So we were just hanging out with Gordon when this guy came lumbering down the hall plowing through everybody and he then turned into 224. "Oh this is going to be interesting." The look on Gordons face was one of near panic. "Deep breath Gordon. Pete and I are here for moral support." "I just hope he has a decent disposition." Gordon took the deep breath and would go into his room, while Pete and I hung near the door. "Hi I'm your roomie,Gordon." The guy turned around and gave Gordon a quick once over. "I'm Dave pipsqueak and this is the way things are going to be. I say jump and you ask how fucking high." The look that came over Gordons face was one of pure determination. "I don't think so jackass." I could see Pete getting ready to get between the two of them. "Let them work it out for themselves Pete,"I whispered. Dave turned to look at Gordon and moved toward him in a threatening manner. Gordon didn't wait and struck out with the speed of a mongoose and laid a stiff fingered jab directly into Daves midsection. The resulting woof of air from Dave and the backward stagger were enough to tell me that Gordon was more than capable of taking care of himself. "Now let ME tell you. I won't be bullied and we can go at this as equals or it is going to be one long hell of a school year." Dave looked at Gordon with murder in his eyes. "A bit of friendly advice sir. From what I know of martial arts,he was taking it easy on you." That would take the look from Daves eyes and a little bit of respect might just have been seen there as a replacement. Dave would straighten up and move toward Gordon once again, stopping just outside of stiking distance. "Listen Gordon, I'm sorry about that, really. My dad has always taught me to be the one in charge,a tough leader." "Mine always taught me not to take any bullshit from anyone. Guess we both got off on the wrong foot. Pax?" "Pax." Dave offered his hand to Gordon and it was taken and firmly shaken. "And who the hell are you two?" "This is Pete and I'm Dennis, your next door neighbors." Dave would shake my hand and then look at Pete. "I've seen you before. Two years ago,you were a lineman and I was a sophmore at Edgars. I think we lined up against each other a couple of times." "We played Edgars so not entirely impossible." "Little old to be freshmen ain't yah?" "Long story short,I had an accident and Pete had financial difficulties. We both got our acts together this year. You have anymore stuff to bring in? We could give you a hand." "Yeah there are a few more things and I'd appreciate it." We all trooped out to Daves car and grabbed whatever there was left to bring in. Once upstairs and everyting was deposited,we gave Dave the same advice we had gotten about getting to the bookstore. Dave grabbed his list and was gone. "Well I think we may be in for interesting times, even without Karl." "Karl?" "A friend of ours. He'll be showing up over the weekend. He's a sophmore this year. Nothing held him up last year like we were." I wasn't ready to tell Gordon,or anybodyelse for that matter, the exact nature of my relationship with Karl. "He also jogs with me in the morning." "How far do you guys go?" "We're up to 4 miles and will probably keep it there. If I've figured this out right that's about 5 times around the quad, give or take." "You guys mind a third?" "Not in the least. We have that 9 am briefing,so I'll be up and out at about 6." "Sounds like a plan to me. That should still give us time for a shower and breakfast before the briefing." "That's the way I figure it." All the while there had been guys moving in all around us. We took a bit of time to watch the passing parade. There was a goodly amount of eye candy passing up and down the halls, and clearly some who had spent way to much time in front of one type of screen or another. Not that I was going to "touch",but nobody said I couldn't look. "Dennis, can I ask a question without getting decked?" Damn and not even a day into the term. "You can ask Gordon,I won't promise an answer though." "I couldn't help but notice you checking out all of the guys. Are you gay?" "I am and I would appreciate it if that wasn't made common knowledge." "Oh I am the soul of descretion Dennis. I won't tell a soul. Pete?" "Oh hell no!" "Just checking. I don't know if I am or not. I mean I think about it a lot but I've never tried anything with anybody, boy or girl." "Well college is all about learning Gordon so there's one more thing to learn about. I can advise, but I'm spoken for." "Karl?" "I will neither confirm nor deny at this time." "I think I understand." "I appreciate that Gordon." Andy would again be making his rounds of the floor. "You guys all squared away?" "Yeah books are bought and stowed away for the weekend. We're just out making friends and influencing people as Mr Carnegie used to say." "I can tell you this then Gordon, you could do far worse than these two." "I've already discovered that." Andy would get a 'oh really?' type of look on his face. "Taking advantage Den?" "Get your mind out of the gutter Andy. Nothing like that at all." "Uh huh...later." "Andy knows?" "Yeah he went to school with us. It was no secret at that time and I paid the price for it I am told. That accident I mentioned before wiped out my memory. I still don't remember anything before the accident and it's been a little over a year." "Wow,I can't imagine what that must be like." "You wouldn't want to. I didn't even recognize .....my lover when I woke up and we were engaged to be married last Christmas when I turned 18." "Mind if I ask where that stands now?" "Still working that out. I need to be sure that I was right to do that. I'm about 98% of the way there." "Your last visit to campus didn't seal the deal?" "Jeez Pete, descretion, ever hear of it?" "Sorry Den." It looked like Gordon was having all he could handle to keep from outright laughing. "OK so Karl is my intended. That also should not be made common knowledge if you don't mind Gordon." "Hey mums the word." "Now that all of that is out of the way, what shall we be up to for the rest of the day?" "I don't know about you Pete, but I want to check out the athletic/rec center. Somehow I don't think jogging is going to be enough to keep in shape." "Sounds like a good idea to me." "Me three if you don't mind the company." "Like I said before Gordon, the more the merrier. Grab your stuff and let's go see what there is to offer." Pete and I went to our room and grabbed our workout bags and headed out with Gordon. There didn't seem to be very much going on at the center when we got there. We walked around the place and found basketball courts both inside and out, along with two baseball fields. Inside there was a suana along with an olympic sized pool and a weight room. There was also a room with gymnastics equipment and there was a guy in there working on the high bar. I watched him for a few minutes and he kept having trouble going to a full handstand at the top of his swing. When he had made his dismount I walked over to him. "You need to square up your shoulders more." "What?" "You need to square up your shoulders more in order to hold the handstand. Your hands are to far apart." "And you know this because?" "Doesn't matter how he knows Josh,he happens to be right. I only just spotted it myself." "If you say so coach." "I say so and so does Mr Sawyer." I looked at the coach without the slightest bit of recognition. Pete was right beside me and didn't seem to know the guy either. "Excuse me sir,but do I know you?" "Nope, but I know you. Watched you perform in the all state almost two years ago, then you just kind of fell off the map." "I had an accident at the end of my senior year and was in a coma until just before last Christmas. Haven't really worked out since I woke up but I can still see what's wrong." "Well this area is usually off limits to the genreal public, but you're welcome to come workout anytime,as long as you have a spotter. Josh you make sure that word gets around to the others please." "Sure coach. Thanks for the heads up....?" "Dennis and you're welcome." "Of course it wouldn't be an issue if you tried out for the team." "Maybe next year Coach. Like I said I haven't been working out at it for over a year now. I'd have to build my strength back up as well as new routines." "Humor me stretch, chalk up and try something on the pummel horse." I did as was requested and warmed up with a little scissors work. I started more scissors work and threw it up into a handstand and then worked my way along the horse and back into a simple dismount. "I'd hate to have to put somebody up against you after you got back into shape Dennis. That was excellent work for somebody who hasn't been at it for a year." "What can I say? The muscles have a better memory than I do right now,and I would hate to try and do any follow up right now. My arms are shot." "You looked alot like your old self Den. Yeah I used to watch the team workout." "Why doesn't that surprise me Pete? I have to admit I used to watch the scrimages too." "Oh great I had to pick two jocks to pal around with." "Hey like Andy said you could do worse. Maybe we can put some muscle on those bones of yours,if you're up for it." "That would surprise the hell out of my parents. Let's go for it." "Well that settles that. I guess we had better get ourselves some locker space. Coach, thanks for the use of the hall." "Anytime Dennis, and if you spot anything else I would appreciate you bringing it to the guys or my attention." "Absolutely." With that the three of us went out to the main desk and signed up for lockers. We ended up being all three together which was nice. I put everything except what I needed for jogging into the locker. "Pete remind me to have Karl bring my gymnastics gear when he comes on Saturday." "You might just as well call him right now. Not like he has a job for you to interupt." "True enough." I got out my phone and dialed Karl. "What's up lover?" "I was just cheking out the gym with Pete and a new friend. I need you to go into the excercise room and scarf up all of my gymnastics gear and bring it with you,if you have the room." "I can make the room for it love. You said a new friend? Do I have competition?" "Nothing like. Somebody who needed a friend and Pete and I got selected. He's also living right next door." "Is he built?" "Put it to you this way,he makes Jason look positively plump." "Shit! Don't break him love." "Last thing on my mind love. Actually he wants me to help build him up a bit." "Well I guess I will meet him day after tomorrrow." "That you will. You'll like him I'm sure." "Does he know?" "Yeah he figured it out for himself." "And he is ok with it? Is he?" "Yeah and he is still trying to figure that out. I've already told him that except for advice he is on his own." "Ok love. Kick back and relax while you have the chance. Starting Monday all hell breaks loose." "That was pretty much the plan love. See you Saturday. Love you." "See you Saturday. Love you more."
