal.  Noah controlled the ball with his chest and then dribbled past the fullback who’d moved up to check him.  As soon as he was by that boy, Noah took a shot on goal with his left foot.

The keeper had momentarily been obscured by the sweeper and failed to see the ball coming off Noah’s foot.  When he finally spotted it, he attempted to knock it away, but his hand merely grazed the ball before it went into the net for a score.

Noah’s teammates immediately mobbed him, and I noticed Jason and the coach were going crazy along the sideline.  Cheryl had also leaped out of her seat and was cheering loudly, and I jumped up to cheer and clap enthusiastically as well, as my way of letting Noah know I thought he’d done a fantastic job.

Wow, Noah is really good,” Gus shouted.

Yeah, he’s way better than I thought he’d be,” Sam added.

Yes, he’s been working really hard at improving his skills and is doing very well,” I agreed.

When Noah looked up to find us, he was grinning from ear-to-ear, but that suddenly changed to a look of shock.  I think he was stunned to see Gus and Sam standing next to us, also cheering loudly.  After Noah recovered from his initial shock, he went back to his position on the pitch and got ready for the other team to put the ball in play.  He continued doing very well and even scored again in the second half, and his team ended up winning 3-1.  As soon as the match ended, he raced over to talk to us.

Great game,” Gus screamed as Noah approached.

Yeah, you played really good,” Sam added.

Thanks.  I can’t believe you guys are here.”

We heard the announcement about the game at school and knew you’d be playing, so we came to see how you did,” Sam replied.

Yeah, we talked our mom’s into lettin’ us do this, cuz we told them Brian would give us a ride home afterward,” Gus continued.

I’m very proud of you.  You played fantastic,” Cheryl added.  “I’m also glad your friends had a chance to see you play too.”

Yeah, and I’m glad I had a good game while they were here, but I’ve gotta get goin’.  I have to ride back on the bus with the team.”

Ok, I’ll see you at home, honey.  Brian, would you mind picking him up from the school so I can go home and start dinner?”

Of course not.  I’ll drop these two off first, and then I’ll swing by to get him.  We’ll see you back at the house.”

Thanks, I appreciate that.”

Cheryl gave Noah a hug before he went to rejoin his team, and then she grabbed her lawn chair and headed over to her car.  I did the same, while Gus and Sam followed me over to my car so I could take them home.  Once we were all buckled in, they began chatting with me again.

Thanks for giving us a ride,” Gus began.  “I’m glad we came to the game today, cuz Noah played great.”

Yeah, it was exciting watching him, even though our team lost,” Sam added.

It’s unfortunate that only one team can win, because they both played fairly well, but I know you made Noah feel really good by being here.”

We’re glad we came too,” Gus responded.

Yeah, Noah is way better than we thought,” Sam added.

After I dropped them off at their apartment building, I drove to the middle school and picked up Noah.  He was glowing as he walked over to get in the car.

Did you know they were going to be there?”

No, it surprised me too,” I confirmed.  “They also picked a good time to show up, because you were on fire.”

Yeah, I played really good today.  I thought I’d be nervous playing against a bunch of guys I knew, and I was at first, but that didn’t last very long.  As soon as the game started, I just focused on what I was s’posed to do.”

I think playing against boys you knew helped to bring your game to the next level.  Hell, you even kicked a goal with your left foot.”

I had to, cuz the ball was on my left side, but I thought the goalie was going to catch it.”

He tried, but you got it by him.  Congratulations.  You played super today.”

That’s what Jason and the coach said too.”

When we reached the house, we ate dinner with his mother, and then Noah went to do his homework before going to bed.  It had been a big day for him and he was exhausted, but no matter how tired he was, I was convinced he would enjoy some very pleasant dreams tonight.
