My old Pap could have plowed the field, planted the corn, harvested it, ground it and cooked it by now." Lizzie hollered through the stainless steel window. "Hold your horses. They are for old lady Mitchell. She said she wanted no lumps. I don't have lumps in my grits but I put hers in the blender anyway." Walter said. "You know she is still going to complain. She is also going to use two coupons that she got twenty years ago so just give 'em here." Lizzie said. "Yeah and she is going to complain her way down from a four dollar breakfast to fifty cents and then complain because she has to pay that." Walter said. "Just hand it here and we will get it over with." Lizzie said. "Yeah and old man Herndon will take it out of my check like he does every time." Walter mumbled. Somewhere in the smelly arm pit of south western Georgia, Walter stood looking through the stainless steel window out in the diner where he cooked. The order wheel only had one order on it but he watched Charlotte knowing that he had until a certain point of her conversation with the customer before he started their order or it would be cold. Lizzie was a large dark skinned lady that had been a waitress at the diner for over twenty years. Walter had been there for about fourteen years and had tried almost every day to get Lizzie to use her inside voice. The lady had some volume. Charlotte on the other hand was about as flaky as they come. Most customers never got what they ordered. Her mind was consumed with her lost Hollywood star status. A little over ten years ago Charlotte had a small part in a locally produced play in a town about twenty minutes away. After the show she was interviewed by the local television station. From that day forward she relives her stardom with every customer, every day. She never listens to what they order she just writes something down. Being such a small town, Walter knows almost everyone that ever eats there so he has learned what they really want regardless of what Charlotte puts on the wheel. Charlotte was about to the end of her story so Walter quickly prepared the order so it would be ready when she made it to the window. "I don't know what you think you are trying to pull Walter. I know that sales were up about three hundred over the week before but that is no reason for the food order to go up almost forty dollar. That's coming out of your check." Old man Herndon said as he stuck his head in the kitchen door. Walter did not comment because he had heard similar conversations every week for the last fourteen years. Walter grew up in rural Alabama. He was now thirty eight years old. His parents both worked hard their entire lives. His father worked in a cotton mill and his mother worked in a sewing factory. His father left at five a.m. every morning and got home about eight p.m. every night. His Mom left home at six a.m. and was usually home by four thirty p.m. His mother and father had saved their money for years. When Walter was in the eighth grade they moved from mill village housing to a small five acre farm just outside of town. Walter had two sisters. One older and one younger. Ann the oldest thought that she was swapped at birth in the hospital with one of the Fords, Kennedys or some other wealthy family. June on the other hand ran after any swinging dick that would get her off the farm. Walter had chuckled to himself many times that he had gotten the swinging dick more times before June married the guy than she did but her husband bought her a new double wide mobile home so she thought she was better than the rest of the family. Walter's father died when he was seventeen so as soon as he graduated he went to work in the same mill his father had worked for years. He kept his part time job at night at the local Dairy Queen. On his twentieth birthday his mother told him that the doctor had diagnosed her with lung cancer. Her funeral was two days before his twenty first birthday. Walter had given up his mill village row house and moved back in with his Mom to help her. When he got home from work the day after the funeral his sister Ann and her drunkard of a husband had moved everything that Walter owned out into the yard and moved into his Mom's house. His sister Charlotte had went to the bank and drained his mother's meager checking account. The two sisters had also filed for their mother's life insurance. With no help from them Walter worked for three years to pay the bill for his mother's funeral. His determination was for the memory of his mother and the other was that he suffered from a major crush on the funeral home owner's son all the way through high school. Though that never worked out he satisfied himself that he was able to suck the other boys cock under the bleachers at the football stadium after graduation practice. Walter's plan was to leave Alabama as soon as the bill was paid. He had saved some money and his Ford ranger pickup was paid for. His plan was to go to Fort Lauderdale and find a job. He had always heard that their were more gay men their than straight. His plans quickly changed when he stopped at this same diner to eat lunch on his journey. While he was eating a grilled ham and cheese sandwich old lady Mitchell, in her nineteen sixties tank of a Cadillac, backed into his truck. She hit it hard enough to tear up the grill, fender and one headlight. The Police chief was called and since Walter was a stranger the accident was blamed on him since the impact pushed his truck over the parking lot line. Judge Cromer was also the city judge so he fined Walter and also made him pay for the damage to old lady Mitchell's car. Needless to say Walter's savings were gone before he could even begin to repair his own truck. He found and old camper in a trailer park about two miles from the diner and was allowed to drive his truck that far. The diner needed a cook so he was hired the next day. The Mayor and the landlord had money taken from his check every week to pay all types of fines, fees and rent. The diner owner also took out a meal plan fee every week but Walter quickly learned that if he ate anything he had to also pay for that. Walter was a handsome man. With the strain on finances he walked to and from work every day regardless of the weather. It took six years to save enough to repair his truck. Now his main pleasure was to save all month and take one day and drive to a nearby, larger town to buy enough discount groceries to last him and a few dollars worth of gas in his truck. He stood just at six foot tall and weighed around one hundred seventy pounds. Walking kept his legs strong and moving cases of canned good and other things around the diner had kept his arms and chest fairly muscular. With limited finances meant limited meals so keeping his stomach flat was no problem. Walter did not consider himself handsome but had to admit he was proud of his lightly hairy chest and his firm, muscular ass cheeks. "Two eggs over easy, cheese grits and hash browns. Sometime today Walter." Lizzie hissed as she placed the order on the wheel. Walter snapped back to reality with the bullhorn voice of Lizzie coming through the window. "Fried egg sandwich, over well." Charlotte called out. Walter looked out the window to see the customer and knew that he had ordered two eggs over easy and dry toast. "You know Walter, I read the reviews from the latest play at the Fox theater in Atlanta. I guess they did not want a better rating. All they had to do was ask and I would have made sure the standing ovation would still be going on shouting my name." Charlotte said. "I'm sure they would have Charlotte. Their loss." Walter said as Charlotte continued to look towards the ceiling in her own dream world. "Meatloaf, green beans and mashed potatoes." Charlotte called out. "What the fu.... ?" Walter thought. Walking to the window his heart stopped for a second as he looked out to see who the order was for. Setting at the table looking through his log book was the reason Walter did not mind his walk to work for the last three years. Officer Brady Harbin sat at the table in his neatly pressed State patrolman's uniform. The man stood about six foot three. By Walter's guesses, Brody was with in two years of his own age plus or minus. Brody's large broad hands lay on the table. Walter always looked to see if he even had a shadow of a ring on it. Walter also swore a few times when Brody would stand to leave and adjust his gun belt that he could see the form of the man's cock and balls through the light blue pants that he seemed to pour himself into every morning. "LIZZY" Walter called out. "What is it ?" Lizzie asked seeming irritated. "Can you please go ask Officer Harbin what he ordered ? Charlotte came up with meatloaf and we don't even have that today." Walter asked. "Ain't my tip. Go ask him your damn self. Damn you Charlotte. You need to get your head out of your fucking ass and listen to the customers." Lizzie said as she took her plate from the window and headed to her table. "Lizzie look. They are having a casting call for a play in Macon. I need to check into that." Charlotte said oblivious to Lizzie's earlier comment. "I will buy you the damn bus ticket if you promise not to come back." Lizzie said as she placed the plate on the table. Walter took a deep breath and grabbed a mint from the bowl in the window. Approaching the table Walter almost lost his nerve. The man he approached just seemed to drip sex in Walter's mind. "Excuse me Officer Harbin. The waitress said you wanted meatloaf. I am sorry we don't have meatloaf today but I can use a burger and come up with something close." Walter said. "I have gotten use to eating whatever you fix when she takes my order. I asked her for a Spanish omelet and raisin toast. Oh and you know my names Brody so no need in the Officer Harbin bit." Brody said and smiled. Walter almost lost his balance when he saw the smile. Back in the kitchen Walter began to prepare a Spanish omelet that would make any famous chef jealous. The bell rang on the door drawing Walter's attention. Mr. Hinson walked up to the bar and looked towards the window. "What's the special for lunch today Walter ?" He asked. Mr. Henson was the largest farmer and land owner in the area. The town was founded by and named after his great, great grandfather. "Chicken fried steak with vegetables." Walter called out. "What is old man Ingram feeding his help today ?" He asked. "Grilled ham and cheese and a pickle spear." Walter said. "Cheap bastard. No wonder he has such poor workers. Guess he is doing better. He splurged for ham too. " Mr. Hinson said. "No sir. He brought me the ham, cheese and the bread." Walter said. "That will be a heavy meal. We got tobacco and cotton harvesting today." Mr. Hinson said. "One step ahead of you Mr. Hinson. I have thirty large burger patted out back here if you had rather have them." Walter said still paying close attention to his omelet. "Got chips ?" Mr. Hinson asked. "Got plenty sir." Walter said. "You are a God send Walter. twelve thirty good for you ?" he asked. "Yes sir they will be ready. "Order up." Walter called out. Charlotte was caught up in her article about the casting call that she had already read about ten times. "ORDER UP" Walter called out. Charlotte never moved and Walter watched his masterpiece grow cold. Out of the kitchen again he grabbed the plate and the coffee pot and headed to the trooper's table. "Sorry about the service today Officer .... I mean Brody." Walter said. "I have no complaint. Turned out much better than I thought it would." Brody said and smiled. As Walter headed back to the kitchen he heard old lady Mitchell at the register complaining about her meal stating the cook needed to be fired. "I saw that omelet. That extra egg and the tomato on the side is coming out of your check." Mr. Herndon said meeting Walter in the hall to the kitchen door. "Figures." Walter said. Mr. Herndon had installed cameras in the diner and the kitchen a few years back. He sits in his office all day watching porn. Walter is sure that Herndon uses the money that he takes from his check to pay for his habit so that his wife does not see it. Walter's day dream of officer Brody Harbin was crashed quicker than Charlotte's as the reality of his kitchen beckoned him. Lizzie and Charlotte had stepped outside to take smoke breaks. Brody had paid for his breakfast and though he gave Charlotte a tip he had given her another three dollars and asked her to give it to the chef. "Whatever." Charlotte said as she stuffed that tip money in with her own. After they returned inside Walter went out the back door with a cigarette in hand and sat on a crate in the alley. Holding the unlit cigarette, Walter heard some talking coming from the door across the alley. The voices got louder once the door opened. "So you will be done this week ?" Asked the young man. "Should be done by Thursday Mr. Hinson." The man said. "Good. Bring the bill to me, not the office." The young man said. "Will do sir. Hey Walter, how are you ?" the older man asked. "Good here thanks. Hope you are too." Walter said. "How are you today Luke ?" Walter asked. "Good here stud. How's it hanging ?" Luke said. Luke Hinson was the older farmer's son. He was in his late twenties and was another specimen of many of Walter's late night jerking fantasies. The guy was past hot. Most of the southern farm boys even made straight men drool. "Need a light there Walter ?" Luke asked as he adjusted his crotch almost in Walter's face. "Nah. I don't smoke but don't tell Herndon that. This is the only way I get a break." Walter said. "When I get my private office finished I may have to invite you in during one of your breaks. I got something you can smoke and believe me it needs no lighter." Luke said as he groped his package through his jeans. "I am sure it's too much for me to handle Luke so I will leave that pleasure to your wife." Walter said. "Hell if I waited on her to play with junior here he would die of old age." Luke laughed. "I am sure that she plays with it every chance she gets." Walter laughed. "Well I have two kids. I had to will junior to work those two times. She got what she wanted now I get all I want." Luke said with a wink. "Well Mr. Hinson my break is over. I need to get back and start on your helps lunch." Walter said. "Yeah I need to go out and decide who is paying for everyone's lunch today anyway. Oh, and you need to get a new cigarette. That one looks like it's at least two years old." Luke said as he stood and readjusted his package before leaving the alley. "Lucky bitch." Walter thought as he opened the back door and headed back inside. The lunch rush was slow but steady. At twelve thirty as normal Luke and a couple of the young, hired help, boys came through the door. "Order up." Walter called out. "I haven't placed my order yet." Luke laughed. "Your daddy placed that this morning sexy." Lizzie said as she walked past headed to the window. "Got my order ready Walter ?" Luke called out. "Bagged and boxed just waiting on you." Walter said. Walter felt a little bit of pre cum as he looked out and saw Luke smiling back at him through the window as he chewed on a toothpick. Luke was about six foot two with broad shoulders. His well defined farm muscles were clear to see with the tank top he wore. The whisps of dark chest hair shown over the top of the shirt. His hair was cut short but there was the always present ball cap. His deep blue eyes could coax any man or woman to drop to their knees and service him. The well trim scruff on his face seemed to beckon attention as he chewed on the small wooden toothpick. Herndon was quick to the counter to hand Luke's helper the lunch order. "How is the harvest going Luke ?" Mr. Herndon asked. "If weather holds out we will have a full week. Here's the money for the lunch and a tip for both girls and Walter." Luke said. Mr. Herndon took the money. He placed the tip money for Lizzie and Charlotte on each side of the register but added Walter's to the cash he was handed and put it all in his pocket. Luke started to say something but figured he would wait and ask Walter about it later. "Come on boy. Somebody has to work to pay for this lunch today." Luke said as he turned and headed out the door. Lizzie and Charlotte were both quick to grab the tip money left for them and put in in their aprons. The day got even longer when Walter was told that the second shift cook was going to be late. So instead of starting his walk home at four in the afternoon he would walk a little faster when he started out at six. Having to leave at four every morning to walk to work was beginning to take it's toll, but having to work even later made for a hurried night once he reached home. Walter had a slight happiness in his step as he walked home even though his body ached. "Today I was able to talk to trooper Brody and as usual Luke flirted with me and made me feel a little special." Walter thought as he began to speed his walk.
