At which point I decided I had better shut up and wait for my phone call which would be to the lawyers. I had to assume that whoever had been injured during that robbery had succumbed to those injuries. Karl and I were put in the back seat of the car and were taken to the station. We were processed in and sepearated into different interrogation rooms. It wasn't long before I was facing a detective. "Can you account for your whereabouts this weekend Mr Sawyer?" "Phone call, laywers." "Very well sir, if that's the way you want to do this." At that point I was given a cell phone and I made the call. "Mr Jacobs, I assume you've seen your email this morning. It has turned into homicide since I wrote that email and I and Karl are sitting in interrogation rooms at police headquarters." "I'm on my way." "My lawyer should be in here in about 3 hours." "Then you best make yourself comfortable." I just sat there with my hands on the desk. Eventually Mr Jacobs was ushered into the room and the detective returned. "Now then I'll ask you again Mr Sawyer. Can you account for your whereabouts this last weekend?" Mr Jacobs just nodded yes. "I was at home all weekend. I boarded the law firms jet at approximately 5 pm and arrived home at approximately 7 pm. It was then on to my house and dinner with my husbands family. Saturday morning at approximately 6am I was jogging qith Arron Richards and Roland Harker after which I had a meeting at 9 am with Mr Daniel Trenton, which lasted until early afternoon. Both my husband and Mr Trentons family spent the afternoon together until about 5pm. Mr Holtz and I returned to my house at that point, again had dinner with his family. We were out for our regular morning jog at 6 am and were accompanied by Aaron Richards and Roland Harker once again. Mr Holtz and I then returned to our house for breakfast and then were off to a riding engagement. We met Mr Trenton and his family at approximately 9am. It was about a 40 minute drive to the state park and the riding stables. It was a 2 hour ride. We stopped for lunch on the way back to town. We left Mr Trenton and his family between 1:30 and 2. We boarded the flight back here at approximately 3pm and arrived around 5. We returned to our apartment and dinner with our landlord. Will that suffice?" "I'll need contact information on all parties." "You'll have to get Mr Trentons from Mr Jacobs here." I gave him Aarons and Rolands contact information, as well as for the stables and he left. "We should be out of here shortly Dennis." "I sure as hell hope so. I'm going to have some explaining to do tomorrow." "I'm sure that your instructors will make allowance Dennis." "Oh I'm sure they will. I'm just wondering if this will affect the gymnastics team. When I was under investigation for the bombing last year I was suspended from the team. We've got a meet in a little over 2 weeks." "I'm sure this will be cleared up a long time before that Dennis." It was about another half hour before the detective came back into the room. "You're free to go Mr Sawyer. All of your information checked out so far. Even the stables. Mr Harrison complained about the limo taking up 3 parking spaces. Sorry for the inconvienence." "Is there anything you can give me to forestall any repeats?" "Already made a notification to your plates so that there shouldn't be anymore stops for you." Karl and I picked up our things from the front desk and Mr Jacobs took us back to my car. "Do try and stay out of trouble Mr Sawyer." "Always my intention Mr Jacobs, but we all know where good intentions lead us." "Regardless, good luck with the rest of your school year Mr Sawyer, you as well Mr Holtz." He was on his way back home and Karl and I just went to the apartment. "You going to try and salvage the rest of the afternoon Karl?" "Hell no by the time I could get to class, there'd only be one and I doubt like hell that after this I'd be able to concentrate anyway." There was a knock at our door. "Mrs Castanza, is everyting alright?" "I was about to ask you the same thing. I noticed you boys didn't come in from jogging this morning and now you're both home rather early today." "I assume Mr Castanza told you what happened last night?" "He did." "Well apparently there were injuries to someone which ended up being fatal. We were detained and questioned about that this morning just because of the similarity to my car and the license plates." "Oh my goodness, they didn't abuse you poor boys did they?" "We're fine Mrs Castanza. It's all been taken care of and there's nothing to worry about." "There's always something to worry about Dennis." "Well not about this at least." "Alright then. You boys be careful." "We will. Have a good afternoon." I no sooner got the door closed then my phone started ringing. The caller ID read Trenton Industries. "Mr Sawyer? Please hold for Mr Trenton." "Dennis what the hell? The police department from your college town has been on to me first thing this morning." "There was a robbery here over the weekend which resulted in a death. My car matches the description of the vehicle involved and the first three characters of the license plate match. That was enough to get us stopped and taken in for questioning this morning." "Well the fact that I was able to get hold of you says you've been released. Anything more to worry about as far as this is concenred?" "I doubt it very much, but if anything does come up please cooperate with the authorities." "Of course. As long as I have you on the phone, I stopped by that other home. I'm sorry to say your fears were justified. The staff will be replaced top to bottom by the end of the week. As far as I was able to determine, none of the clients from Rustic Acres suffered any injuries from their stay." "Thank you Daniel. I appreciate your looking into it. How are Douglas and Drake handling their new brother?" "It looks like they've accepted it. Seems they are both developing an interest in gymnastics. I wouldn't be surprised if you see us for your all state competion." "At which point I'm sure you will get to meet my inlaws." "Something I'm looking forward to Dennis. Take care, I need to get back to work." "You too." I hung up the phone and went in to take my shower for the day. When I got out I just put on some bumming around clothes as I had no intention of going anywhere. Karl and I got ourselves a late lunch and not long after that my phone rang. The caller ID said it was Pete. "What's up Pete?" "I was going to ask you the same thing Den. You weren't on your bench today and as far as I can tell nobodies seen you since jogging this morning." "Karl and I spent the morning at the police department. Seems there was a robbery over the weekend and the vehicle involved matches mine as do the partial plates. Guess somebody involved in the robbery died. We've been cleared, but by the time we were done it was too late to even bother with classes." "Damn, how long is this one going to be a pain in your ass?" "Should be all taken care of according to the detective we spoke with this morning." "I hope to hell so." "No more than I do Pete. So spread the word to the guys so they don't worry to much." "Will do. Later." "Later." "So you were missed it sounds like." "Yeah,Pete missed seeing me on my bench outside of the student union. At least it should save us the trouble of explaining to the guys in the morning. The teachers on the other hand.... I'm sure as hell going to get called on it by McEmbers if nobody else." "So you just tell them the truth and be done with it lover." "Yeah I suppose you're right." Karl and I spent the rest of the afternoon just going over what should have been covered in our classes today. We had our supper and pretty much crashed out early this evening. Thursday morning and we were up and out for out jogging, but when we rouhded the corner of Cochran Hall, the guys were waiting for us with some pretty flat looks on their faces. "What?" "It's all over campus Den, that you're involved in a murder." "Oh for crying out loud! You guys know better right?" "Of course we do Dennis, but nobody listens to us especially where we are your friends." "Ok, so we all know better and we ignore the whole situation. Now let's move out." We got our jogging done and Karl and I got home and got ready for the rest of the day. I got into the practicum and the usual 15 minute lecture and had my review. Then it was over to the student union and I made it a point to be seen on my bench today. Eventually I headed over to the rec center and changed up for practice. When I hit the floor Coach Warren was there with a pretty disgusted look on his face.
