In no way is it actually intended to imply that the Backstreet Boys are actually gay or soap stars. BRIAN LITTRELL: A STORY OF LOVE Part 1: The Beginning Jake stepped into his hotel room at the Bellagio and put down his bags. He requested a non-smoking room, but somehow things got screwed up. All in all, he'd end up smelling like stale smoke. It was OK though because he wasn't alone. His friend, Eve, tagged along for reasons of her own. While he was experiencing the joys of Las Vegas' numerous roller coasters and theme casinos, she'd be shopping in all the luxury stories. Gucci, Armani, Versaci...all names that screamed class. She smiled to herself as she shut the door behind her and then took a whiff of the room. "You know, if *I* made the reservations we'd be in a suite," she bragged, making a face at the awful stench. Jake rolled his eyes at her remark. She always managed to say something that made it sound like she was a rich Beverly Hills bitch, when in fact they came from the same neighborhood. NOT Beverly Hills! "Listen," Jake started, "we'll unpack and then hit the Forum Shops at Caesar's." Of course this was Eve's plan again. She only hinted at it a billion times on the plane and through the airport. Jake would go along with it though, only because he didn't want to spend the rest of their Vegas days at each other's throats. Plus, it would be a good opportunity to people watch. Something Jake was always up for. *** The two entered the Forum Shops, and instantly Jake was happy. A smile crossed his face as he gawked at the many tourists in their tacky outfits. No matter what, Jake was always dressed to kill. Not necessarily in a suit and tie, but he continuously looked very clean and neat. He turned to Eve, who was already on her way into Armani. Jake rolled his eyes again and smiled. He wouldn't follow her in. Instead, he found a place against a wall and continued to watch the constant movement of traffic. His eyes focused on a young man, early 20's. He was wearing a baseball cap and thin rimmed sunglasses. Jake's eyes roamed the man's body. Something wasn't right about him. He wasn't a tourist and yet he didn't quite fit in as a regular. Still, he had an unexplained sexiness about him. This was interesting. The guy roamed the mall-like structure, only window shopping until he reached the Virgin Mega Store. Jake was close behind, forgetting that he left Eve somewhere on her own. She'd be fine, as long as her credit card was still good. The huge music/movie store was pretty full with people looking at this and that. Jake noticed at least 4 different cardboard displays advertising the 90 different boy bands that were so hot these days. He scoffed at one of the displays. "Probably something Dad puts out..." he said under his breath. Just because Jake was gay, didn't mean he had to fall over every time he heard one of them sing. "None of them are even that hot," he commented to himself as he passed another display. Wait. Jake stopped dead in his tracks and took a step back. He glanced at the display again. "OK, none of them except *that* one," he smiled and pointed at the one with the dirty blond hair, noting the name 'Backstreet Boys.' The name didn't really ring any bells or clang any chimes. He simply didn't listen to that kind of music. Jake shook his head when he noticed the boy in the hat and glasses again. He almost for got the reason he was here. The man had stopped, reading the track listing on the back of a CD. Jake inched his way over, pretending to be looking for something, when he felt a hand on his shoulder. "Where the hell have you been?" Eve questioned, with a stern look on her face, "I've been looking for you everywhere. You just up and leave me." Jake didn't really listen to what she was saying. He was still trying to get closer to the boy. Just one little bump into him and they could start up a conversation. His hopes were crushed when Eve spun him around. "Didn't you hear me? I'm done here," she informed Jake, "we can go back to our room now." Jake nodded and took one last look at the guy. This time, the guy smiled and nodded. That's when Jake's heart of steel melted. *** After dragging Jake back to the hotel, Eve collapsed on the bed. Her new clothes spread out all over the bed and floor, and was sound asleep. This was a shame since it was only 7:30. Jake looked around the room and out the window. Their room overlooked one of the four swimming pools owned by the hotel. Jake shrugged looking at the empty pool. "Why not," he said looking at the sleeping Eve, "It's not like I have anything else to do." With that, he changed into his swimming trunks and left for the pool. *** It was getting dark and Jake had swum the length of the pool about 100 times. It was refreshing since the weather was still so hot at almost 9:30 p.m. He swam one more lap when out of the corner of his eye he spied a young man, dressed in only his trunks, come around to the pool. This guy was nice looking. About 5'8", good build and nice face. Many Jake wouldn't retire to his room after all. This new guy didn't speak one word to Jake as he stepped into the pool and started paddling around. Jake stopped by the side of the pool and watched. He needed some way to get this guy talking. Some scheme to break the ice. "Come on," he said to himself, "you did this before to that really cute jock during senior year. That plan worked perfectly." Well, almost perfectly. Jake did make a good friend, but no BOYfriend. He scanned the pool area for something, anything, and found it. The man's towel lay very close to the edge of the pool. A smile crossed Jake's face as he eased his way over and out of the pool. Slowly walking over to his own towel, Jake "accidentally" kicked the man's towel into the water. "Oh man!" Jake groaned in fake regret, "I'm so sorry." The guy swam over to the sopping wet towel and lifted it out of the water. "It's OK dude," he said with a smile, "Just don't know how I'm going to get dry." They guy laughed a little bit, which gave Jake a good, clear green light that his plan was working. "Here," Jake extended his towel out, "you can have mine." The guy emerged from the swimming pool, his trunks clinging to his legs and giving Jake a good look at the shape of his penis beneath. "I couldn't do that. What would you dry off with?" he said looking at Jake. "It's OK because," Jake paused and ran over to a nearby lounge chair and back again, "I have two." The two laughed, and Jake noticed the man's great smile. His eyes were crystal blue and sparkled in the moon's light. "Thanks," the guy said, extending his hand, "Brian Littrell." Jake took his hand and gave it a firm shake. "Jake Douglas." The guy, Brian, looked at Jake as if expecting something. "Don't you know who I am?" he asked, in awe. Jake smiled and rolled his eyes. "Brian Littrell. You just told me...duh!" The two laughed again under the moon's glow, unknown to both that someone was watching from a high window of the hotel. To Be Continued...
