That is not is sole purpose and yes I do hope the sex sense makes you all hard and gets you off. Sol is an adaption from my childhood favorite show Captain Planet and the Planeteers, The cartoon showed us that the world can be a better place if we took a few moments to care for it. Tales of Sol is meant to express hope. It is also shows how music can have an impact in our lives. While I don't know if my favorite bands 98 Degrees, Backstreet Boys or Nsync have ever read this. They saw me through some of the hardest moments of my life and offered in their own way hope. To them I say thank you. I dedicate the Tales of Sol to all of my brothers and sisters of the US armed service past, present, and future. I like to thank my friends who I had the privilege showing these chapters with. They helped with editing and inspiration, John Rivera, Albert-Russ Alan Rivera-Odum, Derbe.D. Hunte Yvette Ortiz Samuel Diaz Jr for all their help in Making The Tales of Sol an enjoyable story to write. The Tales of Sol 44 A Learning Experience Brian insisted on coming with me as Frank dropped me off at Xavier School for Gifted Students As the security SUV drove us to the school Brian held my hand until we came up to the school's main gates we separated again so I could get out of the Tahoe with a quick kiss on the cheek Brian said, "Knock them dead," "Will do," I kissed back. I walked up to the door where I was met by a very attractive young man. "Hi my name is Bobby," He introduced himself "Mike," I greeted "Welcome to our school," He smiled warmly "So what's your power?" I asked "They call me Iceman. I am sure you can guess what I can do?" He winked "Well, you could have a really cold heart," I smirked "Nah, most people think I have a very warm heart actually," Iceman commented "I am sure you do," I laughed 'Boy was he a flirt,' I thought to myself but I was becoming way too attached to Brian Iceman escorted me to see, Professor Xavier Iceman kept looking back to make sure I was still there. "So what are your powers?" Bobby asked Causing a small gust of wind I picked Bobby up then let him back down, with a smirk, "That and so much more," He just looked at me with a shock. Before he could say anything we'd reached Professor X's office. Iceman opened the door where Professor X was writing some notes when he saw us he stopped. "Ah Mr. Pennock how good it is to meet you in person," He smiled warmly "A pleasure to finally meet you too Professor," I greeted back. "I will see you later Bobby," Xavier dismissed "Yes Professor," Bobby said and left somewhat disappointed that I was not going with him. "Mr. Pennock I want to apologizes for insisting you coming to New York," Xavier said "What do you mean Professor?" I asked "Jean and I felt your psychic screams when you enter New York," Xavier replied I was taken back since I didn't realize I had sent out a psychic or telepathic signal they'd pick up, but then if Gaia could it was not out of the realm of possibility for them to do so also. That left me wondering how many others heard it until I knew it was a mote point. "I accept, and don't feel too bad Professor, I thought I was ready for it, but I wasn't ready for the imprint left behind," I told him "That is astounding that you were able to pick up on it," Xavier complemented "That is but a small example of what I am capable of," I smirked "Impressive, Mr. Pennock I want to ask you something, from what I am hearing you've got to be one of the most powerful mutants, I have encountered" Xavier started "First please call me, Mike, second you want a sample of my blood, to see if I am really a mutant," I said "That was remarkable," Professor X commented "Not really I just figured that was one of the reasons you wanted to see me," I shrugged me shoulders "Well I would like to see just to make sure," Xavier said "Professor my blood is on file with the United States Navy I am sure you would have found a way to get you hold on it," I informed "Yes that is right you served in the Navy," Professor conceded "And furthermore don't you think that if I were a mutant the Government wouldn't have tried to exploit it somehow?" I asked "No I haven't thought about that," Xavier responded with a deep thought "Besides these powers are quite new and I mean I only received them when they came out of the ground up my arm and into my body while my eyes were closed," I reminded him "Professor I'm not a mutant I am something much more than that," I told him "What is that Mike?" He queried "I am the Earth's Champion albeit still in training," I told him "What does that mean?" Xavier asked me "Let me show you," I told him "How?" Xavier asked I held my hand up and placed it on Professor X's temple he backed away "I mean no harm, Professor but words aren't cutting it and your mind should be, able to handle a brief contact with what I have to show you," I stated as I closed my eyes and showed him in a flash of information I downloaded just enough that he would understand but not enough to overload him. Xavier blinked a couple of times as he let the information settle. "As I said I am not a mutant," I told him "But how?" He asked "The Earth, Professor is much more than nickel and iron," I told him "The Earth is a living entity with feelings of her own and when we are in trouble she will come to our aid in the form of heroes," I told him "But the Earth also needs someone to protect her from us," I informed "Protect the Earth from us?" Xavier inquired "From human carelessness and human destruction," I answered "Ah yes I see," Xavier nodded in understanding "I find it hard to believe but I can't deny what it was I saw either," Xavier confessed "I know most people wouldn't understand but God and the Earth have done more for us then we know," I stated "But what is it you want from us?" Xavier asked I could sense his uncertainty after all he saw. He seemed misgiving given the last time he faced a being as powerful as I and I didn't blame him. "Having powers is one thing it's learning how to uses them that make the difference as I know most mutants can attest to otherwise you wouldn't have built this school to help your students hone their gifts," I told him "I agree but it seem to me that you are mastering them just fine without our help," The mutant said "When I am not fighting I can control my powers because I am not worried about how much I am using at any given time but in combat or similar situation I am distracted and use a great deal of it which drain me," I told him I had to tell him about my experience at rescuing Jessica Simpson from the mad marine, to even protecting the Backstreet Boys from an unknown assailant. "In both instances I had to use a lot of power," I explained "So you need to recharge?" Xavier queried "That and I need to access my full potential," I told him "But if you have trouble in a fight with what you have now, what good will your full powers do?" Professor X asked "I don't know but our world needs its champion back before it is too late," I told him "Too late for what?" Xavier asked "I sorry can't say that secret is mine to know until the time is right," I declared "Very well Storm and Cyclops are holding a Danger Room session in five minutes lets see how well you can keep up," Xavier responded I was in the Danger Room with Cyclops, Phoenix, Wolverine, Iceman, Colossus, Rogue and Kitty. We were all in our respected costumes with me being in my Guardian uniform except without the cloak and hood. "In the fight you must be prepare to face the unexpected; danger can come from anywhere at any time," Cyclops began teaching "As mutants we must always be on guard," Cyclops stated "In this exercise we will be pitting you against some dangerous opponent so be on alert and protect yourself and your fellow mutant," Cyclops stated the walls faded away into an urban still setting we had building on one side and a park on the other. Out of the trees popped several mutants, some were spewing fire, others were throwing spike-like objects at us. And still others were changing shapes. We all got in a fighting stance according to our fighting style. Iceman was the first to do something. He held up his hands and formed an ice wall deflecting some of the incoming spikes, and causing some of the charging mutants to smash into it. Rogue took to the air, picking up one of the mutants and threw her into a tree. While Colossus turned his skin into steel and absorbed the flames. Wolverine went wild and sliced anything that got in range of his claws while Cyclops vaporized more incoming projectiles. Kitty would run through trees, come out the other side and tackle her opponents. "Can't let them have all the fun," I pulled out my Fighting Pike and got into action. I brought it around striking the nearest opponent and used it to deflect incoming spikes then I smashed one end into the holographic mutant in the jaw. Sending the fake man to the ground in what would have been a disabling blow. Iceman was being out flanked by two fire breathing mutants pulling out my D'k tahg I hurled it at one on his left. My aim was true if the D'k tahg struck the mutant's right arm and it was meant as a disabling blow not a killing one the pain caused him to back off giving Iceman the breathing room to defend off his advisory on his right. Rogue came up to me and said, "Sugar, you sure know how to fight," "I was taught by the best," I smiled as I jabbed my Pike at an approaching mutant catching it in the stomach making it cry out in pain finishing the move I brought the Fighting Pike around driving it into the fake mutant's chin. The hologram fell backwards into Kitty's arms as she let him fall. Rogue and I tag teamed a fire breather first with me dousing him with water from the river that ran in the forest and then Rogue picking him up and throwing him into a tree. One came at me so I took my Pike and began to spin it creating a gust of wind sending the approaching mutant companion behind him and they both ended up hitting a tree several yards away. This made the simulation to end the holographic mutants and with a moment to breathe I noted my energy level since I wasn't using my powers much they were pretty steady. The simulation brought out the next advisories three Sentinels they came out from behind the buildings firing several missiles, and metal spears I was the first to act this time I held up my hand using the magnetic properties of the metal spears to causing them to intercept the missiles annihilating them both. A missile came my way and a wall of ice formed in front of me. The missile struck it sending ice chunks in every direction I looked at my savior it was Iceman, "Thanks," I smiled I could sense some underling yearning in the mutant, "I owed you," He grinned Sadly I had to let him down,"I am seeing someone," I told him He deflated a little then went back to fighting the Sentinels. I knew he wasn't happy but at the present it was my least concern. As a Sentinel was taking aim at Cyclops and Wolverine who were busy fighting off a Sentinel of their own. I leaped in the way holding up my hands intercepted the incoming laser blast they ricocheted back at the Sentinel penetrating the outer skin. It exploded a moment later. "Thanks Guardian," Cyclops said as he blasted a Sentinel with his optic blast. An hour later we were all very sweaty and the Sentinels were sizzling metal shards. Holding my hand up I formed a single silver cross similar to the one I made for Jeff but this was different just because it was meant for Brian. "Mike, is there anything you couldn't do in there?" Cyclops asked "Not to be modest," I shrugged "Hey bub with what you did there," Wolverine said pointing back to the Danger Room. "What did you need us for? If you could do all of that, what did you need us for?" Wolverine asked "As I told the Professor having powers and learning to use them are totally different things," I answered as I finished putting several gems into Brian's cross "That certainly true," Storm agreed "Well I better get going I promise Brian I'd be at his practice when we got done," I told them we said our goodbyes I decided to walk back I needed to get over my fear and uneasiness when it came to New York, There hasn't been a city I've been to that I haven't been able to navigate they are all laid out similar enough that there was little difference between New York and Philadelphia except New York had more people. I was coming to an intersection when I heard "Sasha get back here!" I saw a little shih tzu come running down the sidewalk, her human companion, a tall dirty blond man with a scared and frustrated expression only a loose dog can inspire, running behind her. The little dog was about to run into oncoming traffic. I didn't even think twice. I grabbed hold of the nearest building, climbing above the crowd, propelling myself to the traffic light and just as the little dog was about to run into the street and right under a passing freight truck. I had my arms around the feisty pooch, and the two of us came back down. The dog quickly knew me as the champion and calmed instantly "I know those rats can be bothersome Sasha," I said to the shih tzu She yelped and began licking my hand affectionately, "But you need to remember to let them be," I said to the little dog "Thanks man," I turned to see man I recognized as Rob Thomas come running up "I take it Sasha is yours?" I handed the dog back to him "She saw," Rob blushed "A rat and decided to give chase," I finished "Yes, man I don't know what I would have done if she was killed," Rob gave his little girl a warm hug "It was my pleasure sir," I told giving the spunky dog a pat "By the way my name is Rob Thomas," He shook my hand "Mike Pennock," I introduced and shook his hand "Are you going to be around later?" Rob asked "I am staying with friends while I visit," I told him "Oh you are an outer towner?" Rob quizzed "Yes, I am due back in Philadelphia after my business is concluded here," I answered "I would like to thank you with a cup of coffee if you are free," Rob offered "I like that but no thanks are necessary just get Sasha home she has had a very exciting walk," I smiled "Please I insist," Rob didn't want to take no for an answer "I am expected to meet my friends however," I gave him my number and then said "I am currently staying with a group that are fond of the backstreets," Knowing exactly who I was referring to Rob smiled "I know those guys," "I look forward to your call," I said as we parted. I was coming up to the studio. When I was hit with a feeling of dread nearly half of the stray cats near the studio were up in arms. I quickly took to the roof and made my way to the studio. I laid down and looked over. Through the eyes of the stray cats I saw our shadow making his way to the studio. They could hear his harsh breathing "BEATTI!" I called into my combadge "Online," my computer said "The probes outside the studio," I spoke into my combadge "I am bringing them up now," BEATTI complied "Monitor and record," I demanded "Don't reply I need radio silence," I said A beep was the only reply. I quickly pulled out my cell phone and dialed Frank's number. "Mike what is it?" Frank answered "Don't let anyone leave the studio," I spoke frantically and quietly into the phone so as not to give away my location. "On it," Frank hung up I saw our predator as he rounded the corner walking menacingly towards the studio. My sensitive hearing picked up the cocking sound of a gun. "This hot head really needs to cool down," I murmured. As the Shadow walked passed a fire hydrant I just looked at it, and its cap shot off. Water under pressure jetted out pushing our predator back several feet. As water continued spraying, the Shadow slipped and fell on his ass. The water pressure forced the Shadow to roll back some more. The Shadow scrambled to his feet so he could try to get out of the way. When he ran past the next fire hydrant I did the same thing and another blast of cold water helped to hurry him down the sidewalk. Every hydrant on this road further encouraged him that he needed to leave. "One down side to cities is they can create their own wind tunnel," I smirked as I used the breeze that rushed through the skyscrapers to further push the predator away. When he finally took the hint and ran in the opposite direction of the studio. When I was sure it was safe I climbed back down to the street level. Kneeling down to several stray cats. They nuzzled my hand "Thank you my little friends," I thanked my furry friends with a pat on the head, and a grateful pet along their hindquarters. They all ran off when I got up to pull out my phone again "Frank it is safe the danger has passed," Frank and Tony both came running out, in a very frantic voice "Mike what the hell?" Tony was the first to say something "Man was in the Forest," I said the line from Bambi. "Here that bastard," Frank growled "I was alerted to his presence by some concerned citizens," I told them making reference to my alley cat friends "With the noise in there we would have never heard him coming," Frank said "Did you get a good look at him this time?" Tony asked "No, before he could even get close, several fire hydrants seem to have receive a sudden surge of water pressure and sprayed him down," I told him pointing to the hydrants still leaking water albeit slower than a few minutes ago "And you know how the wind get in these cities," I smirked "The smoggy part or the wind tunnel?" Frank asked "That wind tunnel effect is both unpredictable and forceful," I smirked We turned to enter the studio "Is it safe out there?" Kevin asked "For the time being," Frank said "Yes it was funny how a couple of strays can cause such a ruckus," I stated "and the city really needs to look at those fire hydrants they are under a great deal of pressure," I quirked "Well I am hungry," Nick complained "Nice to meet you Hungry I am Mike," I held out my hand to Nick The young singer took a look at my hand for a moment until it came to him. Nick laughed when he took my hand, "Very funny man," we shook hands. Tony called for a lunch break but to keep everyone safe he had food delivered to the studio where both Frank and I waited to ensure it was safely delivered. When everyone grabbed something Brian sat next to me "Hey Mike how was school?" Brian inquired "It was very educational," I smiled "Learn anything new?" Brian asked "Not much today it was just a get to know you day, and just seeing what we can do on a basic level tomorrow we will get into the nitty gritty," I answered As we ate, my sensitive ears heard a cat crying out in terror, I closed my eyes and listened. The cat was trying to get away from danger, but a couple guys thought it was funny to taunt it. I put my plate down "Mike what is it?" Brian asked as I moved towards the door "Here kitty, kitty," I heard in a menacing tone, through the cat's ears as I came out into the alleyway I saw two neanderthals cornering a stray cat. One of the jerks sneered, "Yeah fuzz ball," while the other bully maliciously snickered. I came up to them in time to see the stray cat on its back claws out as it tried to fend off the two bullies. "One less stray on the street," the jerk on the right brought up his foot and went to stomp it when I grabbed him by his collar. "Pick on someone your own size," I growled as I threw the bully to the ground. Bully number 2 snickered, "It is only a stray fuzz ball," as the bully made to kick the cat I stepped between him and the cat. Striking with the heel of my hand I caught and struck the bully in his chin. Because the jerk was in mid kick the bastard lost his balance and fell on his sorry ass. Jerk number 1, the one who's collar I grabbed got back on his feet and lunged for me, I ducked his fist and delivered my fist into his stomach, I came up and uppercut him in the jaw. Sending him flying into a pile of garbage bags. Jerk number 2 tried his luck again and the bully charged me. Doing a round house my right foot made contact with his chin and he went spinning into the air. Jerk number 1 tried again charging at me as soon as the bully was back on his feet and a swift ninja kick and my foot smashed into his face. He went flying three feet backwards right next to his friend. Both bullies now bloody and filled with rage both charged me again this time. I ducked the first fist, and dodged the second following through. I struck them both in the gut with my own fists. As they both knelt forward I grabbed both bullies by their collars and threw them both into the closest dumpster. "This is where trash like you belong," I heard a round of applause as I turned my back on them. I saw that Brian and the rest of the Backstreet Boys along with the rest of the studio had followed me out. I was so focused on the rescue that I didn't even know I had witnesses. Before I could return to the practice session I had one last thing to do. I moved back to the badly injured cat even from here I could see my rescue had come too late. I knelt down, putting a gentle hand on his battered body. Broken beyond even my powers to save. Stroking the cat's ruined side I tried to offer what comfort I could give. I could feel life leaving his body. "It is okay little one," I petted his head, as he purred. Putting my hand under the cat's chin and turning its head towards me. Making sure the last thing this poor boy saw was me smiling at him. The cat let out one last very low and very weak meow, closed his eyes, and let out one last breath. "You have been avenged," I spoke to it gently, putting the cat's head back down on the ground. I felt a hand on my shoulder "Mike?" I heard Brian softly "I am so sorry, little one," I spoke softly. Gingerly I got up to finally acknowledge that the whole studio had come out to witness my fight. Clearing my throat, "My humblest apologies," I said. The two bullies were being hauled off by security and into the hands of waiting police officers who were apparently called in. The officers cuffed the bullies and the two jerks were soon taken away "That was incredible," Brian awed. He never left my side as we made our way back towards the door "Not enough though," I said looking in the direction of the now dead cat. "How?" Brian asked "I could hear him calling for help as those two animals tormented it," I told Brian "But my aid came too late to save him," I sighed "Do not think it will not receive justice," I heard a rotund woman with dark brown hair in a very fashionable pink suit came up to me Indicating the buffoons being hauled away,"Those two Drew Sacks and Jeff Riviera both, work for this studio, and they had a reputation of picking on the some of the staff," The Manager stated "I can now add animal cruelty to the list of charges," She told me "Margret Shooster, I manage this studio," She introduced herself "I have already called the humane society they are coming to retrieve the poor thing," As everyone reentered the studio Brian pulled me to the side and gave me a comforting hug letting me cry into his shoulders. Pulling away and still holding my hands softly Brian spoke "Mike, the last thing the cat saw, was you smiling at him," Brian pulled me into a hug again as he tried to help ease my pain, "The last thing it felt was your hand on him offering him comfort," "He died in peace, not in torment, that alone is something," he kissed my tears away "Thank you, Brian," I whispered Brian was called back to the studio, and when they began to practice, looking directly at me Brian, started to sing 'The One' as part of the practice. I sat there listening to them perform when Tony and Frank came up to me "You okay?" Tony asked gently "Sorry didn't mean to add more drama to an already dramatic moment," I apologized Shaking his head to wave off my apology "Don't apologizes, you really kick ass out there," Frank said "Life is life," I told them "All I wanted to say is I am glad you are on our side," Tony smiled "Yes, after seeing you fight, I know I never want to get on your bad side," Frank chuckled Practice ended as we got into the limo Brian took hold my hand I smiled, "I am feeling a little better," I told him "I just hate seeing cruelty in any form," I told him "That is why I am falling for you," Brian whispered into my ears as the limo drove off. AJ and Nick kept commenting on how I kicked bully asses, Kevin kept eyeing us Brian as he held my hand offering me support. I decided to talk with my other boss via telepathy "Gaia I've met my other half and you were right we were meant for each other," "I am glad he is a good man with strong morals and a big heart," I heard "You did well Nexus," she told me "I failed," I responded telepathically "No, you didn't," Gaia projected "I couldn't save that poor thing from its tormentors," I wept "You couldn't have saved his life those bullies saw to that, but you did take a stand for him," Gaia reaffirmed she tried to instill wisdom on my already broken heart "You fought those bullies, and at the very end you offered him peace and comfort," Gaia said. I still felt for the poor cat who did nothing to be tormented Gaia seem to pick up on it "The fight is not what matters, it is the reason behind it, that makes all the difference," Gaia counseled "Gaia, why haven't I received my full potential?" I asked "There is still one more thing that must be done before you receive Sol," Gaia told me "What do I have to do?" I asked "You will know when the time comes for now just sit and enjoy your friend's company for Brian isn't the only one you are relying on but each and every member of that band," Gaia told me "Mike, are you listening?" I finally heard Nick trying to get my attention "Sorry Nick my mind had wondered," I blushed "I was wondering about that fight?" Nick inquired about why I fought a bunch of bullies over a stray cat. "What about it?" I responded "I was just wondering why you fought it?" Nick asked Howie just looked at Nick with an incredible stare "Are you kidding Nick? Even I could see it," Howie commented "Really?" Nick quizzed, he was intrigued at what the others thought. "Yes, Mike only did what anyone, should in a situation like that," Kevin stated "But it was just a cat a stray one at that," Nick said "So if you saw a person beating up a homeless man you wouldn't step in?" I turned the question on Nick "I," Nick caught himself that brought him up short "Defenseless is defenseless and those animals got what they had coming to them," I growled "I was just wondered," Nick spoke softly "I heard his cries," I started welling up again, Brian quickly pulled me into a hug comforting me, "I heard him begging for help, wanting nothing more then to make his attackers stop," I spoke "I heard how those jerks, they thought just because it was a stray it was not worth the fur on his back," my voice hardened "All life is worth defending," AJ stepped in "And I want to add watching you kick their ass was actually worth the interruption," AJ smiled Shaking my head in difference, "I took no pleasure in it I can assure you," I told them "Don't take pleasure in kicking a bunch of bullies in the ass," Brian said gently but got a bit more firm when he remembered the battle and seeing the tears in my eyes. "Take comfort in the fact you stood up, and defended someone, and that cat left this world knowing someone thought it was worth fighting for," Brian said The rest of the ride was uneventful as we talked about the upcoming concert. When we got back to the hotel Brian came to my room and asked "Are you going to be okay?" "I will be Brian," I reassured him "I wasn't kidding Mike," Brian moved closer "I can see why Jeff fell for you," he kissed me I accepted the kiss and returned it we pulled each other closer he pulled away "Seeing you at that moment," he kissed me again "Was both amazing and loving at the same time," Brian said between kisses. "Thank you, Brian, it means a lot," I said in between our kissing and I pulled away and laid my head on his shoulder bringing a hand to the back of my head he whispered "I love you," "I love you too," I whispered back as he comforted me. Looking down from the ceiling was Gaia as she watched our budding relationship returning to Hope Island giving us privacy she just stopped by to look in on us. "I will see you at breakfast Brian," I told him "I can't stay the night?" Brian pouted "Let's take this one step at a time," I offered "You are right," Brian groaned "I am not going anywhere Brian," I smiled "You better not," Brian warned as he left Nick waited for Brian to come in "Well?" he urged "Well? What?" Brian asked back "You said you were just going to see how Mike was holding up," Nick grinned "He is holding up just fine," Brian replied nonchalant "Come on Bri, you know you want him just tell him already," Nick urged "I don't think I can come close to the love he has for someone else," Brian said "Who could that be?" Nick gasped "I don't know but I get this feeling that he is keeping something from us and he has greater love for this something," Brian said as he crawled into bed.
