My boyfriend Kal was spending time in the Bay Area interning at a software company as part of his fellowship; we spent hours calling each other when we had free moments. Telling each other as much as we could about our hookups. He spent a full night getting railed at the SF Eagle before going to work the next day, followed by an orgy after working a full day while hungover. I loved that he was having fun exploring his sexuality. I was also his watchful eye when it came to his family. Occasionally we'd have Sunday dinners at Mohinder's condo, with my Mum in Connecticut, it made sense for us to meet closer to campus. Kal's dad and his brother, Siddh, were getting used to the dynamic of our weird blended family, and expected us at the doorstep when it was their turn to host. They also seemed to love my other boyfriend, Richie/Dig. Dig was a hot headed baseball playing himbo frat bro from Bayonne, always ready to fight while being extremely possessive. But Richie... Richie was the respectful and doting boyfriend that parents dreamed of. My Mum warmed up to Dig, my Dad cooked dinner with Richie; he also had inside jokes with Mohinder. Dig and High were best friends; even Cory liked him, and he hates everyone! It was as if my boyfriends perfectly curated a life for us that I could easily enjoy. The Friday before Spring Break was the day of the Spring Fling; a mixer for all Greek houses to dance, drink, and flirt. I remember watching, and helping, the guys get ready during my senior year of high school. Brothers were running throughout the house fighting for showers and sinks to get ready, the smells of various aftershaves and colognes mixed, and random speakers blasted playlists in every room. When we were all in the parlor for our pregame shot and beer combo, the house president gave us three rules. 1 - No hooking up with girls from Psi Theta Psi. 2 - No drama or fights with Omega Gamma Mu. 3 - No drinking inside the event (we were mostly underage and didn't want to risk trouble). After agreeing to the rules, we took our shots, downed our beers, then let the pledges clean up before we left the house. "Ready for the big night lil bro?" Sean asked me as we walked down the sidewalk behind Dig and Scooter. "You know I am," I responded. "Been on my mind all week." "Feels like prom night though," Scooter turned to face us. He wasn't wrong, with the dress code being semi-formal all of the guys were in suits and the girls were expected to wear dresses. "Did ya get laid at prom?" Sean asked him. "I wish!" Scooter whined. "Don't worry," Dig spoke. "I'm sure Baby Bro will help you out after." "Always tryna pimp me out," I joked. "You're lucky you're cute." "I'm fucking adorable," Dig reached for my hand. "Besides, you can't leave a bro hanging!" "Bro code is law," Sean seconded. He ran off to flirt with a girl as soon as we arrived at the Arts Center. I saw some of our brothers talking to each other and random members of other houses. Dig went off to grab drinks for me and Scooter. The tables were covered in cloth with decorated seats, the DJ booth was on a stage, and everyone looked like they spent a decent amount of money to look good for this one night. I was happy to show off some of my dance moves for the guys, before having to turn down a few girls. Even though I had a "reputation", some of the girls still tried getting in my pants. I made sure that Scooter and I talked to people that we didn't know, wanting to make sure that we stepped outside of our little bubble. I was also surprised to see various queer couples holding hands and dancing, and shocked when I saw Miller ask Scooter for a spin on the dance floor. "Hey Captain," Brett stood behind a chair at the table Dig and I were holding down for our group. "Can we talk?" "I don't talk to Omegas," Dig crossed his arms. "What about teammates?" he watched Dig, waiting for a response. He sat when my boyfriend pointed to the seat that he was standing behind. "Can we talk alone?" "Either talk or leave," Dig's Bayonne accent came out. "Fine," Brett rolled his eyes at me. "Just wanted to say that I'm sorry." "For what?" "For everything," Brett looked everywhere but Dig's eyes. "For your shitty performance at practice this week? Or for cheating on my brother, YOUR TEAMMATE, with another teammate?! Or for lying about being a legacy at the Omega house? What about the way you treated my boyfriend who was nice enough not to tell me everything? He spared your life." Brett's mouth was wide open, no words came out. Dig was really putting him on the spot. He knew how my boyfriend was, The Hound who pounced. He shouldn't have been surprised by any of this. "For... For all of it," there was a plea in his eyes. "I shouldn't have done any of it." "Then why did you?" My boyfriend asked. "Legacy," Brett shrugged. "My Dad, my brother, the Omegas. It means everything to them." "You can't let that shit get to you," he leaned forward. "I've told you a million times: a good player uses a clear mind." "I know. I know --" Brett tried to interject. "No, you don't," Dig stopped him. "Otherwise you'd have told me sooner. You wouldn't have broken my brother's heart. And you'd have a better batting average." "I'm sorry Captain," he looked down. "I expect 25 laps before practice tomorrow morning. Got it?" I think this was his way of letting Brett attempt to redeem himself. "Yes Captain," he started to rise from the chair. My heart got the better of me, forcing me to get up and chase after him. He seemed sad, and I wanted to know why. To try helping him with whatever made his eyes look that way. "Hey!" I tapped his shoulder while he leaned against a bar table. "What do you want?" he grunted when he saw that it was me. "Are you okay?" I was genuinely concerned. "Come to rub it in?" He pulled a flask from his pocket. "Rub what in? I'm worried about you." "Worried? Why?" He drank a swig. "You got my boyfriend, and my captain. Why don't you take Marcus and Tucker too?!" "What?" I leaned on the table facing him. "What are you talking about?" "Marcus dumped me last week after I came out to Tucker," he drank some more. "Said he didn't want anyone knowing about us." "And now you're having to deal with your ex being your roommate and team member," this sounded familiar. "And a pledge," he raised his flask. "That's gotta suck," I responded. "Nah. What sucks is knowing that my brother now hates me. Threatened to tell my parents," he drank again. "That's their problem, not yours," I told him. "You'll be okay." "What makes you so sure?" He looked at me. I could smell the whiskey he'd been drinking. "You've got your team," I reminded him. "Richie might be pissed at you for what happened with Scooter, but he's still your captain. He takes care of his guys." "Why are you being nice to me?" He questioned. "Because I don't want my boyfriend to kick you off his team," I answered. "Come with me." I brought him back to our table and made him sit with us. He was too drunk to be left alone. Richie shrugged it off then thanked me for watching out for his teammate while the others looked at me like I was crazy. Of course I broke a rule, I allowed myself to get involved with an Omega. Sean couldn't decide if he was proud or angry, and walked away right before Tucker came to the table to take him home. I'm not sure what Richie whispered into his ear, but Tucker shook his hand before escorting his brother and a girl out the front door. Immediately after they left my boyfriend started kissing my neck, tickling me, in between whispers of appreciation.
