Seems you just can't stay out of things. The District Attorneys office would like you to come by on Monday afternoon and give a deposition about the bank robbery." "I can probably manage that." "Good here's the address and the office number and phone in case things change." "So is this open and shut or do I need to worry about a subpeona?" "It's as sure a thing as it can be. They had the money on them as well as the contents of several of the safety deposit boxes. Facial recognition software has already matched them up to the security tapes. This is as airtight as they can get." "Good to hear. My life is complicated enough." "Have a good weekend Mr Sawyer." I went into my room and checked my email and there was still nothing from the lawyers. I surfed for a while and eventually the 11 pm messages were exchanged and I crashed out. 5:45 and the alarm on the phone was going off. I rolled out of bed and was soon outside ready to do our laps. We soon enough had those taken care of and showers taken. I went down for breakfast and was soon joined by Karl. "So, what are we up to today?" "Heck if I know." "Hit the gym and the pool?" "We could I suppose. Oh before I forget, I may not be around right when you get out of class tomorrow. I need to go by the District Attorneys offce and give a deposition about the bank robbery." "They can't force you to do that you know." "I know, but it is my responsibility as a citizen to do it." "I know, just saying. They going to need you for the trial?" "Doesn't look like it. The dectective that delivered the message said it was an open and shut case." "Yeah uh huh. Those are the ones that drag on for years." "Maybe, and if that's what it takes then I guess I'll just have to accomodate the state." "Just so long as those guys end up with state accomodations I'll be happy that you don't need to be looking over your shoulder for them." "Thanks for putting that thought in my head Karl." "More than likely you won't have to worry about that for years love." "Unless they make bail." "Dennis.....shut up and eat your breakfast." "Yes dear." When we finished breakfast we walked for a bit before heading over to the Rec Center. We changed up and went and did a full workout in the weight room and then made the rounds of the other equipment as well before we headed for the pool. Several laps later and we hit the whirlpool for a bit before showering up and heading back outside. "So now what? We still have the afternoon to kill." "We could always see what's playing at the theatre." "Things are getting pretty sad if a movie is the best we can do Karl." "Well we could always go over to the frat and spend the rest of the day in your room." "We haven't spent an afternoon in bed for I don't know how long. Of course the guys will give us all kinds of shit about it." "Yeah probably, but do we really care?" "Nope." Without any further discussion we headed over towards the frat. Things were pretty quiet when we got there and we only spent a few minutes socializing with the guys before we headed upstairs. Once we were in my room we didn't waste a whole lot of time. Needless to say a few hours later and we were pleasantly exhausted. We eventually made out way back downstairs and spent a bit of time with the guys and then we headed back to the dorm for dinner. We had our walk and good night kiss and I went to my room. I surfed for a while and while I was in there I set my news feed to watch for anything about Mercer and Prescott College as well. The 11pm messages were exchanged and I was soon asleep. 5:45 and the week began again. Laps were run, showers taken and breakfast eaten and off to class. With as much reading as I had done before coming to school, the classes were starting to get tedious, well except for accounting. That was finally done for the day. I dropped off my books and headed for the car and checked it over. Soon enough I was on my way and found the right building for the District Attorneys office. I found the main receptionist, told her why I was there and she directed me to the proper office. I got to the right office and was shown in promptly. "Good afternoon Mr Sawyer, I'm Assitant District Attorney Blasdel and I'll be taking your statement today. Please just start with why you were at the bank and go through to the end where you spoke with the officer. I'll have it typed while we wait and then you can sign it." "Good afternoon sir." I then proceeded to give as accurate account of the events as I could right up until the point that I spoke to the officer. "That was very detailed Mr Sawyer. You have a very good eye." "Just paying attention Mr Blasdel." "Like you did at the gymnastics meet this weekend?" Now I was very wary. What had the District Attorney had to do with the meet? "Relax Mr Sawyer. Your involvement in the gambling case is minimal at best. It is an ongoing investigation and I'm just curious how you happened to catch on to what was happening." "Once again I had my eyes open. The gentelman I was paired with is an old high school team mate. I knew he wasn't performing up to his abilities. I found a way to mention it to my coach and then I spotted the guy in the bleachers on his cell. The guy was too old to be a student and for him to be on his phone in the middle of the meet seemed odd to me. I mentioned him to my coach, who recognized him as someone banned from sacntioned meets and the rest as they say is history." "Well it's not my case, but I do try and keep up with what others are doing. You might well be called to give a deposition for that as well." It was only a few minutes later that my typed deposition was brought in and I signed it. "Thank you for your cooperation Mr Sawyer." "Not at all. I just hope you don't need me for anything else." "We shouldn't but do have your contact information should we need to reach you." I started out of the office and did notice that Mr Blasdel went for his cell phone. Soon enough I was down stairs and did a quick check of the car even though it was in a secured lot. I headed back for campus and for whatever reason kept my eyes open. The same black car seemed to be taking every turn that I did. Oh yes the back of my head was sounding alarm bells good and loud. I started taking random turns and the car stayed right with me. I managed to get the license number I put my foot into the accelerator and made a couple of corners and then pulled into an alley and watched as the car went on by. I pulled out of the alley and made my way back to campus. When I hooked up with Karl I told him about the whole thing. "Shit shit shit! Are we going back to looking over our fucking shoulders all of the time again?" "Only if that car shows up again. I have the license and I have Detective Martins card. I will be more than happy to drop this all in his lap. Now what do we want to do for supper?" "Given what you just told me? I'm all for staying put and going down to the cafeteria." "Fine by me." Aiden, Gordon, and Pete ended up joining us and it didn't take Pete long to realize something was bothering Karl. "What gives Karl?" "We're back to paranoid again." Pete looked at Karl and then looked to me for an explanation. I gave him the whole rundown on my afternoon. "The way that DA asked about the meet was too damn casual now that I think about it. Then him making a phone call right as I was leaving and then that car. Easy to see why I'm on the defensive right?" "Well, I can't say as I blame you but what are the chances?" "Not great I suppose but not zero either." "So then who do you trust?" "That's the real question isn't it? I hope to hell I can trust Dectective Martin. I'm going to wait a couple of days though and see if anything else turns up." "That doesn't sound like you Den. What are you thinking?" "Not thinking anything Gordon, just a feeling that there's going to be more to it than just that car." "Then that calls for all of us to keep our eyes open." "Sure as hell wouldn't hurt." "Starting now?" "No time like the present as they say. If Blasdel is up to something it wouldn't be a problem for him to pass the info for where I'm living or anything else for that matter. Now I'm going to ask you Aiden, Gordon, not to jog with us in the morning. In fact I want you the three of you to have as little connection to me as possible. That way you can hang back and watch my 6." "Damn Dennis really? You think somebody has it that bad for your skin?" "I don't know Pete, but that damn car just after leaving the DAs office isn't likely to be coincidence and I'd rather be safe than sorry." "So you said you had the license number of that car. What are you going to do with it?" "Give it to the one person that I really do trust." I pulled out my phone and sent a text to Dana Pembrose. It was only a few minutes later that my phone rang. "What kind of trouble are you in now Dennis?" "I'm hoping none but I want to try and be sure. Can you run a license for me?" "Give me the number and I'll run it tomorrow when I get to work." I read off the number to him and gave him the whole story. "Damn it boy I keep telling you that you should go to the academy. I'll see what I can find and call you tomorrow afternoon. Is there a good time?" "Tomorrow is Tuesday so between 1 and 4 should be good." "Ok Dennis. Try and stay out of trouble." "I should be so lucky. Thanks Dana." I hung up. "So Karl, take our walk?" "Yeah I suppose we should stick to our routine. If somebody is watching you no need to tip our hand."
