Karl was there a few minutes later and shortly after we had our supper and got things cleaned up . "So, how are we going to kill the weekend Den?" "Well, I suppose we could spend it all in bed?" "Something we haven't done in ages." So we shortly went to bed and cuddled for abit. Neither one of us seemed to be really enjoying ourselves as we were way to wired with what might happen. Saturday morning dawned on us and we were both more tired than when we went to bed. "It was a good idea lover, but we are both to worried about things I think." "I'd have to agree with you Den. How's it looking out front?" "I don't see anybody by the gate. Want to give jogging a shot?" "Yeah we haven't been in several days." We got changed up and headed out. The guys in the police car gave us a look as we took off around the block. Karl and I were both keeping a good look out for anything unusual. We finally completed our laps around the block and made our way back into the yard. There was plenty of open space and I did a run up and a tumbling run across the yard, while Karl kept an overall eye on things. "Clearly you're hoping to get back to it soon lover." "Does it show? If we don't get back to it pretty damn quick, we could very well lose the edge we had before this all started." "Yeah I know love, and not all of the people you'll be going up against have been restricted likely." "Precisely. I just wish I could find a way to do more, but the next nearest facility is like a hundred miles away." "Not something you could do every day but the weekends are doable." "If even they would have me, which isn't rock solid." "Yeah I suppose not. You going to do a little more or are we getting inside?" "Might just as well get inside and get cleaned up." Which is what we did and then grabbed a bit of breakfast. The idea of spending the weekend in bed was put aside without a whole lot of conversation about it. It was just before noon when my phone rang. It was Gordon. "Just a heads up for you Den. There's been a major break out from the dorms." "Any problems so far?" "Not that I've seen from my window. We're staying in just to be on the safe side." "Good choice. Keep me informed for as long as you can." "What? You think they'll cut the cell and internet service?" "Always a possibility Gordon. Best give your folks a call and alert them to the possibility as well." "Yeah I suppose. Later Den." Paul called not much later. "Students are hitting the street Dennis. Can't say as I'm surprised." "Neither am I Paul. I heard from Gordon a bit ago and they're planning on staying inside." "Sounds like a good idea, but damn it I need some sun." "Well just be damn careful and keep me informed." "Will do on both counts." "Ok later." "So what are the reports lover?" "People have had enough and are outside. Gordon and Aiden are staying inside, but Paul at least is heading out for some sun. At this time things seem to be peaceful." "But now that people are out and about you're expecting something to happen." "That pretty well sums it up lover. Depends a lot on just how the college responds I'm thinking." At which point my phone rang again. The caller ID simply said Evans. "Mr Sawyer, I presume you know what is going on at campus?" "Yes sir I have been called." "None of your doing?" "No sir. I advocated a quiet weekend to anybody who would listen to me." "I expected as much. Now, what do you think we should do about it?" "Well sir,I'd let it go for right now, but try to get them back into the dorms by dusk. It let's them blow off a little steam, which if I am any judge, is sorely needed at this point. Hopefully that will lead to a quiet rest of the weekend, although I would expect the same tomorrow." "That seems to be the general concensus of the board of governors as well. I don't know what influence you may have Dennis, but I'd appreciate it if you could see the word spread that there won't be any repurcussions for the breakout as long as things stay peaceful and people are back in the dorms by dusk." "I'll do what I can sir." "I can't ask for more than that Dennis and thank you." Dean Evans hung up and I quickly dialed Paul as he was the one who had decided to go out. "Hey, I just got off the phone with Dean Evans. Spread the word that there won't be any repurcussions for the breakout as long as things stay quiet and people are back in the dorms by dusk." "I'll get it going and hope to hell things stay quiet. Later." I quickly called everybody else and gave them the same message. Now all I could do was sit there and hope for the best. Morning dragged on into the afternoon and then early evening, and then my phone rang. It was Gordon. "What's the report?" "As far as I know there weren't any incidents on campus and the view out my window shows the quad pretty much deserted." "Great. Now let's hope for a quiet night." "We should be so lucky. Later Den." "Well?" "Seems alls quiet on campus for the time being." "And that's likely to last how long?" "Who knows? There will probably be another break out tomorrow if they think they can get away with it. With any luck things will loosen up and they might just make the lockdown from dusk till dawn." "Things could almost get back to normal." "I hope so. I'm sure a week into this that all of the sports teams are starting to fall out of training." "Sports teams....Shit you don't think that maybe?" "What? That this is some kind of retaliation from Teramedies? Highly unlikely and he's got bigger fish to fry." "After he had to leave the country? Shit Den, I'd think revenge would be high on his list." "Always a possiblity I suppose lover, but this would be a stupid way to go about getting it. I'd expect something more.... direct if it were comming." "Yeah I suppose this is too broad of an attack for him. So just your ordinary everyday meatheads." "Which just because they aren't Teremedies doesn't make them any less dangerous." "Hell that might make them more dnagerous. We at least know that Teremedies is intelligent." "Careful love, that almost sounds like rancor. We can't afford that. We have to try and keep clear heads about it all." "Yeah yeah, I know otherwise we'll end up sinking down to their level. There's got to be an easier way Den." "If there is I sure as hell would like to be shown it." "Amen." We got ourselves some supper and once again retired early as neither one of us had gotten a decent nights sleep in a couple of days at least. Tonight I think we both collapsed out of sheer exhaustion. The next thing I knew the alarm was going off. I got up and checked the street and it was once again clear. "Let's give our jogging a shot lover. The street is clear for the time being." "Right behind you Den." We went out and got our laps in unmolested and were back inside to get cleaned up and fed. Then we waited. Not long after my phone rang and it was Gordon again. "Looks like we're going to have a repeat of yesterday Den." "So as far as you know things were all quiet last night?" "I haven't heard about anything yet this morning." "Ok. Try and keep me informed. How you guys holding up?" "Hey we've got each other Den. We'll be fine." "Ok, later. Looks like things are holding for now Karl." "Let's hope it stays that way. We going to try and do anything today?" "Like what?" "I don't know. Head out to the state park and go riding? Or just lunch or dinner out seeing as things remained quiet yesterday." "Yeah well maybe, as long as we don't get too far away from campus." "Then maybe head to Riskins for supper?" "It's Sunday lover. The Castanza's will be expecting us even if Paul and Cam don't make it." "Forgot about that. We need to get out and do something though." "Lunch at Ron's?" "Works for me." We settled down for a couple of hours and did what we could for school and about 12 headed out for Rons. "Well haven't seen you two in a while." "Hey Gladys. We've been keeping a low profile." "Yeah I suppose you would want to. So this a sign things are getting back to normal?" "I sure as hell hope so Gladys." "No specials today." "Then I guess it will be the usual bacon cheeseburger and a diet coke." "Make it two." We soon enough had our meal and headed back to the apartment. We got a little more school work done before it was time to head down for supper. Needless to say Paul and Cameron didn't show up and it was a rather quiet meal. After we helped clear the table we were back upstairs in time for my phone to ring. "Nightly report Den. As far as I know things were peaceful today and the quad is emptying out again." "Good to hear Gordon. Stay safe." Karl and I tried to relax until bedtime. We retired for the evening simply holding each other until we finally fell asleep. I don't know what time it was, but I awoke to the sound of sirens. I went to the front window and could see a glow coming from the direction of campus.
