Chapter 1.

country clubs down here and have heard that the `Thunderbird' is one of the

you to check it out and find out how to join. And if you want to join as

Carlton off and then head out. The girls are going shopping and maybe have

so, it went over very well. Mr. Collins, are you familiar with a chain of
restaurants in San Francisco called Blackford's? I am the Senior Executive
Chef and President with my father's Corporation."

or more of your restaurants in the City when I visit. It is always fabulous
and I have been to Le Belle d Paris several timed and it too is
fantastic. I heard about the party last evening and was going to come, but
alas, we had a large function here last night and I had to work." Robbie
said that he was welcome any time at all, as his guest!

Well, we would like to join your club here in the desert as would both our
father's. Daniel spoke up and said they were long time members of
Burlingame Country Club for well over 30 years. We live in Hillsborough,
but my wife and I and will most likely be down here a lot since our sons
will be living here part time.

Thom then spoke up and said he belonged to San Francisco Golf Club and also
were long time members of Burlingame CC as well. If we can fill out quick
applications for you so you can call and get references from the other
clubs, we would appreciate it greatly and we can also pay for the
membership fees today if that helps in any way. Also, both Thom and I would
like to play today if that is ok and get a feel for the course. This time
we would have to be supplied with clubs for the day if that is also
amenable?"

Fredrick handed the men applications and said they would have to be
approved by the board.  He then called Burlingame Club for references. The
call was fairly quick and he ended with a huge smile on his face. He picked
up the phone and called the President of the Club, who was in house at the
moment in his office. He was Paul Shaffer and came right down. Daniel
thought he recognized the name and a huge smile hit his face when Paul

of the world today? Sorry we had to miss the party last night, but we threw

join your club today. By the way, this is Tommy Gillman/Blackford, and his
Father, Thomas Gillman Sr. Tommy is my fairly new son-in- law who now
married to my son Robbie whom I think you have met before. They just bought
a house here and thought it would be fun to join as they will be living
here part time!"

Both Robbie and Tommy shook hands and said it was an honor to meet
President Shaffer.

"Fredrick, put them on the fast track and they are now full-fledged members
of our Thunderbird CC. We can pass the normal board inquiry, as I can vouch
for them whole heartedly. Anything they wantÉit's theirs! Waive all the
fees for now, we will bill them at a later date. I have known Daniel for
many years and believe me, he and the family will be a huge addition to
this club. Thom, it is great to meet you and Daniel it is always so good to
see you again. Let's keep in touch. Now if you will excuse me, I have a
meeting I have to join. Have fun this afternoon, after you finish your
round, we can meet in the bar for a drink!"

Paul left the room with a smile at seeing an old friend. Fredrick turned to
the men and said, "Let me show you around the Club and then we will get you
set up with anything you will need to use the course while you're here."

The club was quite impressive, with large rooms, a beautiful bar with some
tables on the side to play dominos. The dining room and spacious public
reception room looked fantastic and were beautifully furnished. The views
from every room were spectacular, looking over the golf course and the
surrounding gardens as well. The pool area and the Cabana, with outdoor
seating for dining, was set with tables for breakfast/brunch/lunch and the
tables were covered by colorful umbrellas. There was an outdoor bar set up
as well. They saw six tennis courts a sight distance away. They looked very
well maintained and busy.

They were then taken to the Pro-shop where they were introduced to Bruce
Jones, the Pro- shop Manager. He graciously welcomed the men and Fredrick
explained they had just joined the club and that Thom and Daniel wanted to
play a round today but needed equipment until they could bring theirs down
from San Francisco. The boys were introduced as well and everyone shook
hands.

Tommy and Robbie looked around as their fathers were fitted with clubs and
shoes. Both of the young men were impressed, but as they were not into
golf, they were joining for the social aspect and they might take up tennis
again, since they both played, although it had been awhile. Both Daniel and
Thom decided to buy clubs to keep here so they wouldn't have to lug clubs
back and forth. Daniel went for a set of Calloway, like he used at home and
Thom got a set of Taylor-made, which he used at home as well. They were
assigned permanent lockers in the Men's Locker Room. Thy were large enough
to hold their clubs and shoes with extra room for another set of clothes as
well.

The "Boys" headed back to the "Dads" and they were ready to go. Robbie
said, "Dad, we are going to head home for a while and maybe take a swim and
relax. When you finish playing your round of golf, give us a call and we
will come back and have a drink with you and bring you home."

Daniel replied, "It seems they are having a dinner dance tomorrow evening
here and we were thinking your Mothers would love to come dine and do some
dancing, how does that sound?"

"Sounds great. I think this was a wise move to join the club. It will be
good for business as well!"  The men hugged, the boys said goodbye and left
to drive home while the dads headed to the golf course.

Tommy drove and the pair chatted about the Club and how it would be great
to get out on the court to play again once Robbie's arm healed, of course,
and he was ready for that kind of movement. Robbie agreed, noting it would

this now and not before more time had passed and you were in the midst of
wedding planning. It would surely have been more painful.

I know losing a first love is always the hardest. I was in love with my

 "I am being driven in a car from the Club and Thom is ahead of us in an
ambulance. He was conscious when they loaded him in the rig. I don't know
how serious it is, but please call the Mothers and come soon."

He disconnected the call and Tommy looked at his husband with a puzzled
look. Robbie just said, "Darling we have to get to the hospital. Your Dad
has had a heart attack!" Tommy looked horrified and said. "Let's get some
clothes on and get going. Daryl can you drive please?"

Daryl immediately ran to get changed while Robbie called his Mom's cell
phone. When she answered, he tried to sound calm and explained to her what
he and Tommy knew. Tommy took the phone and spoke briefly with his
Mother. He suggested that she leave the car there. "We'll come pick you
up."

By then Robbie was nearly dressed so Tommy quickly tossed on a shirt and
shorts and they joined Daryl at the SUV. Robbie gave directions where the
Moms were waiting while Tommy located the hospital on his cell
phone. Kaiser Hospital was their next target.



Here ends the first Chapter of Book III and things are happening again. The
party was a smashing success. I am sure they will get rave reviews for
months. They join the Thunderbird Country Club and the Fathers had gone off
to play golf. The Mothers are doing some damage on their credit cards while
shopping and lunch.

Robbie and Tommy had a frank talk with Daryl and things seem better with
him. We just have to wait and see what transpires.

Then Thom Sr. has a heart attack and is being rushed to the hospital. The
Boys rush to be by his side. They call their Mothers to tell them the grim
news and asked them to leave the car parked and Daryl will pick you
up. What's your address?

families are safe.  Both Allen and I are fine! I know since the bars are

A dear Client of mine and very good friend are getting together for coffee
