The guys push Bill out first and Bill makes his way through the guards, alerting them that the boys will be getting on their way now and to keep an eye on the crowd. As Bill reaches the gate, the guys begin to file out of the VIP lounge and make their way over to the gate and Bill. About three-quarters the way there, they get spotted and make a mad dash for the gate. Bill pushes each guy past and puts his body between them and the screaming tide of girls. Nick is the last one out of the lounge and gets overwhelmed by the girls as they swarm him, tearing at his clothes. Bill throws his backpack to Brian and tells them to get on the jet. Brian runs down the plank as Bill proceeds to wade thru the tide of girls. Less than gently, Bill throws about a dozen elbows and hip checks to the people in front of him, mowing them down, and reaching Nick just as a girl ribs his shirt completely off. Bill grabs Nick's arm and yanks him towards the gate, now protected by some guards and proceeds to push his way through the girls like a hot knife through butter. Finally, Bill pushes himself and Nick past the guards. Nick falls to the ground and Bill grabs him and fireman carries him down to the door of the jet. As they board, Kevin looks at Bill, who is breathing heavily and muttering a few obscene things about overly appreciative fans. Bill drops Nick into the first seat and proceeds to look him over, scowling at the scratches all over his chest and back. "Nick. Are you OK?", Bill asks looking at Nick's face, which was thankfully, scratch free. "Yeah. Bill....YOU'RE MY HERO!!", Nick laughs, and the rest of the guys begin to clap. "Yeah, yeah, buncha singin', dancin' comedians. That's what you all are. Ha Ha!" As if by magic, a first aid kit appears and Bill takes some cotton balls and soaks them into peroxide, and begins to dawb them on Nick's cuts. "OW OW OW!!", Nick yells, "Thanks for the warning!!" "Sorry", Bill replies, obviously not to repentant, "Be still a little while I finish these." Bill finishes cleaning out the scratches and then applies antibiotic ointment on the rest, then proceeds to take the medical tape out and make some large makeshift band-aids and apply them to some of the bigger, longer cuts. Nick whimpers and Bill looks up quickly and assures him he is almost done. "Ummm....Bill.", Kevin asks from behind him, "Where'd you learn all this from? My doctor isn't as thorough as you." "I got my B.S. in Exercise and Sport Science from GWU.", Bill replies matter of factly and finishes the last of the bandages. Bill then stands up and grabs his bag, pulling out one of his extra large shirts and hands it to Nick saying, "Here, put this on, Nick, we don't want you catching a cold here do we." "Thanks, Bill.", Nick replies, slowly easing into the shirt so as not to pull off any bandages. "So, guys, does that kinda stuff happen a lot?", Bill asks irritably, sitting down in one of the seats on the opposite aisle from Nick. "Yeah. Too often.", Brian replied, coming up to sit beside Bill as Kevin sat down next to Nick "Normally, we have to go to a doctor, but this time you fixed Nick up real good!" "No problem, I think that is one of the few things I remember from college. Bandaging wounds, writing phonetically, and giving deep tissue back massages. My parents would kick my ass if I ever said that to them. $80,000 for school and I can give a wicked back massage", Bill replied grinning. "Really?", Brian asked. "Yeah. It's a touchy subject with them that I am not using my degree now that I am a graphic artist.", Bill replied scowling. "No", Brian laughed, "I meant can you really give good back massages?" Nick and Kevin began to chuckle and Bill looked at Brian and shook his head. "Yeah. I can do massage too, In addition to mowing teenagers down like a John Deere tractor and fixing up wounds, I have a grip like a vice and I can give a good massage.", Bill nodded. "I'd love a massage after that show.", Brian hinted, giving Bill the big puppy dog eyes. "Me second!", Kevin called. "OK, but that's it, my hands are gonna be way tired after two people.", Bill replied laughing. Brian sat in front of Bill's seat on a pillow on the floor and Bill began to knead the muscles of his shoulder, really pressing his thumb and fingertips into all the nooks and crannies. "Aww...man", Brian groaned, "Wow, uh, that's really, eeeh, deep....ughh!" Bill continued to work down his shoulder blades and to each side of his spinal processes as Brian leaned further and further forward. When Bill reached the tops of Brian's pants, he stopped and pulled Brian shoulders back towards him, pressing his chest forward, and being rewarded by some nice popping sounds as the tired youth's muscles slowly turned to jello. Bill then began a two handed massage of Brian's neck, moving slowly up towards the base of his skull. He then placed his hand under Brian's chin and slowly pulled backwards, stretching his head back as far as possible before putting his hand to the top of Brian's head and with light pressure, stretching his neck through all 360 degrees of rotation. This action again was rewarded as Brian's neck popped audibly. Bill then began to work the area at the ends of the shoulder, lightly kneading his rotator cuff and then moving downwards and forwards to the top of his pectorals before finishing up. "Oh, wow, that felt so good. You are in the wrong business, Bill.", Brian stated, as he tried to command his now lax muscles to pull himself up. Bill stood up and pulled Brian up with him, gently placing him down on the seat nearest to the window. "OK, now relax and go to sleep, or this massage will have been all for no good.", Bill said sternly as Brian smiled and shut his eyes, easily complying with that order. "Your turn Kevin.", Bill said, squeezing his hands and popping his knuckles. "Are you OK? Did you wanna rest?", Kevin asked smiling. "That was quite a backrub. I've never seen anybody that get him so relaxed enough to let anyone crack his neck." "Magic fingers, I guess.", Bill chuckled. Kevin sat down in the place Brian had recently vacated, taking off his jacket and leaving his t-shirt. Bill began massaging Kevin as he had done Brian, though quickly finding Kevin to be much more tightly wound." "Kevin....relax!", Bill laughed, patting his head. Bill then grabbed his shoulders and began to slowly move them in a circular pattern, stretching them slightly as well as loosening up Kevin's back. Bill then proceeded to massage Kevin's upper arms and shoulders. As he did so, Kevin began to loosen up considerably, groaning periodically as Bill hit a tender spot. Bill would lightly work out the knots of the sore spots and the proceed upwards back to Kevin's shoulders. Bill then began again in earnest massaging the shoulders and middle back. As Bill increased the pressure and began to progress, he felt Kevin's body stress drop like a rock and knew he had finally broken through. Near the end of the massage, as Bill began to work on Kevin's neck, Kevin began to strike up conversation with him. "So, I heard you live in Chapel Hill? Is it a cool place to live?", Kevin asked. "It's pretty decent.", replied Bill after a few seconds, "The crime rate is low, and the summers are really quiet because the college kids are all home. The only time it really sucks is on Saturdays in the fall because of football traffic and having to dodge the drunk alumni on Franklin Street. I am thinking of moving away from NC to someplace warmer, tho. I think I have "done" North Carolina, and its about time for me to move on." "Really? Where are you gonna go?", Kevin asked. "I was thinking of Florida somewhere. I have been to Miami a few times and love it, though I don't think I can live there just yet. Maybe somewhere like Tampa or Orlando. It needs to be a city, I have had enough country.", Bill laughed ruefully. "Orlando is a pretty cool place, we all like it there.", Kevin nodded, "Just enough city, but not too far from the country. Why not Miami? I like Miami too!" "I used to vacation there with my best friend.", Bill shrugged, "We were gonna go to Art Deco weekend this year for a vacation over his birthday, but he died the week before of viral meningitis. I was kinda crushed by that and I don't think I could handle Miami....just too many memories of him there, ya know?" Kevin turned to Bill, watching as he wiped a tear off his cheek and noted the sad, mournful look on his face as he thought of the death of his friend. "I'm sorry. I didn't realize.....I shouldn't have asked...", Kevin stammered. "No, no problem, I guess I just really miss him. He was the longest friend I ever had. He and I met when I started working with him at the Hard Rock Caf‚ when I was in college.", Bill sighed. "I kinda knew he was gonna die, but I wished I would have known he was sick....I never got to say goodbye or tell him how much I cared for him." "You knew he was going to die?", Kevin asked questioningly. "Yeah, when I was a junior in college, in 1993, we all went to the Whitman-Walker Clinic to get HIV tested. The next weekend, on the night before we were to get our results back, we all went out and he and I had joked how we should not try to hook up with any guys there, in case one of us was positive. The next day we found out that he was the only one that tested positive. I don't think I ever cried as much as I did that night. I had him get re-tested to make sure it wasn't a false positive, and it wasn't. So, he lived for about 6 years after testing positive, I guess that's a pretty good run...I guess." "I never knew he was sick, and I found out that he died a week before his birthday when I called Hard Rock on his birthday to wish him a happy birthday. The manager knew me and told me personally what had happened.", Bill continued, tears running down his cheeks, "I didn't even get to go to his funeral. It was all over by the time I even found out. He was always there supporting me when I was having problems in college or when I was coming out to my friends and family, and the one time he probably really needed me to be there, I never knew....all because I moved away to North Carolina. I....I failed him." Bill brought his legs up to his chest and began to cry silently for a few minutes, then sighed and wiped the tears off his face with the back of his hand, then dried his face off with his shirt tale. He looked down at Kevin who had his head down, and realized that Kevin was crying still from his conversation. "Kevin...I'm sorry, I didn't mean to dump that on you.", Bill began, "I think this is the first time I ever told anyone what I was really feeling about his death." Kevin's head shot up and he shook it violently, "No no, don't apologize. I just got really wound up there. I don't think I have ever thought about any friends that close to me dying and it just kinda hit me." A chorus of sniffles snagged Bill's attention causing him to look left to Brian, who face was blotched with tears as he nodded his head at Bill and then right to Nick, who face was red and wet from crying as well. "I know one thing, though, Rick would not want me to be sittin here bringing you guys down talking like this. He'd want us all to be having a good time while we are together." "The past is history, the future a mystery, the time we have together is the most precious gift of all, which is why its called the present.", Bill stated, "I don't want to spend my time with you guys by having us all crying!" "OK.....fair enough!", Kevin said, brightening. "Nick? How are you feeling? How are your wounds?", Bill said, getting up and checking up on Nick. "They're OK, they're really sore, but OK. I am glad I don't take off my shirt during a show or it would look really bad!", Nick said, grimacing as Bill lightly checked his handiwork. "Kewl. We should be getting ready to land in DC here, so lets all buckle up and get ready for it.", Bill said. As he spoke the captain's voice came through the intercom asking that all passengers fasten their seatbelts for landing. That's all for this chapter, I hope to have more done soon.
