"Are you okay?" Bobby asked, "I didn't think you were afraid of flying."

"That was before I could fall to my death." I frowned, "So, how's Katia?"

"Katia is great. She stayed back and babysat." Bobby smiled, "How's Connor and Raiden?"

"One hates me and the other can't stop trying to apologize." I explained, "I miss the Institute."

"You can always come back." Bobby said, "We miss you. It's not the same these days."

"Nothing is the same these days." I frowned, "Sometimes, Bobby, you can't go back."

"And sometimes...you have to." He said placing his hand on mine.

I smirked, "This is the first time in a long time that we have actually had the time to talk and it feels like...like it used to." I chuckled.

Bobby stared ahead and I looked too. Scott was at the controls, staring back at us. Everyone else seemed to be otherwise engaged, but Scott looked away quickly and went back to the controls.

"Will you excuse me?" I asked, standing and walking to the co-pilot's chair, "It's not what it looks like."

"You sure? It looked a lot like..."

"Scott." I moaned, "If I marry any X-Man, I think we both know who it'll be."

"That's...oddly comforting." Scott smiled, "Are you sure you're up to the wedding?"

"I'm not sure I'm up to waking up." I said, causing him to look over to me, "But I do it. For me. And I'm going to Wakanda to celebrate a wedding! Storm's been more than a guiding force to me, she's turned into family. Hopefully, this will ease the tension between Cap and Ironman."

"I wouldn't get my hopes up." Scott said, "I'd say it'll do little more than pacify them."

"Battle's really heating up, huh?" I asked.

"It really is." Scott said, "You know we're already on the list."

I looked at him, "Not me." I said quickly, "I made a deal..."

"How?" Scott asked.

"Not important. What is important is that we stay strong." I said, "This is Ororo's big day. I'm happy for her."

"You're right." Scott smiled.

Chapter 97: Nuptials

I went to the wedding in beautiful Wakanda and it was more than nice. It was so refreshing to see, actual love. Stable love. Love that was pure from lies and...it was easy. Storm looked beautiful and it was all seamless. I was shocked when both Ironman and Captain America showed up. It was very tense, despite all the love. I couldn't help but sneak peeks at Scott.

"Forbidden fruit." Emma said.

I sighed, "You know, Emma, I was totally wrong about you." I said, "I thought you were a skank before. Now I know you're a skank."

(Skank)

"Listen, he's your husband. That makes him off limits." I frowned, "Until he dumps you."

"What makes you so sure that he will dump me?" Emma asked coyly.

"The fact that you're an underhanded, conniving bitch doesn't help." I said quickly, "We're done, you should scoot."

Emma gave me a distasteful look and stormed off to Scott.

"Do you think it is wise to make her angry?" Ororo asked, walking up behind me.

"O!" I said happily, hugging her, "I'm so happy for you!"

"Thank you." Ororo said, smiling all the while, "I was wondering if you would make it."

"I wouldn't miss it." I smiled, "Especially since the 2nd Civil war is spilling out..."

"I know." Ororo said, looking around, "I had hoped that all the tension would have been extinguished."

"It's not over til it's over, O." I said, "The war's going to get worse before it gets better."

"It always does." Ororo said, hugging me again, "Be safe, Pane."

"You...You..." I stuttered as I droopily fell to the ground.

"Pane, are you alright?" Ororo asked, startled.

"Yes." I said quickly, "I need to talk to someone."

"Yes, of course." Ororo said quickly.

I walked back until I found Nightcrawler, "Blue boy, I need your power." I frowned.

"Come again?" Kurt asked.

I hugged him, "I need to get back to my friends." I said, "Do it, please."

"Alvight." Kurt said, teleporting us away.

"What's going on?" Perry asked as we all sat around the conference table, "You called this meeting and you still haven't said what about."

"It has to be important to bring you all the way from Wakanda." Max said.

"We have to stop her." I said quickly.

"Her?" Connor asked.

"Well, not her exactly." I frowned, "There were these flashes and I saw Jean Grey, resurrected."

"And that's a problem?" Raiden asked.

"It is because it's not Jean resurrecting herself, it's Sinister and he's using uber-tech."

"He's going to run tests on her?" Connor asked, lost in thought.

"That's an underestimate." I frowned, "He could clone her...again. He could change her brain patterns. He could make her perform tricks in the circus, but there's more than one problem with that."

"He'll have the Phoenix at his disposal." Connor said, finishing my thought.

"The idea gives me the wiggins." I said quickly.

"How do we find them?" Raiden asked.

"How do we find them? How about `how do we stop him'?!" Melissa asked.

"Won't be a problem." I said angrily, "We have to stop this from happening. I love Scott. Scott loves Jean. This thing happens and Jean comes back all wrong...it might break him."

"So this has nothing to do with her being your competition?" Connor asked.

"Connor." Raiden warned.

"That wasn't okay." I frowned, "Jean was...she was more to me than competition."

"Sorry." Connor said, "But that brings us back to how we go about finding her."

"We could wait until...she's...ya know, alive again. Or use the X-Men." Melissa said.

I shook my head, "More like no! They're on Wakanda, having fun for the first time in who knows how long. If I concentrate really hard, I can find him." I explained.

"Sinister? How?" Connor asked.

"My little bit of telepathy. It'll drain me." I said, mostly to myself, "But it's our best shot."

"You're still a telepath? I thought your powers went poof." Melissa asked looking around.

"I've been regaining." I said, "I think my powers are coming back."

"So, you're going to be uber-powerful again?" Melissa asked.

"And unstoppable." Connor added.

I looked to him, "I'm stoppable. I stop." I said.

"How do we start this mind search?" Melissa asked, "Anything we can do?"

"Candles. Nice quiet environment. Did I say quiet? I mean dead silent." I reiterated.

"Right, I have a couple of candles." Melissa said quickly, jumping up and running to get some candles.

"Everybody else...quiet." I said quickly.

-

Somewhere in the secret Sinister base...

"You have brought me the DNA of Jean Grey. I'm thankful, but why are you helping me?" Sinister asked.

Mega smirked, "It's all coming together." He said.

"You speak in riddles." Sinister frowned, "I had such great hopes for us."

Mega stared at him for a second, "I have done all that I must. He will be coming any second. Raise her before he comes." Mega said, turning into dust and dissipating into the air.

Sinister walked over his complicated machine and began punching buttons in a sequential order and put his hand to a lever, "I will harness the power of the Phoenix." He smiled, pulling down the lever.

I caught his hand, "Am I too late?" I asked, punching him in the face.

"He said you'd come!" Sinister shouted.

"Did he also tell you that I was going to kick your ass?" I asked.

"He said a lot of things that didn't make sense." Sinister frowned, wiping blood from his mouth.

"Too bad, if you were at least a portion human, you'd be kind of hot." I said, kicking him in the gut, "And you have some seriously bad shark teeth."

"What do we do?" Connor asked.

"I'm on it." Perry said, heading to the control console.

"Bones of Jean Grey," I said backhanding Sinister, "You're a total science perv."

"Dad, I stopped it." Perry said.

"Dad?" Sinister said with a surprising amount of optimism.

I tilted my head his direction in time to be his with a concussive blast. It rocked me to the floor and Connor was about to go after him, "Let him go." I said, standing, "He'll pay for that one day."

-

I stood by Jean's grave, wondering what could have been. Jean was one of the most generous, selfless people I knew. All the X-Men were. But Jean had this amazing power and she barely realized it. I found myself wondering what the Hell this life was about when good people couldn't stay, couldn't do anything but die.

"I stand out here sometimes too." Scott said behind him

"Really? Do you ever wonder how?" I asked.

"How?" Scott asked.

"How you're still alive when she's dead." I said quickly, "I'm not pretending that I knew her so well that...I'm just sayin, someone so good deserved a better send-off than she got."

"You left the party early." Scott said.

"Call me selfish, but watching someone get something I'll never have got me a little emo." I lied.

"You'll find somebody some day." Scott said.

"I'm not sure I'm ready to find it." I said indifferently.

"Since you lost your powers, you've been...different." Scott said.

"I think it started earlier than that." I frowned, "I think it started when I found a clone living my life."

"He wasn't just a clone. He was you. Made from you." Scott said.

"Do you ever miss him?" I asked.

"Sometimes. I think he didn't know what he wanted and you do." Scott said.

"Huh?"

"He didn't know if he wanted me or if he wanted something different. He settled." Scott said.

"You're not...you're not my safety plan." I said, "I just know you're meant to do more than be my lapdog."

Scott looked at me oddly.

"Sounded so much worse aloud." I frowned.

"So, now that we're not in Wakanda, we go back to the real world. Superhumans are locked in a battle for rights, Mutants are almost extinct, and..." Scott said.

"...And Mega's takeover of the world is almost certain because I can't destroy him." I said, "Not without my powers."

"Whoa, are you thinking of repowering yourself?" Scott asked.

"I have been for a while." I said bluntly, "I'm not me without my powers. I see that now. And if my powers are the only thing that can stop him, I've gotta bite the bullet."

"You're a brave guy, you know that?" Scott asked.

"Yeah, I do." I smiled.
