Just keep yourselves safe." "I sure as hell hope we can stay safe. Let's head out guys." We got back up the street to our houses without further incident. The fact that Dana ghosted us in his car might have had something to do with that. After we had breakfast with Karls family and we had showered, I went out into Karls backyard to think. Each one of these attacks had only been harrassing in nature. The last two could have damn well been more serious. So it seemed that whoever this was didn't really have it in for me,or that he was trying to psyche me out. Try as I might I couldn't think of anybody who had a grudge against me. True Scott Clay wasn't happy about Larrys death, but I hoped Micah had taken the wind out of that particular set of sails. Dirk and his crew had seen the light so I didn't really think there was anything there to look at. Karl came out at that point and started to massage my shoulders. "The police will figure this our love." "I hope to hell so. Is there anybody that you can think of that might be holding a grudge?" "I've been racking my brain for the last 5 days Den and I honestly can't think of anybody." "I wonder if the fact that the attacks have been every other day might be significant?" "You mean like whoever it is has something that they have to be doing every other day?" "Yeah, it could be signficant, but if it occured to me I'm sure it's already occured to the police as well." "Well at least we should be safe for the rest of today and tomorrow by that way of thinking." "Operative word there is should." "You're going to worry yourself sick love. Why don't we take a drive or something, get away from the house. Every thing that has happened has happened within a few blocks of here afterall." "I suppose it couldn't hurt. Any suggestions where?" "Yeah, something we haven't done since you woke up." "Well that leaves things wide open. What have you got in mind?" "I'm betting you remember pretty soon after we get on the road." "Fine, let's get then." We went over to my house and got the Triumph out and we hit the road. I followed Karls instructions and then I did realize where we were going. "Harrisons?" "Yeah. We haven't been riding since you woke up. Should be just the thing to take your mind off of all of this bullshit." About 45 minutes later we pulled into a parking lot and then walked up to the stables. We were in luck as it seemed they were just forming up a ride. The guy who seemed to be in charge gave us a look and then did a double take. "Well look who the cat finally dragged in. Dennis ,Karl, haven't seen you two in well over a year now." "Mr Harrison, yeah it's been a while, but I'm guessing you know why." "Yeah I heard about it. Sorry for ya young man." "How's everybody doing?" "Family is fine.....matter of fact, Cameron! Bring out two more!" "OK Dad!" Cameron, the name brought to mind a skinny as a pole kid. What came out of the barn with two more horses was a ripped teenager that I wouldn't have recognized but for the face. When he saw Karl and me his face lit up like a christmas tree. "Dennis! Karl! Damn it's good to see you guys." I just stared for a moment. "Damn Cam you done filled out!" "Only because of the encouragement you guys gave me. I worked hard at it and it paid off! We'll talk later. If you don't hurry you'll miss this ride." "Damn right we will." With that Karl and I both saddled up and fell into line with the rest of the riders. It was a slow walk along the beginning of the trail. The wooded trail was peaceful and calming. About 15 minutes into the ride the horses started to perk up a bit and I remembered that we were coming to the part of the trail where we we allowed to galllop for a bit. Almost at the exact spot that I remembered the lead horses took off and all of the rest were right behind them. The gallop lasted for about 5 minutes and then as if on cue they slowed down again. We were passing a fair sized lake at this point and we rode along the shore for a fair bit before we turned into the woods once again. It was another walking section and we soon enough came to another galloping section of the trail. We looped around and started back along the trail in the opposite direction and repeated the sections. It was about an hour all told and I was feeling fairly relaxed by the time we got back to the coral area. We walked the horses to cool them down a bit and the next ride was getting formed up so we waited. "Damn it's good to see you guys again. I know what happened Dennis and I'm sorry." "Thanks Cam. But look at you! You could be the cover on a health magazine." "Yeah you two told me I could make myself look better and I did what you told me. Changed my eating habits and started working out. It took me damn near two years but it was worth it. You wouldn't believe the attention I started getting....from both sexes. But I took your advice there as well and I'm still looking for the person that sets my heart on fire." "Glad to hear you didn't let things get out of hand. "Yeah I'm glad I listened to the all you had to tell me Den. So,next fall I'll be off to state as well" "Well at least you'll have friends there, for a couple of years at least." "I think I'll appreciate that as well. You two still on track to get married?" "We're working on it Cam. Dennis just has to make up his mind as to when." "You may not have heard that I had amneisia. I just got my memory back a couple of weeks ago." "Damn I didn't hear that. Kinda explains why you haven't been out in a while, and while you're both still single." "Yeah that about sums it up." I wasn't going to put a damper on things by telling Cameron about all of the troubles I had been having. They were for me to handle. We talked for a good 45 minutes until the next batch of people started arriving for their ride. Soon enough Karl and I were back in the Triumph and headed home. I pulled the car into the garage and we went into the house. "Karl, there's just one room left for me to check and it's going to be awkward for me and down right embarrassing for you, so why don't you head home and I'll see you in a couple of hours for supper." "You sure love?" "Yeah it's going to be strange enough for me to be going through my parents dresser drawers." "Yeah I suppose it is. Ok, I'll catch you in a bit." I made my way to my parents room and started going through the dressers. Do you have any idea how wierd that felt? Especially when I got to my mothers dresser. A little over an hour later and I had nothing to show for my efforts. I once again headed into the closet and started going through the pockets of all of dads suits. With the exception of some assorted change there was nothing here either. I even went through the pockets of whatever outfits of my mothers that had pockets. Still there was nothing. It looked like Sunday was going to be a day of frustration as I waited for the office to open on Monday morning. I made my way over to Karls after making sure to lock up. When I walked in Karl was standing there. He took one look at my face. "There is no joy in mudville I take it?" "Didn't find a thing except a total of maybe a bucks worth of loose change. That just leaves the office if the lawyers don't turn up something. I don't think tomorrow is going to be a very good day." "We'll think of something to take your mind off of things love. Maybe Mr Bellows will be able to make it easy on us." "We should be so lucky. I've got a feeling that this is going to be a long drawn out search. I don't think anything is ever going to be easy again." "Ok that settles it. We're going out tonight and I know just the place to get yor mind off of things." "Oh?" "We're going to Club Mann." "The hell we are." "Why not Den?" "Because neither one of us needs to be tempted and the last time I was there didn't turn out all that well did it?" "Yeah but this time I'll be with you and we can take our temptations out on each other." "I suppose that would make a difference, but I'm really not in the mood lover." "I can damn happy well see that Dennis, and maybe you really need to be. What can it hurt?" "Karl, I said NO!" "Well fine than." Karl turned around and walked away from me. The only other time he had ever done that was when I had told him about joining the frat. I got up and went after him. "Karl, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to yell at you." "I know Den. I just don't know what to do to take your mind off of this situation and I can see that it's tearing you up." "Only thing that's going to take care of that is finding out who is behind all of this ." "And they will love. I have no doubt. Maybe Dana was right and they screwed up using those squibbs and they can be traced." "Maybe. If you really want to love we can go out somewhere tonight, just not Club Mann." "We could always catch a movie." "I haven't really seen anything worth going out for, not for what they're charging for movies these days." "How about we go to the arcade?" "We're getting a little old for that aren't we?" "We could always take Bobby." "We could but what if the yoyo breaks his pattern and tries something? I won't put Bobby or anybody else in that situation if I can help it." "I guess you have a point there. Still we can't become urban hermits either." "True enough. We'll go out tonight and maybe this guy will break his routine and give us something to hang him with. I sure as hell don't want this following us back to campus."
