I have always tried to make this as believable as possible. Portsmouth is where Victory is. And Southampton was one of the major ports for the invasion of Europe during WW 2, but not the only one. When we went to bed that last night, it was a really nice summer night. Warm, clear skies and light winds. Morning brought wind and very cold rain. I could not believe how fast the weather changed. All I wanted now was warm. "Take us out Jake. Get us to the warmth as fast as you can." "There is about a five foot swell in the Bay of Biscay. We could run on foils no problem. At max, we could be in Portugal in 36 hours." "Sounds good Jake. Make it so Captain." I laughed. "Aye, aye Captain." Jake laughed too. There was quite a crowd on the wharf as we departed for, what I hoped would be the last time in England. I hated the weather here. It could change so fast. Jake dialed in the course and speed and after clearing the breakwater, set the autopilot. Sandpiper took off like the greyhound that she was. Now back where I think even Sandpiper liked, we skimmed at 90 knots across the water. I left the bridge and went down to talk to my new crewman and Singh's new lover. "Well Jami, I don't think I even welcomed you on board. Welcome aboard Son." Thank you Ed." "Singh love you really know how to pick them. Jami you are a very good looking young man." "I hope Ed, I am not stealing him from you." "Jami, Singh's happiness, like all those I love is all I ever want. I still love him and now I will learn to love you to son." "I hope you will love me like Singh does in every way." He giggled. "Well that is up to you and Singh, but with five others who always want my attention, maybe I will have a break once, for a change." I laughed. "So what did you do before you came to Britain?" "I was a street boy. An untouchable." "Is that a class distinction Singh" "Actually Ed, they are more or less not part of any class. There are millions of what are called classless people in India. No one wants them and no one will help them. Jami was very lucky and now I am luckier still. I love him Ed. More than I have loved anyone else except you." "Well love, if you love him. I can do no less." I kissed both boys. I guess now both were my boys. Gary and Jer walked in and sat down so close to me I thought we were joined at the hip. I kissed both. "So where does everyone want to go, besides into the sunshine?" "Well everyone figures it's your turn Ed." "Well I thought if our Spanish friend wants, we could make a quick run to Morocco and then head down the west coast of Africa." "Cool, more black guys eh." Jer giggled. "You boys and in fact everyone on board are going to have to be very careful this trip. HIV is almost epidemic in most of Africa." "Yeah love. We know. Safe sex only." "Well why are we going then?" Gary asked. "Never been there love." After more discussion I checked the maps of Portugal. I told Jake to head for Porto as our first stop. Porto, being the second largest city in Portugal is almost always in a rivalry with Lisbon. Some of the buildings and museums date back to Medieval times, but the hotels and accommodation are both modern and comfortable. The huge marina we stopped at could have ranked with the best in world. The best part was the weather. Warm and sunny. I took my five boys on a three day tour in my jeep. Jake made sure everyone had time ashore, including himself. I was very surprised we didn't pick up another stray boy in Porto. There was definitely no shortage of boys for hire. Mostly they advertised as tour guides, but by the way they dressed, they obviously were selling much more than tours. Although my boys were definitely interested they decided I was good enough. The week we spent in Porto, gave us all time to readjust to the warm sunny weather. After careful consideration and looking at my late Uncles files, I amended my idea of heading down the west coast of Africa. He had only visited as far south as Nigeria. Considering that this was also an area where he was intercepted by pirates, I decided on a trip into the med and up to Nice in France. I figured we would head for Greece and Israel later. I really didn't want any more entanglements. Cruising south from Porto, we went back to the tourist mode. Travel during the day and stop each night in a bay or fishing village. Our next major city stop was Lisbon, Capital of Portugal. After our reception by the Portuguese Customs, I almost decided not to stop. They searched the entire yacht, for what I am not sure, but it was very thorough. They also made us tie to a buoy. They said they did not approve of our armed status, but as long as we did not dock we would be allowed to land. I decided Portugal was going on my list as not a place to stop in future. Fuck them, there were a lot of Ports we were welcomed with open arms. Jake contacted our Spanish friend and he agreed to take 12 more boys if we could get them. That pretty well chose our next stop. After just two days in Lisbon we left and headed south to Gibraltar and the med. Here we were greeted by warm days and sunny skies. Most of the crew opted for nude as the daily routine went back to normal. Jami was very surprised at my crew. It did not take long for him to adjust and soon he too could be seen walking around sans clothing. A very well hung young man Singh had found. I didn't as yet have time to take him up on his offer. My other boys kept me pretty busy in bed at night. I contacted the Arab in Morocco and told him I would take 12 more boys if he could arrange it. Same price quoted and he said he would have them in Port when we arrived. I had Jake put in around midnight. After paying off both Customs and the Arab, we collected 12 very good looking young black males. I was very surprised that Jake didn't use any of them. I guess the three he had satisfied him enough. I know my boys and Jerry and Andy both used a few of them on the passage over. I declined. I had my own to keep me company. It was very refreshing to see the young men adjust to our travelling so easy. Almost all were nude almost all the time. Made it very hard to concentrate. We made our delivery after dark again and our Spanish friend dropped us another 240,000 dollars. Damn my late Uncle really had a business going. My crew were very happy with the bonus. After spending three days and replenishing our tanks and refrigerators, headed north for France. The trip up the east coast of Spain was one of the most enjoyable we had. Warm water and sunny skies meant all the crew went around nude. Even Jake and I spent many hours working on our overall tans. Although I had always frowned on sex on the bow and stern decks, with the new screens aft I allowed the boys to do as they pleased. I did receive many blow jobs on the aft deck as did most of the crew. Although I never saw any screwing during the day, I did see many evenings some of my crew enjoying each other. The free and carefree love among all my crew meant there were never any problems. One evening in one of the many deserted bays along the coast I took Jami up on his offer. He proved to be as accomplished a lover as Singh and Singh even entered me as I enjoyed a long session with Jami under me. Their love for each other was almost a physical force between them. I am sure both could have at the drop of a hat gone down to the deck and made love. As with Gary and Jer, both were almost perpetually hard whenever they were near each other. During one of the many stops we made at fishing villages or small cities, Jake made a large purchase of snorkeling equipment. All crew took to snorkeling, like ducks to water. I decided that any of the crew that were interested, I would put them into a scuba diving course in Nice. It was not surprising that all of them wanted to learn, including myself. When Sandpiper arrived in Nice, we found several thousand Yachts and sailboats filled every marina in both directions along the coast. We ended up moored to a buoy in the bay. Sometime during one of Jakes visits ashore he was approached by the Organizing committee of the regatta that was starting in a few days, asking if Sandpiper would act as one of the control and rescue yachts for the races. He accepted and I readily agreed with him. Sandpiper was a very well known and very respected Yacht in most of the med. All of the crew were ecstatic at the prospect. The first day of the regatta was a windy blustery day with very choppy seas. The largest class of boats left for their three day run up the coast to Corsica and into the med. They would be gone for almost the three entire days of the regatta. The smaller classes started their races as well and many of the smaller boats had a very hard time in the rough water. Sandpiper and her crew rescued many of the young men and women from the water as their boats were swamped. The boys on board had no problem helping the young men, but were at a loss how to deal with some of the scantily clad females. Some of their antics were hilarious. Parties on board and ashore happened every night after the days races. Some of the rescued boys were more than just thankful of my crews help and I knew of many liaisons between these young men and my crew. The following two days were better with good winds and smooth seas. There were no problems for most of the last two days of the regatta. Sandpiper was just sitting in the bay. Nice just a kilometer away. Everyone was waiting the arrival of the big boats that had sailed off on the first day. Their last turn was about thirty miles due south of Nice. Sandpiper was almost surrounded by every size of boat. Two of her Kodiaks were already in the water. Jake and I lounged on the flying Bridge enjoying a cold beer. Simon and both Jer and Gary stood next to us. The beep of the weather radio startled Jake, but he just ignored it. The ring of the emergency phone caused him to jump out of his chair. "Sandpiper." He said into the phone. I just watched as he took the call. "Ed, two boats have collided at the last turn. They may need assistance." "Lets go Jake." I said without hesitation. He punched the intercom button. "Bring main engine on line. All hands prepare for foil borne." "Five Minutes Captain." I heard and then felt the rumble of the big diesel. "Auxiliary online Captain." "Get the boats away Ed." Jake said. I picked up the bridge bullhorn. "All boats veer off. Cut loose the Zodiacs. Prepare for high speed." I said. Looking back, I could see a flurry of activity on the aft deck. Jake moved the throttle to five knots and Sandpiper started to move. Boats were still trying to hook to Sandpiper. I had to order the boys to drop all lines as Sandpiper slowly moved through the hundreds of boats surrounding the harbor. Hoist our ensign." For the first time on Sandpiper I heard the foils being deployed. I knew the two big columns in my suite were the Hydraulic rams, but had never heard them before. "Foils in the green Captain." Came from the intercom. Engine in Five Sir." No fucking way could we go to foils with this many boats so close. "Sound the siren and go to ten knots." I said to Jake. With the siren blaring and Sandpiper picking up speed many of the boats veered off. "When your clear Jake take her to max." I ordered. "Yes Sir." I looked back at the stern. Both Zodiacs had been cut adrift. No boats were now attached to Sandpiper. "Clear astern Captain." I said. Jake hit both the high speed alarm and the intercom. Stand by for high speed." He said. "All in the green Captain came from the engine room." Jake shoved the throttle to the max. Sandpiper never even hesitated. She seemed to leap forward. If I had not been sitting in one of the bridge chairs I would have been smashed against the bulkhead. I could honestly not believe, even as I had witnessed it several times. Sandpiper just seemed to fly. God I loved her. The big US Ensign stood out alongside the smaller French tricolor. This was what Sandpiper was made for. Flying over the water. "Radar contact Captain." Gary said. "Three boats, no four now, course 178, to intercept." I figured they were the lead boats in the race. Jake adjusted his course. The sail boats came into view, their big spinnakers pushing them toward Nice. The Spanish boat was leading followed close by the French and then the American and British. They cheered as we swept by. "Radar contact Captain. Two boats very close together. Range 15 miles, course 180." "Stand by zodiacs," I yelled into the intercom. I watched as Gary Handed the mic to Jer and disappeared off the bridge. Gary was one of the best swimmers on board and I knew he always manned one of the Zodiacs. "Only one contact now Captain. Range 6 miles." I guessed correctly one of the big boats had gone down. Now either all the crew was on the other boat or in the water. The single yacht with a helicopter hovering nearby came up over the horizon. Jake waited until the last possible moment and pulled throttles to zero. He slapped Sandpiper into reverse. Christ she stopped in almost her length. Something I didn't know she was even capable of. Both Zodiacs were into water almost immediately. We had stopped about four boat lengths from the wallowing sailboat. After getting everyone of the surviving crew on board, Jake checked with the Captain of the Yacht. He said he could make it on his engine. Jake said we would escort him back. At a bare 10 knots we both headed for Nice. I headed down to the lounge to make sure everyone was okay. My crew had already got towels and blankets for all the soaked sailors. I saw who I figured was the Captain sitting by himself. I poured two big shots of whiskey into glasses and walked over to him. "Hi, I'm Ed Somers." I handed him the glass of whiskey. "Günter, Günter Proune." He said as he stood with his hand out. "Thank you, thank you, for all you have done Sir." He said quickly. "Can you tell me what happened? I know there will be an inquiry." "Ja. I think it was my fault. Coming up to the turn I was too close to the Maple Leaf and as I started my turn my stern tangled in the lines of the Canadian. It pulled her around and before we could disentangle she rammed our port side. She stove in the boat. Our main mast came down which just added more confusion. We were able to get along side her, but even with her extra pumps we could not hold back the water rushing into Wunderbar. I ordered the men to move us away and abandoned her. Thank god you showed up Sir." "I am glad we were able to get all your men picked up safely." "Yes, it is good." Then he laughed. "Another 2 million marks at the bottom of the Med." I escorted the German up to the flying bridge and introduced him to Jake. Surprised again as Jake conversed with him in German a few minutes. He then walked over and looked over at the Canadian boat. "She is a very fast boat and has a very good crew. She should have won." I looked over at the sailboat. "See look they are rigging a new main." Even as I watched a new main sail shot up her mast. The boat immediately heeled to the wind. Only a few moments late a new jib shot up. I felt Sandpiper increase speed and Jake eased her away from the big boat. "Magnificent. Magnificent." The German Captain said. "What are we doing now Jake?" "Almost 16 knots." "Mine Gut, That is not possible." The German Captain turned and looked at the repeater on this side of the bridge. The Canadian Captain obviously wasn't done. I watched as some crew manhandled a spar and a huge bag on the bow. "What's he doing?" I said. "He's rigging his spinnaker." True enough soon the huge white spinnaker with the massive red Maple Leaf in it's center billowed out and filled. The Canadian boat seemed to almost leap ahead and I was surprised when I felt Sandpiper ease up on her foils. "No boat can match her." The German Captain said. "She can't win." "True but she will still get points for finishing under sail. She will advance to the trial in Australia." "Hoist both Canadian and German ensigns Jake." "Aye, aye Sir." Both quickly shot up our flag hoist, the German remained at half staff while the Canadian went up along side the French and US Flag. Almost as soon as the two ensigns went up on Sandpiper the Canadian hoisted a German flag to half staff. The German Captain turned away. The cheering on the stern of Sandpiper told me the German crew had noticed the Canadian boat honoring their loss. "He honors my loss. I must thank him when we make port." "Onshore winds are picking up Sir." Jake said. We had moved off from the Maple leaf about 200 meters. I put the glasses on her. He main mast looked like it was bowing to the pressure of the wind on all the sails, but it looked like they were pulling the sails tighter. "What the fuck are they doing, that mast won't handle that much." I said. "She's pushing close to 21 knots Ed." "Mine gut, no one will catch her if she was leading. I have never seen a boat move this fast." It was also not lost on the two media helicopter overhead. Both had reported her speed to the waiting crowds. "Finish line, 6 miles Sir." Jer said. "Radar contact too Sir, almost too many to count Sir." "Captain, She broke a world record, will you confirm it?" "Damn rights." As we came up to the finishing line Jake had to slow Sandpiper. There were just too many small boats getting close. The Maple leaf continued on and a few minutes later I heard the report of the finishing gun. The Canadian boat immediately pulled her spinnaker down and slowed. She had to be surrounded by hundreds of small craft. As Jake eased his way through the boats at dead slow on his way to our buoy, a large boat eased up to Sandpiper, directing her to follow. We were led into the center of the Marina. When indicated by the large craft, Jake dropped our hook. Sandpiper was quickly surrounded by other boats. Soon after that the German crew were taken off and several race officials came on board. After congratulating us on our rescue and help, they got down to the real reason they were on board. Jake confirmed that Sandpiper had paced the Canadian boat for over five miles at a constant speed of just a hair under 21 knots. A speed unheard-of in boating circles. The Maple leaf had smashed the old world record by almost 3 knots. She was definitely a contender for the World Cup and the America's Cup next year in Australia. That was one race I would like to see, so I knew where Sandpiper would be next year. I had the crew rig awnings on both the bow deck and stern deck, for the inevitable parties that were coming. There had to several thousand people on shore and several hundred boats in the marina. The parties on the boat went on well into the night. I think I shook hands with a thousand people that night. I am not sure how many of my crew got more than just handshakes, but everyone had a great time. Things quieted down the next day as crews prepared to head home. I was able to go ashore with Gary and Jer. I went to the scuba diving school. Total cost to run everyone through the one week course, almost 15,000 Euros. After giving them my Amex card we just walked around enjoying the City. We stopped at the race Headquarters, which afterward I figured was a mistake. We were greeted like conquering hero's. After several drinks and another thousand handshakes, we finally able to leave. Later that night Sandpiper was able to get along side a wharf to refuel and water, plus drain our waste tanks. The scuba course went very well, everyone both enjoyed and passed. With everyone on board very good swimmers to begin with made it easy for the instructors. I also spent a shit load on scuba gear for Sandpiper. The break for the course and just lazing around gave us the break we needed. Jake and I were sitting, discussing our next leg of our journey when a very official looking gentleman asked if he could come aboard. It turned out he was with Doctors Without Boarders. "My Name is Doctor James Waterston, I am the French Director, for DWB. Is Sandpiper available for charter?" "Depends on what and where you want to go and when?" I said. "Well, there is a cholera epidemic in the upper reaches of the Niger River. I need to get several doctors and a bout a ton of supplies from here to there in the quickest time possible. Sandpiper is the fastest yacht anywhere and is capable of travelling up the Niger all the way to the problem area. You would only need to get us in, we would find our own way back." "When do you need to leave and how many are going?" "As soon as possible. I have 3 Doctors and four nurses, all male to get up there." "What do you think Jake?" "Well getting there is not a problem, getting up the river might be. Sandpiper draws about 4 feet of water on the hull and 2 feet on foils." "Then there is the countries we have to pass through. I'm not sure if our particular equipment would be very welcome, along with the fact that this is an American flagged Yacht." "Well I can arrange for Sandpiper to travel both directions. You would after all just be a transport carrying medical supplies and medical personal to the epidemic areas." "There is another thing you should know. Everyone on board the Sandpiper is Gay." I said. "I know and that is not a problem. I have already spoken to the doctors and nurses and they all agree that is not the least bit of a worry for them. We are authorized to cover your fuel and supplies, plus a sum of 40,000 Euros to pay for the Charter." "I'll discuss it with my crew. They all own part of Sandpiper." "Thank you." He handed me his card. After he left, I told Jake to recall everyone for a crew meeting. The following day I gave the crew the particulars of the Charter. All were enthusiastic. I told them all to check their immunization cards to make sure they were all up to date including cholera. Gary and Jer both needed to be vaccinated for cholera. I took them ashore while Jake called the Doctor and told him it was a go. They said they would come aboard with the supplies the next day. Well I guess I was going down the West Coast of Africa after all. TBC Comments Welcome suddar40@telus.net
