That would sure as hell account for the timing. "Dennis?" "Just a strange thought Pete, and one not worth voicing I don't think." "Voice it anyway." "What if Adams is in a situation similar to Mercers last year?" "Oh hell, Andros again?" "Maybe not Andros, but his cohorts." "Think it's worth mentioning to the Dean?" "He's liable to think I'm grasping at straws." "Still doesn't make you wrong buddy." "No I suppose not. I don't think there's anyway for him to check without putting Adams on the alert though. Basically the Dean would have to flat out ask him, which would either have him backing off or going more on the warpath. I'm betting it would be the warpath route." "With your luck, yeah." "I've got to let the Dean do his job and that's all there is to that one." "Your call Den. I've got to get to class." I finished my lunch and eventually headed over to Risk/Rewards. The class itself was gotten through without any problems, but, Mrs McCauley did motion me over at the end of class. "Mr Sawyer, I don't know what you have done, nor do I wish to, but for whatever reason you seem to have made an enemy of one of your instructors." "I'm aware of the situation Mrs McCauley. Dean Evans is taking care of it. I take it this person has had words with you about my character. I don't need to know where you stand on the subject, but if you would mention the conversation to Dean Evans I'd appreciate it." "I'd say the mere fact that we are having this conversation should tell you where I stand." "It does Mrs McCauley but I didn't want to put you 'on the spot' so to speak." "And I do appreciate that Dennis. Now I have things to do as I'm sure you do." "Then have a good weekend Mrs McCauley." I headed back to the car and checked it out before I headed back to the apartment and got something going for supper. Karl pulled in a bit later. "So any news today?" "Just that Adams seems to be on the warpath and going around to all of this years instructors telling them how untrustworthy I am or some such. I didn't get particulars." "Damn all of your teachers?" "Every single one of them. I don't know about the others, but I know McEmbers isn't having any of it. He had a meeting with the Dean at some point today." "I'da loved to be a fly on that wall." "Me too." "All this would really take is a phone call to Mr Caruthers. He was satisfied I hadn't used the company." "If he is in any shape to answer Den. I don't know about you but I haven't heard anything on his condition." "Neither have I. It's going to come down to what I told Pete this afternoon. I've got to trust in Dean Evans." We had our supper and settled down to a bit of bookwork before we ended up crashing for the night. Saturday and we were up and at it once again. We got to Cochran hall and it was a quiet jog this morning. I debated staying on campus and hitting the apparatus room this morning, but decided against it and just went and did a regular workout and got my time in the pool and whirlpool. Karl even stayed with me today. When we did get to the whirlpool, Jack from the team was there. "Damn Dennis 3 days running? This guy must have you really upset." "I take it you've talked to Dana?" "Yeah he told us all what they hell is going on. There are a couple of the guys who have had runins with Adams. Think it would do any good for them to speak to Dean Evans?" "Always a possibility, but I'm thinking not just yet. I think he's hearing enough from some of the other instructors already." "Hope to hell things get straightened out quick. You loose much more time and your edge could go with it." "I'm hoping there's something done by Tuesday and even if there isn't I'll be back then regardless. Of course it won't make a damn bit of difference if I flunk the practicum." "Damn it Den stop thinking like that. The Dean will find some way out of this and you will pass and get your certification, take the all state, and I'm betting you'll ace the brokers test to boot." "I have to have faith in the Dean Karl, but shit could still happen." "Well regardless, you hang in Dennis and let us know if there's anything we can do for you." "I will on both counts Jack and thanks." Shortly after that Karl and I hit the showers and got ourselves back to the apartment. "So, what's it going to be for the rest of the day lover?" "Just book work and starting to review for the finals I guess." "Just as a matter of curiosity, what do you have to pull together for the practicum?" "Final selling price, gross profit or loss from sales and any dividends that might have been paid. Easy enough stuff to get. I've already got what I paid for stuff, so really it's just simple math. I've been keeping track of dividends paid right along and there's only two companies that have to declare and they do that next week." So that afternoon was spent finishing up the reading for all of my classes and putting the information for the practicum into an understandable format. Which pretty much killed the rest of the day and Karl and I sacked out early. Sunday morning and we fell into the usual grind. After our laps with the guys we simply went back to the apartment and just crashed out for the day, until it was time to go down to supper with the Castanzas. "Dennis, what's this I hear going on with you and one of your professors?" "I didn't know it was common knowledge Mr Castanza." "Well, it isn't that I know of. You forget that I hear things Dennis. Granted I'm not always meant to hear them, but once heard I don't forget." "Plainly and simply, one of my professors has gotten sick or something and has been replaced by another instructor. Apparently, this person had dealings with the man who raised me, and as one of my friends put it he is visiting the sins of the father upon the son. The upshot being that he has all but promised me that I'm going to fail the course no matter how well I do with it." "And there's nothing to be done?" "There are things being looked into that I'm not at liberty to talk about." "I quite understand. Well here's hoping for you Dennis." Supper went on from there and we eventually got the table cleared and Karl and I headed back upstairs and Cam and Paul headed back to campus. "Word seems to be getting around Den. Think that will have any affect on Adams?" "Somehow I'm doubting it, unless somebody with some real authority makes a public statement of some kind, and frankly I don't see anybody other than maybe Dean Evans doing so." "Neither do I. So all you can do is hope the Dean comes through for you?" "Looks like." We just kicked back for a bit and ended up going to bed early. Not that I slept. Was I worried? Damn right I was, as I couldn't really see anything to be done. Could I prove prejudice? Probably but could it be done in time for me to still be in the all state let alone take the license exam when it was offered? Not with the way things could be dragged out. "Give it up Den, you need to sleep." "I know, it's just not coming tonight." I could almost see Karl biting his tongue to keep from uttering a smartass comeback. "I've got to trust the Dean to handle this one." "Yes you do lover. Now try to sleep, please." I must have eventually dropped off as the alarm was going off in my ear. So Karl and I were up and out. We got to campus and none of the guys had a lot to say this morning. So laps were run and Karl and I got back to the apartment and got our day organized. "Just worry about today lover and let tomorrow take care of itself." "I'll try Karl, but I'm making no promises." So, it was into Investment Vehicles and that was taken care of. Mr Blevins didn't have anything to say to me today, which really wasn't unusual. Then it was over to the tax course with Mr McEmbers. The class ran its time and I stopped to talk to Mr McEmbers. "So what did the Dean have to say the other day?" "Sorry Dennis, but I'm not allowed to talk to you about it." But he did give me a smile and a wink, which I took as rather encouraging. So it was on over to the student union for my lunch. Pete and Susan waved as they went by today, but didn't stop. Neither did Gordon or Aiden. The one person who did stop today was Bob Watson. "Anything to say Dennis?" "About what?" I couldn't think that word had gotten as far as Bob about my situation. "Come on Dennis. You know there aren't any secrets around here. This whole thing with one of your teachers." "Bob, I have to go with no comment. I don't know what might or might not be in the works and I've a feeling anything I say will only serve to enflame the situation." "You know whatever it is will eventually come out?" "Probably, but until then I have to play it close to the vest as they say. You'll have to wait and get it through channels Bob." "I'd think you'd want to be beating the bushes to get all the support that you could." "And if this all backfired, how many students do you think might come under this persons perview in the next couple of years? Not worth potenially making it difficult for anybody else."
