So up and out an on to campus, where I had to tell Gordon and Aiden all about the weekend. "Sounds like things went better than you hoped for Den." "Yeah they did Gordon, but like I told Karl last night, I just hope it wasn't all an act." "I suppose it could be, but to carry it off for any amount of real time would be damn hard." "I'd sure think so Aiden, but only time will tell. Now let's get this show on the road." We ran our laps and Karl and I got back to the apartment and got ourselves together for the day. Investment vehicles held no surprises today so it was on to the taxes course with Mr McEmbers. There weren't any surprises here either, though he did motion me to stop on my way out. "So, how did things go this weekend?" "Seems that we are all on the same wavelength and we parted as friends at the very least." "Still and all be careful Dennis." "I always try to be." So it was over to the student union for my lunch and bench time. Pete stopped by between classes. "I got the cliff notes from Gordon. So it was a good weekend?" "Better than I had any right to hope for Pete." "I really hope things stay good for you on this Den. I gotta get." It was soon time to head into Risk/Rewards and again there were no surprises today. I headed back to the apartment and checked what was out for supper and got things started. While supper was cooking, I dropped Thomas a headsup message, not really expecting to hear anything back. Karl pulled in at his usual time. "Anything happen today Den?" "Nothing out of the ordinary. Let's hope to hell it stays that way." At which point my cell phone rang. The caller id said Houser,K "Kurt what's up?" "Just wondering if you are going to participate in any of the events for the council leadership?" "I'll support you any way I can Kurt, but I just don't have the time, not with the gymnastics." "I understand Den, just checking to make sure. I'm going to post the schedule on the house e board. Hope to at least see you at some of the events." "I'll do my damnedest Kurt but I can't make any promises." "Fair enough Den." "What was that all about?" "There's going to be a set of competitions between the frat houses for leadership of a student advisory council to the college. I just don't have the time for it." "Yeah I hear ya lover. Other than when the investigation was going on you haven't spent a lot of time at the frat this year." "No need to really while we have the apartment." "True enough I suppose." Not much later we sat down to supper, and once that was cleaned up Karl hit the books and I reviewed my imaginary portfolio for tomorrow. The alarm sounded in our ears and we were up and out once again. Running taken care of and we were back to the apartment. Karl got off to his classes and I just did a bit of cleaning before I headed in for the practicum. Once again it was the usual 15 minute discussion and my review was again the last of the day. "Any changes Mr Sawyer?" "No sir." "Very good then I'll see you Thursday." So it was over to the student union for lunch and bench time. Nobody stopped today. Eventually I headed over to the rec center and changed up and hit the floor. I stretched out and Coach Warren was there so he spotted me while I did my rounds of all of the equipment. "You're looking good Dennis. Just be careful for the time being. Next meet is Kilbride and away. Anything I should know about them?" "Not that I can think of coach. They were a pretty straight forward opponent if I remember correctly." "And I already know Dresmire were a bunch of turkeys, but we'll have home court advantage this year." "Doesn't mean they can't import some trouble for us." "True enough Dennis, but I think they may not be so full of themselves after being beat so badly at the all state." "What kind of season are they having ayway?" "3 and 2, so if they have a bad day between now and the end of season, they might not even make it to the all state this year." "Well I'm reasonably sure that we can put them in our win column if their season is going that poorly." "Don't get too cocky Dennis. They could just as easily be holding something back as we are." "I suppose so but with a record like theirs I would have thought they might have unleashed at least some of it by now." "Can't say as I disagree Dennis. If however they sweep their last three meets, they could well be a contender again this year." "True enough coach, but we're not going to let that happen are we?" "I certainly hope not Dennis." At that point I headed into get into my bathing suit and hit the pool for a while and then the whirlpool. I checked the car and called Karl to let him know I was on my way home. "Quiet day lover?" "Yeah it has been, which I'm actually glad for Karl." We sat down to supper and we had no sooner finished then there was a knck on our door. Something told me I had tempted the fates. I went to the door and opened it to find a detectives badge in my face, along with Mr Castanza. "Mr Dennis Sawyer?" "Yes." "Detective Barrows, Robbery division. May I have a few words?" "Yes detective, do come in. Mr Castanza do you wish to remain?" "Yes I think it best Dennis." "Sir can you account for your where abouts this weekend?" "I can. I was several hours away at home." "Witnesses other than Mr Holtz?" "I was in the company of my lawyer for several hours Saturday morning and with family the rest of the day. Sunday I was in the company of family until we returned here by jet at approximately 5 pm. Now, what the devil is going on?" "There was a smash and grab robbery early Saturday morning, and a person was injured as well. A car matching yours was seen leaving the scene. A partial license was gotten and the first three happen to match your plates." "To the best of my knowledge my car was parked right here all weekend. I have the only set of keys. I will gladly let you take a look at the car to see if it was tampered with and I do have a security camera system that would have caught anybody near the car." "I'd appreciate it sir." We walked downstairs and inspected the car. There were no visible signs that it had been tampered with. I downloaded the camera data and fast forwarding through the footage didn't show anybody messing with the car. "Thank you for your cooperation Mr Sawyer. Sorry to have interupted your day." "Happy to oblige detective. I hope you get whomever is responsible." "So much for your quiet day lover. I wonder how long that's going to be a pain in your ass?" "I'm thinking not very long. Mr Castanza sorry to have your evening disrupted." "Not to worry Dennis. Just glad it wasn't anything too serious." Karl and I made our way back upstairs at that point. "Think I ought to drop the lawyers a note on this Karl?" "Probably wouldn't hurt lover. Just to cover your ass. I'm going to call dad and give him a headsup in case they call him to verify." "Damn it I didn't get any contact information from Daniel or my brothers. I guess I'll have to have the lawyers give them a heads up just in case." "They can only account for so much time lover. With a jet you still could have made it work." "Whose side are you on Karl?" "Yours of course. I'm just playing devils advocate so we can cover our bases." "Well unless I'm mistaken, even private flights require the filing of a flight plan so there's that they can check against." I sat down at the computer and wrote an email to the lawyers telling them what had occured and asking them to contact Daniel in case his testimony was needed. Karl had made his phone call home and we hit the books until we crashed out for the night. 5:30 and we were at it again. Getting to campus and getting our jogging done was not a problem. We were on our way back to the apartment when there was a set of flashing lights in my rearview. I knew I hadn't broken and traffic laws so this could only be about the robbery. "Driver turn off the engine! Put your hands out of the window and open the door from the outside! Step out of the car, hands on head and back up towards me!" It seemed we were going to get the "full" treatment. Karl sat in the car waiting to be told what to do. I backed up until I was told to stop. My hand was grabbed and was handcuffed. Karl was then given the same instructions and treatment. "If it will speed things along officer, we spoke to Detective Barrows yesterday." "Barrows is robbery, this is about homicide."
