The rest of the meal was just as good as the salad and when it came time for dessert I was sorely tempted. "I'm going to have to pass on dessert, but if you want some go for it Karl." "No I'm with you. I don't really need it either. We did we would have to step up on the jogging." "Well then let me go get you bill for you and thank you for coming to see us tonight." Kevin was back shortly with the bill and I took it. I gave Kevin my card and he proceeded to process it. I left him a cash tip as I had once been told of an incident where the management was skimming the tips. Soon enough we were back on campus and found our place for our good night kiss. True it was Saturday night and there wasn't anything on tap for tomorrow, but after a full day in the gym I was kind of beat. I was feeling a little guilty about Aiden and Gordon at this point. "Karl, I have to tell you something." "I bet I already know love. It wasn't just Aiden and Gordon going at it last night was it?" "No it wasn't." "Hey, I've been waiting for it to happen with Gordon. I'm a bit surprised Aiden got into the act though." "They thought that seeing as I wouldn't give it up to either one of them seperately, that I might double up with the both of them." "No playing favorites." "Something like yeah." "It's ok love. Like I said, I've been kinda waiting for it to happen." "Karl.....I really do love you ya know." "I know." I made my way back up to my room and thankfully there were no markings on the dry easel. I went in and Pete wasn't around which was expected on a weekend. I fired up the computer just to check on he email and ended up with another 16 sign ups. So we were up to three buses and who knew how many would drive over themselves? I skimmed the net for a while and came across a news story about a college student who had hacked the federal services. The particulars weren't given but there was enough there for me to know it was about Larry. It looked like he was facing a minimum of 15 years in federal prison. Something else I was sure he would blame on me. I filed that away in the back of my head and decided not to let up being extra cautious. Eventually 11 rolled around and Karl and I exchanged our messages and I finally crashed out. 5:45 seemed to come even earlier than usual. Still I rolled out of bed and got my jogging stuff on and meant Gordon coming out of his room. We were down and started around the quad and Karl joined us and in due course we finished our laps. Thankfully Karl didn't have anything to say about last nights revelation. Back to the dorm showered and changed we went downstairs for breakfast. "So a quiet Sunday or do any of us have plans?" "Shit I'm ready for a quiet Sunday thank you very much." "You would be Dennis after the day you put in yesterday." "Oh hey before I forget, I came across a story on the net last night. It didn't mention Larry by name but there was enough there for me to tell it was about him. Looks like he's facing a minimum of 15 years." "Damn sounds like you won't have to worry about him for a while." "Oh I'm not relaxing that easily. He's already proven that he can 'reach out' to people and as sure as God made little green apples he's going to blame me for this as well." "So you're going to keep being paranoid love?" "Damn right I am. I'm going to keep as close a watch as I can on his case as well. If he somehow gets off I want to know about it." "Yeah well I guess I can't blame you for that given his past performance. I'm betting your lawyers can do a better job of that than you can love." "Probably. I'll drop them a note later so they can set up whatever overwatch they need to. Meanwhile, let's get away from campus for the day Karl." "Fine by me. Anywhere in particular in mind?" "Strange as it sounds, are there any good amusement or theme parks around here?" "Actually there is one about an hour away. I think they just got bought out by the of the big park companies last year and they made some real investments in the place." "Sounds like a plan. Lead the way lover." A little over an hour later we pulled into the parks lot and we could see several rides that towered over the landscape. "Looks like just what I had in mind love. Do either of us have any problems with thrill rides?" "Not that I remember, but it's been a while since we did something like this Den." "Then let's hope things haven't changed." For the next several hours we were nothing but big kids. The park was surprisingly empty for a weekend and we were able to just about walk right onto every ride. We started out slow and worked our way up the ever increasingly more extreme roller coasters, taking time for more sedate things in between. We finally faced the towering monster of all steel roller coasters, well at least as far as this park was concerned. The fact card at the entrance said it was almost 5 miles long and almost 200 ft high and reached speeds of almost 70MPH. The longest drop was almost 175 feet at only a few degress from vertical. Several loops, a corkscrew and several high G turns. "You up for this lover?" "Hey we've hit every other one in the place Den. Might just as well hit the big boy as well or it was a wasted trip." We made sure that we had put everything loose in a locker. No keys or anything to loose. No these were keyed to our fingerprints of all things. We made our way into line and when we got to the platform we saw more than one wobbly legged passenger being helped out to the main exit. "We are calling quits after this right love?" "Somehow I don't think we're going to have much of a choice. Not to late to bail." "And if Bobby were here would we even consider it?" "Oh hell no! He'd never let us live it down." "So onward and upward." We boarded the ride and started the long climb to the top. Things happened a bit to fast to actually follow after that and we were tossed back and forth and alternately felt weightless and then crushed back into our seats. When the ride was over I had to make a conscious effort to pry my fingers from the grab bar. I looked at Karl and he was as white as a sheet. "Take a breath love it's over." "Are you fucking sure?" "Yes love. Come on we're holding things up." I finally got Karl out of the ride and we both stumbled a bit towards the exit. We quickly found a place to sit for a few. "Had enough for one day love?" "I think I've had enough for the rest of the year Den. Let's just sit here for a few and then slowly make our way to the car." "I second that motion." "Don't say motion!" "Ok ok. Just take a few and we can head for the car. Too soon to be thinking about supper?" "Dennis Sawyer you are evil." "I'll take that as a yes." We started back towards the main gate and I swung us into the souviner shop. There was a rack of pins available which had a pin for just about every one of the real thrill rides in the place. I picked up several of them. "Well at least that hasn't changed." "What?" "You have a pin collection, somewhere at home. You've got pins from just about everywhere you ever visited. You always thought there were a relatively inexpensive way to remember a place and that they were easy to transport;didn't take up much room in the luggage." "Well they are and they don't. Let's face it love. Almost a year later and I still don't have my memory back. Time to build some new ones I would think." "True enough love, true enough." We evetnually made our way out of the park and found the car and started back towards school. We found a little place and had supper before we got back. It was starting to get dark out so we found our place to kiss and I made my way up to my room. Luckily there was no Star or heart on the easel so I went on in. There was no Pete either, but I didn't worry to much about that. He seemed to be spending more and more time with Susan. I got comfortable and booted the computer. Another bunch of emails and 15 more reservations. I was definately up to 3 buses and there was still several days to go before I had to make the call to get the buses. I browesed the net for a while and then hit the books until I got the usual message from Karl and sent mine back. Still there wasn't any Pete. It wasn't like him to be out this late on a Sunday, but I wasn't getting upset about it. He was a big boy and could well watch out for himself. 5:45 rolled around once again and I was up and out for jogging. Still not Pete though. Gordon was right there waiting and we took our laps and gathered Karl up along the way. We finished and went to shower and change and get ready for the day. Still no Pete. Now I was getting worried. We were downstairs for breakfast. "Gordon, did Pete say anything to you about not being here today?" "Not a word." "Den?" "He never made it back to the room last night nor this morning." I pulled out my cell and dailed Pete. "Went straight to voicemail. That's not like him at all." I tired Susans number which Pete had given me as a just in case. Hers went straight to voicemail as well. "This isn't good. Who do we contact?" "Got to start with campus security." I was on my feet and headed for the door when Pete fairly dragged himself into the cafeteria. "What the hell guy? You scared the shit out of us." "Sorry guys. It's been a hell of a weekend. After we left the practice Saturday Susan got a call. Her mother collapsed. We've either been at the hospital or on the road ever since." "Damn and her mother?" "She had a mild heart attack. She's going to be fine just needs some rest and medication. Susan I'm not so sure about."
