I printed a copy of what I had sent to the lawyers and added the information that Karl had on Larrys car. It was still early enough that we could take a walk over to the campus security office and we did so. Better to have this in their hands sooner rather than later. The desk officer just happened to be the one of the ones from when Kyle jumped Peter and me. He read the whole thing that I had typed out and then just looked at me. "You're seriously worried?" "Officer, he doesn't know it but he has every right to be. I know some of the things that Larry Brown has done. Nobody could prove it but I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that Larry hotwired a car so that when the key was turned it shorted out the battery and set the car on fire. Thank god nobody was hurt, but the car was totaled." "Are you sure Mr Hotlz?" "Positive." "Okay I'll put this on the watch list and make sure it gets to all gates and patrols." "Thank you officer. Have a good night." Karl and I left the office and made our way back to my dorm to be greeted by a big red star. "I swear that boy is going to end up hurting himself." "Maybe love. Now what do we do for the next hour or so?" "We could always go to your room at the frat I suppose." "We could but you know we will get razed if we do. Not that I would mind of course." "Dennis, don't take this the wrong way,but I just need you to hold me tonight and we can do that any number of places." "That we can love, and I know just the place where we likely won't be bothered." I headed us up the stairs and to the roof of the dorm. It wasn't the most romantic place but we were unlikely to be disturbed. We cuddled in a corner and didn't really need any words. I don't know how long we were up there but eventually my phone buzzed and it was Pete giving us the all clear. "I don't know about you love but I need to get a few things done for class tomorrow." "I should get some work done too. It's been a hell of a weekend." We had our good night kiss here on the roof before going down to my room. Karl headed off but Gordon was just coming into the dorm. I laid out for him what was going on with Larry so when we went out and he saw me checking over the car he wouldn't think I was loosing it. "Does everybody have as interesting a life as you do Den?" "God I hope not. How's Aiden holding up?" "He's doing fine but I have to find Andy and get the key to the elevator so we can get that wheelchair up and down." "Let's go down to his room now and see if he is in. I should probably let him know what is going on in case Larry is stupid enough to come looking for me." "Think the name will mean anything to him?" "From the way Karl tells it alarm bells should go off in his head." I wasn't wrong in my assumption. I only had to mention the name to see the storm clouds gather across Andy's face. "Just what the hell I needed a vendatta. Thanks for the heads up Dennis. I'll keep an eye out for Larry. I would dearly love to see him busted. That car stunt could have seen somebody seriously hurt." "Yeah Karl told me about that. Anyway I thought you ought to be in the loop." Gordon got a key for the elevator and we both headed back to our rooms for the night. I hit the books for a while and at 11 my phone buzzed with Karls usual message and I sent mine back. Shortly thereafter I was asleep. 5:45 rolled around and I rolled out of bed. Pete had for some reason stayed out all night and wasn't in his bed. I got into my jogging clothes and headed out to find Gordon waiting on me. We started out and picked up Karl and did our laps uneventfully. Up stairs and showered and dressed for the day and as we were heading out for breakfast Pete came stumbling in. "What the hell man?" "It's beena hell of a night Den. They thoguht Susans roomie was fine, but the rushed her to the hospital right after I texted you. Good thing Susan has a car we've been there all night. Amy had a bleeder in her head that got missed. Enough pressure finally built up in her head that she passed out. She'll should be ok in a couple of days." "Grab a shower and try to make it through the day Pete. I probably won't be back until around 8 or 9 tonight,if I'm lucky." "Why? Oh yeah you're taking Aidens mother home. Damn near forgot." Gordon and I headed down to the cafeteria for breakfast and then we headed out to our classes. The day went as expected, though I did think to call Mr Bellows and put him in the know about Larry just to be on the safe side. "Thanks for letting me know Dennis. Otherwise how is college treating you?" "So far it's a piece of cake." "Well I have an appointment in a few minutes so I'll let you get back to it." "Okay Mr Bellows have a good day." I went and got the accoutning class out of the way and then headed back to the dorm. Mrs Harris was out front of the building. "Mrs Harris, just let me drop off my books and we can be on our way." "Certainly Dennis." I ran up stairs and dropped my books off and took a quick trip down the hall to Aidens room. "Hey I'm just about to take your mother home. You need anything before Gordon gets out of class?" "Nah I'm fine. Do yourself a favor though and watch out for my stepdad. He can be a real pain in the ass." "I'll be careful and I'll check in with you when I get back." I was down the stairs and collected Mrs Harris and we made our way to my car. I was just about to open the door when I thought about what I had told Karl last night. "Just a moment Mrs Harris." I did a once around of the car and carefully lifted the hood to check for any wiring and found nothing. We were shortly on our way and it was an uneventful drive, right up until the time we pulled up in front of the house. There were suitcases and boxes piled in the front yard. "Oh dear he did mean it." "Do you have someplace you can go Mrs Harris?" "I do. I made some arrangements just in case, but I don't have the room for all of those boxes." "I'm sure we can find a storage place for them. I have to ask,is the house in both of your names?" "No I'm afraid not. I don't even believe that it is left to me in his will." "Well then I suggest we get what you really need out of that mess and get you to where you have arrangments made. Then we can see about getting this stuff into storage." As Mrs harris started going through and picking out what she would need,I would put it in the car. I thought it kind of strange that none of her neighbors came out to find out what was going on,but didn't mention it. We had the immediate needs stuff sorted out and Mrs Harris would give me directions to a house on the other side of town. I stayed in the car until things were sorted out and then unloaded the car. It was then back to the house to try and load the rest of the stuff into the car. It was a damn tight fit but we finally got everything in. There was a self storage place not to far away and we got everything into the smallest of the spaces available. We were on our way back to where Mrs harris would be staying when I had a thought. "Mrs Harris,I hate to be indelicate, but how is this going to affect Aiden? After the way Mr Harris carried on will there be enough for him to stay in school?" "Aiden will be just fine. His college money is in a trust fund his real father setup and is overseen by a law firm. His father was a big believer in education. He never got the opurtunity to attend an institution of higher learning and every spare penny went into that fund so that Aiden would have a better life. Thank you for worrying about him Dennis. With friends like you and Gordon I'll not worry about him quite so much." We finally got back to where Mrs Harris would be staying and I saw her into the house. "Dennis woould you wait just a minute. I want to write Aiden a quick note." "Of course." While I was waiting the members of the houseshold would of course be giving me the once over. I kind of expected it under the circumstances. Soon enough Mrs Harris was back with a sealed envelope. "I want to thank you again Dennis for everything you have done. Tell Aiden not to worry about me. I'll be fine." And with that she would give me a kiss on the cheek. "I'll try to keep him on the straight and narrow." I was soon back on the road again and got a quick drive thru meal so that I might arrive back at the college at a decent time. I finally pulled in about 10:30 and gave Karl a quick call as I headed upstairs. He was kind of upset that I hadn't called him earlier, but when I explained things he calmed down. I made my way down to Aidens room and gave a light knock just in case he and his rooomie were already sacked out. Not much to my surprise it was Gordon who opened the door. "Damn we were expecting you over an hour ago.!" "There were......complications." "I told you to watch out for my stepdad." "Never laid eyes on him Aiden, which was probably a good thing. Your mother is safe and sound with some friends and she gave me this for you." I handed him the note and he read it quickly. "So that ass actually did it. Thanks for taking care of mom Dennis." "No big thing. You going to be okay?" "Yeah as long as mom is at the Elmores house I'm not going to worry to much, though I don't know where we'll end up this summer and vacations. I know I'm sure as hell not going anywhere for spring break." "It's not even Thanksgiving and you're worrying about spring break?"
