Date: Mon, 20 Feb 2023 05:53:37 +1100 From: max dowling Subject: Kasey with a k / chapter 54 Adam 54 Maxieplus Trish opened the wine, and I sat with her while Kasey and Mick talked. They had been looking at the computer screen and Mick was pointing out some abnormal chapters, he sat back and rubbed his eyes then shook his head. They needed a complete break from their work even I could see that. Trish nudged my foot and said. "Show me your bathroom." I got up and walked her into the bedroom. "I wanted to talk to you for a second, do you think Kasey's eyes are getting worse, he keeps rubbing them." I nodded at her because I had noticed it. "When we get back I will take him to be tested, I hope to god it's nothing too serious. There was that knock on his head that still haunts me and he is all over the shop according to Mick. I will talk to him." "Good, the sooner the better Adam. When do you think we should open the salon?" "From what June said, there are customers calling by every day I suppose the first few times we will be busy maybe we better ask Lynnie if she wants some extra work or Anne maybe." "Anne is too wrapped up in Mitchell's life, so I doubt whether she will do it unless they want a dirty weekend away." "Oh god don't place that image in my head Trish, I won't sleep when they are here." "I know he's gorgeous, but keep in mind he's young and still trying to find his feet in the adult world." "What do you know, spill it?" "He's a great kid but from what I'm hearing he's not being very faithful Adam, just a rumor I heard from James." "I see, does Anne know?" "I don't know Adam, she would be as thick as a brick if she didn't suspect something." "I don't know whether she expected a lot from him except some dick, but I could be wrong she may have fallen deeply in love with him." "I can't say, she never discusses him with us." "I hope to god she doesn't get hurt." "So do I and get onto that eye specialist as soon as possible Adam." "I will." We walked back and when we appeared Kasey called out. "Ready to see it?" The kids jumped up and looked at him. He picked up the remote and dimmed the inside lights then he lifted the shade on the windows. Colored lights were everywhere, fairy lights were up the trees, wrapped around trunks, and led lights snaked in and out of the foliage. They all wowed and pressed their noses up against the window to watch the fairyland come alive. It was magic, his arms slipped around me and he kissed my neck. Mick stood with Trish and placed his arm across her shoulders, it was mesmerizing to watch. The boys were staying over, and I had given them a choice to either sleep on the floor or get into the bunk beds. They chose the floor, of course, the nice thing about the new home was our and Sam's bedrooms only had one large window the other walls were solid, so I didn't feel so exposed when I changed for bed. The fairy lights were nice, we didn't need a bedside lamp. All was very quiet and Kasey was as attentive as usual, no love making just some touching and sucking tonight, and I do like my sucking. He dragged me in with his arm and I nestled into him. It was warm so I had no fears that the kids will freeze overnight. "Kasey I want to talk to you about something." "Monday I will make an appointment Monday, it worries me too." "Good as long as you are not covering it up just to get some work done, you know that's not urgent." "I know," "Do you get headaches?" "No Adam, I just get a lot of mist and I can't seem to lose it." "What's it like?" "Like seeing underwater and it's annoying, and worrying but I wanted you to see the new house with me first, just in case something is wrong. At least I will have that memory." "You will have plenty more Kase. There's no reason to panic as yet and this place is awesome, I didn't imagine you would see it this way, it is beautiful." "Well it's for you and Sam, he's now got a bigger playground to play in, no nasties around Adam, all has been checked by the nasty things police." He grinned, I know he means the snakes. He kissed me deeply again and looked into my eyes, he was trying to remember them and how they looked, I know this because he kissed both of them and moaned. "Did you see what Mick was doing to Trish tonight?" "His arm over her shoulder?" "Yes." "He's gay." "Is he?" It could have been a friendly gesture but I did see Trish pat his hand a few times and I suppose friends do that sometimes. Goodnight my Kasey with a k." "Goodnight Adam with an a, sleep well." "Always when I am with you." I heard the kids talking in the morning, Kasey and I had slept in and they were very quiet. I suspected the tv was on low volume but I had to get up anyway, I needed the toilet. After that, I pulled on shorts and a bathrobe and Kasey rubbed his eyes again, he was trying to focus. Maybe we had better go home today, I will think about it. I was planning a pizza night with George and June with the kids tonight just a small party to christen the new build. The sun was up and shining through the massive windows, when Kasey arrived he turned them down a bit and they shaded the room better. I had collected hugs and kisses from the boys and the milo was ordered for pre-breakfast drinks, I have a menu this morning so will give them a choice, Kasey and us adults will have bacon eggs tomatoes mushrooms, and toast. I fished around in the cupboards and found my fry pan, my kitchen things had been moved downstairs. Trish and Mick arrived with coffee in hand. "Good morning kid's did you sleep well?" "Yes Adam, good morning we have just been sitting on the deck it's lovely up there." "Did you put wood on the fire?" "Yes." She gave me a sour look. I leaned over and said. "Did you sleep alone?" She smacked my shoulder and said. "Of course I did." After breakfast the kids went exploring, Mick and Kasey opened the laptop, and Trish and I went to set up the salon. We opened boxes and put the appropriate cans and containers onto the trolleys pins and rollers were next and the rest were stored in a linen cupboard that was in the hallway that led to the small toilet. It looked much better after we finished Trish had a small list of things we had forgotten but we will get them from the city salon. "I reckon two weeks Trish, the Monday, eight to four, what do you think?" "Let's do it, but I can't help but think we should open Sunday also. I think there will be a line up to the road waiting. Maybe set Eva up out the front just to do the kid's haircuts. After the initial surge, it should settle down to a nice even Monday-only trading." "Yes, I'm with you okay coffee?" "Yes please, and we had better do something about lunch." "Sandwiches?" "Good." I guess she's hungry again, I know Kase and the kids will be. We went inside and June and George were there getting the kids some lunch, they were making extras for the boys. They were talking about their camping night and begging to have another one tonight. When June was asking about the salon's opening again. I looked at the calendar on my phone and told her Sunday and Monday in two weeks. I also asked her if she would hang a closed sign on the door whenever we couldn't make it, or if something came up. I know it's a half-hearted sort of way to open a salon but it's the hills, nothing gets done up here on schedule. "Are you going to take bookings?" She asked. I looked at Trish and she said no, not at this stage. After lunch, we walked into town to get more bread and milk, and surprise everyone came with us, ice creams were purchased and we all sat in the sun outside Rhoda's place. She read Mick's cards, she laughed then he bought a crystal because Sam insisted he has one. A woman who looked a little haggard pulled up in a parking space, she got out of her car and almost rushed towards us. She said hello to Rhoda and then looked at me. "It's you that's opening the salon isn't it?" "Yes in two weeks, my name is Adam this is Trish we both will be running it." She looked disappointed. "I have been calling past for the last three weeks I desperately need to get rid of all this hair it's driving me crazy." "What all of it?" It was long but very knotty looking. "Yes, I just don't have the time away from the farm to do anything except shop. My name is Bev by the way." "Pleased to meet you, give us a half hour and come by the salon, if we are not back just wait. I will do something with it today." She almost kissed my feet and she also offered to bring our grocery shopping with her. We had a good look at the playground on our way out, and it was a magical place, there was something new around every bush and the kids were calling out to each other when they found something new. We made it back and I picked up my travel bag and said I would be back in a moment. Trish followed me out and Bev was having a ciggie by the car. She unloaded our shopping and then we opened for business. A good wash was done by Trish and we found out she ran an Alpaca farm no more than two miles away. I told her I will bring Sam by to look at them someday. I cut away all the knots and split ends then did a very nice bob, she will be able to handle this easily, and she looked ten years younger. She was so grateful she offered to pay the going rate but we insisted as she was our first client, it was charge free. Trish swept up and I put everything away, our first customer was on a high when she left and she had told us that every mum in the area was dying to come by, we were the talk of the town. Sam ran in and was trying to pull me outside to look at something, so I followed him down another pathway. He had found swings hanging from some trees and he needed a push because the others were busy doing their own thing. I laughed as he jumped on one seat and said. "Push daddy." I obliged him for the next hour and that was when Kasey walked through the bush and took over. "This is so nice Kase, I can't tell you enough how wonderful it is." "You can show me tonight." He grinned. "I certainly will." I went over to the oldest boy who was helping his brothers and told him to jump up and I pushed him for a while, then the others. I remembered the swings near our house, they were always better when someone pushed me. I took the pizza orders and rang the shop, as I talked away at the lady who took it, she started talking about Bev's haircut. I told her the dates and she said she will inform her customers. "What have we done Trish, we are going to be so busy." "We find two stylists to run it for us." She grinned. "In the meantime we do it, and we can be the backup when we are here." "I doubt anyone in this area does hair, because of the local reaction to us. Maybe we rotate the salon staff, and offer a free weekend in here for some work." "Let's just see how it goes." "Let's just see how Eva and Wilson go first," Kasey said. "Why?" I was intrigued by his statement. "They are thinking of buying Junes home across the road, better views bigger block of land." "No, she never said anything to me." Trish was surprised. "It is an idea at the moment, they love it up here." He closed down his laptop and rubbed his eyes then blinked a lot. "We go home tomorrow Kasey, you have to be seen to," I said. "I can go another day." "Another day on that computer straining your eyes isn't good enough, we leave tomorrow." I was annoyed at him for working when he could be outside playing with his son, and now I'm more annoyed Eva didn't say anything. You couldn't see June's home from our place but I will make it my mission in the morning to go have a look at it. Maybe I can buy it and keep her in my salon for good. "They won't buy it, Adam, I doubt whether they have the funds, they are still paying off the wedding," Trish whispered to me as she took another bite of her delicious pizza. "I thought Wilson made good money." "He does, but Eva loves the salon and her home so he's got an uphill battle to get her to move." "Good." I felt mean but I am very protective of my staff I need them around me. "They have more money than you suspect." That was all Kasey said. It was a battle to watch Kasey, Mick and George eat the big family pizzas, they were eyeing off the other two and George was eyeing off the boy's ones, he knows they won't finish them all. I laughed to myself when June arrived, she had some washing to bring in. She looked everyone up and down and said. "Well where is it, I hope you blokes haven't spat on it." "In the oven mum." I heard. "Thank you, son." Trish got up and got it for her. And the names didn't go unnoticed, George said they had a meeting, and that's what the boys wanted to call her, so he had to go along with their decision. They had decided on mum because their real mum is mummy so they won't use that. Everyone was happy and no one went hungry because I had marshmallows and chocolate for afters. We all decided to go to the sitting area and toast them on the gas fire, it was a magical place for sure. I cuddled up with Kasey and he whispered sweet sexy things in my ear as he popped another treat in my gob. "We will stay tomorrow I will have the day off, if it is what I think it is we have no concerns, Adam. A small operation will correct my lenses and hopefully, I will see better than ever." "So you think it's maybe cataracts?" "Yes all the signs are there, so it won't hurt to leave it for another day. I was looking forward to your casserole tomorrow night." He kissed my neck again in the right spot. I had done some reading on my own this morning and he is right, if it is cataracts he will need them removed. We had a magical night in the forest, the lighting was awesome, and Kasey said they were all hooked up to a solar panel and batteries so we won't get a hefty power bill. I walked hand in hand with Sam, and he stopped and looked at everything, By the time we got back he was fast asleep on Kaseys back. The others were stuffed also and were in their sleeping bags fighting off sleep. Monday is a day off for us but the kids had to go to school, they said their goodbyes to Sam and he said he would see them next week, I didn't know about that one it will be too soon. But I was proven wrong when he rang Billy for the fifth time, yes he will be ready to come and play next weekend for sure. I didn't mind, it's wonderful here and if Kasey gets his eyes done he can relax here more than at home. The day was long and sunny, I fell asleep out on the sofa where the fire pit was. Trish and Mick both decided they will go home early, so they left just after lunch. I was full and tired so went to have my nap when Sam did. He had poked around all morning with Kasey in tow, and they did find a few new things. I felt a hard body get in behind me and my hips snuggled in as he lifted my cheeks to get a better position. He was snoring lightly within moments and I was glad I didn't have to perform today. I woke with a start, some bird had decided to sing in the nearby tree, I listened for a while but I decided that he needed singing lessons. Kasey stirred and I sat up to rub my face. Sam came down and sat, he was bored without the kids, so we decided to go on home. He can be just as bored there, and I wanted to get some more information on his eyes. We locked up and I cleared the fridge, I will make the casserole at home, we checked the small salon was tidy then I drove home. The kids next door had our permission to use the gully whenever they wanted and if June and George wanted a magical night they could use the fire pit. I drove carefully and we talked quietly some of the way as he held my hand. Sam fell asleep again and Kase was telling me he will go see the medical officer tomorrow. "Not an eye specialist?" "I will have to see the chief officer and he will recommend someone." "I thought a private practice would have more training in that area." "Yes your right, he will determine how bad it is and recommend a private place to get it done, this way it goes through the Military, we don't pay." He grinned. Kasey loves his little freebies. I popped the casserole in the pressure cooker as soon as I got in, dinner will be done in an hour, I sorted clothes and Sam rang Billy. Kasey set his computer up then he made a phone call. He didn't open it again all night, and when Trish and Mick arrived Kasey started talking about the laws he was fixing up. "Well when your eyes are good you had better read the last ten chapters, there is something that doesn't add up." "I will Mick, then we start again, I will dictate to my phone still and then read what is written." "Sounds very complicated Kasey, just take your time." "I need to go get another couple of cartons, coming for a walk Trish?" I had bought the supermarket trolly with us so I took that and we grabbed four cartons this time. I lingered and looked the displays over, yes my Adele would love this. The first carton was more photo albums, which I put aside, the next were household account books and ledgers with payment slips for her jobs, all entered from the very first job to her last, she was meticulous with her bookkeeping. I put that with the others against the wall. I started dinner by thickening the well-done stew and then putting a small bowl aside for Sam. The men were hungry so I told them it was ready and they immediately helped themselves. I cut Sam's meat and the vegetables up and blew on it a few times. "Blow on it baby, it's still a little hot." I then helped myself as Trish had started eating I might as well too. It was lip-smacking and the men had seconds, Sam was slower and I sat with him for ten minutes and managed to get some into him while he had one eye on the tv. The next carton was too sad for me to look in, so it was handed to Trish. It was full of boyhood toys and medals, uniforms, papers, and photos. This was full of Johnny's memories. I made her put it aside with the rest. Like Jimmy, I didn't know what to do with all this stuff, but when Kasey got up and retrieved it he and Mick went through it. "A lot of this stuff can go to the Australian war memorial Adam, they collect these types of time capsules." "I will talk to Jimmy then, maybe your right." I put the other carton aside, I started to get a bit sad. My doorbell went and dad was on our doorstep, he doesn't miss a trick. Sam showed him in and dad picked him up in one swoop of his powerful arm. They kissed and then the questions arrived about his weekend. The guys saluted him and he stood them down and then sat at the table. "Have you eaten?" "Not yet son. I'm on my way home to have something." I looked into the cooker at least the guys had left a little in the bottom, so I made him up a bowl for the road. "The gluttons have raided it several times dad but this will keep you going." "Thank you, son." He started taunting my man with his moans as he ate. "Now, Lieutenant what's up with your eyesight?" Kasey shook his head and answered him, telling him everything he thought was happening. When he finished it was my turn. "I know this is a stupid question dad, but how did you know he was having trouble?" "He made an appointment with the military eye doctor, anything the major does is reported to me. So I'm here to get a first-hand explanation that's all. Your mother worries about him." He grinned. "I think she should be more worried about your obsession with my hunky husband." I grinned then winked at Kasey. "Not so Steven, anything to do with the Lieutenant is pinged and I am informed. I just wanted to see if everything is okay." "I see, so you are having him followed?" "Yes in a nutshell Steven, that's our job. We don't want him running off to foreign countries again do we?" Makes sense that I should apologize, yes, we don't want him running off again. "Sorry, dad." I looked at Kase and he smiled. "So your appointment is at ten, and you will be referred to a specialist. By the end of the day, you probably will have had surgery and will be home by five." "That quick?" "It's all very streamlined nowadays Steven, day surgery, new lenses back home to recover, back to work in a few days." "So you read up on it dad?' "Yes son, I think I have that right, Lieutenant?" he looked at Kasey. "Unless it's something else, yes you are correct mostly. Consultation and surgery when they can fit me in, sometimes three weeks later." "Let's wait and see," Dad said. "Will it change his eye color?" "No." I grinned because I like Kasey's eyes. Dad left a half hour later he had his driver waiting downstairs, Sam had fallen asleep on the sofa so I picked him up and put him to bed. He's so tuckered out it was a big weekend for him. Trish looked at the other unopened carton but Mick wanted to go home. They both left and I moved to straddle Kasey, I started by kissing his eyes then he wanted our bed. After dropping Sam off at kindy, I walked with Kasey to the medical officer's rooms, he was busy today, probably fondling recruit's balls, a job I wouldn't knock back. We sat in the waiting room with the other guys, and when dad walked in they all stood up and saluted, except for me. I always felt I should salute him back, but, he does get enough attention, he doesn't need more. He sat next to Kasey and short of taking his hand, he reassured him that everything would be okay. I had a small giggle to myself when I looked at Kasey's face it was red, and he was embarrassed. We couldn't go in with him so we sat and had a coffee, I hope he isn't being fondled in there. The doctor came out and spoke to us while Kasey got over the drops that had been administered. "He's got scratched lenses, most assuredly from that blast he endured in Timor. His lenses are shredded and he does need new ones, the depth of the scratches is minimal so I don't see any trouble in the future. Adam, you must make him wear sunglasses and he will probably need reading glasses, but prescription ones." "Okay I'm sure he will do that anyway, but I will be watching him, doctor." "His surgery is scheduled for tomorrow, I found him a spot at Mater day surgery." "What time does he have to arrive?" "Around nine Adam, general, he will be all right and I am hoping he will see better than ever, maybe no glasses but that's in the future today it's unknown." Kasey was walked out by a male nurse, he looked at me and smiled and I had to go and say it. "Did he make you cough?" The doctor started laughing and looked around the waiting room and whispered. "Now for my next victim, they don't half yelp when I do that." he laughed again I liked his humor. I called in to see Trish and the staff and told them I won't be in this week, then I walked Kasey home, holding his hand while we crossed the road. It started when we got in, he moaned that he was sick and I said he had better go to bed to recover, he wanted me in with him, then it was on for young and old. I grabbed his nuts and made him cough several times. We hung around the apartment until it was time to go get Sam, I wanted him to stay at home he said he was good to go. They had put drops in his eyes and he said that it has worn off, so I didn't want to argue with him. Sam jumped up as usual and Kasey hugged and kissed him, we then slowly walked home and bought fish and chips for dinner. When we finally got in he sat with Sam and told him what was happening, he understood, and then he rang Billy to tell him all about it. They were still planning a weekend get-together so he wasn't that concerned for his papa. I placed some cooled-down chips in front of him and he grazed on them as Kase and I scoffed the fish and chips. There was nothing left by the time we finished, if Trish wants to eat she can order up .With nothing to do he helped me with two more cartons, one was more albums the other magazine covers, and a lot of false eyelashes and makeup, some unopened. Cigarette lighters and cases in gold and I thought this should all be in the museum and I put the carton aside to take back upstairs. The next one was full of restaurant menus, invitations, and her note paper and cards, many of them Christmas ones. Kasey started reading them and said they were from some very prominent designers and even a few from the queen. That one I will send back upstairs to the ladies who curate the museum. I was bushed by the time Trish and Mick arrived, I told them everything that will happen tomorrow and Kasey played the ill-husband game again. Trish ordered some food, and Kasey requested some sticky date pudding. "That will cure your eyes Kasey," I said. "I need something sweet baby." "Get four serves Trish and a chocolate one for the little boy on the couch, I have ice cream in the freezer." I grinned. She huffed and rang the restaurant again. In the morning it started again, he didn't want to go to have the surgery, he was too sick to do it today. I almost hit him over the head with my egg flipper. The doorbell went and mum and dad were there, Sam ran to open it and Billy screamed the loudest as they finally caught up. He ran over to me and hugged my legs, then he hugged Kasey, that greeting was short-lived because Sam was still trying to talk to him. "Why are you here mum?" "I heard Kasey was sick." She blushed. "He's not, his eyes are, and they will fix them today." I hugged and kissed them both, well I only hugged dad. "Breakfast?" "I'll give you a hand son." So I let her take over the kitchen while I got Kasey showered. That was short-lived also, he was too sick to do anything much except let me blow him. I see a pattern here and I won't stand for it, when he was sick I did make a fuss, and he was waited on hand and foot because he was ill. But this time he has no case to argue, eyes lenses fixed, that was my positive argument because the alternative was too ugly to even think about. Breakfast was good, it's always good when someone else makes it, the kids had their toast and nutted out their weekend. Sam is going to be the tour guide. We cleaned up I dressed my boy and we headed out the front, there was a military van waiting for us with two kiddy seats installed. Mum said she will take the boys to McDonald's and they can play in the kid's area while Kasey gets fixed up. Kasey held my hand in the back seat and he didn't say much because he knew I wasn't buying his act. The doctor saw him and he asked many questions, I asked him how long it takes, and he said an hour at most. I looked at mum and rolled my eyes, not because of what was said it was Kasey who had to go and moan again. He was reassured by the nurse that everything would be okay and she put some drops in his eyes. He got up on a gurney and was wheeled away to a room I couldn't see. Mum had second thoughts about taking the kids for an hour or two, so we sat and the boys did some more planning and I think they were placing orders, like marshmallows, pizzas, and chocolate. The time went fast and Kasey returned, his eyes were red and I passed his sunglasses to him. I was also given an aftercare pamphlet and some painkillers. The doctor's visit was over and done with, and he went on to get his next patient ready, no fuss, no moaning as dad helped Kase walk down the hallway and out to the van. It was when I got in I let go, and couldn't stop laughing all the way home. He got his instructions and I put him to bed, he was not to exert himself or take those glasses off for anything, he was to rest. He requested a bell and I once again laughed. "Come on mum, I have a delivery to do." "Where are we going, son?" "Upstairs I need to drop two cartons off and grab some more." We did that job and she looked the flat over again and sighed at the spectacular clothes and jewelry, she wasn't wearing her ring today I think she saw the valuation and decided to put it in her safe. It will appear on special occasions. It was time for them to leave and for me to answer all the messages I had received, I looked at them, and essentially they were asking the same questions, so I sent a general one back to them all. 'Patient is resting after a successful operation, alls good.' Mick was the first to respond and he knocked on the door with a bowl of ice cream and bananas smothered in some chocolate topping. "He's in the bedroom." He smiled at me then he went to visit the patient, I followed and searched around the patient until I found his phone, then I took it and hid it in the kitchen drawer. "Adam, I needed some, my throat was sore and dry." "So why didn't you ask me?" "I didn't want to trouble you." "You will share that with Sam won't you?" "Of course, I will." "Sam, poppas got something for you." "Coming daddy." he squealed when he saw the huge bowl sitting on Kasey's lap. I laughed and then went about doing some overdue chores. I was reassured that everything went to schedule and his eyesight will return in a few days, and within a week he would be seeing perfectly again. After three days of putting up with his moods because he was bored, I packed up the car and took a trip to the cabin, he didn't argue. Donations are gratefully accepted by Nifty
